J.Crew Loves the Sample Sale {4th coming soon}

A super big "thanks!" to Jenn who let us know that J.Crew is having another (their 4th!) sample sale in NYC.

The sample sale starts Sunday, July 12th and will last until Friday, July 16th. It's unclear if its just Women, or it will include Mens and Crewcuts. Right now, the merchandise will consist of "sample & stock". Usually more information is provided as the date draws near. For more information from ClothingLine, click here.

The location for the event is:
Clothingline | SSS Sample Sales
261 W 36th Street
(between 7th & 8th Ave)
2nd Floor
New York, NY 10018

I am happy to see that the first day of this event is on a Sunday (as most attending will not need to take the day off from work). With that said, I have no intentions of attending this event. The last three sample sales seem to have been a bust. The merchandise was not that spectacular (e.g. limited sizes & quantity; merchandise second rate in some cases) and the prices were higher than expected (e.g. can get a better price waiting for a sale online or in stores with first rate merchandise in one's size).

With that said, I would totally attend the event if I knew the items being sold were at reasonable prices and the merchandise selection was better. ;)

Will you be attending this latest sample sale? If you are, please let us know! :)

  1. Alexis,
You said it perfectly. Past ones have been a bust and not worth the time and effort! Thanks for the post though.

  2. I am tempted by this one having missed the first ones. At worst, I figure, there will be some basics for decent prices.

  3. I went to two before, bought nothing, and wasted my time! Will not be going this time. (or ever?)

  4. I agree. The first one was so-so. The second one was terrible. The prices were way higher than I expected. I could've bought some of their stuff at their regular store sale prices and at outlet prices. Also, a huge pet peeve of mine is when they write "SAMPLE" in huge letters on the back of their light colored cashmere. If you were to ever wear this, everyone would be able to read the word "sample" -it would be backwards, but nevertheless embarrassing.

  5. I went to the first sample sale and overall, was disappointed in the prices. However, I did find a jacket that was sold out in stores and a basic wide leather belt that I have ended up wearing alot. I think I will check out this sale though - a big reason is that it starts on Sunday - and look for obscure stuff. But if you want better prices, I noticed on the first sale that the last couple of days of the sale, they started to mark stuff down further (of course, selection is down then too).

  6. I am so sad that I now live in CA!! I used to go to their sample sales years ago when I was a fashion editor in NYC and they were GOOD! I still have things (like 10 years later) from those sales! Have fun!!

  7. I hit the first sample sale on the first day after work and could not find any shoes or jewelry though I'm told they had a selection earlier in the day. Can anyone who attended the other 2 sample sales comment on the shoes/jewelry selection? I'm wondering if I should bother with the sale this time around. I certainly won't be buying any more mis-sized cashmere for $60 which I then have to take straight to the dry cleaners to have them remove the word SAMPLE, costing me even more! I'd rather stalk the FS.

  8. I'm here now (its 8:05 AM in NY now) and there's no one else here. I thought there would be a major line before opening as there usually is at major brand sample sale. I should have read this blog before coming... I'll let you guys know what I find.

  10. This was my first J Crew sample sale, but I thought it was great. I was looking for one of the current special occasion dresses and found it in the size and color I wanted. There are a bunch of the wedding gowns for $350 and a large selection of the bridesmaid dresses for $90. Also a pretty good selection of shirts ($10), pants ($20) and bathing suits ($15) as of this afternoon. Cashmere sweaters were $30, I think. A few styles of shoes and lots of handbags, but I didn't see any jewelry.
