Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. For those who like the Gemma flat, Everlane released a similar style, actually a cross between the Gemmas pointed toe shape and the Cece rubber sole. I really like them but I’m stopping myself.
I did order another item to try from the CWYP section. The editor boot. I’m not a huge fan of kitten heels but I’ve admired this boot style quite a bit over the past few years and know it will work to dress up my black basics. I did get black but the brown suede is tempting, as is the bone, but I know the black will be most versatile.
I’m also trying their oversized blazer in black. It’s expensive so I’ll need to love it. My JCrew blazers are much more fitted and even the current selection of boyfriend blazers is shorter than I need. I actually tried on one of my husbands blazers to see if the fit and style had potential.

    1. I prefer the look of the 90s flat. It is Final Sale though.

    2. i like the 90s flat but that shape is one that if it doesn’t fit well, forget it. Typically Everlane says to size up but most of their shoes fit me better true to size. It’s not worth the risk because if my heel slips. Forget it.
I also like the square toe sling back.

FWIW I kept the editor boot in black. I tried all the colors actually in two sizes and stuck with my usual 8.5 which fits snug but the leather is soft and I didn’t want them to get too loose.

I also returned the blazer which fit me but not oversized. I did size down based on reviews but my regular size in a blazer might have actually been oversized as it was supposed to be.

    3. The editor boot caught my eye but I am terrible with heels (yeah, even teeny tiny kitty heels). However, they look so fab on you that I am reconsidering =P. I usually have to size up (7.5-->8 for the Everlane Modern Loafer) both for the Editor and the 90s Flat. Though I'll wait for a better price on the flat considering it's final sale.

One month into the new decade and I've already shopped too much ... Helmut Lang and Nike mostly!

      Thanks again Suz!

    4. They don’t feel like heels at all. It’s miraculous. I tried them on last night with a whole bundch of bottoms and the only thing I didn’t like was full length skinny jeans. Old baggy denim was transformed into a chic look.
I am very tempted to try the polished pleat pant or whatever it’s called. I gave my eldest my curator with a similar silhouette. They’re not an urgent need (I barely go out to dinner let alone need to really dress up, lol) but I’m keeping my eye on them.

I sold more than I bought since January. A few more expensive pieces bought but I was selective.

    5. Everlane's leather is quite lovely. I saw the Chelsea boot IRL at the Prince Street store ... Looked like high-end boots. I also love the Modern Loader in Ivy. Maybe I"'ll get the black as well. Sad to see they're being discontinued.

The Editor is $158 at the low end of CWYP ... not biting (yet).

    6. It"'ll probably sell out before long I'm aware.

    7. I bit at 158 but I’ll keep my eye on them. I feel like it’s a decent price for nice quality boots.

  2. Poshmark's shipping rate is going up tomorrow to $7.11, likely due to the postal increase across the board. They have also been running a promotion for free $10 credit with free shipping with referral for a new account. I have been shopping there for more J. Crew basics circa 2010/12 which are surprisingly in good shape, much better than the shopworn sweaters in my store's sale section.
Just wanted to give JCAs a a heads up since I know many of us go there to get our "vintage Crew" now that the website seems lackluster. Happy to refer you, or any other JCAs may want to offer their referral codes too if you are thinking about starting an account.
