Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Too much to do this weekend for Thanksgiving so I don't think I'll get to do much other shopping BUT I received the Scalloped Heels in Festive Plaid yesterday. So absolutely adorable for the holidays! Fit TTS took my normal 7. Remind me of some of the very best J Crew Holiday over the years.

Wish the toe wasn't quite SO round but otherwise they are beautiful.

  2. Received the email for Sunday's card member pre Black Friday event in store. Was going to stop in and make a return anyway. Not sure if I will pick up anything. Hoping the new roll out items are on the floor. If not probably nothing I have to have.

  3. Most likely going tomorrow to return. I didn't like the Signet bag in embossed croc. Its stiff and leather wasn't soft and supple. That's why I ordered the Signet in cabernet instead. I also wasn't pleased with the stripe shirt with club collar and tie. If I remember, I ordered a P2 and it felt skin tight. So it doesn't run TTS, for petite sizing at least.

    1. @JSR, that's the Signet bag I bought with rewards a few rollouts ago. It's pretty with good qualify as you have probably seen, but I don't find myself reaching for it as much. I had to constantly take out items and rearrange it since it doesn't fit a whole lot. Also, I still need to have additional holes punched in on the strap for me, too long. But the color is beautiful!

    2. The colors I like from that embossed croc is the mauve and the olive. I didn't care much for the brown or white. I wish it was offered in those colors i like, but use it on the entire bag.

Yea, the strap is long for us shorties. I have to determine if its worth keeping. I got it during the Spend $500, Get $200 off promo. So it was a good deal.

    3. @JSR, I don't think my post was very clear, but the cabernet color is the bag I bought and love. I think the leather is quite nice though I do wish it was a smidge bigger and that the strap was a bit wider because I wear it as a crossbody and find it digging into my shoulder if I put my checkbook style wallet in there. I'm glad you got yours with that sale! Good deal. 😀

  4. I'm not going this weekend, but I went last weekend, and my store (Copley in Boston) had the holiday rollout stuff. Those floor length plaid skirts are incredible but too long for me at 5-2.

  5. OT Wishlist: I was really hoping that we'd see a Factory dupe of the red plaid Elsie O'dorsay heels that sold out so quickly last year...

Got an email last night for a 40% Black Friday preview event on Sunday morning. Thrilled to see 40% - I don't think they've done that before but I don't live near a B&M. I might ask my VPS to honor the sale but not sure what I need at this point.

    2. rcvd the cardholders email too. was at the store earlier today & asked about pre-selling a few items but was denied. oh well, doesnt hurt to ask. might pop in to score a pair of the stretch cargo pants for 40% off. was hoping they would hv the lady coat w/ braided trim in store bc i wanted to try it on but struck out on that as well.

    3. Do you think 40% of reg stuff is the promo for Sunday? I must have missed that..

  6. I had my store order the wolfstooth pants for me today as most of the sizes are already gone. They are a retail store item so even if you order online the pants will come from a retail store. They seem to be selling out fast. I saw how they were styled on the J.Crew blog and that made my decision for me. I think they will be extremely versatile. I am going to an upscale bowling party and I think these would look great with my bowling shoes.

    1. Mine arrived Friday and they get a big thumbs-up from me. The silk is sufficiently lightweight that the elastic waist area isn't bulky. Sometimes you just have to go crazypants.

  7. I stopped in last night and the SA was kind enough to honor the cardholder promo on items in store. I picked up the pleated ponte dress which I'm wearing today paired with the white tweed motorcycle jacket with fringe from last early spring.

I also purchased the tuxedo ruffle blouse in polka dot and a size 10 in the festive plaid shirt which I think is going to be the right size - several other JCAs were correct on it not running small. I have a 12 on it's way to me, so I'll still compare and then decide. Nothing else for me until the new rollout next week!

    1. Anne. I asked on your IG, what color is the trim on that white tweed motto jacket? I never saw it IRL and can't tell if it's black or navy.

    2. Suz, I replied on IG earlier (you might have missed it...) the trim is black. Let me know if you need anything else. :)

  8. Article on Business Insider today, "We Visited J. crew and Witnessed Why Business is a Disaster." Sorry can't link. It's pretty harsh IMO. You can't disagree w some of the points but I don't think there are many other retailers doing much better in the fast fashion environment. Plus I will never like Zara or H&M as much as J Crew.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks, Ruffles. I agree that it's harsh. While I agree with some things in it, I don't consider Jcrew to be fast fashion so I think they unfairly are harping about the prices compared to fast fashion stores. Some of those fast fashion stores reek so badly of chemicals I can't even go in them. I'm rooting for JCrew, still love them. :)

      Delete
    2. Not to defend the Crew at any cost but this isn'the in any way an "analysis" of why JCREW is struggling. While I agree on a few points (like athletic wear) , this is simply the impression of someone who happens go be a journalist at Business Insider. I am sick of this kind of "journalism"...

      Delete
    3. I would never put J. Crew in the same category as Zara or H&M so I think the article is off base. I don't shop at either of those stores as I don't want fast fashion. I would agree at this point that some of J Crew's offerings are now throw away but I can still find silk and wool at a reasonable price. Yes the silk is not as lux as it used to be and the wool may be thinner but show me a retailer where this isn't happening? Not that I don't agree w/ some points but come on.

      Delete
    4. I also don't shop at Zara or H&M, and agree the article is off the mark if it's comparing J.Crew with either of those stores. Not interested. I don't even shop at the Gap anymore with any frequency.

      Delete
    5. I thought the article was shallow. The real loss to retail customers is Banana Republic, where almost everything is made of flimsy polyester and the discounts are larger and larger and more and more frequent. I applaid JC for still trying to offer silks, cottons, woollens. The customer service can still be amazing, both in person and by phone. And there are still items that sell out. I do think there's a recent history of questionable items and some questionable business decisions, but this is pervasive in the industry. Keep at it, JC! And while I'm at it, please can there be less lox-colored merch? (sits down, slips off plaid Avery shoes, goes back to working on pre-order wishlist)

      Delete
    6. I agree with everyone's assessment. This is less of an investigation and rather an opinion piece, it isn't fair to put J Crew with Zara and HM. I think her assumption highlights J Crew's struggle right now, they don't know who they are either. I think it is a major mistake to discontinue bridal since they really shined in that category but I do agree with the opinion on the overpriced work out gear, pom poms, glitter sweatshirts, and bow headbands. Leave that to Zara and focus on the basics with some added style. The niche I see right now for them is looking at quality materials and construction which appears to have plenty of space for them to occupy as most retailers have shifted away. I always use to depend on Lands End for that sort of thing and they are struggling as well. Give the red fleece line at Brooks Brothers a run for its money, J Crew could really shine. I also think they need to look at who is running its women's line, maybe it's time to "let it {or her} goooooooo!"

      Delete
    7. I agree as well--Zara and H&M are no where close to JCrew in terms of quality. Yes, J.Crew has things that need to be corrected, however, I will take JCrew any day over Zara and/or H&M.

      Delete
    8. Yeah, this is definitely an opinion piece masquerading as journalism. Comparison doesn't work, & by the way, J Crew isn't being sued for its pricing policies that overcharge US customers (I posted to Zara's FB about this discrepancy a few months ago based upon € to $ & received a ridiculous explanation) or for a dead rat being sewn into a dress. If the latter is true, Yikes!

      Delete
    9. Agree with everyone's opinions, glad all are in agreement! Ridiculous comparisons. @WFF, thanks for calling out Banana, I think they have fallen far worse with their polyester offerings - I walked into a store this summer and their massive sale racks were a sea of polyester. Agree that JC has certainly made mistakes along the way, including the recent bridal discrimination and the seemingly out-of-place gym stuff, but I absolutely love their customer service. I hope they're able to right their ship because I would miss them if they were gone.

@Mygoddy, good points re) Zara - I think both they and H&M have been accused of ripping off designs from graphic artists. Lame!

      Delete
    10. I agree with this opinion piece. At least in the offering J. Crew has had and general direction. Many of the prints, patterns, and quirky things have just been down right awful. When I saw the adverts all I could think of is who would wear this, it's so tacky.

While I agree comparing J. Crew to H&M is a bit much, I think the point is they are losing actual customers there. J. Crew isn't doing quality basics very well and I don't think they have hit the mark with stylish more upscale trends. It doesn't make anyone feel the price difference is justified. You mind as well shop somewhere where the price matches the quality. I have been shopping more at A&F and buying the few nice pieces I want from brands a step above J. Crew.

      Delete
    11. Hi Jessica - I agree with your point re: quality basics. If you read reviews of most of their "classics" (Jackie, Minnie, Pixie, Tippi, etc.), usually the most helpful/upvoted one indicates that due to quality/construction/design changes they're not as good as they used to be.

I don't think that a trip to a B&M is really going to shed a lot of light on why "business is a disaster" (is it?) - rather really reading customer reviews, listening to feedback and looking at inventory. What sells out? What sits in the sale section for months? What is returned for being defective? (Of course, this would require returns to actually be processed with an accurate code rather than just "Changed Mind").

      Delete
    12. I mean one person's trip is going to be very anecdotal, so in terms of gathering reliable data, no. But if you're trying to personally understand what J. Crew is lacking and you are the target audience, I think it's fair to go to the store and form your own opinions. J. Crew is clearly doing neither and that is the problem. When sales associates agree with the average customer, that's an issue. Me and SA spent five minutes discussing why J.Crew just can't offer a full length skinny jean. It's a staple of this era and they don't offer it.

      Delete
    13. @jessica or any full length pants whatsoever even in fall/winter! This has been the case for the past few years.

  9. Considering the event tomorrow morning. It is not convenient for me. Will there be exclusions to the 40%?

    1. The email I received does say exclusions apply. See sales associate for details. So who knows. It seems the stores do not enforce the exclusions uniformally so it may depend where you shop.

  14. Won't go this weekend but will probably stop in early next week for returns (elsewhere). I had ordered Madewell Perfect Vintage jeans. I liked them ok, but returned them because I have others that are very similar. When the price was slashed I ordered them again. This pair can barely be zipped up. They definitely feel like they're a size or two smaller than the first pair. (I mean, like everyone else, my weight does fluctuate a few lbs here and there, but this would be about a ten pound difference and the rest of my clothes fit.) :(
Also wondering if anyone's seen the HTHR SORBET color in the Regent Topcoat? Wondering if it's pepto pink as it looks on my monitor or more of a pinky mauve.

  19. Got to my store at about 10:30 and it was crowded and people were buying a lot. The fitting rooms looked like a bomb went off so I am guessing this promo helped pushed merchandise. I walked out empty handed. The wolfs tooth pants were not available in my size and the items I was interested in from the holiday rollout were not on the floor. I liked the houndstooth tippi but I don't need another sweater right now or probably ever. Hope others faired better!

  21. I just left my store. I bought the houndstooth Tippi, watch plaid pajamas and snake print Charlies. The sweater and pajamas were more like 50% off because of the other promo, it was sort of strange. I also had some $20 off $100 and I used two of those. I am happy about prices on these items. Also got the tote bag, a cup of coffee and a Krispy Kreme donut.

  22. I went to the Oakbrook, IL store today. At first, I thought that I would be the only person in line; however, that was not the case. There were quite a few people just after 9:00 am and a little wait for check out.

There didn't seem to be a lot of what I wanted in store. There was only 1 of the Bow Shoulder top in festive plaid and it just happened to be an 8. I really wanted the Thomas Mason shirt with velvet bow. It was not in store (Michigan Ave only :(), and it was excluded from the sale. I did end up purchasing the Bow Shoulder top, a neon pink Jackie that I LOVED and the cherry print top. I tried on the A line dress in double-serge wool. It's actually MUCH better than the online photo and very nice. I prefer the Heather Lilac color and may order it online during black Friday with a 40% off promo.

There was orange juice, coffee and a couple of mini baked goods. I did get a tote - not cute, but it will work for the grocery store.

It was nice to get a close park and shop without the crowds.

  23. I went to the Boston Copley location this morning and it was pretty busy. No tote bags :( but grabbed a donut. The store didn't have a lot of items I was eyeing on the site, but I got the sailor-stripe funnelneck shirt after an associate found a smaller size in the back for me. I also bought the relaxed wool turtleneck sweater in burgundy. It's a nice, not too oversized tunic.

  24. went to the Georgetown location this am & OMG you would hv thought the entire store was 90% off. People had piles of stuff and the line to checkout was to the rear of the store. I waited almost an hr to checkout. The reason why I went to GTown & not another store was that I was hoping they would hv the new double breasted blazer, F8113 but sadly they did not. When I got home I took a chance & did a chat and the rep was nice enough to honor the 40% off, yay!!!!!

  25. Just returned from the in-store event in Portland, OR. There was a small crowd waiting for the doors to open at 9 and it felt busy but not overly chaotic shopping with more customers than I usually see. The SA's were pretty busy with fitting room turnover but it wasn't too crazy, and check out was quick. Fairly small sales section, nothing available from the pre-order selection, but I got a donut and a tote and some fairly good deals with an extra 20 off 100 coupon, so it was worth the trip for me.

    1. Downtown Portland? I have a hard time imagining people waiting for doors to open.

    2. Yep, Pioneer Square. The mall isn't usually open that early so the exterior glass doors were locked, there were maybe about 10 people waiting outside. Eventually the SAs directed us around the mall to an unlocked/unmarked employee entrance door to get in while they waited for mall security to open the usual mall entrance.

    2. It was from 9-11 and they sent insider's an email. I didn't get the email, but I found it on a coupon code site. You just had to let them know you were an insider to get in.
