Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I received the Boden Chino Tunic dress in denim, and the Modern Denim dress last week. I'm rather obsessed with denim dresses right now!

I bought the Chino Tunic dress in both 10L and 12L as I don't own any Boden dresses and didn't quite believe Boden's size recommendation of 10 for me (I'm a 12 in J.Crew). The 12L was too big around the hips, so I went straight for the 10L. +1 for Boden recommending the right size! The fabric was really soft and has a good balance between enough stretch and enough structure. The length of the 10L is 36", which is just long enough on my 5'9" frame. The pockets are well cut and don't stick out. The denim is a bit lighter than the J.Crew denim sheath dress, which along with the pockets, makes for a more casual look. At $47.10 on clearance its comparable to the current Denim Sheath promo, and if I had to choose one, I'd go for the Denim Sheath. However, they're different enough that I'm considering keeping both.

The Modern Tunic dress is the beautiful, dark denim that the J.Crew Denim Sheath should have been. It's a bit sitiff, and I can see this cut/fabric combo being unappealing to a lot of women. I once again ordered both the 12L and 10L, and the 10L fit perfectly, +1 to Boden for consistent sizing! The cut is a bit boxy, and it does pull a little bit across the chest when I move my arms (all dresses look great standing still!), but I'm not busty so I'm okay with that as I really want a denim dress with sleeves. The Modern Denim dress is pricey at $108, but it was 20% off when I got it, and 30% off with the Black Friday promo.

  2. I've shared a list of Thanksgiving Weekend Sales & Deals from some of my favorite retailers on my blog today. Lots of great promos going on right now! Click here to see the list.

  3. I ordered a sweater and pair of earrings from Banana online due to their 50% off promo. They arrived yesterday in a bag with no individual packaging inside - the earrings were loose inside the bag and the posts were snagged in the threads of the sweater! I really couldn't believe it. They could have at least wrapped the earrings in tissue to prevent them from snagging the sweater. Apparently the bad packaging issue is not exclusive to J.Crew.

  4. Lord and Taylor has pretty good cashmere and it's been marked down drastically for Black Friday. Also, shipping is free. Don't know how long that will last but it's a good deal. The colors and styles aren't as great as J. Crew but the basics are fine and quality is good. A couple of the basics are marked down to $39.99.

  5. Kendra Scott up to 70% off, extra 20% off with Sale20 & free shipping through Monday. The jet set organizer finally went on sale, so I ordered. There are some good deals.
