Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Good morning, JCA’s. Happy Friday and Happy Veteran’s Day. Review extravaganza!

Relaxed heather turtleneck sweatshirt (F8814) - I have a love/hate relationship with turtlenecks, and for me this is one of the better ones. The turtleneck is thick, but relaxed enough that it doesn’t look like a cervical collar. Slightly relaxed in my usual S but is just right, I wouldn’t size down and risk any shrinkage in the wash. This is that kind of sweatshirt that looks rough on the other side of the fabric, as opposed to fleece. Is that french terry? I can never remember. Thumbs up. (PS - I don’t know why this is in with the JC x NB stuff, there’s no indication that it’s NB on the tag.)

Boy shirt in crinkle plaid (f4554) - Is anybody else finding that some of JC’s plaids don’t really translate well between the web/catalog/IRL? I found this plaid to be much darker than the catalog image, and the white areas seemed kind of grey. This shirt felt like wearing tissue paper. Maybe the navy Stewart plaid would work better for me. Return.

Festive plaid button-up shirt (f8994) - Another tricky plaid because I keep thinking I see green in it online, but definitely not IRL. Also, it looks like a popover with a small collar (like a tuxedo shirt) in pics but is really a full button-down with a regular collar. The fabric was thicker than the boy shirt in crinkle plaid, and I was pleased to see there weren’t stray threads everywhere like there are with JC’s button-downs sometimes. It’s cute, I just didn’t love it because it wasn’t what I was expecting. Return.

Tuxedo-inspired long-sleeve t-shirt (f9036) - Now, why can’t their tees be thick like this one is? I tried the heather dove and it was not see-through. The bib and cuffs were kind of shiny, and the bib looked bigger when I was wearing it (like a breastplate) than it looked online. Cute, but not for me. Return.

Striped Holly sweater (f8623) - Love. I didn’t find it to be too short, and I’m always on the lookout for that kind of thing. It’s nice to see an all-wool sweater, as the men’s side does these all the time. My only quibble is that JC’s ivory always surprises me - on the website and catalog image, the stripes look white but they’re definitely not white-white IRL. Thumbs up.

Knit pajama set in polka dot (f8586) - The cotton/spandex feels a little cool against the skin, but these are very nice pajamas. Again with the ivory - it the dots look white online, but more beige IRL. The brilliant flame is more red than orange, sometimes “brilliant flame” or “modern red is very orangey and I didn’t find that to be the case.

Striped scarf with pom-poms (g0234) - Super cute (I tried the navy marine green). I think they adjusted the size (83"L x 14 3/4”W)
a little bit from last year (70"L x 25”W) - it’s longer, but definitely not as wide and therefore doesn’t feel as overwhelming. Thumbs up.

Sorel Out N About boot in Elk Melon - Okay, I ordered the 8.5 because I tried the same version from Madewell last year and found the 9 too big and 8 too small. The 8.5 was too tight with sport socks so I reordered in a 9. I think they’ll fit just right with heavy socks. I think they’ll be just what I need for the winter - a waterproof boot with good treads that I can also drive in, which is harder to do with taller boots. Thumbs up!

    1. Thank you for the great reviews! You've inspired me to try the holly sweater this year (last year I found it too short and boxy), hoping its maybe a little longer this year?

    2. I really liked the Holly sweater, too. The fit was nice. I sized up one size to layer a button up or popover underneath for a nice relaxed fit. I went with the pink color and it's lovely (has a really pretty purple "heathered" in to it, but the green is quite nice, too. With 30% off the other day, the price was right for a wool sweater in a pretty color.

    3. Great reviews, silver_lining! I went and looked up the items you reviewed after I read about them, was helpful to have your input. If the Holly sweater is in stores, I will check it out later today, as I have to go in for a return (Corduroy Campbell Blazer in Petite -- I've tried every possible size for my size/weight & the cut simply doesn't work for me for one reason or another.)

    4. Thank you for the heads up on the not white white stripes. The pictures do make them look white so you saved me a return.

  2. Happy Veteran's Day! Still recovering from Election Day but had a happy mail day yesterday.

Gallabia Peru Mini Dress in red/white - I know it's fall, but I wanted this dress since seeing it online but couldn't justify the price for a cover up. When it hit sale, I ordered. I have curves; fit is tts & length is similar to stock photo. This dress is beautiful. Embroidery is well done & the tassels are a lovely accent. Love the billowy sleeves & can be worn belted or not. Linen cotton blend is a very good quality & works well for spring/summer. I think you can wear it as a dress too; lining is thick enough with nude undergarments, so more functionality.

Collection Maxi Skirt in Tartan. Skirt was on 30% off promo + educator discount. The poly/wool blend (55% poly/45% wool) doesn't feel rough to me as noted by the online review. Nice weight for winter and lining is polyester. I know poly will pose an issue for some. I thought the skirt had pockets from the stock photo but it doesn't. I sized up based upon IG review by @azshoegirl. That gave me more room, but could've gone with my normal size. Skirt is VERY long. I'm over 5.8. and will need to have this skirt hemmed at least a few inches to wear with 3" heels. Skirt is very versatile. Can be paired with a crisp white cotton shirt that's tied @ the waist, striped tee like the style guide or dressed up for a holiday event. Bought to wear to a Pinning Ceremony for MBA grads next month, but will likely wear before then because it's such a good option. Only purchase from recent roll out & happy with this one.

    1. Thanks for the heads up about the Peru dress. I've loved it since it was released so I may have to give it a try eventually. The wrap skirt sounds lovely but would probably be a no go on us shorties!

    2. It went up to my boobs. It did feel it a bit scratchy...

    3. Haha Ema. Maybe you could wear as a strapless gown!

    4. I'm 5'2" so this skirt was super long on me and agree the material was scratchy. I didn't like it enough to shorten it. I thought it also didn't drape well but could be because of my height and how much I'd have to cut off the bottom.

    5. @shoppingcelle HTH! I wore the Collection Tartan Maxi skirt today & posted pics on IG (peterst1). @ azshoegirl is a ahortie & she's having it hemmed. Check out her IG too; I'm sure she'll post once she wears it.

  3. Nice to see 40% off on line today. Sad that it is all the same old stuff and nothing of interest to me. I really feel like I finally hit a point where my closet is complete. I am finding it easier to pass on things as I know I already have something similar or there will be something else similar offered down the line. I think I really miss the awesome prints most. The recent ones have really not been calling to me.

    1. I agree--I really expected a huge update to the sale section today. I own two margot tops and will likely buy at least one more when they go on sale! -lep33shops

    2. @lauren was able to snag the Margot top in pine forest in my size yesterday, 25% off and no free shipping. Today's promo would have been a better deal, but no Margot top in my size. So no regrets. My first Margot top: didn't want to order it as I wouldn't be able to wear till spring, but in December I'm visiting my son who is studying in Chile currently and of course it's summer there, so that was a good reason to buy the Margot top - the excuses we come up with;-))

  4. Happy Veteran's Day! I ordered some items to try, pleased to see 40 percent off and no final sale; both collection lace pencil skirts, one in white one in black, the cherry print wrap dress, brushstroke print dress, and collection pinafore dress, also some white matchstick jeans for 30 dollars.

  5. I've been eyeing the Bird of Paradise pants (f6374) for a while so, with the cardmember promo, my rewards and free shipping, I bought them. I hope I love them! Hoping to wear them for holiday parties coming up!

  6. Will be visiting my local Natick, ma store this weekend. Want to share my love for item F5681 the Collection skirt in Italian wool flannel. It's tts , soft and I find the fabric drape in the front different and beautiful. I posted a pic on my Instagram @jcrewmycrew and styled it with boots.

  7. OT, but too good not to share: Bobbi brown is offering 20% off online. I love Bobbi brown products but stopped using her foundations years ago when I was suffering from occasional breakouts. Now that my skin is more mature (ahem) and I'm not loving my bare minerals as much as I have in the past I decided to try a new (old regimen).
After "chatting" with an artist online I decided to get the extra tinted balm, eye brightener, retouching stick for extra coverage where needed, and sheer pressed powder. I also ordered Bobbi's Beaty book lip/eye/cheek palette because the colors are beautiful and I do love the product. I'm excited to try old stuff again and some new!

  8. I decided to go ahead aND buy the star Tippi on line with free shipping. There will probably be a better deal ahead but I kind of want to wear it now before turtleneck season starts. Plus it's festive and goes with a lot of stuff in my closet.

    1. I bought that one when it first debuted, have already worn it and I quite love it! I actually thought it might even sell out, but there seems to be a full-size run at all times. I hope they make another pattern like this -- so pretty! Perfect for the season.

    2. I just purchased it as well and I think it's a great price. really looking forward to it.

    3. Atlantic /Pacific/ Blair Eadie just posted a pic on IG WEARING that star Tippi sweater with the gold pleated midi and a navy pea coat. (And what looks to be a little gold Chanel cross body bag.) I'm assuming it's the J.Crew Gold pleated and not the Gucci but I didn't click to check out all the details. Ema if memory serves you returned your gold skirt but it looks really cute together. (Although a bit matchy matchy of course.)

    4. I saw that, was about to post. I think Blaire's is the Gucci one but yes I had a of regret upon seeing her outfit (although the reason why I sold it is that it was a bit ill-fitting). Would love a crazy pair of gold leather pants to wear with it though!

    5. Gap has a gold pleated skirt in their holiday release. Looks more like knee length than midi. With current promo it came to about $41 in case anyone is looking for something similar. Mine is on order. I may need the star tippi now to go with it!

  9. I stopped in today. Sale is 50% in store (not sure if it was final) and they're doing the 25% off/30% with your card. I tried on a bunch of stuff and will get pics on the blog soon. Decided to get a black Regent the grey/black striped waffle tee and a pretty white tortoise link/bauble necklace.

Also received the tall lace peplum today in black and love it. It is a black underlay vs the navy it appears online. I'm a 10/12 on top and the 10T is perfect. Also received the multicolored tweed dress (navy /white /red/gold) which is a love, it's cut similar to the red foulard dress, more generous in the hips so if you have a straighter figure this could be difficult for you. I love it though. My dress arrived with a gaping hole in the seam though but CS sent me a new one with an additional discount... Gotta love their customer service. More to come on the tryons this weekend!

    1. I tried the tall lace peplum top too, in beige, and I love it as well! it seems really well made, cute, and will look great with pants/skirts for holiday

    2. Thanks for the tip!! I usually can't wear those dresses because of the hip issues and ended up buying the foulard dress because of your review and it's a dream. I'll look for this too.

  10. Stopped in today to do an exchange and was ambushed by all the new pieces instore! Lots of tryons, including the London and Paris tees, the stars Tippi, and the wolfstooth dress - the latter is particularly striking and fits beautifully, even on my curves. I found everything to be tts, though the London tee fits more generously than the others due to the softer drapey fabric used. Note that the destination tees and the Tippi did not qualify for the 25% instore though they do online - get it together, JCrew. Pics on my insta @poettodesign if you're interested.

    1. Thanks for the reviews @cagliari687. The dress looks really great on you. I hope to see the London tee at my store. Didn't see it on-line.

  11. Thanks maryeb! I definitely saw the London tee online last night, check the new arrivals section. It's as cute as all the others but does run a tad more relaxed.

  12. I posted some photos of my try-ons yesterday - the shift dress in multicolored tweed, silk twill pant and flounce dress in wolfstooth, lace dress with pockets, ponte pleated dress (loved this), pintucked lace pencil skirt, and the lace peplum top which I tried out as a "hookup" with a lace pencil skirt and lace pants. You can see the photos on my blog here.

I have more photos of some casual items which I'll get up in the next few days.

    1. Very helpful reviews, Anne. That shift dress fits you perfectly and I loved how you styled it with the red shoes. Agree with everything you said about that lace dress -- could have been such a winner, whatever were they thinking! I like the tipped color, wish they had applied those details to the armholes and hem maybe, rather than the bizarre pockets. (& yeah, i could see two of them, at most, not 4!!) That l/s ponte dresses also looks nice on -- I remember you saying recently (i think) that the other l/s dress with the straighter skirt didn't work as well.

Loved the lace ensembles! Looking forward to the rest of the reviews! (I haven't bought anything terribly exciting lately -- waiting on a pair of Sperry flannel winter boots. Bought the Lady Day in Navy, I keep trying it on daily b/c it's def too long on me, but maybe that's ok....decisions!)

    2. Same experience w the Shift Dress in Tweed. It's a GREAT dress! I love that it pairs well w red shades for the holidays but doesn't scream Christmas, and I found it to fit perfectly TTS. I will get a lot of wear out of this one!

I tried the Wolfstooth because I'm a big houndstooth fan but it didn't flatter me - may have been ab combination of the style and scale of the print, but I wanted to love it.

  13. Vancouver stores sale section 40% off. hit up
the West Van store. usually do both downtown stores if I want a fix.
-lots of Jewelery on sale ( statement earings...but too heavy for my lobes )
-two very friendly helpful (guys ) SA's. they made my visit a nice one...
-tried the wolfstooth pants and shift dress. both a miss / don't care for the fabric...or elastic waistpants (at this price anyway) the pants felt short in the rise..sat just barely at my lower point of waist . they are cropped . I think a cuffed hem would have made them feel more expensive...too me they felt kind of cheapish..the pants also when I sat down were tight in the calf area..had to pull them down when I stood up. the fabric is a funny one...feels weird. I would have like the Rhodes fit of pants in this fabric.
-tried the t-shirts (the striped one with the attached cuffs and the one with the silky bid front and cuffs...again...a miss for me.
-did love the over sized striped turleneck in navy camel...TTS. it is just oversized enough in your true size.
the lace pencil skirt...I commented last week they messed it up the the front with pin tucking.... but its fine. really very nice and the green color would be bold but in a really good way. Its a pretty green IRL.
-all the PJ s are out...all colors of the Holly sweater...I only like the greenish one ...it is a little short.
-the new bib front ruffle white shirt is nice...but it will hit sale at some point for sure...
the shoes ,scarves , purses all out and decorated with cute tags etc.
    - small leather pouches..(The smallist size is tiny..IMO)like the mid size one ...and if I get one I think I like the citron color best.
the store was fairly busy with alot of women trying on dresses and the lace pants...these were looking very nice on everyone. But I had last years and never wore them so I returned them...returners remorse on this one.
thanks to all the JCA's for the above reviews ...it narrowed down my try ons for my visit today.... Carolyn from Vancouver

  14. Went to JCrew and Madewell to return.

Madewell's in-store promo is extra 25%, 5% more than the online. If you like their coats, select styles are 30% off! Not sure if that promo is state wide because California weather has been pretty mild the past two weeks...maybe coat sales are low for November.

At J.Crew I saw the sleeveless Lace Dress in black. Although I didn't try it, I was impressed with the quality. I want to try it now. :-)
