"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I returned an item, and J Crew issued me a 'gift certificate' for the money instead of crediting my JC Card!

I order a the gingham cashmere sweater, and when I received it, the paperwork was different than usual - I guessed they must have sent it from a store. I didn't like it on me, so I sent it back. A couple of weeks later I received a gift card in the mail for about $150. I was confused, but later was told that that was my 'refund' for the sweater because the paperwork in the package (everything they'd sent me BTW) wasn't right, they couldn't be sure where or when I purchased the sweater. This was upsetting because they had all the information they needed - I bought it on-line from their site and paid with my JC Card for heaven's sake - they had more information on the purchase than I did!

After I called and complained, they issued me a credit on my credit card. But, as a result, I'm less confident in returns - I cannot afford a 'store credit only' return policy!

  2. I was coming here to vent about the exact same thing, only I did an in-store return! The salesperson insisted my items were final sale and that I could only get refunded via a gift card. I pointed out there was no "Final Sale" verbiage on the receipt or order email, but he wouldn't budge. I had to call customer service to get it straightened out. If this is the new policy I'll stop shopping online....

  3. This happened to me once last summer. I was made to feel so embarrassed about my return even though nothing was marked final sale on the invoices. The SA did credit my credit card but made a huge deal about how sale items purchased on line were all final sale. I stated none were marked final sale and did not try to argue further but it left a bad taste in my mouth. That was the one and only time I encountered that SA so I am guessing he did not last long. I should not know the policies better than the people who work there!
