"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Inconsistent responses from CS, one makes a promise, another one says they can't honor it despite the notes on my account. Btw, this was in response to them mailing me a damaged item, and I am being lectured in the process. I love my store's SAs but this is not making me feel like I want to reward J Crew with my hard earned money

  2. Yesterday items previously on sale and eligible for the 50% off sale mysteriously went back to full price.

Today I received an order and it's a completely different item and final sale. Not looking forward to the possible fun of tracking down what I tried to get and returning the wrong item they sent me.

    1. jcrew guy - same here. After waiting nearly 2 weeks for my order to be completed and shipped, the last outstanding item showed up yesterday and it is a completely different sweater AND it has a big snag right in front. I know the sweater I ordered is sold out now. :(

    2. Same thing happened to me. I ordered something last week (that is sold out now) and received the wrong item today. With that letter from Mickey in the box no less :-(

    3. It's so aggravating! Last week I received a Jackie cardigan with a big hole in the placket. Didn't realize the hole was there until I unbuttoned it to put it on. Then had to wait a week for the replacement to be shipped to me. GRR!

    4. Update on wrong item shipped. GREAT customer service from J Crew. CS immediately credited my account and let me select another sweater honoring the sale price I paid since the sweater I ordered was sold out. J Crew is also expediting shipping for this. I'm very pleased with the way this situation was handled. Good job, J Crew!

    5. Shopalot Thanks for reminding me what to do.

Originally I reached out to my go to contact; but she must be crazy busy and I didn't hear back from her. I called in to CS and since I'm in Canada they transferred me to another gal who was awesome.

The shirt I wanted is sold out, but she credited my account the money and told me to keep the item sent. Very kind of them.

SAILBOAT GARMENT-DYED T-SHIRT (ITEM F1670): i've worn and washed this item a couple of times already... but i wore it yesterday and got blue dye all over my arms and torso. it's been hot in NJ and i'm guessing i was sweating a little more than usual (sorry... TMI) but i don't think the dye should still be bleeding at this point!

and that UPS mail innovations tracking deal: i got my stuff already (actually even exchanged some stuff for different sizes) but the "tracking" still hasn't changed from "order processed"... you had one job mail innovations... ONE JOB! :/

    1. The order tracking is the worst. What is the point if it never updates? All other stores I order from have order tracking that updates. Frustrating...I don't like packages sitting on my front porch.

    2. I have that t-shirt and haven't run into this bleeding problem, but I looked at the online reviews and wow - amazingly awful!!!! I wonder if there is a bad batch or something? Try setting the dye by soaking it in cold water with some white vinegar and a little salt. That's what I'm doing at the moment just to be on the safe side!

    3. Totally agree about Mail Innovations. An order I placed several days ago was placed in the "order processed" stage on 7/24, and the site still says that. I received the order yesterday. That is completely unacceptable to me.

  4. Has anyone seen that Tippi Bee sweater in real life? I saw it today in a store. It is paper thin. I have no idea how you would wear it. It's a not-intentionally sheer, sheer sweater. How did that one get past quality control? All of J. Crew's talk of getting back to its roots and returning to better quality and it turns out a garment that is so sheer and so cheap looking.

    1. This is the main reason almost everything eventually makes it to sale...know one in the right minds would pay full price...for shirts made out of thin see through cottons, cheap pilling sweaters. Itsfast fashion with a higher starting price tag..that has to hit sale for any of us who have seen the item in store to purchase.
the only item I purchased this spring summer was teh deconsructed striped blazer...super sale...and I might not even wear it until next year. I am slowly learning to be ver discerning with my purchase...too many mistake in my closet that i end up giving away. my new motto...is less J CREW OVER ALL

    3. Hi Beverly - I saw it today and agree on the thinness. Their ivory Tippis have been pretty see-through for a while now.

JC gets so close to a great item sometimes and then takes a cost-cutting measure and completely drives into a ditch. For example, those garment-dyed tees - made in USA, nice shape and great colors, but they can't even give them away in the sale section.

    4. I thought I'd found a way around J. Crew's too-sheer tees when I started buying some of the girls size 14 graphic tees. They weren't overly sheer and I thought, "Good for Crew for being sensitive enough not to add to a young girls self-consciousness." I ordered the girls Paris tee recently and found that it was a total peep show in the back. It's irritating enough when Crew does this to grown women. I can't imagine anything worse than to be a pre-teen who has to walk around with bra band or undershirt showing through. Shame on J. Crew. I'm sure they wouldn't let me put this comment in the review section, so posting here.

    5. Agree - they could have thought of that while they removed the wineglass and the bottle from the kids' tee and added glitter to the purse.

  5. j Crew using Canada Post again...but keeping the higher cost $12 which we had for a 3 day delivery with DHL.(while Can Post podered striking) wish they had kept DHL.
ordered on a thurs. weekends don't count...so it is generally 11/ 12 days before it shows up. for $12 !!! I am back to shopping instore only ( at least for a while...)

  6. Is the tippi bee sweater meant to be a more summer to fall transition sweater hence that's why it's on the sheer side? Or am I just convincing myself because I thought the tippi with the ruffles looked non substantial and "cheap" -- I'm sorry it wasn't passing my F21 or HM test ;p!

    1. That's exactly what I thought when I saw both of them. They both look like they came from a much cheaper retailer. The ruffled tippi especially looked and felt like it came straight from a tween store in my opinion.

  7. Just contacted customer service online for 2nd time since spring to get refund on garment dyed long sleeve t shirt with pocket. Holes show up after 1-2 launderings. They gave refund both times. I don't understand that level of fragility in a garment meant for everyday wear. Suggestions on who sells quality long sleeved tees in fun colors please!

    1. Not many fun colors, but I love everlane. Great quality, fair prices. Their silks are great too. I used to have irl pics when I had a blog, but I'll dig and see if I can find them to email them to you :)

    2. I also recommend American giant. I have both sweat shirts and Tees. Just watch the size charts.

    3. Thanks! I have considered Everlane, actually had a speak-out -loud-to-myself hissy fit today saying I am going to buy from them from here on out; I applaud their entire business model. I will look into American Giant too.
