JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I'm styling the Mixed Leather Strappy heels (in red from last season) on the blog today. I also snagged these in yellow from a previous release, but these are very comfortable heels and I love the silver.

  2. Bought the collection suede pants in navy. Original package was lost but I was able to call and track down my size 2, which fit true to size. Little high waisted but, 4 would be big in hips. Hoping they stretch a touch....Any styling ideas, shoes and boots. It's really a classic peice, but I don't know how to utilize them best.. Thanks ladies.

  3. I don't know where to put this but I had to say something - I just saw on Poshmark someone trying to sell a Factory jewelry bag (as in, the cloth sack that jewelry would be shipped in) for $16. That would be $21 with shipping costs. She also has it marked as "NWT." What is wrong with people?

    2. It drives me crazy on Poshmark that people try to sell items that are from Factory/Mercantile as J.Crew retail and then inflate the price. C'mon, the double dots give it away!

  4. I have plenty of those that I would give away for free...

    1. I always include a bag or box (days of old) when I consign my J Crew jewelry because they seem to breed and I want to get rid of them.

  5. This is OT but I just got off the phone with the store director in another state that I deal with quite a bit. I asked about the new stuff and when we could expect a promo. He told me that they are moving away from promotions and just lowering the price points with maybe a smaller percentage off in different categories at different times. I for one am not going to fall for that. I am still going to wait for a sale and then percentage off. I will be able to frequent the clearance store way more this fall, like almost every weekend so I am pretty excited about that since they are constantly getting current merchandise.

    1. @Doodle Dachshund, that's an interesting comment from your store director regarding promotions. I know many retailers, apart from J. Crew, are trying to retrain consumers into paying full-price and weaning them off of promotions. I think the idea of a lower starting price point is a sensible one, however, items still seem a tad overpriced IMO (the silk chain-link secretary top that recently debuted, for instance, is pretty, but I'm not sure this particular silk is the best quality and doesn't seem worthy of almost $100 of my money.) In store to view new arrivals recently, I did notice the practice your director mentioned of only offering a small percentage off of different categories -- in this case, it was the ballet tees (strange, since these already seem more or less well-priced to begin with.) It'll be interesting to see how this plays out between retailer and consumers. I'll continue to wait on my Wishlist for now.

    2. Almost all of it goes to sale eventually. There is nothing J. Crew sells that is so fabulous that I have to have it at full price, right away. I can't be retrained to not pay at least 25-30% off the starting price, it's just never going to happen. Why would I want to start paying more for my clothes, is J. Crew crazy? It's nice they're lowering their starting prices, and that may make me shop at J. Crew over other retailers, but still, not until a promotion or they hit sale.

  6. I have just ordered the Rhodes Blazer in White Linen at a great price, and I cannot wait to receive it. Looking for suggestions on how to style it to wear to work in a Corporate setting.

    2. @Suz thanks for the shout out! @AntiqueSuzanne you will love having a white blazer in your wardrobe... I paired mine Friday with a black sleeveless blouse and suit pants but also pair with printed blouses and solid pants and solid dresses. Enjoy!
