J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I own the campbell capri in both print and stretch cotton. I love fit although I do think they run a little large. I read the reviews on the website and noticed quite a few people had mentioned the centre seam splitting which I thought was odd because mine fit loosely in my regular size. I assumed the reviewers must have sized down. Then today I noticed my stretch cotton ones had started to split. The print version is still holding strong even though they are older and I have worn them more accordingly. I am not going to return them because I really like them so I will just have the seam resewn but J Crew if you are reading I think there is a problem with the thread you are using on this item. Please look into it. Thank you.

  2. Jude, you should do a product review on them. I did one for my Amour tee (it had a hole in it when I took it out of the package and after one wash the colors faded and another hole appeared)- and a CS rep emailed me directly to apologize and see if I wanted to return or replace it (I said no...it's a a good cleaning day shirt....)

    1. Thanks for the heads up. The thing is I really like them and I have a hard to bottom half. If I replace them I am pretty sure the same thing will happen and if I get a refund I have to find something else and well I have a hard to fit bottom half. I did submit a review on the website though and posted here too because I trust the reviews here more, shhhh ;) Cleaning day shirt: LOL.

I really love this cardigan - it fits true to size and will be a staple in my closet this summer!

  5. Hi JCAs! Has anyone tried the Scattered Floral Dress in neon blush? Item A6441. It's online only and no reviews online yet. I am thinking about getting it for an upcoming event and would love a review! TIA

  6. Hi! I'm cutting and pasting a review I previously did on another thread a few days back in case people missed it:

This is more of a review but I thought I'd put it out here for those JCA's that are going to be bargain hunting at their b&m's this weekend. I got my zippered pocket Pixies today (total cost $36!) and I really like them. They do fit different than the regular Pixies. They pull on instead of having a back zip. They are comfortable and the waist is maybe a smidge higher than the regular Pixies. I think I'll cut out the pocket linings for the zipper pockets b/c I'll never use them and maybe they'll lay a bit flatter. I ordered my usual Pixie size 6 and they feel a little roomier all around than the regular Pixies. I don't think I could've sized down though. I have the leather tuxedo stripe Pixies too and an old pair of regular Pixies that I've been thinking these would be a good replacement for. All in all, I prefer he regular Pixies the best, the zippered pocket Pixies second and the leather stripe Pixies third in terms of fit and comfort. But I love the way the leather stripe Pixies look with my "dressier" outfits. I absolutely lived in my regular Pixies all winter, so will most likely break down and buy another pair since sadly mine have a weird red spot on them. I had hoped the zipper or leather striped ones were going to be a good replacement, but they're just not as good as the originals IMO. But for the prices I go the other 2 for, they'll get use and were a great deal.

  7. Speaking of reviews, J Crew fixed the issue of reviews showing up as anonymous even if you provide a nickname.

  8. Has anyone tried/seen the Hooded Fatigue Jacket (item A4353) in green? I can see the color differences in the material going cute or clownish, and it's hard to tell from the website photos. And sizewise reviews seem to point toward sizing down. Any help would be much appreciated!

    1. Yes, bought it when it came out and love it. The green is a wonderful neutral mossy-type green that is not clownish as the photo might suggest. The color variations look natural, and I think as the fabric wears in it all looks fine. Boxy fit, so I sized down (5'10", pear shape, size M) and there's plenty of room for layers. The hood is great for our weather in the Pacific NW. The things I'd change if I could would be adding a zipper in addition to buttons for quicker fastening and putting a pocket on the inside for keeping items safer. And, because I'm tall, I'd love a tall option for added length, since it juuuuust fits in the sleeves as is.

  11. I posted a review on the JC site, but I'll add here that the drapey linen drawstring pants were a win on me. Just the right balance of slim and slouchy. Even though the site says City Fit, I found that these hit me at the natural waist. That's probably to be expected given that I am an hourglass so that's where the elastic will wind up, but there was still plenty of room in the rise. In fact, if you look at the model's photo they look a little droopy in the rise on her. I have a couple of pairs of linen drawstring pants from Nordstrom that DH loathes because he says they look like pajamas. The JC pants have a much more tailored look, so they can be dressed up for a business casual office.

  12. Has anyone bought or tried on the peacoat trench? It's still in the sale section in the navy and calls to me! Any info would be appreciated! Thanks

    1. Hi levbacon, I bought it in British khaki back in Feb and had to return it. For reference, I am 4'11 and bought the XXS. I usually buy J.Crew coats in size 0 or P0 or P2. It's a sturdy (stiff) thick cotton peacoat, with removable vest. Given that it has that removable lining, it might feel a tad snug, so you might want to consider that if you are torn between sizing. Another JCA who bought it mentioned that she didn't like the stiffness of it. I think it'll soften up after a few wears...IMO. Also mentioned by a fellow JCA, were the buttons-its huge.

I returned it because the coat was wearing me and not the other way around. If it was offered in petite, I would've bought it. I really liked the coat and wanted it to work on me so bad...If returning is convenient for you, and since its not final sale, buy two different sizes and see how both fits..

      Good luck!
PS: I'm still on a hunt for a perfectly fit khaki colored trench.. :)

    2. @levbacon - I had the same issues as JSR had with the coat. I own JC outerwear in XXS (the ones with shorter sleeves) and PXXS and button-downs in PXXS. The sleeves for the XXS peacoat trench were not too long, but the sleeve cut into my underarm, although the top of the shoulders fit. The a-line cut also flared out way too much and overwhelmed my petite frame.

@JSR - Take a look at the Factory petite trench coat (A4587). It looks like almost all sizes are sold out right now, but maybe you might find petite returns at a store. I'm 5'1" and tried the PXXS. I haven't posted a review yet because I haven't decided if the proportions are quite right for me, but I suppose I can at least provide my initial thoughts for other JCAs who are interested. The belt placement is the point of contention for me, as it hits the bottom of my ribs and might look a little baby-doll on me, but it might work for you. I don't think I could move the belt loops down since they are placed about a centimeter above the pockets. Otherwise, sleeve length and shoulders are perfect, although I don't think I can layer much underneath. Being able to layer might not be too much of an issue since it is lined and the cotton is substantial enough to provide a little extra warmth. I was rather surprised at how wide the sleeves were cut, given the petite cut of the rest of the coat, but tightening the wrist belt to the first hole seems to have solved that issue. Tightening the wrist belt creates slight gathers on the sleeve, but maybe that was the intention. The length hits mid-thigh, as noted in the product description. If sizing were available, I'd like to try the PXS and/or the XXS to see if the belt might sit slightly lower and if there were more room in the shoulders for layering.

    3. I have the navy peacoat trench in XS and love it! I'm 5'5", 110 lbs. Even with the quilted lining I could layer a sweater under. It's chic and just the right weight/stiffness for Spring in NY. The large buttons are adorable and the pockets too.

    4. I am 5'10" and usually an 8-10/M on top, but mostly that's for sleeve length as I'm a pear shape with not much on top. The coat called to me as well, and I bought a M, which fits great in the shoulders and body but is short in the arms. Because of the style, I think the bracelet length of the sleeve looks okay. I prefer it buttoned because I think it looks more pulled together. There's room for a light layer and a scarf. Ordered mine with sale price + discount and it's still pricey for me, but I think it has a classic look that will last. The stiff fabric does ease up with time and wear. Definitely a more casual look.

  15. Mr. BrownShorts just delivered my order of the Patch Pocket Skirt in stretch cotton. I ADORE it! I bought all three colors and I'm so happy I did! I ordered my No 2 pencil skirt size and they fit beautifully. I really love that the Patch Pocket skirt is still very slim....I wouldn't really call it an A-line. It's got the silhouette of a pencil skirt (almost), but the long front pleat makes it very comfortable. I love the cobalt blue and have a cotton summer cardigan from a couple years back that matches nicely. The navy is a great basic and the white is everything I hoped for in the salt side slit skirt that it didn't have. And it's white....not glaring white, but alot whiter than the "salt" color. The Patch Pocket skirt is a great basic and (I think) quiet classically stylish. Substantial fabric, nicely lined, very nicely tailored, belt loops!.Finally a garment with all the qualities that made me fall in love with the Crew in the first place. Just for reference.....I'm 5' 9" and it falls right at the top of my knee. Perfection!

  18. I am planning a 10-day trip to France (Paris & Riviera) at the end of June and am trying to pack light. I think the gold metallic Evie or Lillian sandals should go with most of what I pack -- but which should I get? They both look good. Any thoughts? I'll be doing a lot of walking some days.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Cancan, both sandals look great, but I would strongly recommend closed-toe shoes for walking around Paris. City streets can get really dusty, and after a full day of walking, you might want something keeps your feet mostly covered. A comfortable pair of ballet flats would work well. J.Crew has several ballet flats in metallic gold right now - you might want to check out some of those!

If you're sold on the sandals, though, I would go with the Lillian; I think the wedge heel would be better for walking.

      Enjoy your trip!

  19. Move over statement necklaces...the new earings are humungous ! Better put away all the jewels as with those earings anymore jewellery would be too much.

  21. If anyone is interested in the embroidered floral racer top and dress, which are now on sale, I tried them on today and really liked them, in all colors. The racer top fits TTS, not big like some of JC sleeveless items. Definitely neon, but I feel like it will still be pretty easy to wear, as it's just a little top and it's just embroidery on that little top. I ended up purchasing both. As for the dress, it also runs TTS. My store only had the neon flamingo left, and I was tempted, but in the end, at age 45, I am thinking I probably won't be wearing this dress for long. It seemed to me the same color as the embroidered neon floral skirt from last year, which I also have and love, but I do feel that neon is easier to wear in smaller doses. I was able to order my size in black, although that did require a very nice SA to call a couple stores to find it.

  22. I ordered the 3" chino shorts in size 00 in navy and classic green, hoping (based on another review) that I wouldn't be sized out of these shorts again this year. The fabric is nice, but the cut is frumpy on my tiny frame. For reference, I am 5' 5" my waist is 23" and my hips are about 33.5" and a 00P No. 2 pencil skirt is usually just a smidge large on me. Also, the green ran larger than the navy. When I put them on top of each other, the waistband of the green was .25" bigger (measured flat) and about .5" longer than the navy. Hope that this helps someone.
