Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I just got an email from my local store with a special event for cardholders tomorrow evening. It's signed by a VPS, though not my own VPS. The email title is "Reap Your Rewards! RSVP FOR 20% OFF YOUR PURCHASE!!!"

The email is specific to my store, but it looks like it's probably a template from corporate.

  2. Can anyone comment on tory burch quality? I am looking at a few items for fall and was wondering if they are worth the price. Thanks!

    1. I've commented about this on here before, but I was really disappointed with the quality of TB jewelry and don't think that it is worth the price. I have no experience with TB clothing or shoes, though.

    2. I purchase a lot of Tory burch clothing, I have a few handbags and probably around 60 pairs of her shoes, heels & boots. I've never had a problem with anything, however I take good care of my wardrobe. I've never had a problem with j crew quality either! I think it really comes down to how people care for clothing. The dryer is the devil and should not be used much- most people don't understand this. The only things I dry are undergarments, socks, some lounge wear and a few plain tees- everything else is washed and then hung. Heat from the dryer destroys fabric and color. If you want things to last and stay true to color- do not dry clothing. Fibers shrink overtime, pill clothes and dull colors. Also wear and tear matters. If you are going to throw clothes in a dryer, regardless of the brand, I would not buy expensive clothing unless it doesn't matter to you. I also do chemical-free environmentally friendly dry-cleaning. I don't understand the comments on this blog about washing things in tears. I don't consider taking care of my clothing the proper way difficult. Stay out of the dryer and your clothes will look great. At the end of each season I take my shoes to my shoe guy, where they are cleaned and treated so they can be stored in perfect condition and ready to wear. With that said, I've loved all my purchases from Tory burch and would highly recommend. I also love the fit and tailoring of her clothing.

    3. Thanks!
Katie, how is the sizing compared to j crew? I also take care of my clothing very well, but want to get what I paid for :) and have it look worth the money I paid. I rather buy a few items I love that may cost more than a closet full of items I bought because it was a good price!

    4. Mini-I think Tory burch runs slightly smaller in some things than j crew, but I'd try your traditional size first! I can relate to you- I also like fewer more expensive, well made pieces than a closet full of cheaper clothing. But that's why I take such care of my clothing- so pieces I love can last forever:) although I take good care of the cheap stuff too:)

  4. Hi...Canadians check out Joe Fresh. Many "Popover" style tops in pretty prints. Way cheaper then the crew. They are thin cotton but so are many of the crews. Joe Fresh's are usually under $20. This line does tend to have many crew look alikes. Carolyn from Vancouver

  9. I purchased the Chambray Oxford (22079) from Gap, on sale with 30% off ($24.49). I love it, amazing stitching detail, color, material, plus it has exposed buttons on top and then they are hidden on the bottom. Kinda like a popover look without the annoying lack of bottom buttons, so no dragging over your head. Compared to the shirts for double/triple the price at J Crew it is a steal.

  10. Hey, all. Two things tonight re: Boden.

    1. There is a "catch of the day" sale currently on this week. Day one and two have passed, but day three is still good for 25% off tops and tees (selected versions, though). Tomorrow and Friday promise to feature more "catches," so will be updating my blog when I find out what is available.

More on today's here at this post.

    2. The Winter Preview debuted on Friday. I wrote more on that here, but have yet to do a picks post. There are some pretty cute items for Winter coming out, and as per usual, if you use the code PRV3, you can receive 20% off with free ship/returns until sometime next week (although they may extend the promo like they did with the autumn items).

  11. I just returned a couple boxes full of BR and Gap merchandise. (I'm petite with no petite store near me, so online shopping it is.) I didn't like the fit or fabric on anything I ordered enough to keep, even though many of the items were just $10.

    ❤ you, JCrew!
