"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Minor vent about the wishlist. When something goes out of stock completely, it disappears from the wishlist. We used to also be able to add out-of-stock sizes to the wishlist, which is no longer possible.

For me, one of the major purposes of my wishlist is that it helps me look for popbacks, so having things automatically deleted isn't helpful.

    1. I have out of stock items on my Wishlist. In fact, there's a whole category at the top showing "out of stock" items. It also shows "on sale" items and "only a few left" items.

    2. I have some out of stock items, but some of the older ones have disappeared, even when I use the "out of stock" tab.

  2. I agree completely! So frustrating!

  3. Exactly! Completely agree. The Wishlist would be a lot more useful with that function.

By the way, the Factory website just added the Wishlist function tonight.

  4. soooo agree about nonfunctionality of wishlist! What's the point if you can't use it for wishing?

  5. I don't like that the Wishlist is doing that now either! I also wish you could move items from the Cart/Bag to the Wishlist. I think you can only move things in one direction, from the Wishlist to the Cart/Bag?

    1. Items can be moved from the Shopping Bag to your Wishlist by selecting the 'Save' option. Save is next to Edit and Remove in the Shopping Bag. :)

  6. I'm going to bring my compliant over from the review thread in hopes that J. Crew reads this section:

Please, please, please get the polyester out of the jeans. I've loved the way your jeans fit me for some time, but the new polyester makes them different - not in a good way.

    Yuk.

    1. It would probably help my case if I spelled correctly... I meant 'complaint' not compliant

  7. An item I want to purchase went on sale after the WIT20 promo ended. I griped before about not getting a bounce back card the weekend they started giving them out even through I made two store purchases. If anyone has a promo they won't be using I would appreciate it!

  8. This is more of a general gripe, but I would love to see a 30 or 40 percent off final sale promo! It feels like we haven't had one of those in a while.

  9. The back-to-back "knits" and then "shirts" promo felt weird to me, maybe because we're all used to getting a percent off our entire purchase or 40% off final sale. I can't imagine these types of promos are that effective for them.

  10. Why have the Greta gold metallic sandals been backordered for months?!! I need them for a wedding and it has been so hard to find a gold, kitten heeled sandal.

  11. Hmm, I'm not having a problem with the wishlist (yet).

I want to vent about Madewell. I ordered the Outbound Jacket in Olive Tree back in early June, and it was backordered until mid-August. I didn't mind then, because it was hot and I didn't need it right away. But now, on the website it says it is backordered until October 15th! I do not want to wait that long, as the time to wear the jacket was September/October.

  12. Seeing the exact (or very close to exact) items from last season on factory is nice becuase sold out/popular items can be bought once again. But why buy retail when you know they'll very likely show up in j. crew factory?

  13. Not exactly a vent, but boy does it seems like the sale section is full of bridal - both gowns and accessories. Many of the gowns are from many seasons ago - truly measureable in years. What's up with that? Isn't the guy that was responsible for the languishing wedding dresses now in charge of women's wear?

  14. Not exactly a vent, just wanted to share my disappointment with the rose beaded necklace. For some reason I did not care for the red version, but loved the white. I ordered it last week on sale with the WIT20 promo code, so the price was great. However, when I put it on, I couldn't believe how heavy it was. I must be the only wimp who can't take the heft of this necklace. I tried to keep it on for 30 minutes just to see if I can adjust to the weight, but in the end could not wait to take it off! Furthermore, my husband asked why I'm wearing a Hawaiian lei around the house, and that was just too much for me to justify keeping it. I have to say that the quality is excellent and worth the money I paid. Also, it came carefully packed in soft padding and bubble wrap (which I appreciated), unlike some other expensive necklaces I had ordered before.

    1. I'm sorry to hear your disappointment about the necklace. I think it is so beautiful and, after wanting it for months, I purchased it last week using the bounce back card.

My vent with this necklace is not about the weight (though I agree, very heavy!) but more about quality control. I looked at six of the white necklaces in store, and two right out of its package (bubble wrap, plastic bag, etc.) Each and every one had some dirt and markings on them.

I know I'm the only one who will notice, but it makes me feel foolish to spend so much on an item that's not in perfect shape even when brand new. (Similarly, the red version loses a paint chip here and there.)I want to wear this next summer and the summer after, but I'm not sure how it will hold up.

Alas, if only they had checked them all before shipping or coated them with a sealer or dirt repellant.

      Thanks for letting me vent!

    2. Amanda, do you know badly the red beaded rose necklace chips? Or can anyone else chime in on this? I just picked it up from my local JC, and when I opened up the package, there were a few small paint flecks in the box. Just worried that this might be a sign of things to come, and considering returning it before the 30 days are up. Is it worth keeping?

    3. Ivanka, I agree that the white beaded rose is very heavy! I don't know if it was my imagination, but I felt like it was heavier than the red. And I got the "Hawaiian lei" comment as well (!!).

    4. Ivanka -- Thanks for your feedback about the necklace. Perhaps they get dirty when stored in store and I will try ordering one online.

R -- I have only worn the red necklace twice, so someone who has owned it longer might have better insight. The second time I wore it, a very tiny paint chip came off the back of the necklace. Certainly disappointing because it leaves some white peeking through below.

It's upsetting to spend a lot of money on items that might not hold up well. However, I've decided to keep both necklaces and just enjoy them since I truly love them. If it matters, I've gotten more compliments in the two times I've worn the necklace than I've ever gotten wearing anything else!

As a final note, I read elsewhere on this blog that someone else's necklace chipped and the SA was very understanding about returning it. I will definitely hold on to my receipts.

Interested in hearing from anyone else about how these have held up. Thanks!

    5. Thanks Amanda. I like your advice about just enjoying them, and not worrying if they'll hold up, while keeping the receipts. When I purchased the necklace, I looked past a couple of others that had tiny chips in them, and when I selected the one that I did buy, the SA said to me, "you can always return it if it's defective". Lol.

    6. Wow! Funny that she said that. I wonder if they've seen a lot of necklaces come back.

I am crafty and like to paint, so I may even take it to an art store and find a matching paint tube for touch ups. Sigh. I've never had to do that for a store-bought item before.

  15. My necklace was in great shape, free of markings or dirt, but I can see how the mat finish could invite such imperfections. (If I'm not mistaken the red version had more of a glossy finish so that should not be an issue, but I am sorry to hear that it chips.) And, I don't think it foolish to expect quality in a brand new item, especially at that price level.

  17. Just before the end of the last 40% off FS sale, I noticed the metro coat w/thinsulate in black on backorder in the sale section, so I clicked through to pre-order for $195. Today I received an e-mail that my order was cancelled due to insufficient stock. I'm pretty sure the item was still hanging around on backorder in the sale section for a few more days after the 40% off sale ended. I can't help but wonder if JC could not bear to pre-sale me an item at 47% off? Did anyone else catch the coat in the sale section?
