J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including GigiOfCa (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, as did the J.Crew Collection (click here).

Surprise, surprise! The AUGUST catalog (click here to view) is available to view. Yey! Also, it is already being sent out to customers in the mail (and available in brick & mortar stores). Some JCAs have found a special code inside their catalog so keep an eye out for it!

J.Crew is also offering customers to take an additional 25% off all purchases of $150+ with promo code FALLSTYLE. Yey! This code expires August 26, 2013. Plus, J.Crew is offering free shipping (no min) for all orders placed today, August 21, 2013. This is a great offer we don't get to see too often!

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. It's the most wonderful time of the year (dishing on the big Fall rollout with the JCA's)!

    First thoughts:
    - Like the merino pocket sweater, tweed-front sweater, and collarless popover in indigo oxford.
    - A lot of stuff seems similar to what I already have, so yay for my wallet!
    - Anybody else not do camo? It's just not for me, and I guess I'm surprised how much of it there is.
    - Is the horse sweatshirt really made in the USA? Can anybody that already received it confirm?

The website is kind of messed up right now as far as bigger item pics go - it seems like every one I've clicked on to zoom in, there's a different item pictured.

As usual, prices are high. Think there will be a cardholder promo on this new rollout, or will 25% be as good as it gets? I'm interested to see what sells out and what ends up in the sale section come 2014.

    1. I'm not a fan of camo either, so I won't be getting any of that.

    2. @silver_lining - I have the navy colorway of the horse sweatshirt (item 04324). Sorry ladies, it is made in China.

    3. Yeah, I cannot wrap my head around buying any of the camo items. Just not a fan of it.

    4. That's not good that it is made in China, since on the website it says USA??? Of course, not Made in USA so not sure what they are referring to.

    5. Our family policy is that any of us can wear as much camouflage as we want - when we join the military or go deep woods hunting. It's really not appropriate for street wear in my view.

  2. I'm right there with you, silver_lining.

I can't get the zoom in photos to load--I just get the wrong photo.

I finally bought the horse sweatshirt, as I think it will sell out. For JCrew, that's a good price. Heh--maybe the price will go up in a few hours. I bought the gray. I have a navy sweatshirt--and the gray seems a bit more muted. I do like that it might have been made in the USA.

I ordered the Eaton pants in two sizes. I would *love* for these pants to work, as dress up pants have continuously eluded me at JCrew.

I do not do camo either. I know it's a neutral, and JCrew has to find another neutral to lure us in. But . . . I just can't do it. On the one hand, I could see it as a sign of respect for men and women in the military (I was so moved the other day when, on a plane, we were asked to applaud a young man in his fatigues). On the other hand . . . I live in NYC and wouldn't feel right wearing camo. Like . . . I'm clearly *not* in the military. But I often over think things.

    Houndstooth Tipi still not online!

The Tossed Hearts Boy shirt is beautiful. I saw it the other day. But (and I hear Gigi singing in my head), I don't need another heart shirt. But . . . this one is beautiful.

    1. I'm not digging the camo either. I know it's trendy but trends and I don't do well together sometimes. I'll stick to the basics which I usually wear more anyway. I think this rollout is very exciting considering that I actually like more than 1 thing this time. Perhaps this rollout bodes well for the next rollout?

I was disappointed that Houndstooth Tippi is not on line either. I even searched by item # (05093). May be just an in store only item which J. Crew does sometimes.

I really like the Horsing Around Sweatshirt, Diamond Cashmere sweater, Eaton Pants, and Merino Pocket Sweater. It's a nice sweater that has a thicker gauge and nice weight. Price is doable too! I just wished the Houndstooth sweater was on line too. May have to actually go in store and look for it.

    2. Ditto here. No camo for me. I do have the camo watch strap, some camo tori burch shoes and the J Crew calfhair camo belt from several seasons ago. That's my limit, lol. I just don't think it's me. Looks best on the younger crowd, imo.

  3. The promo isn't working for the leather items! I'm so disappointed!

  4. I love the patch pocket skirt. It's double serge wool though, something I can only wear for a matter of weeks in my climate. Same problem with the two new tweed skirts. I wouldn't buy those anyway since they contain acrylic. Might as well wear a brillo pad. The seamed colorblock dress had great promise, alas it is poly. Really nothing for me in this rollout.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. "Might as well wear a brillo bad."

Amen to that, Desert Flower! I am so with you. Enough with the acrylic already, J.Crew. I don't like much of anything in this rollout; J.Crew has been so disappointing in the last two years. Oh well, I have found some amazing deals on older items on eBay (Abstract rose kandinsky skirt for $12!) so as long as I can do that, I'm happy.

  5. Well I bit and ordered a cashmere vneck in pale pink that was on my wishlist, the patchpocket skirt and the monkstrap shoes. Will see what I keep but all worth it to try and unlike desert flower, in October I will be able to start wearing it all..

  6. Why are the prices for the Liberty shirts going up? The Betsy Ann Liberty Boy shirt is $168. Most of the Liberty perfect shirts I've bought in the past started at $150. I generally love the Liberty shirts, but $168 is a little too much for me, even with the promo.

    1. I've noticed that, too. Before that, they were $98, and I think once upon a time during the original collaboration in 2006, they might have even been $70-something. Better made back then, too. Sadness.

  7. I'm really excited about this rollout! Love the leather and camo the most :) Already made an order this morning, can't wait!

  8. Everything I like is collection. The prices on collection are so high, sad face. Love the scattered hearts dress. By wasn't it out all summer? I like the leather pieces, but I don't love them. The ts could have been much cuter.

I don't like camo. That trend was just around. Why is it back already? Surprised that there wasn't a new hacking jacket. I love those.

    1. I'm with you on the collection stuff. And I can't afford/refuse to pay those retail prices.

  9. I happen to actually LOVE this rollout! Haven't felt this excited about new arrivals for a while, I am disappointed however that the 25% promo excludes all the leather, and the collection prices are still crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Can someone remind me if the horsing around sweatshirt comes in a beige colorway also? Or maybe I'm just dreaming but I though it came in 3 colors other then navy and gray?

Oh and I'm excited a lot more pieces are offered up to size 14 and 16, still not sure why a lot of the skirts and capris is only up to size 12 though

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yeah, A big hell to the no regarding camo. I mean, I put it on my 2 1/2 year old son, but for moi....eh, no. I'll stick to animal prints, thank you very much.

The push for leather pants is making me chuckle, too. I always think of Ross Geller when I see leather pants. Hee.

Something tells me that horse sweatshirt will sell out. It is so not me, but it's a good price point, and it seems like a lot of JCAs are feeling it.

I love a lot of the skirts from the last rollout. I was a bit meh on the latest Style Guide. I thought last month was cuter. I am way into color for fall, and the Crew is really pushing gray, black and white: BORING.

Although, I will be trying the gray Toothpicks I guess. Saying a Hail Mary that they will fit me!

Loving the tweed front merino sweater, the crazy jeweled headbands, and the silk boy shirt in tossed hearts.

  12. There's lots I love but prices too high so I settled for two items.
Patch Pocket pencil skirt - got 0p and 00p in navy. Hopefully, one will fit.
Camo Chinos - these look like they might be a higher rise than the city fit. Though, at 5'1" they may still be too long for me.
Is it me or are there a lot more collection items in this rollout?

  13. I like some of the pieces with leather but I worry about cleaning them. I have a sleeveless leather top that I had cleaned a few months ago and it cost a ton. Leather cleaning is super expensive. That's what has stopped me from buying other leather pieces or garments with leather accents. Does anyone have ideas or suggestions to avoid that high professional leather clean cost?

  16. Just got the new catalog last night, and BO-RING. None of the colors or cuts spoke to me.

There is exactly one item that piqued my interest - the merino v-neck sweater in spinach - but it will probably be too big for me.

I wonder if the camo is inspired by Atlantic-Pacific, the blogger who wears a lot of J.Crew (she always looks amazing).

Have a $75 GC that I need to use

  17. I have rewards and gift cards burning a hole in my wallet so I ordered some basics: No. 2 wool pencil in black and heather acorn (gained a little weight and need to go up a size, sadly, but the heather acorn will be a new colorway for me), and the Cashmere Textured Stitch Sweater. I have such a weakness for gorgeous chunky sweaters. I couldn't pick a color (and it's so hard to tell the true color from the product shots) so I'm trying out the indigo, gray, and caramel, and I'll return two of them.

I wish there had been a 30% off for card members, though.

  18. This is a great roll-out for me! I have no idea what to get. Also, boo to you J.Crew for not letting leather pieces be a part of the sale!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sad about the leather pieces not being included in the sale, but overall I really like this rollout and am just trying to decide what to order. I haven't been this excite about a rollout since last fall, I guess.

  20. I'm kind of on the market for another excursion vest and I'm disappointed at the new color selection. Neon flamingo?

    As for the camo, I don't mind it, however I think if you're out to get a camo vest, a person would probably be better off heading to Bass Pro Shop or Cabelas for a better deal! ;o}

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. :snorts:! I said the same thing to my Husband--if I wanted anything camo (which I don't) I could go to Bass Pro and get it for far less!
I just can't do the camo. With my Dad having served in both Vietnam and Iraq, I just think some patterns should be off limits for fashion statements.

      Delete
    2. egyptomaniac, I think about that too. This is why I haven't owned anything camo until very recently. Hunters wear it too, so logically I don't think it's necessarily disrespectful, but I feel funny about wearing camo similar to what a soldier would wear. I bought a camo belt, but it doesn't bother me like the jackets do for some reason. We'll see if I keep the hat I ordered. I'm still thinking on the whole camo thing and I don't know if I'll feel comfortable wearing it. Anyway thank you to your Dad for his service :)

      Delete
    3. I've never been a fan of camo (even for my boys), but really liked the vest and tee in person. To me, the cut, quilting and gold accents feminized the vest (much more than anything I would think might be found from an outdoor/sportsman retailer).
I think 'hunter' more than soldier when coming across camo, personally, with many branches of the service wearing different fabrics, and desert camo being what our army soldiers have worn most recently. Just my two cents :)

      Delete
    4. I feel the same as Wendy re: the camo issue. When I see the woodland camo pattern, I think hunter/outdoorsman. The ACU's that my soldier wears are in an entirely different digi-cam pattern (that nobody has ever liked, based on what I've heard), so I don't associate the woodland pattern that's currently trending with the military.

      Delete
    5. No go on the camo for me either. I suspect camo is ironic for those who live in the big city, but it means something totally different for those of us in more rural environments.

  21. The new A-Line Collection Skirt: It was an attractive, but corporate-looking skirt.

I ordered in Navy - the color was a true navy and is not so dark it looks black.

Is a light wool-silk, not too heavy. Ok to wear in milder weather for those concerned about that.

The waist sits higher than I'm used to, so would size up both to get the extra length and let the waist sit a little lower.

The gentle A line is nice, but the skirt had a slight 'pooch' in the front (?). (this was the deal breaker for me)

  22. This rollout is my jam. I can't wait until most of it goes on sale in a few weeks ;-)

The Horsing Around Sweatshirt shipped yesterday and I'm so excited! Neutrals are where I live most of the time so I'm very glad to see so many this fall (although I totally get why lots of JCA's are bummed since J.Crew does color so well). I love the Silk Tossed Hearts Blouse, and I also like all the leather accents even though I wouldn't consider buying any of those pieces until way later in the year. I do like most of the camo pieces in that woodland-retro-neutral sort of way. Overall I see lots to love!

  24. I've got the Camo vest and the hounds tooth Tippi on hold at my B&M. I may feel like Elmer Fudd stalking a wascally wabbit in the camo vest and may pass. Excited to see the elusive hounds tooth Tippi. Bought the horsey sweatshirt. My first critter top! And the fabu two tone zip cardigan. Other than that I don't see alot I'll be buying. I don't do leather clothing. The dresses do look longer...unless the models are short??? Who knows!

  25. And I'm disappointed in the jewelry. I was hoping to see something besides the Lulu Frost stuff. Don't like any of the mixed media pieces or the huge garish rhinestone things. Ugh.

  26. The Bridget dress in cranberry is gorgeous (how perfect would that be for holiday parties?) but they had to add pockets to it! Ugh!!!

    ReplyDelete

    1. I bought that dress and returned it - the cranberry was much more muted than it looked online. Kind of a dull brick with brown undertones if that makes any sense. I was looking for a rich oxblood/maroon. Oh well!

  27. I'm really liking the restrained styling in the new rollout and style guide. The hair and makeup look great, and they've almost done away with the stupid huge Jenna glasses. I can't remember the last time a style guide showed something I would actually wear (the ankle toothpick jeans with oxfords, stripe top, wool blazer, and scarf). Some might say it's uninspired, but I like to shop for things I'll actually wear!

I'm just not digging the color palettes with this rollout though. I do love all the grays and navys, but for things I'd want to buy brights in like coats and sweaters, I'm not drawn to any of the colors.

All in all, I added some things to my wishlist to monitor prices, but nothing I have to have at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I called my store and had them set aside a Horsing Around Sweatshirt in Navy and the Necklace Tee in Burgundy I am going to go get them after work and hopefully something else. I want to see the Merino Tippi in Houndstooth that isn't online and some other new items also check out the sale section. Surprisingly other than the two things I am defiantly purchasing I don't feel like I MUST own anything else from this rollout.

  29. I really like the collection tile sweaters but they're way out of my price range.

I wish I could wear J.Crew shoes -- my fat little square feet just don't get along with them -- but those Nike Air Pegasuses (Pegasii, lol?) are pretty tempting.

  30. I got the camo tee in grey, the grey pixies with the leather down the side (I lived in the black pixies with the leather on the inside calves last year, so grey is a good choice for me), and the leather pocket merino sweater.

I'm so on the fence about the camo vest. I got it earlier this week, and I feel like I love 1/2 the time, and feel like a dork in it the other 1/2. So conflicted!

  31. I am loving the fabrics, textures, and colors!

*I bought the calf hair Martinas. Love them. I got the same size as my other Martinas which is to say sized up from my non J Crew size

*i ordered the Tartine satchel in pebbled leather in black last night before 30% promo ended. I saw it in the store and it is a beauty

*Other new items I'm liking; tossed heart shirt (I'm still jonesing over the b&w heartthrob I missed out on), tippi with jewel collar in grey and white, stretch panel dress although it could be a total hit or miss on me, I also want to try the Andies in one of the darker colors

  33. I ordered the Marlie purse, I will report back when it arrives. Has anyone seen it in person? It looks like there is a magnetic closure under the flap and that the two buckles are just for decoration. Hopefully!

  34. I'm loving the collarless popover in indigo oxford, the minnie pants in cabernet (I recently bought the factory double-serge pencil skirt in cabernet and looove the color!), the half-placket dress in tossed hearts, and the nightshirt in stripe. Would have bit on the horsing around sweatshirt... if it was a merino sweater, and not a sweatshirt!

    1. While I am 4 months postpartum (but am back to my pre-pregnancy body, relatively speaking), is it terrible that I'm still debating the maternity minnie pants in pinot noir instead of the regular cabernet minnie, if just to get more breathing room in the waist? It doesn't look as though it has the giveaway maternity stomach panels.

      Delete
    2. JennC -- I am wearing my maternity Minnies in pinot noir right now (at 5 months pregnant), and they don't have the traditional stomach panel, but they do have an elastic triangle panel on either side to accommodate the bump. I think you are right about the magnetic flap closure and the buckles being for show. 36. Just got back from the B&M so I thought I'd post some quick reviews. I think that sizing is kind of all over the place with this rollout so if you can make it to a B&M, I'd recommend it - especially if you're thinking of layering.

Tweed-front merino sweater (03969) - My store didn't have my usual S, so I tried an M. It was a total square. I think that a S would be better, but it might still be boxy.

Merino pocket tunic (03444) - I sized down to an XS on Rose's recommendation, but if I wanted to do any layering, I'd stick with my usual S. Some of the sweaters in my B&M had little "pulls" in that Milano stitch knit already. Would purchase online so I don't get a shopworn one.

Drapey raglan sweatshirt (04811) - absolutely no 'drape' in a S. If I purchased, I'd size up to an M.

Paneled stretch dress in black (04085) and colorblock (03345) - I tried the black in my usual 4 and it was very tight at the top but fit everywhere else. Tried a 6 in the colorblock and it was big all over. I may order a 4 in the colorblock - that was a surprise love for me. Not too short, and no exposed zips! Hooray!

Some stuff didn't quite live up to the online pics: the two-tone zip cardigan was a little sloppy with the flannel panel sewn on and had lots of loose threads where the flannel met the merino (would probably fray more over time). I also saw the horsing around sweatshirt but the horses looked almost tan on the navy one, not white like they looked online. Definitely get to a store if you can!

  37. I added a few things to the wishlist, but there's nothing I need right now. I like the leather sleeved top, but I'm certainly not buying it with leather excluded from the promo. I like the zipper minnies and may eventually pull the trigger on those. They are basic pants that I will wear all fall and winter. I also like the tipped pencil skirt. Oddly enough, that is showing as low stock in my size. I wonder if they're going to release more or if its really selling that well.

Count me in as loving the Pegasus. They are my go to running shoe (in the new version, which I think is up to 29 or 30) and I like the nod to the old-school Nike / Bill Bowerman / Oregon track team.

  38. I like the horse sweatshirt as well but waffling between gray and navy...I better hurry since they have special promo only today. Actually, I'm not digging the camo but I really like the camo tee. So, I purchased it. I've had in my wishlist the fluted black skirt and darby spiked shoes for the past month and finally purchase today with the promotion.

  39. I like this rollout, some of the jewelry is much more classic and the colors I agree are more muted. But after season after season of neon this, and neon that it is a refreshing break. Plus all the neon in our closets can be mixed with these more neutral colors. I am sorry, I don't get camo at all. At my age, I have seen this trend go around many, many times and have never understood it. But for those that it is their first time or others that just love it, enjoy!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I ordered a few things but I'm conflicted. I look forward to vibrant jewel tones and tweedy textures in the fall, and the rollout is so ... neutral. I tried the camo vest and felt ridiculous in it so back it went.

I love the unique pieces from J. Crew but ... 1) collection pieces are too $$$, and 2) I feel like some things this season (herringbone excursion vest, horse sweatshirt, camo) are going to be everywhere and on everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  41. How are the excursion vests fitting this year? Are they TTS or should we size down?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Definitely size down. I normally wear a medium in the most items and went to the store tonight and bought the saddle version in a size small. I am not a small girl on top either! The Factory version I have is a medium to give you an idea of sizing difference. I love the navy stripe version too, and will try to pick it up later! Good luck!

  42. In love with the Nike sneakers, but sad they only go up to size 10 and are excluded from the promo. Found the exact light gray pair on Zappos - they go up to size 12 in women's AND have free shipping and returns. :)

    2. Thanks for the tip! Zappos is much easier to deal with when returning items than J.Crew.

    3. @Catherine - Thanks for the heads up about Zappos carrying the same Nike Pegasus 83'. Love at first sight when I saw it on J.Crew's style Guide, especially how it was paired. I can't believe Zappos carries it.

@FriendlyFemme - Yes, Zappos are much easier to deal with as far as shipping/returning. :)

      So happy!

    4. @JCrewJD @FreindlyFemme @JSR No problem! I just ordered them from Zappos. Couldn't help myself. :) Didn't see the darker gray color on Zappos but they did have a fun orange color instead. If J. Crew doesn't have an exclusive with that style, I'm sure you could find the dark gray somewhere else.

    5. Thank god you did, because the Nike's are now sold out online in both colors.

    6. FriendlyFemme, Wow, that is weird! It seemed like there were plenty a few hours ago. It's hard to imagine there was a run on 83 Nikes lol. I'd say maybe J. Crew pulled them from the site, but there's no point because they are excluded from the promotion anyway.

  44. Oh la la...there's so much to love from this roll-out. (Some) of my favorites:

-Tweed Front Merino Sweater in graphite
-Collection cashmere diamond sweater in cabarnet coast spearmint
    -Pintucked popover
-Ruffled popover in luau indigo floral
    -Quilted Jacket
-Double Cloth Moto Jacket in beige stone
-Strappy Mirror Metallic Pump in silver and metallic cinnamon (reminds me of Burberry's spring collection, when it showed metallic in other colors not just silver or gold. The cinnamon is a stunner!
-Biella Calf Hair Tassel Loafer in hazelnut leopard
    -Nike Air Pegasus 83' Sneakers
-WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie large two-way tote (i like...but its pricey)

I love most of the looks from 'Looks We Love'. Especially the outfit on 'Color' the beige Double Cloth Moto jacket is gorgeous. I couldn't pull the outfit off with the yellow collection pants, but I just love the way it it is paired.

  45. I am bummed that J.Crew didn't make a Wool Serge No.2 Pencil skirt in a spotted cheetah print. I missed out on buying it a few fall seasons ago. And now that they have it, it costs around a grand! Oy! I'm hoping that they'll make it this season.

  46. Regarding the Houndstooth Tippi--it comes in navy and a dark green.

Regarding the Collection Cashmere Diamond Sweater--I tried this on Monday. It runs large. It is also two-ply, sort of the way that fair isle barn sweater was last year. All of this conspires to make the sweater a tricky fit for me, at least.

Size XXS--a size I never take--fit me best, but was too short. Size XS was too baggy and did nothing for my shape. Since the sweater is double the thickness, it doesn't show off the body the way that other Collection pieces do.

I know why the sweater is two ply--it's fair isle, and if they hadn't double faced it, it would be too easy for the sweater to snag (last year's Collection Fair Isle that came in green or magenta, for example, snagged easily). But the thickness makes the shape a bit odd, at least for me.

I will try it on again when I'm wearing a button down and a proper pair of jeans. But this is my two cents as of now.

  47. I picked up two Excursion vests: camo and stripe. I am not sure if I will keep the camo since I bought a dark green one from the Factory store.....

  52. I drooled over the navy collection double-faced wool dress with the navy monk strap shoes. But it's so short! I could only wear that as a tunic. If I wore it as a dress I could never sit down or bend over without exposing too much.

  57. Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site but thought I'd add my reviews. I visited a B&M store today and also purchased some stuff online:

    Purchased:
    1) Scalloped Cutout Silk Top in octagonal top - I really liked this top. The only drawback for me was the puffy sleeves. I'm bigger on the top (size 12) so puffy sleeves don't always work for me. Still, I bought the top and will at least wear it underneath business suits for work.

    2) Merino Colorblock Stripe Sweater - Although I purchased this, I'm still undecided on it. It's definitely a loose fit and I have lots of extra material in the tummy area and in the back of the top. I bought it to wear with skinny/straight jeans. I'm sure a lot of people could size down in this if they wanted to. I should have tried a size down but wasn't getting much help from the sales associates.

    3) Stripe Necklace Tee - I bought this in burgundy and love it! I think I'll get a lot of use out of it and with the discount the price is decent. I'm pretty casual and I think I can wear this when I want to feel stylish but not look like I'm trying too hard.

    4) Crystal Floral Garland Bracelet - I like that this is a classic bracelet that I can wear for years. Quality feels good. It's got a nice sparkle to it. It potentially looks like wedding jewellery, but I still like it and think its a keeper.

    Did Not Buy:
    5) Tweed Front Merino Sweater - this was terrible! It has a very boxy cut with no shape whatsoever. I didn't think I'd be able to size down in the arms but definitely could have used a smaller size everywhere else.

    6) Two Tone Zip cardigan - looked very cheap

The sales associates in the store I went to (Markville Mall) were trying on the new arrivals and giving each other advice on outfits. While I understand why they would need to know how the new arrivals fit, I was pretty much ignored the whole time I was there and wasn't offered any assistance. This is why I end up buying most of my clothing online now. I'd much rather deal with customer service than the sales associates.

    1. Welcome, Jane. Thanks so much for the reviews. What color did you get in the Merino colorblock? I'm debating between the 'breeze, graphite, ivory' and the 'coral, oak, ivory'.

      Delete
    2. Thanks maryeb! I bought the breeze, graphite, ivory one and I love the color combinations. I actually didn't see the coral, oak, ivory one in the store. I thought the graphite combination color was much nicer in person then online. Let me know what you think of the sweater.

      Delete
    3. Hi, thanks for the reviews! I was undecided on the merino colorblock stripe sweater too. I tried the one in the breeze/graphite/ivory color. Couldn't decide if I liked that the back was an entirely different color. It didn't hang on me very well either. But I still kinda like it.

  61. Purchased the Houndstooth tippi in the Navy and grey color way. Very nice sweater. Same fit as the regular tippi. One interesting thing about this sweater is that the shoulder area has a larger houndstooth pattern. There's a dark hunter green color, but the navy/grey is more neutral and versatile.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I love both versions! I bought the hunter green version. I have a lot of navy sweaters in my wardrobe already. I agree that the sizing is pretty consistent with the other Tippi sweaters. Very cute sweater! Of course, its 90+ degrees in LA today, and I won't be able to wear it for two months but glad to have it ready and waiting for fall when it FINALLY arrives. :)

      Delete
    2. I'm with you JCREWGAL...have it ready when Fall makes its debut which I think will be a while, sadly. What are your thoughts of the larger shoulder prints? It was weird when I first tried it on, but it gradually grew on me. I saw it styled on the mannequin with a statement necklace paired with a navy bottom....I think it was the Minnies...anyway, it looked great.

I feel as if I'm committing some terrible heresy typing that!
I love the patterned sweaters, blazers, peacoat and a couple of tops, but am not so enamoured of anything else.

If anyone sees the silk keyhole top (the sleeveless one) in a B&M I would love to hear your thoughts on size/quality/fit etc.
Ditto the peacoat. Does it run tts?

    1. You're not the only one. I can't get into the horse sweatshirt either! Same with the excursion vests. But its nice to see so many people excited about new items.

    2. Don't worry Ruth, now there are two of us. We'll burn in the stakes together. I expect the horse to show up in Factory next year like the hen and heart sweaters. Went to the store today and actually liked the grey tippi tweed front, but I sized down. It looks and fits like the lady lace popover which I love. Very disappointed with the houndstooth tippi. The green was gorgeous but the shoulder accents were stiff and made me look like a quarterback. Without the shoulder accents it would have been a love.

      Delete
    3. I'm not a big fan of the horse sweatshirt either, but I'm like that with all of the clothes with large critters on them. It is actually nice in person, just not my cup of tea. The leather is nice from afar but it's not me either. I like the excursion vests, but don't need another.

      Delete
    4. I don't like the camo, leather, vests , the new jewels or horse sweatshirts.
I do like the looks of the eaton pants...if they are mid rise, the monk strap shoes and the merino pocket sweater.
But I remember mid/late fall of last year there were super sale promos on pretty much everything.
I purchased a lot and have things I still have not worn...no early bird buying for me.

      Delete
    5. I think I'd probably like the horses more if I saw them in real life.... It's often the way with J Crew!
Plus, it's almost Spring here, which is probably having an effect on my feelings for many items.
The leather pieces are probably lovely, but I know from experience how expensive it is to clean leather, so practicality is stopping me from allowing myself to like them!!

  68. I really like the Stripe necklace tee! Just wondering how this runs? I haven't bought many J.Crew tees lately so I'm not sure what to compare the fit to but I wear xxs in Tippis. Just wondering if the xxs in the knit will be too tight. Any help would be appreciated!

  69. Slightly OT, but I've noticed people calling the colors of different items 'colorways.' Where does that come from? Did I miss something?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think it comes from the fashion industry. I first heard it when bloggers were using the term to talk about Hermes scarves.

Anyone want to add to this?

      Delete
    2. It refers to the different variations of colors being offered. I worked in the industry and the term has been used for a long time.

  70. I just don't understand the jewelry. I feel like a J.Crew traitor typing that. It looks heavy and bulky and in some instances, cheap.

    (Ducking and running for cover.)

I also don't get the camo---I come from a family of hunters and military folks. WRT to the former it reminds me of coming home to find a deer strung up on the back porch.

In any case I am a sucker for the hen print and purchased the cardigan at the outlet, so we all have our quirks. To each her own!

    1. I have been waiting with anticipation for JC to change the style of jewelry they've been producing the last few years or at least offer more variety (and not just variation on the same old tired theme). Looking at the new arrivals, it looks like I will be waiting for a long time to come. I still own and love several pieces from the not-so-distant past when their jewelry was beautiful and tasteful, of high quality, and always a little different/innovative. It was the opposite of gaudy. Now I can't even look at the offering, much less the exorbitant prices for *costume* jewelry.

      Delete
    2. I'll be happy to see this current jewelry trend move on. I have many lovely pieces of J. Crew jewelry, but haven't liked anything since the Lulu Frost onset. Really hate the mixed media pieces, the cheap rhinestones pieces, neon (ugh...really sick of neon). I'm hunting ebay now for older pieces to buy.

  71. I tried on a few items in the store tonight. Really was disappointed by the Tweed Front Merino sweater. It was a horrible boxy shape, and the pockets are attached to the sweater in the WORST way possible with a thread that will catch on everything! The print is lovely, but what a terrible execution of a sweater.

I bought the horse sweatshirt, houndstooth Tippi in hunter green, and the excursion vest
in Saddle. I also picked up a pair of the camp socks in the red color. Its silly how much I love these socks! There are a couple of collection pieces I would LOVE to own, but out of my budget. I was also surprised to find that my store carried a copy of Linda McCartney's coffee table photography book. I might pick it up for my husband as an early gift since he is a huge Beatles fan. Nice touch to the store!

  72. Ladies, don't feel like you have to qualify your opinions if you're not liking what seems to be popular (or vice versa) among JCA's. If we all liked the same things, JC would be sold out of some items and others would be in FS purgatory forever! (Oh wait, sometimes they are...) I think our varied opinions are part of what makes this community fun.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I agree with you, silver_lining.

In the case of Camo--I can't help think but it has to do with my age. I do now buy things thinking I want to keep them for twenty years (haha). And I've seen Camo come and go and it just isn't me.

On the other hand, I resisted animal prints (as in cheetah spots, not a horse sweatshirt) for a long, long, long time. And now I really do like them as a neutral. I don't have a lot, but I do see how they are classic. I couldn't get into that snake skirt that JCrew put out last year. But good animal print does seem to stand the test of time.

    Anyway . . .

Oh! The Schoolboys are on promo today. As are the navy Minnies.

  86. Just got back from my fave J. Crew store in Marlton, NJ. So, the Andie chinos and the Toothpicks jeans were major fails on me. The SAs were telling me that some people LOVE the wide waist band on the Andies while others do not. So, I guess the waistband is a point of controversy. I loved the back of the Andies and the length is cute. The whole pocket situation in the front was not my fave. The SA said she thought they looked cute, but I didn't feel comfy.

The Toothpicks NEVER work on me. I thought I'd give a couple of pairs a try, because most of the denim/cords are toothpicks.

Onto good news: I picked up the boy shirt in polka-dot (an oldie, but goodie and my size is always sold out online), the tweed-front sweater in black (SO CUTE! The color in the tweed is very vibrant IRL. It's a little boxy, but with a fitted tank underneath and tight cropped jeans or a skirt, it will look really fab.) I also picked up the polka dot denim mini for like $35 bucks. So cute, and will work in early fall, plus now).

The merino tippie with embroidered shoulders was totally marked down! Plus, with the 25 percent off promo, you can get that for a good price.

Jackies were $49.50. I wish they had red, because I so want that color.

The SAs said the style session tonight is going to be all about the new cuts of pants and jeans and showing how they fit.

  87. Just stopped into my local B&M to try the hounds tooth Tippi. I like the pattern and the inset shoulder detail, but I passed on it. The navy/gray combo was just boring and the turqouisy green/olive combo was really rich looking but I could only see me wearing it with jeans. Passed on the Camo excursion vest...all I could think about was hunting (ugh), passing on the horsey sweatshirt too. Too boxy, baggy and too "young" for me. BUT....I tried on the black Merino Pocket sweather with the leather patch pockets and LOVE it! I think it's really chic and looks like something that should be in Collection. The SA told me he sold 6 of them yesterday and they are on their way to sell out. So don't wait! It's exempt from the 25% promo, but my SA gave me a 20% card to use on it. I'm ordering the grey with brown pockets to see if I like it as well.

      Delete
    3. Well just like always the stores are doing their own thing as far as sales goes. But if you try to buy the leather pocket sweater online, you will get the "no go" message. I'm happy my SA gave me 20%, since he told me the leather pocket one is exempt from the 25% off. The details of the 25% off sale does say that leather clothing (sans purses and shoes) are not included in the sale. So you got a good deal!

  88. I bought the merino leather pocket sweater in both colors and a solid tunic too-absolutely love this sweater for cozy casual looks. DO NOT size down! Take your true size if you want it to fit properly. This sweater is suppose to be slightly loose with an easy cut and dropped shoulders. I see a lot of comments on here about sizing down and the sweater fits too snug. The leather pockets should not be fitted across your hips- look at the model. The sweater should hang a bit in the front. The sleeves should not be snug or fitted either! Also if you want to layer under it- this should definitely not be fitted at all! You lose the intended silhouette the designers created when you size down.

    1. I have tried this sweater on too and agree not to size down. I would go with my regular size if I were going to buy it.

      Delete
    2. I agree; don't size down or the style/design will not look right. The designers intended for this sweater to be loose, so if you size down then the whole style will be off. I tried it on and even the SA said that sizing will only make everything look too tight.

Neither are on promo, but I think the leather pocket sweater might sell out fast and didn't want to wait for sale. As for fit...I agree. It's a tunic that is styled to hang away from the body...it's not suppose to cling. It's made from thick wool so it keeps it's shape and hangs nicely. thinking of getting a solid one too!

    5. I agree. I guess I could have sized down, but it wouldn't have looked right on me. My regular size was the right size, there was no question when I tried it on.

    6. I was advising to size down, but maybe the size small (my normal) I tried in store was off, b/c it was huge. I have one of each size coming to me so will revise my review if it turns out I didn't need to size down.

    7. FYI, the leather items were being included in the promo in store last night. I repurchased the pocket sweater and also got the tuxedo stripe pixies because I couldn't pass them up on the promo. If you can get to the store, do it!

  89. Is it just me or does anyone else not know what their true J. Crew size is? I feel like I'm all over the place when I try stuff on.

I really wish my store carried some of the salon collection minis. I am loving like all of them.

The button down shirt with the hearts is so cute, but it does not scream toddler friendly to me, so I refrained.

There was not a lot of camo in my store.

  90. I just rec'd order from the shirt promo yesterday.I ordered the white ruffle rhinestone top as a ride along. I like it better than the tilda since it does not widen towards the bottom. I also like the fabric better as there is no stretch and it seems like it wont wrinkle as much.

Also ordered the beaded chambray and love it. I may try sizing down since the sleeves are long but I am not sure it that will cause the chest to pull.

The material in the embroidered polka dot was a surprise for me. It is cotton but quite light and airy - very comfy! It is TTS.

  91. If anyone is in the Lynchburg area, definitely stop by the expanded Clearance center. I stopped by there today and there are so many things there that are on the website now! Work dresses for $30, silk blouses for $30, Cashmere sweaters for $65. Minnies for $40 and Cafe Capris for $20! Tons of bags, shoes, and formal dresses (in all sizes and all colors) as well (if you're looking for bridesmaid dresses or wedding dresses, run there now!). I bought two no. 2 Pencil skirts for $30 each in white and in academic green, and I also got a navy cashmere cardi for $65 and w/ my student discount on top of it, I got all three items for $110! I'm thinking about stopping by again for the short sleeve cashmere tops which were only $40 b/f any discount. If anyone is in the are, def stop by they are fully stocked!
