J.Crew Summer Sale {it's back!}

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Fabulous Florida Mommy (in this post) who let us know about an update to JCrew.com.

Well it is officially Summer, as J.Crew changed their Spring Sale to Summer Sale online (click here). (No Final Sale either... yey!) They also updated the section early this morning, with what looked like several new price reductions.

Did you check out the Summer Sale section today? Were you able to snag any amazing deals? If so, please share! :)

  1. I was excited that the Lucille dress in eyelet is now down to $119.99. I just got it in the mail yesterday and it's a lovely basic dress (and machine washable!).

    1. I haven't been but might go this time. Here's a "review" from the Fall one that gives a good idea of what it's like: Racked NY

    2. Hi Addy, I went to the very first sample sale they had a few years back and I found it to be awful. I know other JCAs were able to score some great shoes and accessories but those sections were totally depleted by the time I got there after work, and much of the clothing was disorganized, missing size tags and had SAMPLE written in indelible marker right on the garments. I also saw items which had been cut, presumably to better fit the models with pinning, and yet everything was still priced rather high considering what you can pay for the same items when they're on sale with a promotional discount.

My recommendation would be that, if you're looking for shoes and accessories, get there early! They replenish items throughout the day I'm told (at least at the Clothingline sales), but I believe the shoes and accessories go very quickly. The clothes themselves are pretty hit-or-miss, and I'm not sure if 260 will let customers try items on but there was no trying on allowed at the Clothingline sale, and I've been to other sample sales there where I was allowed to try on so it seems to have been J.Crew's rule, not Clothingline's.

In spite of everything I just said, I may check it out if time permits, but I'm keeping my expectations low.

Hope this helps a little bit!

    3. Thanks for the advice ladies! The pricing seems kind of high based in the racked review. I am just seeing if I should cross my fingers and wait until there in a warehouse sale in VA or go to this one. I may just have to do both and compare. If the sample sale in NYC isn't too great, I won't be mad. I can always find something else to do in NYC ;o)

  3. geez....I just ordered the anchor blouse at $98.00 two days ago and now it's $79.99. ARG! But happy to see the pop art pencil skirt go on sale which I ordered this morning.

    1. The same thing happened to me; I just got a price adjustment from CS. Happens so often with J.Crew. It's a hassle, but least we get $18 back!

    2. Ugh I did an online chat with customer service and they refused to do a price adjustment. I haven't even received the blouse yet in the mail! The rep told me that price adjustments are only for non-sale items. BS. JC does price adjustments for me all the time. I just reordered the blouse at the current price and will return the other one once I get it. What a hassle!

    3. Sabrina - I was able to do it with online chat. That CS rep should have done it. It's really annoying how inconsistent their service can be.

Incidentally, my online cs was kind of rude about it, saying that this was a one time courtesy and it is not eligible for future markdowns. Made me wonder if an extra 30% is coming this weekend. If there is, I guess I will just return and reorder with the extra discount.

  6. In response to Addy O. I went to the Winter sample sale last year and I thought it was totally worth it. I found a pair of 400.00 J.Crew boots for 125.00. They have a great cashmere, jewelry and outerwear section, just make sure you get there super early and be prepared to do some digging.

  7. @Angie'Closet:
Thanks for answering my question. I actually don't mind digging for that won't be a problem.I was thinking of going on the last day perhaps in the afternoon, so I can avoid the rush and bug crowds. Do you think that is a good idea?

  13. Addy O, I'm told that they continue to replenish daily, but if you can, go the first day. You may miss something great. I believe the sample sale I went to began at 10:00. I got there at 9:00 and I was the 20th person on line. By 10:00, the line had wrapped around the entire city block and it was raining.

  15. Was happy to see the McAlister wedges on sale as I wanted them last fall - and I am a great fan of buying out-of-season. But apparently they are not shipping until OCTOBER...? Not sure I want to buy something on sale now and have to wait 4 months for it (and who knows what will happen to the price inbetween?)

    1. Can anyone tell me how the MacAlister fits!? I am a size 9.5 and they recommend half sizes go up.

      Thanks

  16. Was really excited to see the Lena wedges on sale. My size was sold out in burnt sienna, but luckily they had them in my local store and they honored the online price :) They came up as 25% off anyway, which annoyed me because I had asked on a previous visit if they were part of the 25% off sandal promo going on and the SA said no (so anyone wondering, wedges ARE included in the promo!). But it's ok because I ended up getting them for even less.

Oh and a sizing note, I say size down a full size. I am normally a size 9, and these shoes fit me perfectly in a size 8. I have wide feet too. Perfect fit, soft leather, extremely comfortable. It's rare I find shoes that fit me this well, so although I would have preferred an additional % off I bit the bullet because mine were the last pair in my store (display pair).

  17. I just saw your blog on CNBC "J Crew & the man who dressed America" Very Cool!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hi, I tried the Lena wedges and returned them. I took my usual JC shoe size. I did not like that the top strap over the foot was so short. I could barely get it buckled. Maybe it was a fluke pair.
Also, I tried the Cecelia buckle heels and they are made in China. The site description says "Import". They were so cheaply made I couldn't believe I bought them at JCrew. The soles were man-made, and actually wavy in that the pieces were not glued together correctly. I would not pay more than 50 bucks for these shoes. My 2 cents!

  19. Popped in tonight to make some returns, and there were some new markdowns. Tessa in blue was $55, I think; Tessa in wildcat was $59. Wildcat linen capris were $45 or $59; Tippi in hearts was $40; some colors in cotton pencil were $35 (the floral print was $45, but mine rang up $50 and I didn't realize it until I got home--grr). The papaya attache dress was $50, maritime anchor was $40. Several other dresses I didn't get prices on, but were marked down (Lucille in eyelet, etc). Hope this helps someone :)

  20. Sorry--wildcat pants should have said $45 or $49

  22. Can anyone tell me if it is a good time to hit the Crewlet on Friday? Not sure of sales and mine is about 45mins away.

    1. MaryMoo, I've done well at my local Crewlet on Friday mornings, early Saturday is also good. I think the trick is to get there early in the day because try as they may the lovely staff can get overwhelmed by the way some (ahem) slobs throw the merch around. (also dressing rooms are available).

    2. Two ways of finding more info if there are no reports from a JCA. I would look online at the center where your outlet is for info.. The one I go to has info listed here, but I don't see anything for JC this week. I'm not sure if they stopped providing info as I don't check regularly. I have called the store directly and asked them to tell me some of the promos. If I'm going to bother driving an hour, I'd like to know if I should bother.

  23. Hi Sabrina and Pretty Addicted.....well, it must have been my lucky day or my winning personality (ha!), but I called and talked asked two different SA's for price adjustments and both times they were happy to do it. The one adjustment was for only $9.00, but I said "it's more money to give J. Crew!" and the SA laughed and was really nice. I have yet to have a very rude or bad experience when dealing with SA's when I call for assistance. They've always gone out of their way to assist me. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

  24. Has anyone seen the Cafe Capri in Caribbean tweed, mango colorway, in person? Very curious about the fabric and the fit. They appear to be online-only and while I was quite taken with them in the catalog, I never, ever wear pants (I own exactly one pair of JC pants, the Hutton bow trousers from the holidays, and they're a totally different cut) so I am very confused about what size to order and I'd prefer not to order multiple sizes. Will a petite size be a nightmare on someone who's short but has a long torso? I don't know whether to go with straight sizing like I did with the Hutton trousers, since I bought them at the store, and have them shortened or go one size up with a petite. I'd also love to know what they look like IRL - they're gorgeous in the catalog but I'd so much prefer seeing an item in person before buying to know if it merits its price tag ($109.99 is a decent price for pants, but it's not like they're giving them away). Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!

  25. Just managed to snatch up the Blythe Blouse in Silk in the lovely Sand Dune shade as a popback early this morning after the sale section got updated, and am crossing my fingers that it ships. I'm sooooo excited for this color as I haven't liked any of the bright (garish, in my opinion) purples and blues that the Blythe has come in lately. I should've bought more of the earlier colors, such as the delicious Olive Moss. I hope they continue to offer the Blythe and bring back some rich, muted colors.

  26. I asked this in the reviews thread as well, but since the item in question just went on sale I thought it would be appropriate here as well:

Has anyone tried the No. 2 Pencil in Pop Art Polka Dot? If so, how was the fit? I only ask because I found the No. 2 in Garden Floral to fit a bit bigger than normal (I went down a size from my very consistent pencil skirt size). Thanks!

  27. Has anyone tried the factory cropped chino? I've been looking for a pair of crop/capri pants and being 5'3 it isn't exactly easy. TIA!

  28. First time poster here, but I have been an avid reader / follower for quite some time. First off, thank you Alexis for this wonderful blog, as well as all of you ladies for your extremely helpful comments and reviews! Since reading, I've started to curb my insane tendency to impulse buy new items immediately, as they usually sit in my closet with the tags attached until long after they have gone on sale. One such item would be the Jules dress in silk stripe, which I held out on until the last sale promo (currently on sale for 89.99). I received it last week and the fit was very disappointing - super tight on the shoulders and arms but completely shapeless everywhere else. I ordered my normal dress size (2), but can tell by the fit that sizing up won't help unless I want to look like I'm wearing a tent. Will be taking a stroll today to return it and stalk the sale section (for reference, I'm in NYC and typically visit the Madison Ave store or Rock Center). Glad to have finally joined in on the conversation :)

  30. Anyone else notice that the wool cafe capris (on sale) now show as available in navy, but not to ship until Oct 5? The tall (my size) navy shows as 'final sale,' but a nice associate I chatted with said that is incorrect, and noted my order. Wondering if the navy is a mistake? If it doesn't cancel, getting it at that price will be fab :)

    1. I ordered those yesterday. I think that it may just be a computer error. I guess I had a case of "curiosity killed the cat". Would be lovely to receive those in October though, since they are fall pants. Was that color even available last fall?

    2. D*ska - if you take the item up to the register, it should ring at the same price as noted here. I went to one store today and they had all the new prices marked on the tickets. Another store did not. However, as I said, at the register it should ring at the most current sale price. I've definitely read price info here, gone into the store and it rung up at the sale price even though it wasn't on the ticket. I just assumed corporate codes the SKUs electronically so it doesn't matter what's on the ticket. If someone has differing or more accurate info, please share.
