"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. More pricing games this AM: prices went up for a lot of things in the sale section and they have this weird "up to 70% off original prices" promo that is really just 40% off sale.

Today I'm wearing the sleeveless Liberty ruffle neck midi dress after some issues with sizing. I initially got a size up from my regular JC size because of the reviews that it ran small, but now I have it on, I realize the lining seems to be small, not the dress itself. The lining seems to be a size smaller than the dress, it feels like I'm wearing the right size but in reality I look like I'm wearing something 1 size too big. Does that make sense? There's a lot of material at the bust and skirt but I can feel the lining around my hips and it feels just right. This is a bizarre construction issue.

    1. Oh no, that's gotta be so uncomfortable! Question - are the lining and the dress attached/sewn together? If not, it could very well be the lining from a different size dress. Maybe you can order a smaller size dress to compare?

    2. They're sewn together. I also notice that when I walk the skirt kind of balloons up, as if the lining of the skirt is restraining the flow of the skirt.

  3. We are guessing what the promo will be tomorrow. Big, 50 off, bigger, 40 ish off (not sure what the 70 off is referring to). Will tomorrow be biggest at 60 off, 70 off or 30 off? Maybe back to 50?

    1. With the Fourth of July weekend approaching, the promos will probably get better. We'll be seeing fall previews before you know it (especially once the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale catalog shows up online)!

    2. Ugh I didn't think about this. I placed an order today at the 40 off. I guess I have to look forward to reordering.

    3. Regardless of the latest promos, all of the items I’m considering we’re cheaper 1-2 months ago. Except the necklaces that went up in price by about $80 (not a typo eighty dollars), which were cheaper a week ago. Not surprisingly, my interest in buying from J.Crew has decreased commensurately with each price increase.

    4. I’ve noticed some increases as well. It doesn’t make for a pleasant buying experience when you have to second guess every purchase.

EEPS, you never know, prices can increase if they do a higher percentage off.

  4. I wanted to try the Ratti Tiger dress, but it went from being on sale to being full price as of yesterday. Then today its on sale again, but the sizes are almost gone. Sigh.

  5. Received my colorblock snakeskin slingbacks today and although the box is a mess and the shoes were not stuffed or well protected, they fit fine and I paid a fair price,

I also received an Everlane order which included their new cutaway tank, a sweatshirt and cotton sweater.
I loved the tank but took a pic and realized the cut in the back is uneven. I folded it in half and sure enough it’s off about 1/2 inch.
Sweater...love the chunky knit and at $88 it is a splurge. There was a minor pull which makes me hesitant. I have to try on with some bottoms to see if it’s worth it.
Sweatshirt, cropped so I’ll have t try with high waisted pants. It’s simple and feels nice.

    1. Glad the shoes worked out! I've been liking the snake block heel mules. Surprisingly comfortable.

I received my $10 roll-neck unisex sweater. As I expected it is a bit oversized in S, but Mom said it looked good, and I'll go with that. Too warm for now, but it will see some wear in the fall. It's all cotton and seems soft & heavy.

    2. Which Everlane sweatshirt did you order? I've been eyeing the lightweight French terry shrunken hoodie but haven't decided on size (or color...but will likely go with off-white even though I have a different style in bone haha).

  6. J.Crew customer service really has gone from back to worse. First, with the new price adjustment policy to their handling of defective items. I recently purchased the Collection silk-twill button-up shirt in jungle print. The second time that I wore it I realized that the sticking along the cuff on one of the sleeves was completely defective and the bottom strip was not properly sewn on. I sent in lost of pics to show the very visible issue. The response that I received was that I would have to pay for shipping to return it because it was purchased over 30 days ago and that I would only receive a gift card if it was deemed defective after inspection. I still haven't heard back regarding my request for a free shipping label, but this is just disappointing. When I had a cashmere sweater's sleeve literally fall off several years ago-- J.Crew was great and issued me a refund without any hassle. Not anymore. I really want to stick with J.Crew, but after being a dedicated customer for over 2 decades, I really don't think I'll be shopping with them much more (at least not directly). Nordstrom has much better customer service policies.
