Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. They are adding a few things and I am mystified by the Wide-Leg, cropped pant in corduroy. I'm sure it's just me but I could never pull that off.

    1. My issue is that if it is chilly enough for cords I probably want full length pants not a cropped length. Plus I agree a wide leg cord just seems a bit odd in general.

    2. Broken record: I do not want, nor will I wear, anything cropped in the fall or winter. It is 61 and rainy today and I'm freezing in my very old pixie jodhpur pants and ballet flats. FREEZING.

    3. I can't wear cropped and wide. It makes me look like an anvil fell on my head. In fact wide legged pants just look bad on me but that wide whale corduroy on top of the wide leg on top of the cropping? It's like they were playing Bingo to hit all the bad marks (for my body type anyway).

  2. A bunch of new stuff is up, but I hope the catalog comes soon. As of now, it still seems too hot for fall and the catalog always helped inspire me to buy.

  3. Some new items. Nothing looks even remotely interesting. J Crew looks more like H & M at the moment but much more expensive. If I want Zara or H & M they need to lower their prices exponentially. Yuk!

    1. Ironically H&M seems to have stepped up their game. I don't want the stores to be similar though :( I see J. Crew as being more timeless, more fancy, more carefully produced.

  4. Well if I wasn't buying at 40% off I'm not buying at 25% off. Aside from some shoes, I do like the ballon sleeve turtleneck BUT I realized it's a ribbed merino. If they were going to do a ribbed knit I would prefer cotton. I was hoping it was a smoother merino like some of the other turtlenecks I've gotten. The length also seems a bit short for me at 23 inches.

  5. Weird how the look of the new arrivals on the site looks nothing like the vibe and feel at Brookfield, which I always associated with being the preview of how things will look in stores. Online the new arrivals look really young - wide cropped pants, puffed sleeves, more logo tees (ugh) and a giant leopard heart on a red sweater that I thought was misplaced crewcuts at first. I can’t wear any of this to work and I won’t wear it on the weekend either. I don’t shop at Madewell for a reason but it looks like Madewell is being stuck down my throat anyway.

    1. I also thought the leopard heart sweater was a misplaced crewcuts when I saw it! Too funny (and maybe a little sad)

    2. It doesn’t look at all like the vibe I saw in my retail store Saturday, which had a lot of new stuff I really liked: lots of wear to work, lovely colors in the everyday cashmere, and donegal tweed. What’s in my store looks very elevated compared to this.

  6. if I wanted Madewell ...I would go to the site. I agree its being shoved down our throats. if this is the "new J Crew" they can keep it.
the point sur items are not really my style either.
FYI ...saw the mini Harper bag in store...too small.they did not have the other styles of the larger ones .leather felt "hard" cardboard like...and cheap.

  9. my order from Aug 31 has yet to ship. seems they had alot of traffic the long weekend and orders are backed up. at least that is what CS told me. I have not received my shipping confirmation yet. anyone else?

    1. I have orders from then that seemed to have disappeared. One supposedly shipped aug 31 but there’s no update since (I’m in Canada). A couple have said “open for over a week” which usually only says that right when they ship for Canada. Along with the fact that Canada has no promo right now and hasn’t had one free ship day since the US rewards started I’m pretty turned off right now.

      Delete
    2. yup...US card customers are what ever they call the rewards get free shipping all the time. we Canadians get nothing... sorry
i know its not Wednesday vent day...

    3. Sent an email and called CS about a Labor Day weekend order. They confirmed that they are backlogged from orders that weekend. I feel like I could just order the items today and receive them faster. I received an order I place a week later in 3 days but this order is still in process.

  10. Please engage me as I'm stuck home recuperating and can't do too much.
Looking at new arrivals (here and elsewhere) and thinking of your own closet, what are you going to wear that you haven't in awhile, or what accessories will you switch up? Have you seen any new styling tricks to try? Are you going to break out a different type of denim from your stash?
Since we basically went from 90 degrees to 50s and rainy, I'm not so inspired.

    1. Hi Suz - it's funny, I was thinking about how I've hoarded clothes over the last 10+ years so now some of the new arrivals stuff I already have, like the dark wash trouser jeans (K5219). I have the 2007 version that are almost identical, but are more of a 9" rise than 11" so they're more flattering on me. That leopard print from the wrap dress and the lady jacket is also from 10 years ago, so I'm interested to see what else they bring back from the vault.

      Feel better!

    2. When I saw the trouser jeans I remembered all the trouser jeans I got rid of! Then I remembered when the Tahoe wash trouser jeans were on sale for $50 at some point last winter. I actually think the 11" rise may work well for me, but I'll wait. I still have my stupid point sur high waisted boot cut black jeans that I feel so silly wearing even though they're flattering. I think that 32" inseam is tricky though. For me (as in those jeans above) they're just too short to wear with heels and a little long with ballet flats. To get that long line heels work better.

I feel pretty good, just restricted Activity, so I'm a little bored, but I'm not complaining. Doing some gentle yoga. If the rain clears I'll walk a little.

    3. got out an excusion vest today. I own only two. A navy factory one...that is not as nice as retail.so I wear this one out in the yard etc. the back retail one i have is much nicer. i like the new faux fur one at retail in the beigey (tan/blond?) tried it on and it is TTS...for any other vest afectionadas..

    4. I have three excursion vests and have bought for my daughters too. I can't get into the faux fur vest from J,crew though. I feel like it's too much of a cross between fleece and faux fur. The best faux fur vests I've seen are a little over the top. I used to have a few that I sold over the years. The best was was an ivory faux one that was long enough to cover my butt. I wore it all through my last pregnancy which might have been why I had to say goodbye. I have a collection of real vintage furs from family members but can't get myself to wear them. I don't want to pay to maintain them but they're just not my thing, and I can't give them away yet.

    5. Suz Has, Glad you’re on the mend! I’ve only thought about fall/winter for a second because it’s still so warm here in Texas. It won’t really cool off for another 45-60 days. I’m planning to wear all of the end of season sale sweaters and coats I bought last year. I bought several cashmere sweaters, boiled wrap wool coat in olive and boucle coat in black/white. I’m also planning to wear more of other designers that I own like Theory, Helmut Lang and Vince. Most everything I’ve seen for the fall trends is a variation on something I already own. I’ve had a few purchases from Nordstrom Rack and NM with clearance items from previous seasons. I did make a “buy list” of a handful of items from the current season that includes a ba&sh black leather wrap skirt from Nordstrom, JC Collection navy leather midi skirt and Tiger silk print dress. I won’t buy until there’s a promo. I have an attic storage of winter clothes that I didn’t bother to bring down last year because I had plenty to wear in my extra closet. Clearly, I don’t need anything. So, while I’m sure I’ll pick up some things along the way, I don’t see much to buy honestly.

    7. Tara. Thank you, and I agree 💯.
I'm always looking at denim and new ways to approach it that aren't too trendy. I tried the crop flare and didn't love it, nor did I love the wide leg crop jean. I thought I could find something new/interesting with skinnies or boyfriend style but nothing appeals to me. I might just do a raw hem on one of my Levi's but that's not too exciting.
Since I replenished my skinny jeans last year and have plenty of BF/straight leg I would only buy something great. I've got tons of white/black button downs and blouses, blazers, great shoes and basic sweaters. Since sweaters don't last the way they used to I'll keep my eyes out but I probably have more than I need for the season.

    8. @ Suz Has - I am also at home after abdominal surgery. I started working from home today, that should last at least two weeks more. Then I can drive if I feel well.

With the cool weather today I am wearing my Ashbury flares. They are too short for heels on me (32 inch) but work with loafers, low boots, sneakers etc. Plus they are good around the house as I do not trip on them. I am also wearing a J Crew summer sweater, the flare-sleeve marled v-neck. It works great with denim, even better with white denim.
Since I did not get to wear my white denim flares, straight leg or skinnies much this summer due to the heat, I am determined to wear them into October on nice days.

    9. whats up ladies? I have had trigger finger surgery and am off work...typing with left hand is slow... I find being at home pretty boring with not being able to use right hand.
have been clicking on new arrivals..but have not given in to tempation to order just yet.

    10. @SuzHas, p banos and unknown, I hope you all feel better after your surgeries and heal quickly!
Like @mygoddy I have a number of end of season sweaters and coats from last year (cocoon and Wintress puffer that you @SuzHas inspired me to buy last yr). It will be nice to get some use out of them. As for new arrivals I feel like I have a lot of similar items or I have fit issues when I try new items. I am trying to wear what’s in my closet because my older Items really are better quality anyway. For example, I tried the newish shirtdress in navy and as reviews said it ran quite small. I remembered that I had the navy silk Blythe dress (from 2011 I think) in my closet so I tried that. The drape looked so much better on me, just a nicer dress in general although I wish it was a tad longer. This reminded me that I keep buying more and more but often I have a similar item already.

    11. @jan thanks for the well wishes. At our house we say only buy a new one if you like it better than what you have. My problem is that I seem to find a lot of things I do not have...like the same shoes in four colors...

    12. P banos and Unknown, feel better ladies!

P banos, I tried that flare sleeve sweater after appreciating it on Others on insta but the proportions were not right. However I do like my lace up beach sweater from last year which has a similar loose knit. I know how much you love those Ashbury flares so I'll keep trying mine. Sometimes it takes years to actually wear something and then it becomes a fast favorite!

  11. looks like new online format. always hard to get used to changes.
this new is no exception. I know the models of years past were looking quite dishevelled...but I still prefer real models to real people like me....

  12. Was browsing the new arrivals and noticed a lack of petite options in several pieces that I'm interested in, particularly the Daphne coat and the collection tie-waist pants. Will the petites be released later or did they stop making them entirely?

  13. I received the new Fall 2018 catalog. Things I like: the focus on the “power of the group” (#MeetMyCrew), focusing on teams that do collective good (non-profits, youth, animal rescue, etc.). So cool to see an emphasis on community with real folks wearing J. Crew clothing. They are also holding a contest where you can enter your favorite group or non-profit for a $10K prize. Also, inspired by the men’s section: nice colors, relaxed looks, some fun patterns. Lots more smiling faces on the models and, as an Asian woman, I love seeing POC well represented in the catalogs!

Things I miss: the inspired styling, fun outfits for women. I just see lots of denim, standard combos. I don’t always wear the goofy combinations, but I loved seeing them in print. Nothing floats my boat here, unlike Fall catalogs from years ago.

Nice surprise though: 2, 15% off coupons to be used in store or online!

    1. Usually I'm inspired, at least if not to buy, to reinvent my own clothing and there isn't really much going on that makes me want to try anything different. I mean aside from the page where the model is wearing multiple Daphne top coats, I'm not really seeing much creativity. And jeans that I like shown loose in the style guide are more fitted online and I realized I already have similar loose jeans that fit the way I want.
