"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Another night of the "no promo" promo. Now they don't even try to pretend that it is a promo and just advertise new arrivals while over 1500 in sale section at midnight eastern. You win Jcrew! I'm going to bed!

  2. Buuuu no new promo! just a couple of new arrivals.

  3. Shipping takes foreeeeeever!! I know it's economy, but some orders are taking 2 weeks. Also, has anyone tracked their order to find that it's transferred from UPS to the post office for delivery?? It happens to half of my orders, and it adds another delay. Ugh.

    1. UPS uses Smartpost for economy shipping so yes most packages get transferred to the post office for final delivery. That's where the delays usually occur. The PO blames UPS and UPS blames the PO. My bet would be on the PO for the delays, not surprisingly. I've had packages sit at my local PO for one week after UPS delivers it to them. UPS relinqueshes responsibility once they transfer to the PO.

    2. IMO, USPS is creating the additional delay. Mine is pretty bad. It used to take a day for a letter to come to me from SF and it has sometimes taken a full week. They've had many cuts and I've noticed the difference in service.

    3. I've actually had the opposite happen before, where UPS sits on the package for two days before transferring it to the post office. My packages usually get to me pretty quickly once the USPS gets it, but I live in a metro area so the packages don't have too far to go once they hit the hub.

  4. On WWW you can have an idea of the AW 2014 collection: I don't like it and I don't understand which way J.crew is heading. Are yiu lost?

    1. Ugh, more Cosby sweaters and 80s bomber jackets for women. Also, now we get wide leg cropped pants for winter instead of tapered cropped pants.

  5. Small roll out this morning *I think* I'm seeing so many familiar things that I'm not sure they are really new or I just missed them before.

    1. Another epic morning in the sale section too, over 1700 items in women with no promo

    2. I just got an email promoting up to 50 percent off sale styles! But when I checked the sale section, it is the same old stuff at the same old prices. Funny how they tried to make it sound new and exciting....

  6. Still upset about the tag left on my shirt, hate that an item is on sale but only the regular- why not the petite? and I tired of all the ankle skinny chinos and pants...BRING BACK THE EVERYDAY CHINO (some of us work in places where cropped pants and slim pants...are just not appropriate...)

    1. Agreed!! I loved the Everyday Chino's fitted waist/hips with the classic fuller leg. They were flattering, comfortable and very well made.

    2. I hate all skinny pants. I agree. I am tall and thin but that doesn't mean I like skinny pants or jeans. I loved the everyday chino. Glad I bought so many pairs over the years.

  7. Rewards cards!
Even when I call customer service (both jcrew and the credit card company) they give me the wrong info!
And I still haven't gotten mine yet. :/

    1. @Miss JR -- i emailed J.Crew b/c i never received my Rewards in the mail either. My Reward Card mailed 01/02/2014. J.Crew emailed back and replied with 'please call our customer service' - most likely because it's safer to discuss account issues over the phone than via emails. i called them today and the representative was super sweet. her name was Dolly. Since they cannot resend another Reward Card -- Dolly advised 2 options -- 1.) i can call to place an order and the sales representative assisting me with the purchase(s) should be able to apply the Reward amount or 2.) shop in store and the person ringing up can call J.Crew who will pull up the Reward amount and assist the in-store representative to apply it to the purchase. hope that helps!

    2. The Rewards are handling inefficiently to begin with. The way things are going for this time period are highlighting the Comenity Bank's weaknesses.

I called JC and the rep told me she can't see the Reward amount and to call the bank. I called the bank and they told me the reward amount, which o course I wasn't able to see for myself online. #theysuck Then she told me that I had to wait for it to arrive in the mail. Nothing about JC personnel being able to apply it over the phone.

      Love the inconsistency.

  8. Anyone else notice that the items ordered online are coming from stores used, slightly worn with make up or perfume? It used to be that an online order was sent fresh, unused or had never been tried on. Not anymore. Another cost cutting measure, jcrew? It's not working for me.

    1. I've definitely had this issue with pop back items...and it's gross. And to add insult to injury, the store items often come with the in-store price tag attached, which is always a lower sale price than what you paid on-line.

    3. yes!!! i recently placed an online order on Feb 6th for the sperry shearwater in modern red...upon opening the box -- they definitely have some wear to them!!! what the heck --hard-earned cash for used shoes?!? how is that okay j.crew?! and to boot (no pun intended) one of the toe areas has a quarter sized black/grey stain that cannot be wiped off with a wet wipe! i've loved j.crew since 1999 -- their quality has changed SO much over the years. conflicted on what to do since it was difficult to obtain the pair in the first place! *sigh

    4. To R, Igrid, and dms2008. I had the exact same issue! Sounds like we ordered at during the same 40-50% off sale items. I purchased 2 pairs of shoes and 3 sweaters. The 3 sweaters had been returned, the in-store security tags had been cut out and there was the previous owners hairs on these sweaters. Both pairs of shoes also arrived from different stores, both worn and returned! Since the shoes were final sale, I contacted CS, Sarah told me that every time I order online, I should request to have all my orders quality control checked. Isn't that J Crew's job to be inspecting items when they've been returned?! I don't like this new online order fulfillment through store inventory!

  10. Beyond frustrated with the quality of the Majesty Peacoat. Have only worn it a handful of times since January and each time a button pops off. So tired of resewing and mending. Ridiculous. I'll go back to Nordstrom to search for a winter coat.

    1. I've had the same issues wirh the buttons popping off - after only the second wear! I used to love J.Crew for quality, detail, and great fabrics with nice design. I'm just disappointed anymore. The cashmere pills terribly after only a few wears.

    2. I just received my Majesty Peacoat order the other day, and as soon as I tried it on, the button popped off while I took the coat off. Then and there, I vowed to go on a diet (after Valentine's Day, of course), but I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one with the button popping problem!

  11. Just received the factory merino wool cardigan in vivid aqua- the "merino" is 20% - the 80% is cotton. However it does not feel like there is any wool content. It feels like the Jackie blend. The entry price was $74.50 - around the price of the long 100% wool cardigans they offer in the winter. Does anyone even check that the copy matches the item?

  12. I woke up at 3am and couldn't go back to sleep, so I checked the J.Crew site and saw the new 'heart214' promo and was excited that the merino side panel sweater and the arrowhead necklace were included and still on promo for $64 and $108 respectively. I didn't buy either because it was 3am after all. I just checked the site and they bumped them back up to full price again! I am just really tired of all of the pricing games and inconsistencies; I needed to vent!

    1. Erica, I agree. I just deleted items from my cart for that same reason. At 10:30 MST my items were on promo too and with the discount were reasonable. Now all back to regular price. Oh well, what did I expect from J Crew, so they get no order from me.

  13. I just saw J. Crew's Fall 2014 outfits... are you kidding? gold sparkly cropped loose-fit pants? A sweater with big tassels hanging off the bottom? A grey ombre fisherman sweater paired with ugly silk pajama pants? Drop-waisted dresses that have a poufy skirt? I feel like J. Crew has gotten "too cool for you." And that's not my style. I'm off that crazy train.
