"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

    3. Just wait, I'm sure you'll get one eventually. I've gotten about half a dozen since they've started sending them. So ridiculous.

  2. I unsubscribed from emails awhile ago, so never get notifications of cardholder promos, etc. Today they decided to randomly send me the puppy email.

  3. Ordered an extra wool Parke blazer in my perfect wool Parke blazer size. It arrived, fit like a dream, except the sleeves came down below my fingertips. I figured this must be accidental. So, since color and size were still available, I ordered another. The sleeves came down below my fingertips. Had I been delusional when I tried on the very first, very perfect blazer? Tried it on. It was still perfect. Now what?

BTW the 3rd blazer arrived in a quart-size plastic bag. Is this meant to tell me it’s airplane-safe?

    1. Sometimes different runs (say colors) of the same garment do vary. Maybe the pattern was copied a little differently. And perhaps your perfect fit the one-off! If you love the jacket, I bet it is worth tailoring the sleeve.

    2. Dye lots can certainly vary, especially for natural fibers that have variations in moisture and fiber content, which can cause the fabric to absorb the dye colors differently.

Patterns today are duplicated using computer-aided design and there should never be that much variation in a sleeve length with good quality control!

    3. I have several Parkes in different fabrics and colors. Only the 2 recent ones had gorilla sleeves.

Shortening sleeves with the Parke’s elaborate button arrangement means rebuilding the sleeves, at more than the jackets cost.

Anyone know a gorilla that needs a jacket for an interview?

    4. I have unfortunately short t-rex arms and I agree that altering sleeves with working buttons rarely works out well. IME many tailors won’t rebuild the sleeves for any price, as they fear the customer won’t be satisfied with the results. I’ve seen other women fold the sleeves up on blazers, but I think that looks ridiculous. I’ve never really come up with a good solution, so I just let my sleeves hang a couple inches longer than they should. Maybe I need to invest in some sleeve garters. Think I can start a trend? :P

  4. So, I was invited to apply for VIP status and when I did, I was rejected. It said my "group" was full. Really, J. Crew? Do you think this is the way to treat customers? Ask them to invest their time to fill out your survey about how old they are and how much they spend and then reject them. My impression is that I'm viewed as too old and not willing to spend enough. What they don't know is that I've been underemployed for several years and recently got a great new job that will require new clothes. I returned their $188 wool trousers (with sale discount and rewards, much less) today and will be driving to Brooks Bros. store over the weekend to pay full price for a pair of navy wool trousers if the quality is there.

    2. I got the same email from Madewell and also put in some time and divulged personal information only to be told I wasn’t needed. Fine, but how about a percentage off a purchase or something for the effort? It’s eveb more annoying to be lured in with promises of all these perks you’d receive if chosen when they probably had enough participants before they even sent the email. Sigh.

    1. Perhaps more space will open up in the future if participation rate of the group drops below a certain percentage. J.Crew should have clarified that space is limited and an invitation does not guarantee admission, as such is the case with focus groups.

  7. I've mentioned some disappointment before but I cannot believe that literally every pair of shorts I bought last summer fell apart. Broken zippers, seams unraveling. I had one pair from Madewell that became unwearable after one wash, and they actually credited me because I complained. I'm not hard on my clothes and actually try to only wash most items on delicate. If I wanted disposable shorts I'd go to the sale rack at Burlington Coat factory and spend $5 on pull on elastic waist drapey shorts.
    Very frustrating.

  8. Not a vent, but a question re: returns by UPS/mail. I returned a defective shirt after calling customer service to get approval to return (the 60-day return window had passed). Used the UPS label sent to me and can see that it was received by J Crew on 07/27. How long does it take before an email is sent out confirming return?

    1. @shopalot, a week to 10 days more or less. All incoming returns even showing a received date still must be scanned into their system. Hope this helps
