Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Bought the yellow plunging one piece as that color finally went to the lower sale price and all colors are same cost. Bought the champagne slouch sweater. So sick of everything is navy, gray or white! Bring back the colors! I was disappointed that the wool pencil skirt didn't have fun colors this fall! I buy one every year but it seems they've slowed down on skirt offerings 😒

    1. +1 for colour! I'm wearing my bright yellow Painter tee today, it's a great highlight to layer into many different outfits.

    2. Yes more colors would be great. The whole reason I started shopping at J Crew a decade ago was because of the great color offings. Back then it was one of the few places I could find chartreuse or flame or other bold colors. I love navy and black too but I hope J crew doesn't turn into the sea of other retailers that only offer black, grey, pale pink, and beige.

    3. As for the wool pencil skirts, I don't know if you like the factory pencil skirts, but they have some bright colors such as mustard, bright pink, and green. Boden usually has some nice colors too.

  2. No visit for me but I placed orders from Crew and Madewell for mostly black items 😉 ^. Since I'm living the dark skinny jeans I got from JCrew I'm trying the black 8" toothpick/skinniest from both brands, plus the coated denim to see if they're worth the price. Trying the turtleneck tippi with the zipper cuffs and the ruffles. I think it might look like too much but while it's on promo I'll give it a shot, also ordered a boiled wool sweater coat from Madewell since I wanted something longer than the boiled wool wrap coat drew is offering. The only color I ordered was the Avery glittery tweed pumps, because glitter plus black and white,

  3. So checked out my rewards points on my J. Crew card this morning. I have just enough to get $25 in rewards next go around. The cut off is 9/30 and I have no pending orders. That is a new record low spend for me. By the looks of things by the next time rewards roll around I may not purchase enough to get anything. Good for my wallet though and enjoying shopping my closet for the time being.

  4. Went to store for pickup; tried on both items, then returned both-boo. Did pick up a gold S’well bottle, as it was included in the 30% off, and I’ve gotten a lot of use out of the one I own.

Not being tempted by much in store; may be a combo of my new casual everyday and many of the new arrivals not appealing to my taste. Store had New Balance collaboration items (first I’ve seen in either local store); were cute, though one rack was very spring-hued IMO.

    1. What did you return? My store has not much but I like the ship to store option so I can see what's there (and return before I bring items home if necessary)

      Delete
    2. Returned a pair of shorts that were a size smaller than my norm but that I hoped might work as my size hasn’t popped back, and the chambray striped top. The top was cute, but had an exaggerated triangle shape through the body (not flattering on my busty figure). I also like seeing what’s in store, though neither of my stores have had most items I’ve been interested in (sigh).

  5. Just checked on-line to see what the new promotion was, as I received the email today that SHOPFAST was ending tonight. The 30% promo was still on the page, but the bar at the top had the old "Up to 70% off original prices. Prices marked". Well, I decided to try SHOPFAST on what I had on my cart, which were items excluded from the promo this week...and well, it worked! So if you're up, and want an exclusion item, might be worth a try.

  6. Picked up a ship-to-store yesterday and browsed. The 30% is a good promo but there just isn't much that interests me - it all looks the same. Maybe next rollout.

  7. Those of you that completed the email survey should check your inbox. The 15% off code was sent to me this morning!

  11. No store visit for me either. I've been turning to eBay for items that I either missed out on from prior years or for something similar to what I see offered now but doesn't quite hit the mark.

I like the ruffle mini skirt in houndstooth, but when I tried it on it made me look wide around the hips. I ended up finding the double-notch mini skirt in houndstooth (C9139) on eBay and love the colors and the shape better. Plus, no elastic waistband.

    1. Hi FriendlyFemme - I've been doing the same! I didn't love the current pants selection at JC, so I went over to eBay and found a pair of Waverly chinos (NWT!) and a pair of olive ripstop pants from 2010 in pristine condition, identical to a pair that I had and wore out.

  12. Stopped by one of the Houston stores which was full of sweaters and coats but the temperature is still very much in the 90s here so not really in the sweater buying mood. I'll check back in a couple of months when it's actually chilly to see what they have.

  16. I stopped in hoping to see the plaid bomber in person - my store didn't have it. Leaving, I noticed a mannequin in the window wearing the merino v-neck with drawstring sleeves (G9845) in the vintage cabernet color. The color was stunning. Very rich and saturated.
I thought about this sweater while driving home. I have successfully avoided the abundance of off-the-shoulder, could shoulder, ruffles and bell sleeve items, as they just aren't my personal style. But this sweater seemed more subtle. The slight bell sleeve silhouette created by the drawstrings, placed on a gorgeous fall hued merino wool sweater didn't seem over-done; in fact it struck me as "classic with a twist" which is what so many of us have been hoping J Crew will move back to. I'm hoping for more of that vibe with the October roll out!
I'm going to go back tomorrow and try it on.

  17. For my fellow Everlaners out here:

    1. Good article. Fashion is a tough business. I hope they stay afloat by not cutting corners with quality. Like what JCrew did. You listening JCrew? Don't cheapen the brand. Go back to making ALL your shoes in Italy.

With Everlane, I'm still obsessing over their shoes. Especially the Modern Loafer and the Modern Oxford. Bought the Chelsea three years ago and had to return it; it was hard to put on/off. I think I might have to go to their pop-up store to try on their shoes. I haven't tried their clothes yet. I would like to see IRL first.

      Delete
    2. I found it interesting. My quick take away is that with Everlane it's more about supposed transparency. Where the clothes are made, fabric content, etc., not necessarily that it's done BETTER than typical retailers. I had a similar thought about a newish direct to consumer sofa company. They're not doing anything new or different, it's not as though their stuff is all made in the USA, but they seem to offer some transparency about their factories and materials used.
With a lot of this stuff, it's not that any of it is new or different, it's just how it's presented to us. I think we like when a buying experience makes us feel like we are making a better choice over for example what's offered at Walmart. At least that's how I feel.
      I could be totally wrong.

      Delete
    3. Suz, I totally agree with you. I frequently get better deals at JCrew than at Everlane and the clothes are more intricate and there's greater variety. But with everlane, there are more knowns than unknowns, which lends the relationship stability. Their CS sucks, btw. Only email and slow. And their returns are harder to do too. None of their clothes are form flattering for petite women; I'm not even tempted to try out the denim, which is priced the same as the prices I'd pay for JCrew jeans on sale or promo. Marketing and relationship management and raw materials seem to be three key factors in online retailing. Maqsad

    4. I like their clothing in theory. Since 95% of my wardrobe is black, denim, chaorcoal gray and white button downs, I do like the whole concept, but in a sense it reminds me of Eileen Fisher, but boxier instead of flowy. I've only tried on one EF garment in a tiny size and it was still huge on me (not saying Everlane has the same fit issues).
Thinking about the idea further, if J.crew was smart they'd present a capsule type wardrobe each season maybe including a few unusual pieces, beautiful scarves, a few prints. But offer the classics, well done, in neutrals and a few colors for each season.
Maybe it's just me, and granted I don't need to dress up all the time. And it's not that I'm even lacking in options, I'm just concerned for this brand and I don't get half of the wackiness I'm seeing.

      Delete
    5. @Suz Has I like the idea of a capsule collection each season for J Crew to provide limited edition pieces. I think this could be a great idea for holiday.

With regard to the article, Everlane has a pop up shop @ Nordstrom and I'm planning to check it out. I've never bought anything from the brand, and honestly my initial impression is they're a cheaper, copy cat version of Vince. I'm planning to try a couple of casual cashmere pieces; not much else in the line interests me. The article noted that the company is also struggling with getting design and fit right. I like the idea of transparency in the pricing, but that info doesn't drive my purchasing decision.

      Delete
    6. I ordered a couple of pieces from Nordstrom, I figure it's a lower-risk way to try the brand and get a sense of fit/quality. I'm actually most intrigued by the denim, which is 98% cotton, a rarity these days!

      Delete
    7. JCrew did do a capsule recently - in it were the natural denim skirt; cream denim flares; the Thomas Mason blouse and chino skirt; the ruffled silk pants and trousers. Also the cropped khaki canvas jacket. They presented it as a feature on the website but didn't do any marketing around it. I didn't get why they called it a capsule. I find capsules confusing...but I agree with you that more editing and returning to what they did so well even in the 2000s (why need we go back to the 1980s!) is a good idea. They had current, informed designs, good fabrics. Pricing was a bit iffy. Then it all spiraled down.

      Delete
    8. @masqad I didn't even realize there WAS a capsule. To your point about marketing, that would be a no brainer.

      Delete
    9. Maqsad, I meant a more traditional capsule concept: coordinating pieces in neutral colors to be mixed and matched. Not that it needs to be so limited. There can be multiple styles of pants, skirts, jackets, tops etc to fit different body types, styles and needs. Then assorted colors and prints could be cycled in/out monthly/seasonally, etc. Take full length pants of pencil skirts, for example. How often do you hear people complain that they're not available or that they wants a particular color?

      Delete
    10. Gotcha. Yeah, I don't think my brain is organized enough where clothes are concerned... but organizing for us (& thereby better directing our purchases) through capsules like you describe should be another (drumroll please) ... no brained! :D

  18. The Factory Suede Moto Jacket arrived yesterday. I really wanted to love this! The style and fit are great - TTS for me in a small, subtle moto hardware, really cute. The color called "Olive" is not too greenish but a nice neutral dark taupe.

Cue the sad face. There is one review on the website and it notes the the dye transfer is a deal breaker. I noticed the same - the white packaging was stained on mine too. I could see the dye coming off on my hands, so I can't imagine rubbing up against light colored walls, upholstery etc. Poor quality suede, poor quality dye and finish.

It's going back. This is the way it is going for me lately at J Crew ... you can see the emphasis on style and trends but the quality is just never coming back.

    1. Hi ruffles - thanks for your review. I hemmed and hawed on this one for a few days and once that lone review about the dye transfer showed up I just couldn't go through with it... then it sold out in my size. Still kicking myself for not picking up the navy leather jacket earlier in the year.

I got an e-mail this morning that said free shipping for cardholders on all orders for October. It feels like JCA's have wanted this forever!
Unfortunately, my wishlist and shopping cart are both empty.

    2. That's unfortunate Ruffles. I think it's Factory JCrew that's why the quality was not there.

      Delete
    3. Oh no! That is not what I expected your review to be. I can't believe it's coming off right on your hands and on the packaging. Best to find out now before someone's clothes or couch or car is ruined by it. I wonder what the washing instructions are. Do you think a dry cleaning would set the dye? Washing something like that with vinegar is probably not advised.

    4. Oh, that's disappointing, Ruffles, bummer😕 But glad you're finding out sooner rather than later.

  28. I can't break my cycle - can't resist looking every morning. But absolutely right - total waste of time. I don't even know why I bother. I went to the Anthropologie outlet last weekend and bought 12 things for $180. After picking up pants for $5, now the bumble bee pants that just arrived don't seem like such a great deal after all.
For those who picked up the mens-y tiger cardi for awhile (god I hate that name), how is the wear so far? Mine is coming tomorrow despite my misgivings about the color being printed on. If I didn't love those tigers so much I'd have no problem returning despite the good sale price. But if it stretches out and looks shoddy after a few wears, I'll give it up.

  32. Some reviews today:

I received the glittery tweed Avery heels. The glitter is a different color and kind of cool, sore of a grayish green (muted silver) with pink, gold etc, and shifts in the light. The heel height is comfortable. The pointed toe works well for my foot shape, actually they feel more comfortable than the more rounded toe sequin Sophia's I got last winter. The tweed heel and strap is cute but not over the top. I don't need them at all but I do like them. A LOT. fit: I ordered my Gemma size and a size up as some reviewers said they needed to size up. I tend to not with pointy toes and my smaller Gemma size is the right choice.

8" toothpick jeans in true black. I ordered a 24 which is the smaller of my denim sizes and what I needed in the dark wash toothpicks I just got. The fit but do feel a little tight on the butt. I ordered black skinnies from Madewell too (and they were $10 less) plus the black coated denim from Madewell so I will see which I prefer.

Tippi turtleneck sweater with ruffle and zippers. I tend to size up to a small in tippis for the length and this fits nicely. A little loose throughthe body but the right length. On someone else I would love this, the ruffle placement is just odd on me. Otherwise I really like the merino, the zippers, the weight, etc. I think I can only do ruffles with smaller proportions.

  34. You may want to check your (old fashioned) mail for a 30% coupon code. I received an envelope from J Crew and inside was a card with a 30% off online code. Store use is excluded. I don't think it's stackable but (finally) it is usable not only in the US but also in Canada! Coupon is good until Nov 15

The recent changes in pricing practices (farewell frequent extra 40% off sale prices) have given many of us a bit of a pause, but some of the sale prices on popbacks are not bad and the extra 30% on top produces some good deals.
