J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Hurry to the Sale section, the 2015 datebook is marked down! It was $28.00, now it's $19.99! Sadly there is no additional percent off. "Only a Few Left", so don't take too long deciding!

  2. Tiered promo at Madewell: 20 percent off $100, 30 off $200. I don't much like the push to spend more than I might intend, but I did use this to order 2 sizes of jeans where the reviews were inconsistent.

    1. Yes! There are a few items I wanted to try...

  3. Snooze...
I was going to try Madewells coated denim jeans, but since they're excluded from promo (and this info is not available until you go to check out) I'll wait. Not sure why they can't put this info on the product page as they do "final sale" so you don't waste time, but whatever.

    1. Same problem with the Madewell x Armor Lux tee I've been eyeing for weeks. Is it that hard to add the note saying this item is excluded from all promos right in the product description page??

    2. Huh -- I clicked through to the promo details and it does say "denim pants" (?) are excluded. The promo did work on jeans in the sale section early this am.

    3. the offer is not valid for Canadian shoppers :(

    4. Who could read all those promo details? Usually I'll look for dates and it might say something like "certain styles excluded," but it's a lot to read in mouse type to realize the one thing I want is not electively for promo. It should be on the product description page.

    5. Not "eligible." Sorry, autocorrect!

  4. There's a new tab on Factory in the Women's section that says "Limited time: students/teachers get an extra 15% off". When you click on it, nothing. That's a new one. Doesn't explain if it's online now too or still just in store, and how it would work if it is online. Can't exactly show your ID. And it's pretty useless now that they won't often stack it w other promos.

    1. Here is the link that worked for me: https://factory.jcrew.com/r/help/teacher-student-discount
The code can be stacked - I was able to combine the discount with the current "TIMBER" promotion.

    2. I "applied" for this back in August, as you just need to submit an image of your ID. However you only get a one time code to use rather than a repeated discount. However, after reading this I called CS and they were able to apply this code to my new order as well, which I appreciate.

  5. The 25% off promo for stores was extended atleast in Canada. It's still offered today in store and I heard it might be extended for a few more days in store.

  6. Doing the happy dance as the popback that slipped through my hands last week magically reappeared this morning and I snagged it. Hopefully I get a shipment confirmation. It's for the khaki skirt.

  7. Sorry for the OT post, but so many Jca’s have mentioned trying the animal print pieces that I wanted to mention Emerson Fry has just added a leopard print coat to their site.

  8. Madewell Embroidered Hilltop Shirt - From this Summer, but thought I'd re-post my review since there's a nice sale offer and there a still a few of these left.

TTS, lightweight, but not too sheer. It is a bit short, but I don't wear it tucked in any way because I don't want to obscure the pretty embroidery. Very pretty. I love it!

Any one have reviews for items from the recent roll out? I've got my eye on a number of things.

    1. I ordered the Sezanne for madewell "Paris Cherie" tee and will review it when i get it.
Wearing two madewell things today (flower stamp shorts and shirred v tank) and love them.
Also love the metallic ruffle tank and the "au revoir" sweatshirt.

    3. I ordered the Girls Inc. female symbol necklace and love that they are donating 25% of sales to this great organization. Should arrive on Thursday. (By the way, I am loving my new Madewell Icon status- free expedited shipping!)

    4. Love that 25% donation, too. Considered ordering the demi-fine bronze blue topaz necklace. Only concern is the possibility of the metal turning green.

  9. wondering if JC's Board checked out West Elm's website and history of sales/not sales before extending an offer...

    1. also, why does JC want me to think that i put some ruffle things with fooffy sleeves into my shopping cart? since i never believe them when they say there are price reductions at Factory, etc etc, why would i believe this? getting annoyed at the repeated insults to my intelligence.

    2. Perhaps the website has been taken hostage by rogue algorithms. If there is still human life at jcrew hq, why has the CDN website sale section remained malfunctioning and unfixed for nearly a week.?? How was West elm performance as an online retailer!

    3. hi...keep calling CS about the canadian web site issues. it has not been fixed yet..like what are they waiting for? It like they don't care!!

  10. I wish I had something to review, but I haven't ordered anything in a while. My wishlist is empty!

  11. Has anyone bought and worn the suede Lottie tassel flats yet? I feel like I'm a little bit in between sizes. I went with my Gemma size 7 but it feels a little snug. I was worrying about too much stretch if I chose to size up a half size.

    1. I returned mine for the same reason. I wanted to like them but couldn't find a fit.

    2. I have only tried them on, and not purchased so I can only comment on the initial fit. I sized up 1/2 size in these. I'm normally a 6.5, wear 7 in cece and 6.5 in gemma. To my surprise 6.5 was tight in the Lottie so I needed the 7.

  12. Happened to be up at 1:30am EST this morning and caught the Factory promo (30% plus free ship) on top of their 50% off prices. I ordered the dot stripe scarf for $13. Note to self if you're up in the middle of the night you may be able to take advantage of Factory's changing pricing games.

  13. My "Order History" has been empty for over a week. For a few weeks prior to that, I would occasionally see an order history with a picture of each item from each order - it was great!! Sometimes I'd get the standard chart with the last 5 orders. But the photo list had pages and pages of orders and went way back. Anyone else? having issues there? Thanks.

    1. Hi Suzy - I know what you're talking about. I've seen the new order history pop up in my account (orders with item pics)... it goes back quite a while (2013, maybe?). However, I don't always get that when I sign in and a lot of the time my Order History page is just a blank screen.

    2. I noticed the new Order History and really like it. The photos are much bigger than before.

    3. Suzy, I have been having issues with this for months. Lately, I have been having more success but you have to have patience (something I am short on). Once I sign into my account and click order history it goes to order details. Then if I wait a few moments the order history screen usually pops up. It is great when it works! So, basically it is pretty janky like the rest of the website has been lately. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you have success ;)

  14. New faux fur coat alert ladies. This one has popped up at Nordstrom (along with the plaid bomber and mini skirt I spied at Brookfield Place too weeks ago):

    http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/j-crew-teddy-faux-fur-coat/4770577?origin=category-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=TEDDY%20BROWN

Will people go nuts for this one too or turn up their noses? I didn't think the faux leopard one would sell so well but clearly I was wrong.

    1. I have one from last year from Zara that I love- and it's not an animal print, just fluffy white, almost like a stuffed animal. I am skeeved out by animal prints. I think they only look good on the animals themselves. But plain fluffy jackets are fun, if they are fake.

    2. That one reminds me of Fozzie Bear from the Muppets. Wocka wocka wocka!

    5. Thanks, Cass. I'm surprised that coat appeals to me. It may be the coziness. I wouldn't, however, want to be accused of making a coat out of a once-live teddy bear.

    6. Teddy Bear Fur coat is adorable. Agree with @American Observer, I think these coats are fun, something I really need in the seemingly endless grey Winters we have around here.

    7. I agree with silver lining. I'm not against faux fur but the texture on that one is a bit...curious. Maybe IRL it has more appeal.

  15. Some review/pics posted on IG @wesrthislikethis.
Boiled wool coat which I mentioned last week, tall ruffle neck top in silk (I don't need the tall but would need to size up, though proportions might not work for me) and Madewell 9" high rise skinny jeans coated edition. The coated jeans are amazing.

I also found two camo tippis in the sale section, in XS and S. I like it. The merino is lightweight so it will work for these nights and cooler days ahead. I opted for the small since I found the sleeves very tight. The body in the XS fit better but at least this way I might be able to layer with a button down. The colors looked good.

  16. I ordered the belted sweatshirt blazer because I thought it could be a good casual Friday or weekend piece. I liked the weight of the fabric and the kimono cut of the arms, but the tied sash/belt did not work for me at all. On the website it appears long enough that you can tie it with a polished bow to set the blazer apart from looking like a bathrobe. The sash with my size did not have enough length to achieve that look. The end result made me look like I had only gotten half dressed. It seems like a cost cutting measure or design blunder. How hard is it to factor in that people who are not the size of J. Crew models are going to need extra fabric to go around their waist.

I also agree about the West Elm sale and pricing strategies starting to seep into J.Crew. Next I'm sure there'll be a promo for 15% off when you sign up for emails.

  17. Anyone notice that Madewell has gotten rid of the white central shirt and white oversized button-down? I loved those shirts, am so bummed I can't restock with this promo. If anyone has an XL hanging around that they don't wear, let me know!

  18. I don't think that I've seen a review of the Tie Neck Dress in Italian Wool which I purchased during the 30% promo a few weeks ago. I really like the deep garnet color. It's definitely cranberry - very vibrant and rich. I was debating on whether or not to keep it because I have a similarly colored dress from LL Bean. The J Crew color is much better. The wool is a pretty nice grade. It's not super thin, or thick, which is preferable. (I have the A Line Dress in Double Serge wool from last winter that's super thick - almost too thick IMO.) The dress is fully lined, has darts - and front pleats - no pockets. The zip isn't stiff or wonky. This dress runs TTS and is very flattering. It's a nice fall/winter piece that is good for work or church.

    4. I think the dress is really pretty but for a wool dress, why are the sleeves so short? I don't think it would look any less pretty with elbow-length sleeves or even with long sleeves.

  19. rogue algorithms, hehe... well, I am still trying to find a pair of green velvet Averys that fit my long narrow pointy feet... hoping for a random pair that eluded "quality control" and was shipped with a narrow heel as well as a pointy toe. Expecting more deliveries this week. Nothing with ruffles, bows, strings, inflatable sleeves... many dupes of the Averys till I get a pair that fits!

  20. Received my order from last week with the Ratti Diamond skirt. It is going back. Too short in the regular for me at 5'4. Was going to perhaps reorder in a tall but honestly it poofs out a lot in the hips and is unflattering. Not going to bother to reorder. This was the only order I have placed in a month so I was hoping to like it.

  21. Anyone have a review on the Madewell Shearling Mongolian Pink Jacket, item H0065? It looks adorable online but it's also sold out! :(
