"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. It feels like time is moving very slow for the next roll-out. 😩😂

    1. will it be in two weeks? The week of the 21-25 (August)?? slow like molasses waiting for this one. I am staying strong and not buying anything until fall roll outs.

    2. rollout is next week - I'd assume Tuesday online? My store is doing new arrival events Wed/Thur/Sat next week.

    3. I think the lack of fall items makes it seem even longer between rollouts. Other stores are showing more fall and like it or not the Nordstrom's sale had more people thinking ahead to cooler temperatures. The September issues will be out soon and most of us don't need anymore cotton of the shoulder tops at this point. I'm not sure this wear it now concept is really working out so well. It seems like a lot of those pieces are already on clearance.

    4. Can't wait to see the Style Guide. It should be loading on Pinterest by this weekend!

And look out for the Pre-Order items online.

    5. @JSR The last i heard styleguide comes out end of august/beginning of september.

    6. @Ina - whaaaa? Why so late? Even if the roll-out is next week or two weeks from now, it doesn't make sense the guide comes out end of the month.

    7. @jSR i understood it that it comes to the store at that time. It mighth be on dissplay with next rollout then,so mid-september.

    8. so we really are unware of when roll outs are and when or if style guides are coming out. this change of leadership at j crew has me feeling like a customer j crew no longer wants,. sad face eimoji here.

    9. On Saturday 8/12, the SA told me "next week"- not sure if that means now or next week.

  2. Blakemdjohns made a really great point in the "Reviews" thread yesterday about the value of reviews an item is first purchased. It's great to get feedback on fit, color, etc., but quality is difficult to evaluate on day one. The cashmere might feel soft and be a luscious color, but if it starts to pill after the first or second wear, no bueno.

If you only intend to wear something a few times, and I think that's becoming a lot of J Crew customers actually, it's no big deal. For items that I want to last - cashmere, coats, jackets, etc. - I would love more feedback on how they hold up after multiple wears and laundering. A lot of my recent purchases barely survived a hand washing.

    1. One thing I like about Amazon reviews is that you can edit them later. Some people will come back after a month, 6 months, even a year and give updates. I'm speaking of mainly small appliance, kitchen items and tool reviews, not clothing of course, but it's still an interesting concept.

  3. @JSR i feel that way too! i'm so bored of the summer stuff now.

i was able to grab the Italian featherweight cashmere wrap sweater
Item G4949 on pop back in what i think will be my size. i got the 40% off for it but didn't want to bother with my rewards card since i kinda doubt the sweater will ship... which is my vent... i always feel like my orders are crap-shoots in regards to whether or not they'll actually ship.

p.s. i ordered some kits and stuff for my bike team... it's shipping from hong kong and will only take 2 days. jcrew? over a week with their orders for stuff coming from a state only a few hours away from me. :/

    1. Awful shipping service. Especially for us California on items shipped from Virginia. :)

    2. Miss JR- I have been surprised lately that I have not received a single item cancellation. Even the "only a few left" items where I could tell there was only one In stock. Maybe it is just dumb luck but I have been pleasantly surprised.

    3. Keeping my fingers crossed for you! I had it in my cart a few weeks ago and it disappeared before I could finish checking out. I hope it ships and works for you. As for me, I am keeping vigil for a popback...

  4. I got a pair of Biella loafers on final sale and I got a pair that was a store display. So, one shoe is perfect and new and the other is completely stretched out and bent in the toe area (the bend when you walk). I know it was sale but come on. I know that the other will get bent as I wear it but now I feel like I have two different shoes...boo!!!!

    1. Honestly those should not be sold as new. They need to be sold as Store Display, so the customer is aware in advance. It's a crappy practice to sell as new.

  5. Anyone with a 20% off code they're not using?

  6. Been sitting on a rewards card AND a birthday card from JC credit card, but there's NOTHING that's captured my attention. It feels like they're holding the fall rollout hostage until they can off-load their inventory of off-the-shoulder tops.

    1. trifecta here - rewards, birthday, 20% coupon.

    2. Omg! I need a 20% coupon!

    3. I have a decent credit sitting. Probably like maqsad, I would buy a couple new full price items with a 20 off, but there's nothing I want in Sale-side or for FP.

    4. Trifecta here: birthday card, fall rewards and a "I miss you" email. The one thing I just bought I couldn't use any promo codes (the thomas mason shirt).

  7. Summer stock, pop backs and such please go away. Deeply discounted and free shipping still draws me in but I want to see fall items. We're about to enter the dog days of summer here and it would be more financially responsible of me to look towards what's approaching.

You know what they say; 'winter is coming'.

  8. This is a long shot, but do any short girls have experience with their one-piece bathing suits? Particularly, the scalloped v-neck? I'm really petite (4'11) and I normally order bikinis from J Crew with no issue, but I'm worried about torso length, especially because it's final sale :/

    1. Hi Diana! Are you worried about it being too long? I would say that their suits tend to be a little on the short side. I am 5'4" and have trouble with the regular suits being long enough. I often buy long torso.

    2. I am 5'3" and agree with Lauren. I recently tried the one-piece open back short sleeve suit in stripes. I consider my torso shortish. I found the suit length to be skimpy (and the sleeves too short and loose).

    3. i agree, i'm 5' 2 and own several one pieces since having a kids. short torso, mostly legs and the regular suits have fit fine.

    4. I'm 4'10" and generally don't have issues but it helps when the shoulder straps are adjustable in case I feel like I need to pull it up a bit.

    5. I'm 5'1, avg length torso, and I often find JC one-pieces to be too short length-wise. Often yanking things for comfort.

    6. Wow, you are all incredible! Thank you so much! I think I'll order the suit. Just hoping it comes before next Friday!

  9. I returned the new camo shirt jacket. It had a couple of problems for me. Too short. Hit just a bit below my waist which just looked weird. Very boxy too. Boxy is ok on me if the length is a bit longer, but this trend of short tops just doesn't work for me. When I was in the store I really admired the pretty elephant print on the off the shoulder blouse. I commented to the SA that I'd buy a normal shirt in that print in a heart beat and she said they have received a ton of feedback saying the same thing. So....when is that trend going to stop!!!???

  10. Type in preorder in the search bar and 6 pages of new fall arrivals popped up.

    1. Ah! I saw some of these at Brookfield Place two weeks ago and reviewed them a few posts back. (Popover in Terrier print -item G8368; Skinny teddie in critter jacquard -Item G8091; Funnel neck striped shirt -item H0948).
I'm loving the cropped pant with Terrier critters
item G8643 and mildly curious about the Collection paper-bag waist skirt in Ratti® midnight floral item G8341 -- but not the price!!

  11. OMFG. They managed to do more one shoulder and OTS for fall in long sleeve iterations. :( :( :( Only thing that interests me is the funnel neck top (aka backwards shirt). Also I feel like Sept is a bit early for the velvet accents on some of the pieces, no?

  12. I once again peeped a datebook in the sale section for $14.99. The kicker? It's from 2016. No comment.
