J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Tons of popbacks just loaded, and free shipping today. Homepage says 50% off final sale styles, but the sale page still shows 30% (sad trombone).

    1. Wow! Even more popbacks (and new markdowns) now. Over 2400.....

    2. Stores have 50% off, so you can call CS after placing an order for a PA.

    3. Our store has had only 30% off sale since yesterday.

    4. Called one of my stores looking for something-they have 30% off sale. The other one is 40% off sale 🤷‍♀️

    5. Placed three orders today (hides face in hands). Initially I was disappointed by the 30% off, but then I noticed that the suede pumps with stamped croc heel are on sale! (not $ x.99 so they might revert back to the original price). And then I noticed that the cropped sweater cardigan had been reduced further. Plus I ordered a few bobs and bits where 30 or 50% off doesn't make much difference.
Summary: all very good reasons for ordering ;-))

  2. Very confused by the Madewell ribbed mockneck midi dress (G7983) on J. Crew's site...

    1. I mean...I guess I'm very confused about a lot of things J. Crew does these days style-wise too. =P But can't wait for a promo to try some of the new pants.

    2. I had to do a double take. Madewell jeans, bags on J.Crew's site? Huh?

    3. Maybe it's sort of like when Anthropologie started featuring Bhldn's dresses on their site, I'm guessing they get more eyes on them that way, but it does seem a little strange.

    4. They did this way back when Madewell started...now I wouldn't be surprised if it was another one of their famous tech glitches. ; )

    5. lots of Madwell shown in new arrivals...not just the dress.

    6. The Transport Tote, a few denim items, dresses, etc. all on JCrew's site. I'm confused as well.

    7. That is crazy! I counted 19 Madewell items. Why would they do that?

      Delete
    8. Hi all - I e-mailed CS and they confirmed that the MW items on the JC site are intentional. I wonder if this is for international customers?

      Delete
    9. I would venture to guess it's to turn people on to Madewell. I never go to MW's website and don't shop there but did see some of the MW items that I liked and actually did go to their site to see if I would like anything else.

  3. Collection Rose Gold Fluted Skirt: Cannot be sold in or shipped to California.

    Boo! 🙁
A skirt that caught my eye from nyfw.

    1. Yes, but aren't you a little scared about a J. Crew that writes something like, "bonus: it's fully lined"? Fully lining a lurex skirt isn't exactly a bonus, kinda necessary actually.

  4. 9” high-rise toothpick jean in Resin wash (B0737) - Okay, these said “Lookout High Rise Skinny” on the tag so they’re playing with the names. I found these to be seriously itchy/crispy. I think I like the resin wash in theory but not as much IRL. I assume that color transfer would be an issue with these.

Slim boyfriend jean in Wakefield wash (G2636) - I wish I could review these, but JC sent the Limited-edition slim boyfriend jean in paint splatter (G6504) instead. I loved the fit, but did not love the paint and found it to be seriously smelly. Also, the paint was kind of tacky (as in, not dry) - they were a little hard to unfold because the painted areas were sticking to each other.

Short-sleeve dress (G8618) - I’m a sucker for grey anything, so I had to give this one a try. I wish it was ponte, but it’s just cotton - similar to the stripe maxi and navy/white stripe dress from fall. The thing is, with that lighter weight fabric and no visual interest, it shows any lumps and bumps. I tried it with some Spanx and it looked fine, but so plain/didn’t pass the Target/Kohls/F21 test. I feel like they could’ve nailed this if it were ponte.

    1. @silver_lining, I love the lookouts except the resin wash ones. Agree they felt itchy and I think crispy is a good description! They felt uncomfortable when I tried them but the other lookouts that I have I love. I don't understand the name change to 9" toothpicks instead of still using lookouts.

    2. Hi jan! I have a pair of lookouts from a few years ago that are great. Glad I'm not alone in the feeling of the fabric - washing would probably soften them up but I didn't love them enough to chance it.

  5. Why oh why would I want to spend 20-30% more on clearance than I would have two weeks ago? A few items tempt me and I feel like I COULD possibly get a PA when they go back down to 50% but seriously...more reasons not to shop.

    1. I got sucked in to purchasing the Silk Tie neck top. Only because it was free shipping and I actually have a $20 credit balance on my credit card right now. Passed on everything else as I can't justify paying significantly more than the price was a few weeks back.

  6. So I did get that cashmere wrap sweater (Item G4949). I bought one size up from my usual size as recommended on the reviews. I think it was the right call but I'm not keeping the sweater.

Love the soft grey color and the cashmere is really soft. I love the idea of the wrap sweater but I feel the execution was off.

It looks great with the v in the back on me. The ties around the waist wrap nicely and I can make a cute little bow in front.

But when the v is in the front, it looks sloppy. And I couldn't get the ties to work unless I knotted it in the back. You can see in the picture that the model is kind of leaning forward a little covering how the front of the belly area lays... And how the knot is more towards the back.

Maybe I would have been better in my regular size. Hard to tell. But I haven't seen it pop back yet. And I'd prefer to have the sweater work with the v in front since I already have a t shirt sweater (albeit without a tie waist).

Maybe if I see a pop back, I'll try it but this one's getting returned... Another in a long line of returns. And quite frankly, not really excited about the new stuff that came out. Sooooo...

    :/

  7. I'm happy to see tall sizes for a Liberty shirt. I think, starting maybe ten years ago, I sent several email to J. Crew about this. I'm glad to finally see this option. There are more tall tops but I feel bad that I'm not interested in them. I hope others like them because I don't want the amount of tall items to decrease.

    1. I'm only 5'6" but with a long torso and I get tall tops when I can. Sometimes I get tall jackets too, not for the overall length, but the proportions. And the arm length.

  8. Wow, 1988 Roll-neck sweater in solid colors sold out already. Disappointed as this is the one item I really liked.

  9. Oh JCrew, why couldn't you have made the merino wool sweater blazer, F4493, in khaki and olive green for this fall. I would have bought both at full price...

    4. @maybelle If I wasn't mistaken, I did see this in Khaki in the Highland Village store in Houston, TX

  10. Have any of you tried on men's sweaters or cardigans? I've been eyeing item G8022 in heather sandstorm but don't know if I should try an XS or S.

    1. Hi FriendlyFemme - I don't usually try men's sweaters but I have been curious...there's a marled cotton pullover that they have styled in one of the women's pictures. What I would do is e-mail CS for measurements on both the XS and S and compare to a cardigan you own. They can provide the exact measurements instead of having to rely on the size charts.

    2. I have one men's cardigan in the slim XS and it fits like a women's Small. I'm usually an XS in tippis. I tend to love the Men's sweaters since they are better quality. The cardigan I have hasn't pilled and it's been over 3 years! HTH

    3. Hey Friendly I can't help with size but I can tell you that the cotton cashmere sweaters I've had have worn well and stood up nicely. I'm 5'9" and 168# and the medium slims fit well. If you're wanted it more fitted look at the slim offerings, otherwise get the regular one.

    4. @ FriendlyFemme Def contact CS., they are very helpful and have the exact measurements of the garment. And beware of the hip measurements: I bought a mens' shirt in slim and it fit great expect from the waist down, too narrow. I just hadn't paid attention to that 'detail'. My son loves the shirt though ;-))

    5. Thank you, jcrew guy and fleur de lys! I'll have to check with CS but once I do it's good to know that it should hold up decently.

  13. A little off topic but I got my Fall Rewards card the other day. Funny, since they haven't sent out a catalog and the new arrivals on the site are all kind of meh. Everything they have up, I have seen before and it's just not exciting. I really hope Jenna Lyons starts her own line soon and that I can afford it.

  14. I received the pleated ombré skirt today- love it! -and will post pictures tomorrow on my IG jcrewmycrew

  15. I received the New York sweatshirt in my smaller sz XS and it fits better through the body than the small did but the sleeves are a tad short/above my wrist. I usually get small in sweatshirts and while the sleeves were a touch longer/better the body was a bit too relaxed for me. I'll live with the shorter sleeves but wish they wouldn't have made them like that. The sweatshirt is cozy, a nice weight - not really thick but I'd say pretty normal for women's sweatshirts. I thought it was a good price point too.

Supima cotton Vneck tee- this tee seems like a good quality, soft tee and I really like the sleeve length (not short and no flaring out) but sadly the Vneck was too low for me. I tried my smaller tee size which fit well but was just too low for my liking, would've def bought otherwise.

    1. I feel the same about this tee. The fabric is so soft and comfortable. Love everything about it except the really low V neck. Wish JCrew would make a ballet or open crew neck version. I'd buy multiples!

    2. @maryeb, that would be great! I'd def buy as well, the material is so much better than the vintage tees.

  16. I just got my Super 120s light violet suit. I ordered the skirt, pant, and jacket in two sizes each.

Jacket - The smaller of my two sizes (00P) fit fine in the shoulders but when the front gapped out when I closed the buttons. I don't know if that's just the style or I don't have a big enough chest. It's a little too long for my taste - very 90s, IMO. Pretty fabric but IDK about the fit.

Skirt - I'm petite but the regular size (00) fit really well. Fitted but not tight, grazes the knee, super comfy.

Pant - the pant in my normal size (0P) fit! This is a first for J.Crew. Work appropriate, not too tight in the rear or the thighs, no camel toe, no weirdness around the knee. A tad long but that's an easy fix. I don't know whether they really fit well or I'm just so used to J Crew pants making me look shorter and wider than I am that I am grateful for anything that looks normal.

So, the skirt is definitely a keeper. The pants, probably. The fabric and color are really lovely. I am wondering if it is worth it to keep them at $111 and $96 or wait for the inevitable sale. The jacket - ugh. Would have liked to have a suit but the skirt and pants can work with a grey or blue jacket and the jacket is too expensive to wear occasionally.
