Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. nice flash sale at Alice and Olivia, plus there's another 12% off at Ebates.

  2. I had ordered a few basics from Talbots but the fit was off for me. The quality seemed to be there on the skirt and shorts I tried but will need to try on in store for correct sizing. I did find a gorgeous dark floral dress from Kate Spade that is downright perfect for me (found at Nordstrom as local KS didn't seem to carry the style). J. McLaughlin has been catching my eye, but spendy. Also Brooks Brothers is having a super sale on shoes and accessories (but hate paying shipping).

  3. If anyone needs a bathing suit, I have a code for LE that can be used twice. Buy any swim top and get the bottom (or less $$$ item) free. Tops are around $50 so that's a good deal and I do like their swim. Great quality.

  4. I absolutely love the new KS prints out right now but man the tops are ill fitting this month. I ordered 2 blouses in the jardin print and they are so ill fitting - cut low in the arm holes so you see your bra or cut too wide looking like a maternity top. Such a shame and pretty unusual (I'm a huge KS fan and have lots of clothing). I might exchange for the jardin cardi which are usually smart buys.

    1. I love that print too and purchased a short dress from Nordstrom in it. The longer dress that my local KS store had was too large in the top and more church, wedding, brunch formality than I was looking for. The short one can function for all those occasions but can easily go casual with a denim jacket. I did need to size up in to get the hips to fit just right. The cardigan is just perfect- may need that one too!

  5. I've had a lot of success at Talbots.

First, the Flounced Fit-And-Flare Midi Dress is extremely flattering. This fits TTS. The dress is lined, always a plus, while maintaining a light weight. The green color is very pretty. My only negative is that I think that the dress would be prone to wrinkles.

The Island Life Shift Dress, also runs TTS. The fabric is more substantial on this dress. It was love at first sight if you are a big fan of prints. The print is fantastic and the print lines up at the seams - fabulous! I also love dresses with pockets. I wore this for Mothers' Day and was really happy with the look.

The Scallop Hem Shorts fit much better than others that I've tried. I also found these to be very flattering and thankfully, not too short at 5". The white was disappointing, with the see through pockets; however, I give a big thumbs up to the navy - very nicely done.

Finally, the Caribbean Postcard Skirt is very cute! I didn't purchase it since it's somewhat similar to the Island Life Dress, in terms of prints. A 19" skirt is not something that I would normally reach for; but it didn't seem too short. It would definitely be fun for summer weekends and trips.

I haven't shopped at Talbots in y-e-a-r-s. BUT - I am very pleased with their current offerings.

    1. I actually went into a talbots recently for the first time and thought the quality looked good. I tried the flounce dress in green which was lovely but the smallest sz (sz 2) was def too big on me. I'm usually a 0 or 2 in Jcrew dresses but the Talbots sz 2 was really big for me.
I did buy the flamingo print skirt in sz 2 which is a bit loose in waist but ok as it just sits a little lower. I'm very happy with the quality of it.

  6. Took a good look at Joe Fresh last night. Much of their current collection felt very Crew-like: a cute pair of red bandana print shorts, a blue paisley print they used for absolutely everything from bikinis to dresses to shoes, a lace-up dress (or two), and even a LemLem collab.

  7. I happened by the Coach outlet today and saw their collab with Disney. I'm a lifelong Mickey Mouse fan and fell in love with the scarf in the collection. I'm not a Coach shopper and know nothing about their promotions, collections etc. The whole store was 50% off for Memorial Day weekend, but I don't know if this is standard for Coach or not. Can anyone help me with strategy? It's an expensive scarf and 50% is the max I would pay for something like that, but is it the best I can do? It seems like the collection launched recently.
