Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

    1. JSR, thanks for the heads up and thank you, Mygoddy! Having a bad day and a new style guide always makes me smile. Why do I feel the urge to make a fruit salad now?

    2. Thanks, Mygoddy. I'm happy to see that there are more tops offered in Tall, but unfortunately, I really don't like any of them. Hopefully, somebody else will. I think maybe they need less rollouts. There are so many repeats. I love looking at new clothes but when you see so many repeats it makes you wonder how they will sell all of it.

    3. Where's Carmen Miranda? I feel like she should be jumping out of that catalog between all the ruffles and the fruit! Yuk!

    4. Thanks for posting.

I have to admit, I am not impressed.

Is it just me, or does all the clothing look so flimsy? I can almost see the holes in the seams forming already. And the wrinkles. Instead of looking easy, breasy, it just looks see through and cheap.

    5. not liking ant of the new prints....they should go the the archives and reissue the old ones. but they obviously are not hearing us on any of the new releases...like over doing the off the shoulder and way too short dresses.

    6. Ha...Carmen Miranda indeed! I like color...but huge pineapples on everything? Pineapples, lemons, flamingos, palm trees....is this more of creating a fantasy JCrew world? I totally agree with Unknown...I just stalked and snagged a Madras JCrew blazer on ebay. I'm looking more and more to ebay for the older prints. I even had a conversation yesterday with a store associate about this subject because I was wearing an old print and he commented how he wished the Crew would reissue it. Agree with everything said here...the clothes look like something I'd sleep in. I'm hoping there may be a hidden gem in all of this fussy, cheap stuff.

Thanks @Mygoddy for sharing the guide. Always fun to see and I appreciate you taking the time to post it. I hope you have a great trip!!

Is the new roll-out next week?

    8. Blakemdjohns, so true about the fabrics. If you can tell from a photo of a photo that the garments are draping oddly, don't hang right and appear wrinkly/cheap, it's obvious the quality and construction are going to be really sub-par. You can get these "looks"'at F 21 for $15.

    9. Kinda over the fruit thing... I adore my lemon and watermelon tees from past rollouts and so many JCAs are rocking that lemon cardigan, but I'm looking for some more sophisticated pieces that I can incorporate into my wardrobe (and maybe dress down with my fruit items!). What I don't need is to be wearing my refrigerator on my body. Saw maybe one item from the catalog that interested me. Oh well.

PS anyone else wondering why they didn't bring back the chateau trench this spring? I would have bought one in another color; maybe a robin's egg blue 😍

    10. You're welcome! Happy to help! @maryeb, thanks for the well wishes! Patiently waiting at the airport now.

Went to store this am for returns. Like the gold metallic flat with the navy ribbon but my feet said no. I did try the metallic gold sandals with navy ribbon after seeing them on an SA & decided to keep. Did make an online order of Net A Porter silk stripe shirt. Multiple sizes popped back this morning. Have wanted to try it for a while & it's now on sale.

    11. The off-the-shoulder style is so tired. So Carmen Miranda indeed! That's not how I perceive J.Crew and I don't think that how they do either. So, let's clean up the fad and offer timeless styles like they have done so well in the past.

  2. I might visit today for a few returns but posted my review of the high waisted wide leg canvas pant on IG @wearthislikethis. I received several other army, olive green pieces including shorts and chinos I will post later today as well.

  3. I got an email about an event Saturday... See new arrivals and make your own cards, etc... I have a return and had already planned on going this weekend so I guess I'll go Saturday to check it out. If only I had my rewards card :/

  4. I stopped in yesterday and bought the boyfriend chino in green. I really like them. Only one tiny hole on the 5th pocket, so that didn't bother me.

    1. I got those too. Love the color. Deciding on fit. My regular size works but I also ordered a size up which is arriving today. Not sure which I will find more useful, these or the high waist cotton canvas pant. I think the high waist ones are more flattering but the wider leg makes them more of a look, whereas the chino is just simple casual wear.

    2. Hi Suz, I tried two sizes. My smaller size fit fine and the associates said they looked good...even though I felt they hugged my rear a little too much. The 6 fit the way I want these kinds of pants to fit...not baggy, just a tad looser. Going to a size up didn't make any difference in the way the pants legs looked or hung, but gave me a bit more room in the rear. The associates said they wouldn't stretch too much. And I hope they know that for a fact. Hee. I don't want them to bag out and have me wishing I bought the smaller size!!

      Delete
    3. The larger size definitely doesn't do me any favors. Have to try the smaller one on again. The legs seem really wide, but maybe it's how they come cuffed.

  5. Following up on my jeans search. Thank you everyone who suggested Madewell. Yesterday I tried the Perfect Summer Jean and the Slim Boyfriend. Finally a garment that deserves it's name! At least for me. The Perfect Summer jean fit like a glove on me. I tried on a 29 but the associates told me to size down. The 28 tightened them in all the right places...namely the crotch and waist. I never buy light wash jeans, but the Fitzgerald wash is very light and I actually like it! Also like the fact that there is no whiskering. They are long/high waisted and have very little if no stretch, which will take some getting used to. I like them because they incorporate a vintage feel without looking dated. I also ordered them in white. The Boyfriend Slim jean, which on me fits like a skinny jean, came home with me, but I returning them. Nothing wrong with them, but I like the Perfect jean better. Also found out something very cool. If you take an old pair of jeans in when you purchase a new pair, Madewell will give you $20.00 off the purchase of your new jeans. The old jeans go to making insulation for housing. And they can do it in a 7 day window as a price adjustment. Also....I mentioned in my current fashion dislikes rant vintage Mexican inspired embroidered tops/dresses. I actually love the look of these...I'm just annoyed they never look good on me....well, I bought one of those tops at Madewell! It's the Embroidered Blana top. I bought red. I've tried on a lot of this style top but there is something different about this one. I'm not sure what, but I loved it the minute I saw it. I'm wearing it to a Cinco de Mayo celebration tonight.

  8. Is the consensus here generally that the first big spring rollout in Feb was generally the best so far, with the cute (ruffle-free) versatile jumpsuits, the embellished jackie cardigans, and the PBW tie skirts?

Thanks to mygoddy for posting the pics of the style guide. I am reminded of the article from the New Yorker that someone posted a few days ago. JC is trying to project a lifestyle that exists in an alternate reality where real people are absent. The copy for one of the sundresses says, "Ever meet some friends for a bite to eat at noon and somehow end up on someone's roof at 9 pm?" The answer is no, I have not, I actually have a schedule and stuff to do. But if I lived in that reality I'm sure the sundress, and a diver-embroidered Tippi, would be great.

    1. They show 2 models wearing merino wool Tippis with bikini bottoms...in what weather system/life situation would those ever be the combination you'd need?

      Delete
    2. Oh my gosh...you gals are giving me the giggles! That quote about meeting some friends for lunch and ending up on someone's roof at 9pm" makes me think "like, I drank 7 cocktails at lunch, passed out, my "friends" then left me at someone's place and I woke up not knowing where I was 9 hours later!"....holey crap! What kind of message is the Crew sending? Do they even think for one minute before they publish this stuff!?

      Delete
    3. Alyssa, I noticed that too and have the same questions. I live in the South and have already pretty much written off wool until Fall/Winter. I guess it looks cute but def doesn't make sense.

      Delete
    4. LOL, yes...I mean, if this was an editorial photo shoot I wouldn't question the combos, but presumably a style "guide" is supposed to suggest how to style things? Though weren't Uggs originally invented for surfers? So ya' never know...

  9. Went to the Copley, Boston store at lunch to make a return. So quiet - maybe three other people in there. Returned three things that were not quite right and got the eyelet button up shirt in white, which was 40% off plus I was able to use my 15% card so it was about $35 in the end. I wouldn't have been willing to pay more than that, and I doubt this will last longer than one season, but I do love the lace pattern on the hem.

  10. I would appreciate feedback from the JCAs on the cotton Martie windowpane pants vs the cotton Marties (bi-stretch) vs wool Marties (bi-stretch). I previously asked JCAs about the sizing of the windowpanes. Thanks to the great feedback I got, I did size down to accommodate "stretch through wear" and the pants have worked out great. This made me want to try more Marties. What a strange experience it's been. First I tried the wool bi-stretch ones and the fit seemed different from the windowpane ones. I tried a few sizes - regular and petite, and have conceded that they are just not for me. Now I am trying the cotton bi-stretch ones. I noticed that the windowpane ones are 96% cotton and 4% elastane but the bi-stretch cotton ones are 52% cotton, 41%viscose and 7% elastane. I wasn't able to get the same size as the windowpane but I bought a size up and (once again) it fits OK right now but am concerned about stretch through wear. Should it stretch more or less because of the higher amount of elastane?

  12. No store visit for me, but I did manage to find a great price on five pocket chinos. Over 70% off is great for me, but these sales must be tough for the company. I also have two packages enroute that were swinging deals.

My big fear is that the constant sales and promotions is devaluing the brand. More and more J.Crew has become like BR and The Gap with the merry-go-round of promos and sale items. They've trained us to wait a week (sometimes less it seems) for a price reduction or markdown. Eventually they will be giving the stuff away.

I fear for my favourite place to shop; and that they soon maybe no more.

    2. Agreed, jcrew guy. I won't pay more than I'm asked to, but I often think about how much the company is now losing each year, especially when I get a grew deal. There are so many factors, though... I hope they can turn it around, of course.

    4. @JSR I'm worried. It most likely won't be felt till spring 2018 and beyond but he leave a big void. Hope the design team is up to the challenge.

  13. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. The Crew is telling it's customer through the constant sales and promotions that they do not value their own worth or that of their products, thus creating the very outcomes they prophesize by their actions. Decreased profits, increased debt and customers who have been taught to also believe their products aren't worth full price. If they keep on this self destructive path, they will prophesize themselves into bankruptcy.

  14. I stopped in on Thursday night to return some things and drop off a few items to be altered. I did try on a few of the new arrivals. I caved and bought the vintage straight jeans in patchwork - that 2% stretch really sold me and I think the Madewell ones are going back.

I posted photos of my try-ons and finally got around to posting one of my recent online orders - the neon fuchsia tweed pencil skirt, striped tie-waist top and the tall navy lace up shirt dress (pics way overdue I know someone was asking about it!). Store try-ons include the tulle short sleeve Tippi, tie neck top in oxford cotton and the tie-waist skirt in seaside floral.

  15. Popped in this morning for the "event" going on ... seem to be featuring dresses and offering cookies. Greeting card giveaway w purchase - they looked cute but my in-store pickup didn't qualify.

I always love that "hit" of color you get when you walk in the store, but all the ruffles and fruit and OTS are just overwhelming to me. Looks like a boutique on a cruise ship. Many items were wrinkled and that may just be the fabric or a rush to get everything on the floor for the event.

There were quite a few people in the store, which was nice to see.

  16. I bought the A-line dress in vineyard jacquard - and it was stunning on me - kinda blah on the hanger. Highly recommend it - my store was quite busy and humming. I also purchased the eyelet shirt dress - in navy. I think I'll wear it all summer - so versatile. JCrew is really hitting it out of the park on their dresses this season. 1. I was thinking about how this deal is relevant to J Crew! Business of Fashion article today noted that all mid tier mall brands that are heavily discounted are obviously struggling. Coach is counting on KSs appeal to millenials.

Wonder if this type of consolidation will hit other brands. Kind of a classic move for mature, overexposed businesses and that describes a lot of retailers these days.

    2. As a huge kate spade fan (mostly the clothes), I hope this doesn't in any way change what kS is offering. 26. I went to my store today and returned a bunch of items. I am really trying to be true to myself and my lifestyle and I realized there were things I liked but that would see minimal wear, so I returned them.
Coincidentally today I read this and it made me realize it's fine for me to be happy living in my jeans, assorted black/white/striped shirts and skirts and add my accessories: blazers, shoes, scarves. http://www.manrepeller.com/2017/05/jeanne-damas-rouje.html

Unfortunately, two items I really wanted in store were nowhere to be found (black ruffle and black tie waist shorts) and my time was limited so I may need to order them online eventually.

I did come home with some new shoes which I've been looking at. Will try them on again tonight and post pics on IG.

    1. Sale in my store was 40% off. I bought just about everything I was looking at online FROM THE SALE SECTION, aside from the sleeveless ruffle clip dot top. I saw the striped version but not the black or white. I was tempted to see if they had the leopard pants in the back because I did try them on a few weeks ago but I realized since I still haven't worn my gray paperbag waist pants that as much as I liked them, i really don't need them at all.

    2. Good for you, Suz Has! I'm trying to be true to my lifestyle but admit I've been tempted by things that I probably won't wear much. I need to follow your lead and return some things.

    3. I'm trying, but still lots of work to do. But with two kids in college it's difficult to justify buying too many things just because they look pretty. Shoes will be posted on IG...

  27. many, many factory returns today. was shocked to receive rewards card - apparently the major returning has been taking place after the rewards have been computed. then the new cycle kicks off with a negative balance, then ... well. I thought i'd seen the last of rewards cards, EVER, but if JC can be mysterious, so can i. welcome to the closet, lovely suede jacket. play nice.

  28. A little snafu with my ship-to-store pickup today. Only one of the two items was in the bag despite the email notification that both were there. Two SAs spent 20 min looking in every bag and "in the back" as I stood there waiting. And waiting. They just kind of shrugged and said they didn't know what happened. And then they couldn't figure out if I should sign for the order or not and that became another 10 minute dilemma. It kind of had the undertone of "well if you had just paid for shipping we wouldn't have this problem, now would we?"

I've had lots of good experiences with shipping to the store but this wasn't one of them.

    1. Post script: got a call back that my second item is nowhere to be found and they tried to find me another but it is out of stock everywhere so they have credited my account.

Sad trombone. If my order had been shipped directly to me this wouldn't have happened. Something to think about if you select the store pickup option.

    2. My experiences with ship-to-store have gone well so far but I have been waiting on just this type of thing to happen to me...with that same undertone from the SA(s) and that same sad face feeling when my order goes missing. I can hear your sad trombone sounds from over here. Hopefully, the item will pop back sooner rather than later in your size and color OR it will show up and they will call you. But keeping my fingers crossed for us all that things will continue to go smoothly with S-T-S...at least for the most part.

    4. I really like the pick up in store option but there are a few bugs to work out still. I recently went to pick up an order and only one of the items had arrived. The other two items on the same order were in a backorder status. The sales associate had difficulty allowing me to pick up the one item that was in and had to call customer service to figure out how to do it. I had received a second email telling me that I had to pick up my order or they were going to send it back. Luckily they figured it out.

    5. Don't let them feel as if they are doing you a favor. Ship to store is a strategic move by JC to try to get more bodies in the door. They hope you will pick up something else to buy while there.

Maybe because it's raining AGAIN today in Portland, all the pineapples, flowers, pinks and cheery prints make me feel happier this morning. It seems the Crew finally has moved into their summer looks. And I'm happy to see it! Now we just need summer to move into Portland!!!

  41. This is OT but I'm hoping one of the JCA's here can help me. I'm looking for Madewell's Blanca top in blue. My local store only got the red colorway (they have the blue tunic/dress). The blue appears to be sold out online and the SA here said it was only available online. Have any of you seen the blue in-store? If anyone here has any leads on it in size L it would be very greatly appreciated!

Here's a link to the red one:

    1. Sara, I saw the Blana top in blue at the Madewell Store in Bridgeport Village Mall in Tualatin, Oregon. Here is the phone number:503-431-8657. I don't know what sizes they have, because I already bought the red version and didn't look through the blue selection. I saw the blue version last Thursday....Good Luck! I so hope they have it for you! Oh...and it's rather oversized. I took an xs and I wear a size small in J crew tops and tees. Talk with the sales associates about the sizing. It's meant to be a flowy top anyway, so you may be able to consider several sizes. Let us know if you're successful in your search.

  46. On the Pick up in store option... went to retrieve two orders earlier today and items were inside sealed JC mailing envelopes. SA said that it is their new policy now. As he proceeded to open envelopes and check items for accuracy, he explained that the reason JC decided not to bag STS is that they had occasionally ran out of bags to accommodate the volume of orders. I'd say this is better as mailing envelopes are clearly labeled .
On the email offer "early access to new summer arrivals" with 25% off.. I tried ordering before going to the store and as others found out, it didn't work. I explained to this SA , showed email and he placed the order ,honoring the 25% off . So definitely, call customer service. There is no special code on this email , just the invite to early access to new arrivals.

    1. I had a similar experience. This was my first time using the STS feature. My order was found pretty quickly, and after checking the contents, the SA asked if I wanted to try the items on right away. I thought that was really nice. Afterwards he offered to put them in a regular bag (which I declined because I had a large canvas bag on me anyway). I also had about 5 things to return, way more than typically because I tried multiple sizes, and he was super friendly about it. I've had pretty good experiences overall lately in my local. That attitude encouraged me to buy a pair of shoes in store that I had been eyeing (the cap toe Gemmas, which is a very good shape for me). So, the STS feature and good customer ser if is working :) The SAs were also patient during my toddler's 60 second crying episode. Very appreciated!

  48. This belongs in the vent thread so please forgove me but it's too funny/sad not to share. Had a terrible experience at my local store, I really hate that all my fave SAs are gone. I was looking at the new liberty floral dress and an SA approached me. She said it was the perfect dress for more mature ladies. I'm 35 and look 25. I felt slightly offended but brushed it off. Then I asked her about the item I was looking for and she said she never saw it. I turned around and walked 2 steps and there it was. They didn't have my size so I asked her to order it for me. She asked me the size, I responded size 0 and she looked at me and asked me "Do you think it will fit?" I am between a 00 and a 0 at J Crew so I thought so. She also told me I couldn't use my educator discount because sale was already 40% off. Understatement of the century, but I did not feel great leaving the store.

    3. Anthro Blogger....well, the issue here IS about maturity. Not in linear time, but in experience. This associate obviously needs some interaction with mature people...people with life experience. If you encounter her again, possibly it's meant for you to be a compassionate teacher. I'm thinking she just doesn't know any better and really needs guidance. If her manager doesn't recognize this in her, well, they should. But I wouldn't count on it. I'd hate to see her lose her job due to lack of guidance and teaching. God bless you for being kind to her. When I was young and not very enlightened about people, I worked in retail and it was hard. I've been hurt and humiliated by customers for mistakes simply because I didn't know any better....but I learned. Give her another chance and engage her in conversation and help her along her path to becoming a fantastic JCrew representative. Shape her into your favorite store associate! You will change her life and yours as well! Have a wonderful day!

  50. I finally caved and signed up for a J Crew credit card - JCrew has knocked it out of the park this season and I have already bought way too much stuff, and now I will at least get my birthday discount this month! I purchased the eyelet midi skirt in black today, the perfect T in gray, and the polka dot tweed dress and the lavender Going Places dress. They all fit wonderfully and the dresses will be nice work attire. I have my eye on a Liberty dress and hoping for the white embossed dress to go down a little bit more in price - it was very flattering on although I went down a size from my usual J Crew size. My birthday discount next month might be a nice motivation to pull the trigger on these two items :)
