J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. 9% cash back on ebates today, plus the same 30% off sale...

Has anyone seen COLLECTION RUFFLE TIE-NECK TOP IN RATTI® SUNSET CORAL MONKEY PRINT in person? I'm curious about the sunset coral color. I like the print and the style of the top. (With the percentage off and ebates cash back I placed the order for it, hoping the coral is more of a washed red and less orangey.)

    1. Suz, I tried the pants and I thought they were more in the orange realm of coral. The pants were a little flimsy so they were a return for me.

    2. Yup I saw the 9% cashback as well... so bit on a pair of SeaVees. JCAs seem to love them and I just had to toss my 7-year-old pair of Chuck Taylors that died from overuse, so $39.99 + promo + cashback seems like a good deal? (anyone who scored a better deal on SeaVees please comment!)

    3. That's a great price. Are they the navy stripe?

  3. New arrivals at JC Factory - a few cute pieces. They've brought back an old Hawaiian print from Retail (featured in shorts and an OTS shirt, I think. I liked the Tie-Waist top the best.)

Also, @Jan, if you're reading this -- check it out:
Flamingo tank top Item G4872 (I think I remember you saying that you're a fan of flamingos, as am I! I have more than enough pieces in my summer wardrobe for the fairly short warm weather here in NY, but this top is calling my name! :-)

    1. Re) Hawaiian print -- that should read 'shorts and an OTS DRESS, not shirt.' I also see it in a skirt.

I don't check JCF as often as Retail so some of these items might have debuted earlier :-)

    2. That Hawaiian print is so cute but I can't wear any of those styles. Ditto for the paisley print in Lime Pink Multi, if they'd done a pencil skirt I would have jumped on it, but a 17" mini is just too short for work.

    3. Hi TM93, that tank is really cute! I do love flamingoes and the price is reasonable so it's hard to pass up. :) I can't recall if I mentioned it but I recently bought a flamingo print skirt from talbots (my first purchase from them) that is really nice in navy and white cotton.

I like the Hawaiian print, wish Jcrew would do more prints again. Those styles won't work for me either but hope others can enjoy it.

    1. Thank you for the reviews, Anne! You look so much better in the flutter sleeve tee than the website pics! Your reviews are very helpful.

  5. Finally picked up my ship to store order including the tie waist poplin shorts, the ruffled shorts and the clip dot sleeveless ruffle top. I tried the items on in store and nothing was a love, but I brought them home to try on with better shoes, etc.

I wasn't sure I was even going to make it, since I got an email last night (right after they sent the email to pick up) that if I didn't get them in two days they'd be returned, so I actually ordered the ruffled shorts again this morning while placing another order. I like those shorts least.
The tie waist shorts have potential. I ordered a size up today to see if I like them better a little lower. They're also really wrinkly.
I like the clip dot top but it's hard to get off and I'm not sure I can deal with it. It's a thin cotton (which I love) but I'm afraid I might rip it.

  6. Many of the factory stores are getting in shipments from the retail distribution center this weekend of regular NON FACTORY, JCrew items that are currently in the catalog. The prices are completely unbelievable- think super 120s skirts at $20 and wool blazers at $30. This is a rollout JCrew is doing now every three months in many of the factory stores to help get rid of overstock or items that have been returned. You can also find shoes and mens too. They also just sent several tracker trailor loads of current merchandise to TJ MAxx so check those out too.

    1. So will they be there Friday or not until the weekend? There is an outlet about 45 min away from me but it's not open Sunday. I have Friday night free but don't want to waste the trip!

    2. Is this only at stores that are "Factory" versus "Mercantile?" I'm not sure if there is a difference, but I have a Mercantile store and it is in a non-outlet mall.

    3. wow....unbelievable. but I guess this is the new "plan" i wonder if Canadian factory stores will get this?

      Delete
    4. ahhhhh....my heart started beating faster just reading this! But I'd be surprised if the Canadian stores got a piece of the action, why would they want all the hassles of shipping the stuff across the border for only a handful of stores? Still, it would be lovely to see....

    5. I've noticed this in my Factory store in the past couple months. I don't go often but the past two times there has been a mobile rack in the sale section jammed w VERY old retail merch, mostly dresses and jackets. Last time I saw that shiny medallion jacquard print blazer and black flower camo-looking blazer, both from maybe 2011? So old I can't even remember their names and I'm pretty good about that. I recognized some real dinosaurs!

It would be great to find more current retail items at Factory. Thanks for the heads up!

    6. I saw the JCrew retail items in the Factory stores also. Thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. The Jcrew word can be read but the rest of whatever is on the tag is blackened out. There were quite a few more updated items (not necessarily the most current rollout but within the last couple of months) including several T. Mason shirts. The S.A. explained something similar to me, overstock items being sent to a more central location.

    7. I am going to a factory store to make a return tomorrow after work so I will report back.

    8. Excited to read this about Factory. Both of my recent trips to my outlet store have proven fruitless in terms of finding retail merchandise but I'm going to swing by on Friday to see if I have any luck. Thanks for the heads up!

    9. I was at my local factory store today with no luck on retail merchandise. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled though!!

    11. Suz Has, I would call ahead first before you made the drive. I came up empty Wednesday while making a return.

    12. I was told only certain Factory stores will regularly get these shipments from the warehouse so I'd definitely call. My closest store isn't on the distribution but the one that's about two hours away is on the list. So it's not every store :(

  7. I managed a quick visit to a store over the weekend, I had my little ones so it was a bit rushed. I was able to try a few summery items at least.
Vintage plaid boyfriend shorts- tried the size 2 (usually a sz 2 or 4 in shorts) and they fit fine but were a little higher waisted than I like in shorts. The plaid was cute and preppy but I liked the Sunday slim shorts from last summer better.

Oahu tee- the pink is very pretty and it fit a little slouchy in my smaller tee sz which I think it's supposed to but it was too short on me at 5"7". I could just tuck the front with my lookouts but couldn't really tuck it with shorts.

New vintage cotton tee- I love the yellow colourway so I really wanted this one to work. My smaller sz XS for tees fit well but slim and the sleeves looked ok. It was quite sheer though and with the closer fit my bra was too visible for me. The small was looser so the sheerness was better and I would've been fine with the body but the sleeves looked bad on me - very floppy or fluttery which some reviews have complained about. The yellow is so pretty though.

Tie neck top in Oxford cotton- the store had just received a 00 so I tried that and it was still a bit big in the arm holes. Reviews had mentioned sizing down, I'm usually a 0 or 2 in tops but because this is sleeveless I think the 000 would be best. I'm small chested so that's probably why there was gaping at the arm holes. The color is a lovely blue and it seemed like good quality. I bought it and will try it at home to see if the arm holes will be ok because I don't think I'll be able to catch a 000 online popback. Overall I love this shirt! I had a hard time tying the bow so I'll have to figure out an easier way.

    1. Great reviews, thanks, Jan! Disappointing about that yellow tee. That Oxford tie-neck top seems like a winner and I hope the one you bought works out for you!

    2. I love that top and hope they make it in other colors. (Black, cough cough).

    3. I think black would be amazing in that top!

    4. I said the same about the ruffle skirt too. I wouldn't wear that in a color, but in black it would feel more me, even though the style is far out of my comfort zone.

  8. Forgot to mention above, the muscle tee with sequin palm tree in the dark gray is actually so much nicer in person. The sequins are not as green as they appear online, more of a clear, irredecent and the palm trees are done in a cool brustphstroke. I have a million black sleeveless tops and I'm tempted to get this. My usual XS fit perfectly.

    1. I was so surprised at how quickly it got marked down to sale. Thank you for the review!

    2. Agreed. I admit when I first saw in online I wasn't remotely tempted, but it's kind of cool.

    3. I love this tee and was very happy to get it on sale. The sequins are more subtle in person, I thought. I posted photos on my IG (charlienvale) of how I wore it during the day (under a grey and white tipped linen blazer) and then for night (sans blazer and with black lace trousers).

      Delete
    4. Oh, I'll check. I am pretty sure I follow you. Sequins are so much more subtle. It doesn't photograph well, at least online. (I didn't notice it in a style guide, maybe because I haven't seen one.)

  9. Wanted to report back on the factory order I received yesterday. The linen cotton polka dot schoolboy blazer fits great in my normal schoolboy size. The quality is good. It has a striped lining. All in all very happy with it for the price I paid. Also got the Sea Side collector tee in my normal tee size. This is so cute and is not see through. You will be fine with a nude bra. I placed a decent size factory order on Tuesday when the new arrivals came in. They seems to be sticking with more traditional silhouettes and natural fibers which is working for me. Honestly the quality to me is no better or worse than retail.

  10. We hung out at this place in evening last week before heading out to our next destination. While we were there we found the service at venue New York to be quick and attentive. Probably because it was early on a Friday and it was still kind of empty.
