J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I received the new tiered clip dot midi. I like the tier at the bottom. I took the white back because I think last year's midi is much better (less see through) but kept the black and coral version. I also returned the gingham skirt. Although the specs states it is 26.5" it is nowhere near long enough for me. 25" is usually my minimum length (I'm 5'10) so I'm not convinced they have the right length listed. I also love the sailboat tee. Not at all clingy or see through. I also got a price adjustment to get the 30% off so I'm going to try he fatigue jacket, the pleat back jacket, and the fuschia lace up flats.

  2. There is a new (to me) feature on the website. If you go to your order history, you can select an order and cancel items. How do I know this? I had wanted the French colors sweatshirt in XS or S. Kept missing it and reached out to a stylist. Then I got the XS and stylist said they'd look for a S for me. Just got notification that an XS was ordered for me. Since I already have one (and it's getting returned) I don't need another and when I looked at the order I saw this is now possible.

I believe I mentioned the Point Sur trumpet flare jeans in washed black, but if not, they're amazing. The similar cut in blue is not the same, I tried. There is something about the fit of the black that works. I sized down one. Honestly the last thing I need is another pair of jeans but I tried them on again this morning and they're fabulous. Ema (crazy About Jcrew on IG) posted something a few days ago about only buying/keeping things that make you feel fabulous. I've been trying to stick to this andreturn a lot, but these jeans now have a spot in my closet.

    1. That feature has been there for a pretty long time...you have a certain amount of time (it's usually shown on the order). I wish they had "add to order" because sometimes I forget an item! Lol.

    2. Funny, I never noticed. Add to order would actually be amazing, since often I miss out on orders, while I'm waiting for something else to pop back in my size or an item disappears, etc, and often I make two orders in two days when promos etc change.

    3. @Suz Has, I've noticed that feature before, but only when I was in the middle of an exchange (also, in my case, it said I only had a small window to cancel - something like an hour.) What I'm taking talking about may be something entirely different that what both of you are talking about. Either way, I'll be sure to check it out next time!

P.S. Those Point Sur jeans look absolutely awesome on you! (I only saw the blue last week but they were perfect. You kept them right? I love the style, but I'm too short to wear them, would lose the flare if I got them hemmed.) Can't wait to see the black ones!

    4. I posted the black ones on IG a week or so ago. I didn't like the blue ones and didn't even take a pic. I wasn't sure I'd keep the black ones so not sure I even mentioned them, but I think they're worth it.

    5. @tm93 I posted the pic on March 17. I wasn't even dressed, I was wearing an old sweater and just threw the jeans on with a belt and two different shoes to try.

    6. Oh, I see now - I saw that March 17th post (& commented, I'm tatsy74 on IG), but I think I thought that those WERE the blue ones, rather than the black ones. These look so awesome on you! Like you were born to wear them. I'm surprised the blue aren't as nice, how disapproving! Is it the shade or stretch? Nevermind, just scrolled back up and read that the fit in back isn't same. Glad you found new faves!

    7. Oh, I thought you may have seen them, I can't keep track of who sees what, I feel like I comment on the same thing over and over and the same 5 people respond, lol. The cut of the blue ones was just different. They didn't feel or look the same, and the wash was kind of bright. If memory serves, the flare hit higher and it didn't create as flattering a line. (I wanted to like them because they were a bit less expensive!)

  3. I received the ruffle waist linen pant in leopard. LOVE IT. What great weight. Unfortunately I went by the item description online and ordered a tall, when I should have stayed with a regular length, so I returned. But I will definitely pick it up when/if a great promo comes along. The pants fall nicely from the bottom, and I got my usual size in JC bottoms and it was not too tight but also not too loose. Only issue is I don't know how to style it other than wear with a button down tucked in, because the ruffle waist is meant to be seen. It would be cute with a T-shirt but I am not a T-shirt gal nor would I wear one to work.

    1. Agree with your assessment 💯. One of the stylists at my store suggested wearing the short sleeve popover that's kind of drapey, tucked in, but I needed to size up in that too much for it to work. I was thinking a sleeveless shell (like a Jackie) would look nice, in addition to a more fitted button down. I would also try it with one of my many sleeveless tops from the past few summers.

  4. When is the next big roll out? Current offerings are a big snoozefest.

    1. Week of the 17th, per Ina, IIRC. There was a pretty, Kelly green, eyelet dress in a photo from the Concept Store that a JCA posted last week, looks promising!

    2. I'm waiting to see when all those sheer fabrics, tulle, and pom-poms are going to be released...

Yea the concept store; an IG user had a photo of a mannequin wearing floral shorts w an olive top and jean jacket which looks cute!

    3. Liberty print floral tie-on shorts

    4. That sounds really cute @JSR. Do you have a link? I tried doing a search but can't find the photo.

    5. How can I see the photos from the concept store? Who has them on instagram?

    6. Sounds like I'm going to be JCrew poor! HA!

    7. @bythelake, sorry, just seeing this now, but IG user avillasb often posts a few pix from her pop-ins to the Concept Store. Scroll down a little and once you see the mannequins, you've hit the jackpot (only a handful of sneak peeks but it'll allow you to see the next floral print, for example. (A few weeks ago, she posted pix from the upcoming rollout -- at the time, it included that Perfect Shirt in Leopard, which put it on my radar so that I bought it as soon as it debuted.)

  5. A few reviews from orders that arrived today:

-Sailboat tee - this fit tts, and agree with @liztriden that it's not clingy or see through. Will look great with various skirts for summer. My husband likes sailboats and approved of the graphic. Keep!

    - Drakes Elephant dress - this was a surprise love. I'm 5'7 and this is the first midi length that looks flattering on me, hitting just a bit below my knee. Colors are gorgeous. Lovely lightweight cotton with lining. Pockets! I don't usually do spaghetti straps - but the fit is good so will wear with a denim jacket, cardigan, or a tippi ( looked cute with an orange tippi over it to be a "skirt". TTS in my usual size 10 for dresses. Keep!

    - the long sleeved striped dress that everyone loves - I see why this sold out. Beautiful fit with darts and seams. The matching at the seams is perfect, the hidden zipper is well done. I took my usual size 10 in dresses. Keep!

    - chambray off the shoulder dress - this one fit tts (10) and I liked the skirt and the defined waist and the tie to cover it - but the off the shoulder with ties on the sleeve made me feel a little too Elana of Avalor. It could probably be worn on the shoulder, but that looked off on me. This is a return.

  6. New promo: 40% off "spring styles" and sale with TODAYONLY. I noticed that the newly released gingham and chambray off-the-shoulder tops are on promo, so they would be eligible for the additional 40% off.

  7. Some good 50% off items too like the cotton Jackie's.

  8. Just scored the leopard sandals that I've been stalking since the sold out so freaking fast. A few sizes available right now.

  9. Perhaps I have not been paying attention but I noticed a few new features on the site (or at least new to me). Paying with 2 credit cards (wow!!) and the ship-to-store feature is FINALLY working properly for me. Also, out of stock items disappear IMMEDIATELY...kind of threw me for a loop when my cart was no longer full. It would be nice if there was a message that the item was no longer available once my cart opened but I figured it out. Kudos to JC!

  10. I called this morning and had 6 items price adjusted that are now on sale with extra 40% off. Sally (the CS rep) was very nice and helpful. In a hot minute yesterday I snagged the sequined Jackie sweater in the goldenrod color. I didn't want that sweater until I saw the goldenrod color on a blog and then I wanted it! It popped up yesterday in almost all sizes and I got 30% off. Yah!

    1. I keep putting that same Jackue cardigan in my cart. I think I need it too!

  11. Scalloped Knit Sweater Shell - Fits tts and looks similar on me as how it looks on the model. Comfortably loose fit through the body, armholes are good (my bra is not visible). It's a heavier, chunky knit, which I love. Also love the scalloped bottom. The Madagascar rose color is a cool red, looks much better on me than the orangey reds that have been so predominate the past few years. Can't wait to wear it with tan, dark green, denim, white: shorts, pencil skirts, capris and jeans.

Dramatic-sleeve Sweater: Ina's advice on sizing down is spot on. I decided to go down two sizes, so the neck is still an open scoop, but my bra straps do not show. Body fits comfortably loose. It's a medium weight knit. Sleeves are a slightly lighter knit which allows them to drape beautifully. The Pale Sea is a pretty light blue. Included in the 40% off offer today. A great deal for a really nice, fun piece.

  12. I can't remember who asked about the chambray OTS dress - I received mine yesterday in 6p and am waiting for the 8p to arrive today for comparison. I think the 6p will be the winner. Love the softness of the fabric and the pockets. I believe the question was if you could wear it on the shoulder - for me, I think it works, and will probably default to wearing it that way since keeping OTS actually OTS is a pain in my behind ;) I'll post try on pics to my insta story.

  13. Lace up espadrilles navy with gingham laces- the gingham laces looked so cute that I had to try these. My usual size 9 is def too tight in the toes but I'm not sure that a size 10 would work. I'm almost always a sz 9 at Jcrew and sometimes size down but rarely size up so these were surprising. I see now some other reviews mention that they run small. The quality seems quite good though and they are really cute. Love the 2 pair of laces that are included. I have widish feet so these may be better for narrow feet.

    1. I want to try these in the cream. Ive been wearing 8.5 lately, even 8 in some styles, aside from the Lena pumps this year. I will have to go with. The 9 i. Suppose.

    2. Maybe order two sizes in case. The cream looks so pretty!

  14. I tried the off-the-shoulder top in Liberty Edenham floral in a 00. The sleeves are enormous in width and the torso is quite roomy. I like form-fitting clothes, but this top is also comfortable and made me feel I don't have enough girly clothes! The feel is comfortable and feminine- very sweet. I tried it with a pair of dark long skinny jean shorts, tucked in. That defined the waist and balanced it out. I'm leaning toward keeping this as I like the print and how I felt with it on.

Also tried the gingham cocktail shirt. I was expecting to love this (and not the Liberty top). It might be fine for work but it didn't really do anything for me. The fit was better than expected (not too loose), but the blue was darker than I anticipated (thought it might be closer to baby blue), and it's not an instant love. I will most likely return.

  15. I received the off the shoulder chambray dress yesterday...can we say "babushka!" Ha! Oh this thing looked so frumpy on me, just terrible. I'm sure it would be cute on a really young girl. Also returning the raffi print pencil skirt...it's nice but I didn't say "omg...love it"...it was just ok, chambray swing top...blah, wanted to love the green plaid Brit blazer (I think that's what it was called) it fit great in the shoulders and arms but was way too big in the body. I've lost weight, but my shoulders haven't gotten smaller so it's affecting how jackets are fitting me. I'll report in when I get the next haul from Mr. Brown Shorts!

    1. Thanks @Stray Cat. I have the chambray dress on my wish list, but now I'm not so sure. I'm not quite middle-age but getting there! I wonder if it could work. It's so Nic to have a quick, summery outfit, so I will probably try it when it first goes on promotion, unless my local store has it for me to try.

    2. Hi Sarah....To be fair to the dress...I don't look good in anything "boho" or "peasant" styled. I have to have classic styling with shape. I suppose it would just depend on your style. I was goofing around with one of the sales gals today that I've known forever and she convinced me try on the gingham off the shoulder top so she could see how it looked. Oh my....I opened the door of the dressing room and said "Anyone for mutton dressed as lamb? Don't the sleeve ties remind you of those cute little paper sleeves on lamb chops?!" We had a giggle over that!
