Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. 30% off for cardholders on Saturday for Earth Day. The email I received says you need to present the email, but I imagine mentioning the promo should suffice.

Another dress review -- Click here for the flutter sleeve dress in eyelet. I liked this one a lot in both black and in white.

    1. That looks great on you. Also, maybe because I haven't "seen" you in awhile but it looks like you lost weight.

    2. Ditto with Suz Has. You good great in those dresses!

    3. Hi Gigi! Great reviews, as always. I wish the 30% promo for cardmembers work online

    4. You didn't need to be a cardholder.

    5. Suz Has - I think my weight is the same, but I'll take it! Might be the pulled back hair

Shopping Celle & JSR - Thanks!

Jessica - Interesting. Thanks for sharing that. The promos aren't consistent. Don't tell me I'm getting a special for being a cardholder. Just make it available to everyone if that's what's going to end up happening.

    6. Yeah, with the internet and blogs/forums I don't know what retailers are thinking with inconsistent promos. I received an Earth day email last week that just says thank you for being one of our best customers, show email for 30% off.

  2. Ugh. I don't think J.Crew likes me anymore. I'm up at &#%! o'clock catching up on some work and decide to check out the site since I've got a couple of promo cards. First problem, no free shipping even though I've got a solid $200 worth in my cart. Fine. I go to check out and Voila!, an Error 500-Internal Server Error. After multiple tries on the ole iPad, I switch to MacBook. It all goes well except that now my promo cards show up as having $0.00. What!? #%!*. Order has already gone through. Now I've got what's looking like a hair-pulling call with CS. Lovely start to a Friday all around.

    1. @D*ska, oh no!!! So annoying, what a headache! I hope things get resolved for you quickly. If it redeemed your promo cards, I would double check the credit card used to pay (no doubt you already did that!) since it seems like some kind of order went thru when the system said it wasn't working. Grrr. Good luck!

  3. lovely email from J.Crew telling me that I've been eyeing a dress I've never seen before and would never look twice at - a salmon-colored creation with a frilly peplum. Guaranteed to make me look like the center tray at a brunch buffet. On the positive side, maybe this shows that JC hasn't been monitoring my shopping and browsing after all...

    1. That was the dress one of the JCA's here linked to to point out the model wearing a pair of shoes with a satin ankle wrap. I wonder if you clicked on it from this site?

  4. Went last night not going this weekend most likely. I had a gift given to me and I returned that and got a plaid peasant top for an even exchange..gift was a boring greay t for $15 and I got the peasant top which was about 80 for 15...then I bought the chambray dress with ruffle top for about $25. I think it might be called Edie

  5. Sadly, the Eyelet Shirtdress is going back. The green is lovely and fresh but the fit is so off on me ... bodice and neckline so unflattering, waist too high, skirt too full and frumpy. Very haus frau. Unbuttoning the top helps but if you have a chest, it's tough to make it lay correctly. Disappointing, esp since the fit/fabric on my last J Crew dress purchase (vineyard jacquard) is divine.

    1. I knew it would look terrible on me...so I gave it a pass.hope some JCA's love it.

    2. Mine is arriving in store today so I'll swing by to pick it up and try it on....and most likely return. It's funny b/c the dress didn't look so full in the skirt on line, but now that everyone is mentioning that, it seems more apparent in the online stock photo as well (the shot of the back of the model). How disappointing, I was prepared to love (& hem this one since Midis don't work great for me.)

      Delete
    3. Reviews on that dress seem to be pretty bad. I think a wide belt would help it. I totally like that retro vibe although it's not too practical for casual wear to have such a full skirt, it's still my favorite cut. (Personally I think it would look better with a collar.)

      Delete
    4. @Suz Has, I usually belt dresses in an effort to provide extra flair and contrast so I think a gold belt would work really nice with the green dress.

Mine went back today, however, and it wasn't due to what I thought would be my issue (higher waist - that wasn't an issue). Rather, it was the copious amount of fabric at the skirt -- even my trusty SA said the same. Lots of volume and fullness - gave me hips when I don't have much in that area. Also, the chest pulled slightly but I didn't even consider going up as that would've possibly added even more volume. The length in Regular was almost ball-gown levels, but I knew that going in. Not worth trying for a Petite. Agree with Suz Has that a collar would've balanced it out nicely.

I hope this dress works for others b/c it's a quality piece for the most part. I like that it has pockets and that the lining isn't a separate slip dress, but sewn on instead.

      Delete
    5. Sun Has, great point about a collar. I also agree it would be more flattering and balance the visual fullness of the skirt.

The fabric and color are lovely but can't make up for the cost-cutting misfire of the cheap crew neck and bodice construction.

It will look best on those with a tall, straight build and it was a steal at the "oops" price.

    6. Suz Has, sorry! I need my glasses!

    7. Me too, I didn't even see the typo, Ruffles!

I would consider that dress in white at the right price. (Cheap!).

    8. Mine arrives on Monday (I think someone from Lynchburg is delivering my package by tortoise) and although I am sad it didn't work for many JCAs, these comments give me hope. I love ridiculously full dresses (which I both buy and make, my insta proves it! LOL) and despite being a feminist I love the 1950s silhouettes. I'll post my review for tall and curvy as soon as I pick it up early next week.

      Delete
    9. I too am still waiting for mine but am worried after the reviews. I was already concerned about the waist being too high as that happens a lot to me with the dresses.

I did receive the gingham ruffle hem dress (had to size down) and the waist is great (not high) for me but the top of the dress is loose. My usual size was too loose in the chest (I'm small chested) and now a size down is still a bit loose. Truthfully I should return it because of that but I really like it otherwise. I've noticed in the pics on the product page that people post that it looks a bit loose in the top on others too. I can't win lol.

    10. @jan THIS is exactly why I started sewing, so I can either make my own clothes or do my own alterations. I realize that mass produced clothing gets cut in a way so as to save fabric and that often results in less than ideal fit. Plus, we all have different bodies! I love the ruffle dress and have yet to try it on, but now I must after your recommendation. I am fairly busty with a really small band size so I am hoping it fits well.

      Delete
    11. @Anthro Blogger, I wish I could sew that would be amazing! Some tailors in town closed and it's hard to find a good one now. I bet the gingham dress will fit you really well as there's def room for a bust. The quality looks really good, wish the lining wasn't poly but oh well.

      Delete
    12. I received my eyelet dress in navy (faster than expected!) in my regular size 4. After seeing so many negative reviews my hopes weren't high. I was pleasantly surprised although I do think I could take a 2 and really wished I had gotten the green. Going to call my store today but probably won't go unless I'm downtown for the Science March.

    13. I received my eyelet dress in green and really like it . I am 5'4" and like the retro look. I take a 0-2 and the 0 fit perfectly. The white would be nice, but i ordered the navy now in case the white is see through. Does anyone have experience with the white?

      Delete
    14. Ruby- I have tried on the white. Since it has a lining in the same color I did not find it see through. I did have a nude bra on while trying it so I am not sure about bright colored undergarments but suspect you would be fine.

  6. I'll be going with returns. And since the Crew doesn't have a red/white tee shirt this year I have to take the hike to the factory for one. I've searched everywhere with not much luck except Old Navy and they are just cheap crap.

Sigh, I don't understand how this happens with every item I have in my cart, same story about a month ago. Even 5 days later the items were showing as available, but when I called CS they confirmed every item was out of stock. I hope others have better luck than me!

    1. I, too, was disappointed to see that they are back to different promotions for Canadians and Americans. No extra percentage off sale items for Canadians right now, but I think Americans are getting an extra 40% off. I've been seeing items I've been looking for pop back but I have been good during this period and not placed any orders. It's not that much in terms of dollars and cents, but, as they say, it's the principle. On the plus side, it's making it easier for me to not buy, so indirectly, I guess they are doing me a favour.

    3. Great article. As an economist it's very frustrating for me to shop online anymore because of the pricing games. (As a result, I do NOT shop at Amazon.) My #1 complaint with J. Crew is popbacks - I didn't want it the first time no matter how low the price was; now you make it disappear, then popback a week later, and I have to have it! Scarcity, I get it. It's all to the point that I'm just annoyed. Nowadays, if I see something I like, I decide my willingness to pay. When the item hits that price, I buy it; even if it's full price. Otherwise, price hunting online is a never-ending rabbit hole. And according to the article, you're only likely to save $15 for an hour of bargain hunting, which I assume is quickly diminishing for any additional time searched. The cost of my time and the headache of the search is no longer equivalent to the benefit of the bargain for me. Sell me cotton Marties at $89.50, I will always buy them full-price. No more games, please.

    4. However, if J. Crew could make some maternity Marties in 2T popback this week, it'd really do me a big favor. Hint, hint, J. Crew.

    1. Oh boy! That seems like the store maybe forgot to do something on their end. I just got back from picking up my (quickly returned) Eyelet dress and it went OK. 13. If I went to JC this weekend, I would have to complain about the merino Jackie cardigan I bought this Wednesday. I hand washed it in The Laundress wool soap and have not worn it yet. It was laying flat to dry. I went to put it away today and saw a dime-sizes hole in the arm. What the hell. I really can't be bothered. I hate going in with a problem. It happens too often.

  14. I noticed a lot of pretty new items are already in the sale section with extra 50% off (final sale) like the puckered gingham blazer and peplum lady jacket. The pom pom gladiator sandals don't surprise me.
There's also a tweed/lace top from holiday left in XL for $9.99 after % off if anyone wants one!

  15. Since I'm in LA, convinced the hubby that our daughter needed swim clothes to use, so we drove from Universal Studios-Hollywood to the Crew @ The Grove. I breezed through the women's section so fast, nothing caught my eye. I like a few things but mainly online. Maybe it's the styling at that particular store that I didn't like.

  16. I stopped in at both local stores. Tried the fringy lace dress at the first store, but need to go to the other to get in it black ( they only had citron which was pretty but didn't suit the business event I need it for). Neither store had the striped buttoned shirt that ties at the waist which was the other item I wanted to try. I did get the succulent plant giveaway and the setup looked really nice in both stores.

  17. OT - a few weeks ago I was lamenting an awkward tear in my go-to alley straight jeans. A couple people suggested seeing if they could be mended. Well - they are back from the tailor and she was able to mend! The hole is backed by a piece of denim, then the patch sewn in. It still shows some fraying but they are definitely back in business with a longer sweater for work, or as is on a weekend!

  18. Took the hike to the factory store and purchased 4 Studio tees, 3 of the boat neck 3/4 quarter sleeve striped tops, the navy/white midi striped skirt (it's above the knee on me...I'm 5'9" so I wouldn't really call this midi) the Striped Blazer on clearance for $35.00 and a pair of earrings. The tees are so much better quality than J. Crews! Love them! The blazer fits me perfectly unlike the 3 J Crew blazers I've returned in the last month. Everything was 40 to 60% off and clearance was 50% off last markdown. I'm pretty happy with todays finds!

    1. Stray Cat, I've had very good luck w Factory tees as well. I don't understand it but they are better quality than retail. Same thing w the Factory Anya leather flats vs. Retail CeCes. Anya's are my "commuter shoes" and they are 10x more durable w nicer leather.

It's inconsistent though. I find Factory sweaters generally inferior.

    2. Factory has been doing great blazers. Fun linings and nicely cut with darts. The navy tipped one has tipping around the whole edge! Am glad yo had some good finds!

      Delete
    3. I was so tempted by the navy with white tipping...but really didn't need it. But it looked wonderful! I love the striped skirt. Even the paper bag waist doesn't bug me too much. It's pleated and sewned down so it looks nicer than just a gathered waistband. The fabric has a nice drape and it has pockets...yah for pockets! Also the striped boatneck at the Crew this season is a big box on me. It looked terrible. The one from the factory is slimmer through the body and it looks great. I bought all three colors.

    4. @Stray Cat, that sounds like a great Factory run! Wish I had one near me here in NYC, but they're all over in Jersey.

    5. TM93, I used to have to drive about 30 miles to get to the factory store. It wasn't bad going , but returning to the city was always a mess. We finally got a new one in a huge mall just about 6 miles from me. It's really easy to pop in more often now.

    6. Thank you for the reviews! I'll have to try the studio tees! Did you find them tts compared to Jcrew tees?

      Delete
    7. Hi Jan, I bought my normal J Crew tee size in the Studio T from the factory. The fabric of the Studio Tee from the factory is more substantial... a little like the linen tee from the Jcrew. The Studio Tee has more shape and isn't as sheer (especially in white) as the JCrew tee (especially the vintage tee in white which I felt was very sheer). The Studio Tee from the factory has become my new favorite over the vintage tee from the crew.

      Delete
    8. Thank you, StrayCat! I'm def going to give them a try. I did buy the new perfect fit tee from retail which was a nice quality with longer arms though.

  19. Received my order today and here are my thoughts:

Eyelet dress in navy - this is a cut that really suits me, and I was so excited to receive it. The dress hits my 5'1" frame just below the knee, which i love. The dress is perfect at all but the bust in my normal size. I will either have to choose a different bra to wear or leave the top few buttons undone to avoid pulling and gaping at the bust. If I sized up, the rest of the dress would be too large. I'm pretty sure I'll keep this one, unless an alternate undergarment still does not allow it to be buttoned.

Salut tee - ordered a medium and found the cut to be how I like to wear my tees: slightly slouchy. This is cut similar to the merci beaucoup tee, but perhaps a smidge smaller. The color is beautiful. This is a keeper for me.

On island time tee - oh my word, this runs small and short! The tee overall is super cute, but I may need to compare the medium I have with a large. Otherwise, it may work with a high waisted jean or a midi skirt for me.

Made in the shade tee - this one is linen and while not as large as the sailor tee in my normal size, it still runs large. It is cute, but ultimately not for me.

Waiting for the lace up dress is stripe to ship. I'm really hoping it works!

    1. So glad the lace dress worked for you! I can't wait to get my Salut! tee. I ordered the merci beaucoup tee...but unsure about the color. It seems so "un-summery" to me. It might look nice with navy though.

  20. A question and some reviews:

Has anyone received their rewards card? It said mine was mailed on April 2nd, still hasn't arrived, and the website this morning said rewards had to be used by the 29th.

Eyelet Dress: I ordered this in green and navy. This is a keeper for me! It does have more volume than expected, but I love it. The navy is nice too, but the vibrancy of the green is tough to beat. My nitpick is that eyelet over the chest area isn't lined so I'll have to wear a camisole or jacket to wear to work.

Elliot Heel in Liberty: These are a love. The colors are beautiful and the heel height is manageable. I did size up to my bigger J.Crew shoe size and am glad I did. The toe box is pretty narrow and it would pinch if I went half a size down.

Factory pom pom flats-These are also adorable! I took my bigger size (I find Factory shoes run 1/2 size smaller) and they are a little loose. The back did rub a bit, but I'm hoping that'll ease up.
Tons of compliments about these shoes.

Factory sailor pants: I really like these, but they are so long and the gold buttons were a little much for me. They fit well, but needing to get them hemmed and only picturing myself wearing them once in a while made me return them.

Lemon bandana and perfect tee: The bandana is darling and pairs so well with the striped perfect tee as shown in the style guide. No strong feelings one way or the other on the t-shirt.

The spring ones that were mailed about a week or two ago will arrive early to mid June. 1. I took my regular size. They were a tad loose around the waist, but not enough to size down. I went back and forth about the navy ones, hope they work for you!

Also forgot two skirts from Factory:

The cargo pocket skirt that another aficionada mentioned is a great basic. I bought the green and am considering other colors.

The multi stripe (similar to retail's candy stripe from last year) was not a keeper. My own fault though as I thought it would be more like their striped midi and it is a lot shorter, which the description did say. Whoops!

      Delete
    2. Thanks! Like you I'm not sure I would wear those pants enough to justify the space in the closet. I just bought a pair of red cropped sailor pants that I think will go back too. I love the style though!

  23. Received my recent order yesterday and the Salut tee was a disappointment. Slim fit description is wrong. Fits loose and boxy and I don't think sizing down will make it work for me. Too bad since the color is a gorgeous blue/purple and it's 100% cotton.

The liberty Thorpe ruffle top is beautiful with vibrant colors. It also fits large so I am keeping the smaller size from my usual petite size.
