Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Two things re: Boden.

    1. In a few short hours, they will end their current diminishing discount of 20% off with free ship and returns. Tomorrow morning the prices go to 15% off. That's okay, especially if it is a long-wanted popback, but for items that aren't popbacks, receiving the better deal is clearly preferable. I wrote about the discount here.

    2. I had planned to have all my Boden Fall 2014 picks posts done by tonight, but, life. :-) So I have two for you all, one which showcases my faves from the skirts/dresses/tunics , and one which is for the tops/shirts/knitwear . If I get my act together I will get the coats/accessories/shoes post done tomorrow.

The 20% off for the Autumn Preview ends on Friday, so be aware of that if you want to order early.

  2. Banana Republic's Marimekko collab is officially out today. I love the love the look of the Kivet pieces and just ordered all of them to try out. If you have a BR credit card, MMK25 gets you 25% off the collection and 40% of all other merchandise.

PS: the fine print says a BR card must be used as payment but I think a Gap card or Old Navy card may also work with the code.

    1. D*ska - I'm so glad I ordered last nite. The dress I like is gone. There were 25 pieces and now there are 14 available. It's going fast.

    2. Gigi, I had a strong feeling that the collection would be popular so I ordered at 12:01am EST. I stubbornly waited until the actual release date so that I could use the 25% off. That meant that I had to call several large stores this morning to locate what must have been the last Kivet Patio skirt in the country. lol.

    3. D*ska - I also waited until the coupon code would be good. I think the patio skirt would look ridic on me. Congrats on finding one! Thinking about looking for the knee-length one in-store.

    4. I didn't order online b/c BR generally doesn't fit me regularly but I'm glad I had a chance to stop in today -- stock is crazy low! The store I went to said more than half the stock was spoken for before the store even opened by online reservations and calls. I ended up getting a blue/green/black dress, large dot shorts and shorter skirt, which was knee length on 5'2" me, and two of the halter-ish tops. All definitely cute. The speed of the sales reminds me of the target-liberty rush...

    5. Gigi, I'm hoping that it won't look like the skirt is wearing me because I've got big plans for it. I'll admit, this would be my only calf length skirt but the print and styling really got to me. I'm thinking a graphic printed white tee and bright pink satin pumps would really make the skirt pop, if it doesn't swallow my almost petite frame. Fingers crossed.

AudreyS, I got my Kivet patio skirt by reserving in-store in CA (I'm in NY) and calling as soon as the store opened. I did my own searching on the website because I knew the SAs would be overwhelmed. Now I'm happy that I also got the shorter dot skirt to also try since I only have two inches on you. I only did the Jason Wu Target collab and it wasn't so bad but I know a lot of BR customers are steaming mad that things sold out so quickly. The longer dot skirt is going for as much as $300! on eBay. smh

    6. D*ska, I knew ebay would be a factor, but I thought BR would have a ton of merch and it wouldn't be that big of an issue. Especially since they were releasing a code in conjunction of the release of the collection. It was released for sale on Lyst a couple of days ago, but again...I foolishly thought they had plenty of merch for all of the promoting they were doing + the code + Lyst. I'm still seeing ads onlinea and

You did it the very smart way. I wish I'd ordered the short dot skirt in tall to try. That was going to be my strategy for a longer look, without the volume of the patio skirt. I like your outfit idea which will be cute w/either length. I tried the patio skirt in stripes (BR) and it was like wearing a curtain. I don't know if Marimekko cut it a bit different or just provided the fabric for that style. Be sure to give a report! :)

  4. Just a heads up for Canadian Madewell shoppers: it looks like Madewell is now charging "duty and related tax" (on top of regular PST/GST) to our orders, when previously this was not the case. Just went to place an order for 2 pairs of jeans, and the subtotal was $256. My duty & related tax was estimated to be $43.52 - which equals an extra 17%. I don't know how long this has been going on for, but it's disappointing, especially as this was done without notice. An email notice would be nice - or a heads up when you go to the Canadian site would have been a good courtesy.
