Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  2. like 2009-present amazing... I don't think I've ever seen so many items in the women's sale section (1989)!

  3. There were some things in sale this morning that I don't even remember from their first time around. A lot were sold out already by the time I looked. Jenna and Mickey must have been cleaning out their closets! :)

  4. So crazy! Things from ruffles days and older!

  5. Okay, all I want to know is who picked up the plumage vest from 2009 on popback? ; )

Totally fun trip down memory lane ... if you do decide to buy, watch out for used Kleenex in the pockets!

    2. hi, silver_lining, I'm guessing it was probably someone who already has the plumage mini and has been waiting and waiting for a good popback to complete the ensemble.

  6. More added... 2049 in Womens at the moment (although not really, since so much is sold out). Crazy!

  7. I nearly lost my mind this morning in the women's sale section. I'm so happy I woke up late this morning. Otherwise I would have spent way too much.

  8. OT - I was a little miffed to find out this morning that people with PO Boxes now pay $8 for shipping from J Crew Factory. I had placed an order early yesterday morning on a popback, and one I got to the payment section of checkout the shipping flipped to $8. I thought it was a website glitch, and live chat wasn't available, so I went ahead and placed the order. This morning I was able to live chat, and here's what they said:

Raven B: Thank you. We apologize, for any confusion. We have recently updated our shipping options - our Economy shipping is now $5.00 and standard ground is now $8.00 this change was made to better align with our current process on jcrew.com.

Kate: but it still says flat rate shipping is $5?

Kate: and I don't even have the option of economy shipping when I check out

Raven B: Let me take a look at your order and see if there is anything we can do for you. Yes, our flat rate shipping is $5.00 but this is in line with our economy shipping option not standard ground.

Kate: is it because I have a PO box, not street address?

Raven B: Yes, that is most likely why as these orders will automatically ship USPS. I will see what we can do about the shipping on the order you have already submitted, one moment please.

For that order they gave me free shipping, but in the future I will always have to pay $8. I'm really disappointed (which I told them).

  10. My wallet is happy I wasn't up early. There are pieces here from at least 3 years ago. I think Mickey and Jenna must be having a garage sale today. Can't you see them running around slapping little price stickers on the merchandise before they opened the doors. Too bad they aren't giving garage sale prices:)

  11. I stopped by the Columbus Circle store yesterday (where I haven't been in ages). There wasn't a single new arrival that I was motivated enough to try on but I liked the double-zip sweater in colorblock (especially the elm indigo color). The sale section was 20% off (not sure if stackable with 25% off) and final sale. The red Kikis are on sale ($99, I think) and the salon mini is $49. They had quite a few of the scalloped dress in the blue color. HTH someone!

  13. I was almost late to work this morning perusing the sale...a lot was sold out and the one item I tried to purchase disappeared from my cart so I would guess they had very limited stock of those items. But...it was fun to look, 2000+ items was like Christmas!

On topic, I probably won't get to the retail store this weekend but I am planning on running to the Factory store.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I wonder if they are going to keep adding the oldies to the sale on an ongoing basis, maybe the warehouse is getting full. Strangely enough, I placed an order with the free shipping on Wed and part of the order shipped so fast that I received it in 24 hours, really weird.

  15. Still on the hunt for the factory French Hen sweater in xxs, preferably navy. If you see it in your travels, would you be so kind to let me know? My email is bankygirl at gmail dot com. TIA!

    1. Anthro Blogger, call any factory store and ask them to see the inventory. They are able to see which store might have it. Then ask them to do a charge/send.

  16. I scooped up the silk organza skirt in seashell from at least a couple of years ago for $36. They say it is "released", so we will see!

When I saw all the old skirts, I wanted to have a good sob - the last two years have been so underwhelming in that area...

    1. Lucky you on the skirt! I was so excited when I saw all the "old" items, but most were sold out. Like you, it really made me miss the good old days.

    2. WMM, I saw that skirt and immediately though, I hope Wendy sees this and gets it! lol!

  17. Looks like I missed out on some goodies. I recently started shopping at J.Crew (last August), so I don't know what the good old days are like, but some of that stuff was gorgeous, especially that metallic moss jacquard skirt!

  18. Wow, those popbacks were crazy. I was almost late to my dentist appt from browsing them although I kept getting ghost pages. :) I agree with WMM seeing all those skirts made me even more sad about their current skirt offerings.

  19. Would you believe I was "there" when the sale section flipped to 2,000+ items for women and I didn't buy a thing. Think I'm off the sauce ...

  20. Will be going to jcrew this weekend. Maybe picking up a cocoon coat (or two, ack!)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I forgot to mention that I really liked the moroccan stone bracelet IRL (this was one of my favorite new arrivals on the website). They ruined the necklace by adding the "fringe" but luckily the bracelet has no fringes and the color is TDF. On the other side the tassell necklace is a bit shiny-tacky but I didn't try it on.

  22. Picked up the printed sequin skirt on popback! I've been dying to try it forever and no final sale!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Would love to hear a review of the gilded paisley skirt from anyone who sees it in-store!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Also enjoyed browsing the sale section this a.m. The one older item I wanted (a trench coat) disappeared from my cart at checkout.

Finally folks on J. Crew's marketing and inventory team are using their noggins :). Often thought it would be profit wise to list older items online at end of season rather than sell them to resellers and sample sale purveyors. Not everyone has access to clearance stores or wants to pay 150% markup prices on Ebay either.

This morning reminded me of the 90's when I would receive clearance catalogs with my orders, of items no longer available online.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm so confused. Where the hell did all of those 3+ year-old items come from? I mean ... the Rolling Ruffles Tank? Are you kidding?

How odd that the sale section was infused with hundreds of these oldies this morning but inventory levels on current stuff seems to have tightened up A LOT.

Oh well, this is the crewniverse, after all ...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Wait, it just hit me. I just donated a bag full of stuff (including the rolling ruffle tank) to my ex-nursery school. JCrew has a team who is doing all the rummage and used clothing sales around the country and then they put it back in the sale section :-). In any case we are used to the yucky stuff in the pockets ;-).

      Delete
    2. Too funny, Ema!
I really wonder where this old stuff comes from. Are there that many boxes in the warehouse that no one has looked in for like, four years?! I was sad that there were no Eden cardigans, though. Wish they'd find a nice big box of them in my size in all of the colors I didn't buy. My favorite cardigan ever.

    3. My theory is that some old JC hoarder died and they went to clean out her Grey Gardens-style house and found a ton of brown bags and boxes and decided to return to sender.

I mean, they had high-heel flare jeans in the denim section! Alexis posted about them in 2008.

      Delete
    4. Oh no, Inow that you mention the high heel flare jeans I realize that didn't think of checking the website for the matchsticks in lived-in wash. They are "only" three years old ;-).

    5. I couldn't believe my eyes, when I saw the infinity cardigan in"bronzed twig" and the marked shawl cardigan from 2009 or 10 maybe!

      Delete
    6. Ema you are a hoot. Here's my theory on what will happen after the dearly departed one's merchandise arrives at the warehouse. "Why don't we reuse these old plastic bags for a new order. It doesn't matter what the upc tag says use it for whatever We'll send them a wedding dress instead of a blazer That way we can have a little fun with our customers when we give them the stink eye at the b&m when they try to return it"
I wonder what if any of these items will ship. Keep us posted everyone on the results from the popbacks as I abstained.

      Delete
    7. Lol you are all making me crack up! The sale section this morning looked like my Goodwill donations bags 2010-2012, complete with High-Heel Flares, Dolce Shawl-Collar Sweaters, and at least one cardi in Bronzed Twig :)

  27. A bit off topic but I placed an order this morning that totaled more than $175 before promo but that after the 25% promo was applied was $140, under the free shipping thresholds, but I still got free shipping. Has J Crew changed their policy? I feel that I used to get charged for shipping based on the total after promos were applied not before. Also I hate the economy shipping option. I've had so many problems with Factory orders that use the USPS to make the final delivery plus it takes sooo much longer. I would pay the $3 extra. Also what is going on with inventory? Aside from crazola pop backs this morning, the Glen Plaid school boy had a full size run yesterday and now is completely sold out in ALL sizes??? I was actually bite the bullet and buy it today. Ah well.

    1. I got an email today apologizing for the website trouble yesterday and offering me free shipping through October 30th. It says it will automatically be applied at checkout. I wonder if that is what happened to you?

      Delete
    2. I received the same email re: free shipping. Very surprised!

      Delete
    3. Ah maybe that's it. I don't think I got that email. I am a bit annoyed that it defaulted to the Economy shipping. When I did a mock check out after I placed the order it let me select Standard shipping for free. I didn't even think to check when I placed the order, but thought I would pass that along. I don't feel like calling customer service to ask for the Standard shipping.

      Delete
    4. This change is going to be a PITA, especially since they're not really drawing attention to it. Maybe Alexis can do a post on it next week?

Madewell has something similar - even though their site says "Free Shipping on All Orders", it's free only if you choose the Economy option - Standard shipping is $5. I don't know about other JCA's, but often if something is shipped via SurePost, UPS will deliver it anyway. There's just not any rhyme or reason (from what I can tell) if they will deliver or transfer it to USPS for delivery.

      Delete
    5. Silver Lining, I agree, that the change will be a pain. It seems that J Crew updated its shipping policy without any announcement or fanfare. Yes Smartpost usually starts with UPS and then transfers to USPS for final delivery. If I am paying for shipping I will fork over the extra $3 for UPS all the way, or I will add a ride along to qualify for the Standard shipping. What irks me on my recent order is that it qualified for Standard shipping but defaulted to Economy. I didn't notice the new shipping policy until after I placed the order so I didn't change it to Standard. Lesson learned.

  28. Oh, I missed the walk down memory lane--chaperoned a field trip today. If it was a JCA who snagged the Collection Embellished Shell in m, please let me know of it doesn't work for you :)

  29. Oh my gosh that was fun this morning!

  31. Definitely going tomorrow since my mom and I are having lunch and returning something to Nordstrom. Haven't been to my local store in three weeks, which is kind of a record.

On a recent trip to Vancouver, we visited the Robson Street store together and my mom got hooked on J Crew cashmere and the Tippis. I've created a monster -- her order summaries are as long as mine now!

  33. There were definitely great finds. Checkout with major glitches though...After inputting my cc info got the message that they were having trouble with that card, changed cards and order went through. Found out later that both cc were charged..Called customer support and was told that it was my fault but should see reserve charges in a couple of days.. Now let's see if order actually ships.

    1. Similar problem here! Got msg w "billing address" issue...tho cards have all been same for years. Changed from a Visa linked to check acct to regular credit card...and voila, both were charged. The annoying thing is that the card linked to checking froze $300+ for four days, as did the credit card. That is a JC glitch, not customer!

As for @ Ruffles et al, where does the stuff come from? At Spring warehouse sale in Lynchburg, I got items marked "H0 10" "FA 09" etc! I had to prevent myself from imagining the corner where it had been hiding--and took the things right to the dry cleaners. It must be hanging around the warehouse waiting to make customers smile....

      Delete
    2. Fair warning,
it seems this glitch is nothing new.. double checked my cc statements and previous order (Oct15) that gave me the same "billing issues message" to which I inputed new cc charged both cards. As per this am, reversal of charges still pending;(
I know this should be posted under venting but still, if I can save someone the headache..

  37. Just went to the retail store. Broke down and bought the patch pocket pencil skirt in navy. I've been waiting for that dang skirt to go on sale but it hasn't budged so I decided to get it with the promo. I have been jonesing for a navy wool skirt (pencil or A line) and was hoping there would be one with the recent rollout but since not I bit on this skirt. I also bought the Starry Night necklace. I didn't realize it went sale. With 20% off sale and 25% promo it came to $66. I had also been eyeing that necklace for a while. I tried on the boucle moto jacket and loooved it, but it's definitely not worth the $200+ price tag. It fit TTS on me. I was hoping to check out the Hughes satchel but the store I went to didn't have it. I also bought the Director dress in pin stripe charcoal this morning as part of the crazy pop backs. I have the Director dress in 4 colors and it is by far one of my favorite and most worn items from J Crew. It's a workhorse in my work wardrobe under a blazer and easy to transition to evening on its own. I typically don't like cap sleeves but something about the cut of this dress is so flattering. I hope J Crew brings it back as part of its suiting collection.

  39. I went to two different stores (Palo Alto and San Fran - Market Street) to do a return and check out new arrivals. Given how I raided the sale section this morning, I'm glad I didn't purchase anything in-store.

But the discounts are stackable in-store it seems. Sale items are 20% and will take an additional 25% off if you purchase more than $150, making your sale items 40% off. Both stores explained the discount to me this way, so hopefully you'll find it to be the same at your store.

  41. 30% off at my store p,us the 25% over $150...stackable and an additional 10% off for opening a card. I wasn't loving anything today...not sure why. I happened to be wearing my herringbone excursion and the SA told me they have gotten 100s of requests for it...at retail and they are considering doing one next year in deep green or burgundy. She also asked what I thought of tweed or houndstooth excursions...which they had been discussing.

Also...40% off at banana and additional 15% off for opening a card. They had a lot of blazers and sweater coats on sale. They have some really interesting textured coats this season so if you are looking for a coat...may be worth a shot.

I also went to h&m trying to kill time and noticed they have exact knockoffs of a lot of jcrew stuff for significantly cheaper ($13-$30 range).

This bag might be too big for me...having only tried the mini hobo before...if I don't keep it if anyone had this on there radar and want it I would send it to you...obviously at no extra cost as we JCA'S stick together and mine gain should be your gain.

    3. Unknown the blue is not quite a navy but it is close, I think a nice, neutral color. I actually purchased that bag and returned it because I have two other Brompton hobos- one regular and one mini- and just could not justify a third:) I love the bag. I find the regular one is a perfect size for me to use during the week for work, etc. It's not too big for me, but I like roomy handbags.

  43. Stopped by another store today. The sales section was a disaster zone. I didn't even bother. I tried on the Field riding boot in black. It's a nice boot but unfortunately didn't work for me. As I suspected they were too wide in the ankle and lower calf area. I have fairly skinny ankles and calves on the smaller side of average. Overall the look was not flattering on me. My search for the perfect black riding boot continues. Right now I am a little burnt out on the Crew. I think seeing all of those popbacks yesterday made me nostalgic for the old school Crew. I am sure I'll snap out of it. I actually ended up buying a few pieces from Ann Taylor, a cute leopard print sweater skirt and a black dress with a gold zipper up the front. I haven't shopped there in years. Also bought a black, gold and cream sweater blazer at BR. Both stores had 40% off most items.

I couldn't seem to find a Frye style in a sleek riding boot style with ( and here is the key) a zip up. Living in the Midwest I am constantly taking my boots on and off so I trying to hold out for a zip up. It's been a while since I checked out Boden so I will check them out. Thanks for the recommendation, Cate. I have heard of Ariat and will also check them out. The look I am going for is one of an actual Equestrian riding boot, so they may fit the bill. 2. Sigh. I knew this would happen. J Crew can't do a website update -- the quick look feature in this instance -- without it impacting their website product catalog. It's incredible really - I've never seen a major retailer have such problems with its website. You'd think they'd hire someone from Amazon or Banana Republic and keep it moving.

    3. It's pretty crazy...but on the bright side, you can still take a trip down memory lane with some generic searches. Like "jacket"... I think it brings up like, every jacket/coat they've ever offered, They have a page for the Alice sweater jacket from Holiday 2007. Of course, they're all ghost pages and some don't have any pictures, but a lot do - so you can see some of the good, the bad, and the ugly from the last 6 years!

  50. Went to the B&Ms and found that a number of the new items look much better in person than on the website, notably some of the jewelry. The Jeweled Fan Necklace and Moroccan Stone Necklace both pull off the African-inspired art deco feel very well and looked quite appealing; I was surprised. The Double-Zip Colorblock sweater in both the Natural Acorn and Elm Indigo looked sharp and edgy (love contrasting gold zippers in general); the colorblocking felt like it really fit and didn't look arbitrary. I'm having more faith in this rollout now!
