Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Just wanted to mention that I was pleasantly surprised at the KOP J. Crew yesterday. I thought there was an extra 30% off on sale items when, in fact, it was 40%. Ended up with the navy two-pocket tunic sweater..the M fits so nicely with a shirt underneath. It'll be a staple this winter.....my intent was to purchase the elbow patch sweater in navy, but the fit was so unflattering. Boxy, short in the body length and it just didn't look right. Too bad. Also ended up with a yellow Tippi that was on sale ..at 40% off it was like Christmas.

    1. How much was the elbow patch sweater in stores? I have one and i'm dying to get at least 1 more, but its sold out online in my size.

  2. Lots of new markdowns online this morning including the Collection jeweled cable cardigan, Liberty popover in Meg's garden floral, and Schoolboy blazer in chalk stripe to name just a few. There are several new promo-priced items, too. I'm working on the updated list of the new items, and will have it posted on my blog later this morning. :)

  3. in-store signage that I saw yesterday:

    * additional 40% off final sale
    * 25% off ballet flats
    * 25% off out of case bracelets
    * 25% off socks & tights
    * 25% off the always-on-promo tortoise hair accessories
    * 30% off denim & cords

    * drapey swing tee ($32.50 online) - addtl 30% applies online w/FALLSALE, the tee is on promo in-store, I believe the price is $32.50, addtl promo will not apply in-store

I only saw one 2nd cut & that was on the wool racing-stripe track pant, now $69.99 in-store for both colors vs $99.99 online. Review here. As Andrea/Life's Divine said, size down one. It makes all the difference.

    1. Hi Gigi--

Do you think that customers can stack these item-specific promos on top of the sale promos?

For example, I saw some Janey patent flats in the sale section yesterday. They are $78 after the 40%. Would the additional 25% off ballet flats work on this item?

On a similar note, it'd be great to hear if anyone expects that a greater promo is coming. Not sure whether to pull the trigger on these Janeys since they were on sale for $52 at one point this summer.

      Thank you for your help!

      Delete
    2. Amanda Lee - J Crew isn't into stacking. That's the general rule.

If the Janey flats are in the sale section, they would be an addtl 40% off the sale price & that's it. The ballet flats promo is 25% off, but not "an additional" 25% off. They mean 25% off regular price.

The Janeys went down to really low price, so it's tempting to wait. This is how I would think of it -- for myself. Would I wear them right away? Will I get a good cost/wear out of them? Let's say I expect to wear them 5x min. That's $15/wear. Is it worth it to wait for them to be about $20 less? And will they be wearable at that point, or will it be too cold. There's no snow where I am, but I don't like socks in cold weather or w/that type of shoe so temperature would still be a concern for me at some point.

      HTH :)

    3. Gigi, this is totally OT again. But I was wearing those Sam Edelman Jamary Oxfords today near Bloomingdales, and two fashion bloogers stopped me to take a photo of them! I had o share this with you.

  4. The Georgetown store had an additional 40% off final sale yesterday. The navy merino pocket sweater and the Geometric floral necklace were on sale (still full price online). They had all sizes and both colors of the tweed front merino sweater in the sale section. They also had almost all sizes of the double cloth moto jacket in navy in the sale section ($199 before the 40%). Loved this online but in person the fit was a disaster.

  7. Hi. i am thinking about ordering the viv metal toe cap shoes in steely grey since they are now in the sale section. I normally wear a 6.5 in the cece's. Should i order a size up? And has anyone seen the color in person? Thanks for your help and advice in advance.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I have 2 pairs of Viv flats and I sized up 1/2 a size for both from my normal size. I haven't tried cece's, so I'm not sure how to compare.

      Delete
    2. karenv - Rynetta of J Crew Is My Fav Store has reviewed a number of the Vivs. Click here to pick one. lol She sized up 1/2 size, as the website recommended.

I would do the same, given the pointy toe. Consider your foot shape. If it tapers considerably, maybe your regular size would work. If your foot doesn't taper, then size up. I discussed how my doesn't taper (2nd to last pic).

      HTH.

    3. Gigi: LOL, thanks SO much for linking to my reviews!

  8. Wow! That's a lot of Viv flats so I think I agree that I need to size up. Just hate that they put online only shoes on final sale when you cannot see them either. Thanks for your help Ashley, Rynetta, and Gigi. Huge fan of your blogs.

  9. My B&M had the silk sweatshirt (04012) on sale (still FP online) as well as the tie-waist tweed mini (03414). All painter boatnecks (stripes and solids) were $29.99 before 40%. The tulip sweatshirt (05952) that I saw was a hot mess - the entire front part was pilled...like it was stored next to a big piece of Velcro or something. I'm not sure why it looked like that, but beware.

The sale section was pretty neon, so if you're looking for anything bright it is probably on sale. Have a good weekend, JCA's!

Mine looks good but there's a little pilling on it surprisingly already. I really like this sweatshirt but will have to be gentle with it. Does anyone have one that they've worn/washed a few times? Am wondering how it holds up. Thank you!

  13. sort of OT, but has anyone else seen those "Snap a Selfie" signs in the fitting rooms of the B&Ms? basically if you take a pic and upload it onto instagram and share it with @jcrew with hashtag: #jcrewstylelessons, you have a chance to be in their future style guides.

thought that was cute and maybe those who are visiting this weekend can try it out ;)

    3. oh wow, i had no idea they admonished people in the past for taking photos. i often try on blazers/outwear without going into a fitting room and shamelessly take photos of myself in front of the store mirrors. the SAs always seemed super cool with it...

  16. I know we just talked about this yesterday, but for the people who were waiting on their orders to ship has there been any movement? My order is still "released" with everything "open" and I'm feeling let down. I was hoping to wear the skirt and one of the necklaces I ordered to a business meeting on Monday but now it will never make it in time.

Just an annoyance more than anything. Not a huge deal. But I'm a little surprised. I kind of wish I'd just tracked everything I ordered down in-store instead. I hope nothing gets cancelled when the order does ship!

    ReplyDelete

    1. I was suprised when that happened to me last week- I'm used to their orders being shipped out quite quickly. It took 3 days for my order to ship!

      Delete
    2. Roxy turtle, no movement on my orders either. I placed one on Tuesday and Wed. and they haven't shipped. This is really slow, I'm surprised.

      Delete
    3. No movement here, either - since Monday morning one of my items has changed price twice, and another one has sold out, popped back, and sold out again. This is definitely out of the ordinary for JC.

      Delete
    4. Still have not received my Factory shipping notice for an order I placed early Monday morning. Very unusual. Technically they have until Wed for receipt of the package since they considered Mon to be a holiday so they will probably have to expedite the shipping for it to get here by Wed since Factory uses smart post. Something has to be going on at their warehouse or some other glitch in their system.

      Delete
    5. I placed an order Monday from factory, and it hasn't shipped yet. Glad to know it isn't just my order that is super slow.

    6. ETA Just got a UPS shipping notification for my Factory order that I placed on Monday scheduled for delivery on 10/22 (so just within the 7 business day). I also placed a Factory order just this morning and although I haven't received a shipping notice yet when I looked at the order status in my account, it actually showed a tracking number so looks like J Crew may be back to its speedy shipping and perhaps this past week was glitch of some sort.

    7. I ordered an item from J.Crew early morning on the 14th, and I received a shipping confirmation around 6 p.m. the same day. I received my item on Thursday (the 17th) morning.

However, I live in Chicagoland, and my order was shipped from the Hodgkins, IL warehouse...which isn't very far outside the city.

      Delete
    8. My order also shipped from Hodgkins, IL (to Indiana), ordered Monday night rec'd Friday. That's actually longer than usual. Usually I receive my items within 2 days of ordering.

    9. Hmm interesting. I live in Chicago and did not know that J Crew had a warehouse in Hodgkins! Would be great if they had a warehouse sale:) probably wishful thinking.

      Delete
    10. Hodgkins, IL is the UPS shipping hub for the Midwest. There was an accident this week on the expressway; UPS truck split open and packages all over the road. Hoping it didn't contain any JCA packages! One of my Amazon packages never arrived from a Monday order and I am guessing it was on that unfortunate truck!

    11. I placed an order on Tuesday of last week...still "open" and not shipped...never have I seen it this slow....

    12. Shopalot thanks for the clarification. Yikes I hope your package arrives.

      Delete
    13. shopalot - Thanks for the info. I figured that was why my packages often show an origin of Salt Lake. Awhile ago, I believe, J Crew changed their UPS service so we don't see tracking info until the package is well on its way.

      Delete
    14. That's what I see too. I get the notice that the order has shipped but nothing shows up on UPS site for 2-3 days which is when it must reach Salt Lake, it is then 2 days later when I actually get the package. Thanks Shopalot.

  18. Just a shout-out recommendation for the Paneled Stripe Dress and Stripe Ponte Dress (the same dress in 2 colorways), online sale $59.99, not sure about stores as they disappeared from mine a while back ( the ivory/ blue version is on extra 50% off for $30 online). As a gal who often finds JC dresses too straight-cut, I have to say these two dresses are absolute faves. Sturdy stretch cotton ponte is sleek up top while the A-line skirt allows for hips. Both work well with tights and a sweater over top in the chillier temps. Looks like all sizes. Can't believe I'm the only one who's a fan of these, if they had more colors I'd snap them up!

    1. Thanks for the recommendation cagliari67. I've been holding off on the stripe ponte dress as I'm not sure I really "need" another summer dress. I too am a fan of the ponte dresses- both the tipped gamine and the swing ponte dress really work on me!

      Delete
    2. They are both heavy enough fabric that they will work with boots and tights in the cooler weather - throw a sweater or blazer over top and you're good to go. I fully intend on wearing them through our Great Lakes winter, especially the black. (I also love the tipped gamine, and have the Factory version of the swing ponte - when I find a JC dress silhouette that works for me, I'm all in.)

  20. Went after work today to Pac Centre (after a week filled with brutal meetings and umpteenth emails...I needed a bit of retail therapy). 40% of sale items: tons of shoes, sweaters and tees, a few skirts and pants. If anyone is looking for the houndstooth no. 2, they are marked $116 before the additional % off. Got super awesome service. I'm usually between a small and a medium-- the medium was very shapeless on me, so I sized down to the small, which I didn't think is boxy at all.

If anyone is looking for a size, the NYC SoHo store had a good range.

But since the 6 did not fit they called for me so I since I planned to order them in 5 1/2. But I was told that the black was on sale not the chester brown color. 1. No black - navy, boulevard green, cranberry punch, ivory (not sure what this color was called), and maraschino cherry which I think was released recently.

IMO, I wouldn't be surprised if some of these eventually pop back. They are all over eBay for some ridiculous prices ($225 for a factory herringbone vest!) and if they don't sell, these resellers may just return them to Factory. So annoying, but you may get lucky if you keep checking for popbacks.

      Delete
    2. I mentioned last week that I picked up a Herringbone vest from BR. For $98 and all the discounts they usually run, I think it is great. The website says it is poly but it is actually down filled. The ebay prices are crazy for the JC factory one.

  29. off topic: has anyone tried to machine wash a tippi sweater? more specifically the embroidered flowers one? if so, how did it turn out?

    thanks in advance!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I haven't washed the Tippi sweater but I have washed J.Crew's merino wool sweaters before, in cold water, and they shrink a lot. I would not recommend machine-washing that.

      Delete
    2. I washed my striped monarch merino tippi for the first time in the machine (cold) and the fabric where the butterflies are shrank (the rest of the sweater was totally fine). The store took it back no questions asked! I think your sweater is similar so I wouldn't chance it....

      Delete
    3. I machine washed an older Tippi (it was a light blue color) on the "Handwash" cycle. It didn't turn out well. It had wrinkles that wouldn't come out when I ironed it (granted, I'm not the best ironer, but...). I gave it away to Good Will or something. I also did this with a black Tippi cardigan and it shrunk up to doll size. I've learned my lesson. I'm sure someone more skilled at laundering could have figured this out, but I'm not skilled enough at it to try it any more.

      Delete
    4. I also made this mistake - I put a tippi in the wash and it shrunk and got super wrinkled. I'm going to try and steam it but I'm not sure if I can save it or not. I will not be washing any more of my tippis.

      Delete
    5. I would not machine wash J Crew merino. Something about the agitation causes them to shrink.

I have had good luck with hand-washing Tippis and other sweaters. I use a sink full of cold or lukewarm water and conditioning shampoo. Swish in the shampoo, rinse, press to squeeze out the excess water, roll dry in a towel, then lay flat on a drying rack. The conditioning shampoo leaves the wool clean and fluffy and I much prefer it to dry cleaning.

      Delete
    6. I hand wash all of my merino and cashmere sweaters. Dry flat and hot iron - they look just like new. It's a lot of work, though, and if you don't have the facilities for hand washing, I can see how it would be a total pain in the neck. I think there is a tiny bit of merino shrinkage but I always buy my bigger size in merino sweaters with this in mind.
