JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  2. SHOPNOW for 25% off $150 is extended thru 11/1. Says online only. Guess they couldn't think of a new promo? lol

  3. Anyone seen the Cate cami in real life? I love the iced lilac and can think of many ways to wear it, but a) are arm holes really big? And b) is it really low cut IRL?

    1. Hi WMM! I have it. I usually size down in J. Crew tanks and I did with this one too. It looked like a definite miss on the hanger, but it wasn't too low on me in the size down and I didn't notice any problem with the armholes. I could use some ideas for styling it, though. What are you thinking of?

  6. Good morning, ladies - can we talk footwear? What do you wear when it's getting too cold for bare feet (like, ballet flats/skimmers) but you don't want to wear boots yet? Would you wear a (thin) sock with flats? It's getting to be rather chilly here (read: not capri weather, JC) and I'm looking for some inspiration.

    1. If I am wearing pants, I like to wear my Supergas or Sperry boat shoes, which cover more of my foot and allow for a hidden sock for extra warmth. I have yet to try out the styling JC did with their cool Nike/New Balance sneakers, and I have yet to find a pair of oxfords that are flattering on me, but both seem like good options as well. With skirts, I'll wear tights with low-cut loafers or ballet flats. Sometimes I'll also wear my low-cut loafers with pants and wear a cool, patterned sock that goes with my outfit. My winter shoes are generally a half-size bigger than my summer shoes to accommodate Aldo terry cloth insoles, which seem to help insulate my feet a little when the temperatures start to dip.

    2. i don't know if these would be your style, but i LOVE my Minnetonka suede Kilty Moccasins... the suede keeps my feet warm, they come in a variety of colors, have a rubber sole (some of them are just suede soles... stay away from those) and they're affordable at $40. I've also gotten fleece lined moccasins in the past from Target. I think the one year i totally scored them for less than $10.

if you go the minnetonka kilty route, i suggest sizing down 1/2 to full size. i'm usually an 8 and i bought 7.5 with a little room to spare.

    3. I love my moccasins too...and if I'm wearing bootleg pants I've got socks on with them. I refuse to let my feet get warm. The J Crew mcalisters are also used. The wedge with skinnies, the unisex flats with wider leg pants.

    4. I have the same question...particularly when I wear the Cafe Capris or the Factory Wool Skimmers, as they are about ankle length on me.

  7. Hi silver_lining, imo socks go well with flats. Actually I have seen girls with knee-high thin socks and flats or pumps and they looke dgrea but not sure I could pull that off. Re shoes, i'd say close-toe shoes (flats and all those low-heeled JC valentinas and such)

  8. By the way, I tried the scalloped shirt with the plaid/gingham grey skirt and they look great together. I was having a hard time pairing the green scalloped top but I think it worked out.
