Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I might go to the Factory store to make a return. I'm not sure about retail. But of course I drive by the mall on the way home from Factory so the car will probably exit the freeway whether I steer I that way or not.

PeasandCarrots mentioned that you can use your Factory coupon in-store on top of the 40-50% off. The tiered one that's that is good for 30% off of $200 as the top tier. Anyone know what the email title was? I can't find mine.

    1. I found the email title:

    2. Was this a unique code? I didn't receive an email.

    3. "the car will probably exit the freeway whether I steer I that way or not"

Funny, I drive by a J.Crew containing mall every day on my way home from work and my car seems to do the same thing several times a month! Funny how that happens :)

    4. Natalie - The email title is "3 sales + double points = a full closet."

Within the email are 3 separate one time use codes. 10% off $75+, 20% off $125 & 30% off $200+. You can also present the email in-store to use.

      JCrewJD - lol

    1. Well, no, it'd be up to 65% off if an item is 50% off and then you use your 30% off coupon. But still, a really good deal!

  4. I went last night, so probably not, unless my husband wants to go to that mall over the weekend. I got the Merino scarf sweater when returning a pair of chinos I didn't want anymore.

  5. If anyone is going and is looking for a bag...I highly recommend the biennial hobo in henna. I ordered this during the bag bonanza promo and it did not disappoint. I have been looking for a fall bag and this one is great. I have gotten a ton of questions on where I bought it. The side pockets work exactly as stated in the description...you can get a lot of stuff in there...and can't see it from the outside. Another thing I had never even thought of before...the pulls on the zippers actually snap onto the bag..so they aren't flopping around and getting damaged. This is one of the few purchases lately at I felt was absolutely worth the money.

    3. I just started shopping at Madewell 2 years ago, and I make a decent amount of on-line purchases. I also subscribe to their e-mails. I have NEVER received an on-line code from them. So I emailed customer service, just to see why this may be the case...I was very curious! This was the reply:

Thanks so much for contacting Madewell. I’m so sorry to hear you’ve not been receiving our more recent coupons and promotions. While there is no specific criterion to these efforts, we are always looking for new ways to thank our loyal customers.

Customer satisfaction is very important to us – I’ve forwarded your comments to our Leadership and Marketing teams. We are always looking for things we can do better and really appreciate hearing from you.

One way to be sure you get the best deals on Madewell items is to sign up for Madewell emails – that way you’ll receive special discounts and you’ll always know when our sales are happening.

Again, I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with—we’re available 24/7.

Does anyone have the short-sleeve jeweled sweatshirt? I LOVE it, but the jewels on the sleeves rub against the side of the sweatshirt and create little pulls in the fabric. Anyone else having this issue?

I really don't want to return it, but I also don't want it to look like it's a worn piece of crap. Thoughts?? Please don't say walk like a body builder with your arms away from your sides.. because I already thought of that!

    1. Jessy I read of the same issue with this top on the Sequins and Stilettos blog. The blogger (can't remember her name) wrote of the top completely shedding because of placement of the jewels around the band of the short sleeve of the top. HTH!

      Delete
    2. I'm not familiar with this sweatshirt in particular, but would it look odd if you removed the jewels that are causing the problem? I'm not sure if they are sewn on or glued on or attached some other way.

      Delete
    3. Cate, they are sewed on. Hmm, just remove so they don't go all the way around, but still are pretty on the outside. Smart idea! I'd consider that because the sweatshirt is so cute and comfy!

I mean let's be honest, they'd probably end up falling off on their own in one more wear anyway LOL

      Delete
    4. Yup my friend and I have the same sweatshirt, they both pulled on the sides where the jewels are on the sleeves. ALSO, my friend wore it this past weekend maybe for the 2nd time and a couple of stones fell off from the sleeves already.

      Delete
    5. Well, looks like I am not the only one who removed all of the stones sewn on the inside of the arm. However I also had a few that kept catching on our sofa! So i sort of filed the prongs a bit there too. I probably should ve returned it, and I still might. Still deciding as I wore it for the first time this past week when I realized all this.

      Delete
    6. I'd return the sweaters that got pulls (they should take them back), then buy a new sweater but remove the problem jewels on the new one before they can cause a problem. The beauty of this is (???) that now when the rest of the jewels start falling off, you'll have some extra replacements :D

    7. Thanks for bringing this up! I returned mine today after reading this. I had already worn it and it had lots of pulls.

      Delete
    5. Yeah, I thought it was funny - my beef is not so much with the obvious zippers to close a purse or jacket, but the tops and dresses that have the exposed zips in the back where they could've done a hidden zip and it would've looked nicer/had more longevity. Like the ruffle-collar sweatshirt (with an 'edgy back zip') or the cashmere fair isle (why does it even have one? it's a boxy, oversized pullover)...there are two that should be in the e-mail!

I could beat this dead horse forever... happy Friday, JCA's!

    1. Hi TXgirl14 - I've shopped madewell.com about twice in the last year (no B&M near me) but am on their e-mail list and have never gotten a code. They really don't seem to need to offer much in the way of promotions. Most of the things on my wishlist are on backorder - I bet if they offered a % off promo they'd probably sell out. Everybody here seems to be looking for a code - can't blame them, MW's fall offerings are really nice.

    2. Thanks for the input! I feel better knowing I'm not the only one never to get some type of code. :) and yes, great point...they probably don't need to many promos.

    3. I am a long-time customer, though I only make a few purchases a year (and it's been months since my last one), but I didn't receive a code either. So I took Melissa's advice above and signed up for their emails again, and the code showed up a few hours later! It's definitely worth a try, although the codes may actually be distributed randomly so it may not always work. But, hey, keep signing up over and over again if you really want one!

Btw on the off-chance I don't use mine I will post it here by the 23rd (when it expires). It's not valid on third party merchandise which is what I want most :(

    2. Would you buy at 25% off, or do they go to the sale section at some point? I need the black ones.

      Delete
    3. They do stretch out a bit but I simply throw them in the dryer and that works fine for me. I also love them and wear them constantly so for me they are worth the $ (especially with 25% off, although they do that so much more often these days).

    4. Ive never seen the black ones on sale- with the 25 percent off its a good deal for them!!

    5. I find that the twill Minnie's stretch a bit during the day. I have one pair of black wools that I don't wear as much because I find the fabric is a bit itchy. These fit a bit tighter. I've only seen the color Minnie's hit sale.

      Delete
    6. I will say though, that I think the Factory twill Minnie's (called Winnies) are pretty much exactly the same as the retail version and you can score those for an excellent price during promos/%off etc...

      Delete
    7. Indefinitely sized down-way better fit. And yes, that wool was itchy! How does the factory sizing compare to the retail?

    1. I don't think they have any explicit guarantee, but I would think pieces falling off should count as "defective."

    1. I tried on the elbow sweater as well. The material looks low quality wool which means that it will pill like immediately. Also, the elbow patces do look weird. It's smaller than the typical elbow patches. Also, I tried on my usual size and the patches DO NOT match up with my elbows and that's a huge pet peeve of mine. The edge of the patch hit my elbow. So I sized down and the middle of the patches hit exactly at the elbows but now the sleeves a little tight. Soooo, I will have to pass. If you look at the catalog, the patches do not hit the model's elbow either.

      Delete
    2. I'm pretty sure I'll get tired of the elbow patches eventually. I plan to remove them (very carefully) with a seam ripper when the time comes.

      Delete
    3. I had noticed the small size and the odd placement of the elbow patches in the catalog. I can't imagine anyone would intentionally design something like that. Seems like something was lost in the translation in overseas production. Imagine if you had no cultural references to college profs in tweed blazers with patches on the elbows. You might think this was just another of those weird American things and make a few "adjustments." Too bad, because Ralph Lauren occasionally does these type of sweaters and they always look wonderful.

      Delete
    4. That's unfortunate, 'cause it looks like they got them right on the the men's version (for less $$, of course).

      Delete
    5. Darn, I ordered this sweater and returns are such a pain from Canada. I had high hopes as I love elbow patches.

      Delete
    6. The SA who helped me said she never noticed that the elbow patches did not match up to her elbows until another customer mentioned it to her. She said that since she can't return the sweater, she now has to scrunch up her sleeves just to make the patches hit her elbows just right. UGH! It's a great idea to have those patches on a women's sweater, but the execution is just off. For $100, I expect those patches to land on the elbows.

      Delete
    7. I wore mine today, the patches seemed like they were in the right place.

  40. Love and bought the grid block tee! If I wasn't leaving for Disney in a week and a half, I probably would have bought more although most of what I liked is from the last roll out. I really like the beaded chambray shirt and surprisingly I was able to size down with any gaping buttons. As soon as it goes on sale (with an extra % off), I will own this shirt. I also really like the striped necklace tee - this one will also be mine after a markdown. While I love the way the Andie chinos fit at the waist (I actually had a butt in these!), the length was very strange. The SA working with me (Billy was off for his b-day) said that she hasn't seen them work on anyone. I like the red of the lightweight merino V-neck, but it seemed a little big. I didn't try the size down. While it needs several markdowns before I could consider it, my b&m didn't have the chandelier sweatshirt in either color. :(

I think the green floral sweatshirt is beautiful, but it seems armor-like. :) And I just didn't like the blue colorway. I wish the green was as fluid as the blue. The other sweatshirts are pretty, but I have the navy and ivory/white from last year, so I don't need another in either color.

My b&m had a pretty good sized sale section and while I glanced, I didn't really pay close attention. Sorry, fellow JCA's. The SA's at the Charleston, SC, store are friendly if you want them to look for anything. Maybe because the promo has been on all week, but I was surprised at how empty the store was.

    2. Hi math teacher - haven't seen you around in a while! I like the look of the grid-block tee. Did you find it to be TTS?

      Delete
    3. Yes, I found it TTS.

I've been reading and not buying for quite a while. My dog had emergency surgery this summer (he's fine now), so I had to stop shopping so much.

    4. What color did you get in the grid-block tee? I'm debating between the two possibilities.
Glad to hear that your dog is fine now. Vet bills are pricy, even for well visits. I can only imagine how expensive emergency surgery would be.

    5. I got the multi grid, although I liked the cool one better IRL than I expected. The red/orange and blue squares are very vibrant.

  44. This is a bit OT, but I know many JCAs have Madewell codes and are also fans of Madewell. I am a bit hit or miss with Madewell, but I tried on a dress today that was a big hit for me, It's called the Diamond Jacquard Dress, and is black and white. It's made of a very sturdy and think Jacquard like fabric with stretch to it and the back side of the torso is a thick black pointe like fabric that is very forgiving. I thought it was super flattering on. The dress hit me in the perfect spot at my waist, but I am short waisted and only 5'4" so keep that in mind. The dress was full price at the store at $125, but $100 online, plus I had one of those crazy no strings attached $25 off codes so it came to $75. (I don't think I've really seen a no strings attached coupon code like this before. Cra cra). Plus free shipping. I would say the dress was TTS to slightly big. I stuck with my normal size, but if you are small on top you could probably go with your smaller dress size if you fluctuate between sizes. The Archive boot is also a classic that is worth the investment if you have a Madewell code. The boot unfortunately doesn't work on my foot (oddly enough I am in between 1/2 sizes)). I keep trying them on and bought and returned them twice somehow hoping my feet have changed and they would miraculously fit?? I know, I have a problem :). Shopwithm has reviewed them and recommends them highly.

  45. Anyone tried on or bought the long field jacket? I bought a jacket last year from JCrew/Barbour that also was "coated" in resin or wax, or whatever they want to call it, but it smelled like a crayon every time I wore it and eventually I gave it to a friend who wasn't bothered by it. I felt like a walking preschool everywhere I went. I'm concerned this jacket will have the same issue, but it's super cute. Anyone have any experiences to share with this? Thanks in advance!

    1. Malvina Gigi reviewed this jacket on her blog. You could post the question on her blog.

    2. Malvina, if it's a waxed jacket, it's going to smell like that. They always have. It's part of the charm...it doesn't smell like preschool, it smells like pheasant shooting and Range Rovers:)

    3. Yes, and who doesn't love hunting? The senseless and cruel murder of innocent animals! Sorry, but I don't find that funny.

      Delete
    4. I bought this jacket a couple of weeks ago and love it! I don't notice a smell. I did have to size down. Hope that helps!

    5. I bought it two days ago, and have been wearing it ever since (it just got down to low 60s and started to rain where I live, so perfect timing). I love it. It's cute, well made (love that it has both a zipper and snap buttons), perfect for the early fall weather (I think it's good for the upper 50s - lower 60s temperature range), is water resistant enough to keep me dry during my commute. I don't think it has any smell at all. Maybe the rain washed it off, but I just went to sniff it just to be sure and nope, no scent at all. I took my usual outerwear size (L), I considered M but preferred the oversized look in the end. I really recommend it! Looks great with pants and dresses/skirts.

  48. Got the October catalog on Friday- not much to interest me. Today I got a $25 off promo code e-mail from Madewell. That caught my attention! Honestly, I feel like Madewell jeans fit better and are edgier than J.Crew. Having just returned from a beach vacation, I can say that J.Crew swimsuits are still really, really great, though.

  49. Went to the factory yesterday (Seattle)
40% off and stacking the 30% coupon for over 200.
I bought the vest in the beige/sand color...sized down.
the sweatshirt in black with the beading/jewels again sized down.
bought the cabernet and the navy lace front top. took my reg. size of top.
threw in a Henley and two vintage t-shirts
All are neutrals and casual pieces. Nothing too flashy or neon.
I tried on the factory version of the hacking jacket...felt cheap despite the price tag...and the funnelneck sweatshirt on me was terrible. I had high hope for this one in two of the colors but it is very low quality...again despite price this one is a total dud. I think this fabric will look old vey quickly...plus the material felt really icky on.There were some new jewlery and bags. I have a few older pieces...and the new ones ..well again they were very cheap looking...as we know some things you just have to buy at the regular BM 's.
I am happy about the vest as the only thing different is the pockets...and on the retail I was not fond of the gold snap pockets. But again mine is for very casual wear not to wear with pencil skirts to work...which is a cute look for many of you.
The SA'S at the Seattle outlet...have always
been super helpful , polite and pleasant. I had a good visit. It was worth the trip.

  51. Can anyone give me feedback on the durability of the Bromptons? I just go the Brompton mini-hobo, wet stone color in the mail. Does the leather scratch really easily? I'm rather hard on my stuff. Thanks

    1. JulieY, I've had the regular size Brompton hobo in henna for about 1.5-2 years and I love it. I have been very rough on the bag, using it for my daily commute to work, travel, carrying in inclement weather (I live in Chicago). I am a huge fan of the henna leather and own several J Crew bags in it. The patina just gets better with age. I also have the gold mini hobo from last year and love it. I use that one less often (on the weekends in the summer) but it's held up very well with no visible signs of wear at all. With being said, I am not sure how the leather of the wet stone version compares. Assuming it's similar it should be of good quality and durable. I recently purchased the regular sized Brompton in the dark blue color but haven't used it yet. The leather seems durable but not perhaps a little smoother than the henna and gold versions. Clearly you can see I love the Brompton bag since I own three of them:) I think it's a winner and classic bag that's easy to carry. HTH!

  55. Hi...Question for JCA's.
I live in Canada. I will be in Chicago for a few days next month. On-line ordering through the US is much cheaper esp if a good promo is on. Now the question...has anyone had orders delivered to the hotel they were staying at ? I will be too busy to get to a BM . I am interested in ordering a coat or two.
I assume this is done on occasion ..Anyone done this before and have any advice for me. thanks. Here is hoping for a good up coming promo...and my goodness the sale section needs a biG 40-50% off IMO.

    1. I recall xoxo posting about having items delivered to her hotel in the past. Maybe try working with a VPS for something like this? There are quite a few JCA's that are happy with theirs and may be able to recommend one.

      Delete
    2. I would contact the hotel. I think it's not uncommon for hotels to accept deliveries on behalf of guests. I've certainly had items sent to the hotel ahead of time for work related travel that I did not want to lug around with me on the plane, etc.

      Delete
    3. You may have thought of this but another idea would be to call the Chicago stores to see if they have your items. You could probably purchase and have them hold for you. I am not sure where you are staying but assuming it's the downtown area the Michigan Ave store is an easy subway ride or cab ride away. Or a scenic walk if you have time and the weather is nice. The North Ave store is a bit farther but can be reached easily by subway or cab.

    4. Hi...and thank you for the tips.
I will be way out in the burbs at my 12 yr olds hockey tournament.
While I would love to see downtown and the J Crew stores in person...I have to be at all the games and last time we were there we had no time for anything but hockey.
Its too bad because I would have loved to have gone to the art museum as well.
I think my best bet is a VPS and calling the hotel as well to let them know a parcel is coming for me and to hold it...I will try to time it wellfor arriving on the day we do . Anyone else have any suggestions...
Can XOXO comment on any tips ?? thanks again

    5. Ah, yes, then your best bet will be to work with the hotel on the delivery. Hopefully you will get to explore our fair city another time! BTW you can try to leave a message on XOXO's blog, Will Work for Shoes. She seems quite the savvy traveler. Also, for future shopping, I'm not sure if you read Roxy's Effortless Anthropologie blog, she recently wrote of a new shipping service for US deliveries for international shoppers. It's sounds brilliant. Here is the link: http://effortlessanthropologie.blogspot.com/2013/09/international-shopping-lovers-rejoice.html

    6. @unknown- I'm a Canadian jca too and have done this before. Just talk to the hotel first to make sure in case your package arrives before you do. I think you would address it "Attn: Guest your name" then c/o Hotel Name.

Another option is to ship to a UPS store but there will be a charge from the UPS store (which varies from store to store. I've seen $3 up.) I did this on my summer vacation because they were willing to hold the packages for a week and I didn't want to bother the hotel to hold them before I arrived. There are tons of ups stores so maybe one near your hotel. You just call them and give your name/contact info. and find out their charge.

I agree that it usually saves lots of money because of the lower US prices and taxes.

      Delete
    7. Ditto, also Canadian, have also done this. I've just called the hotel in advance and told them that I will be expecting a package. Only done it twice, but never had any problems with it.

      Delete
  56. I used to do this all the time. Just make sure you call your hotel to ensure they have no concerns (they wont) and put your dates of stay in the shipping info. I'm Canadian too and loved to do this whenever I traveled to US for work!! Good luck!!

  60. Does anyone have the matchsticks in pitch black wash? I'm wondering if they stretch out/bag out much when wearing. The 27s are really tight on while the 28s are comfy but a tad loose in the waist. Trying to figure out which to keep. Thank you!

    1. I tried it and it didn't look good on me. Not horrible but not as good as to justify the (quite useless) purchase. I am 5'2" and a size 0 and I think it would look better on someone taller than me. I went with the merino zippered sweater jacket instead which is almost as thick. HTH!

  64. I went to the new JC store in the ATL metro area(Howell mill rd)and liked the store a lot.
    They had a nice selection.
Tried on the Floral sweatshirt in navy and liked it a lot,but felt it is shirt and boxy,so it had to stay in the store. Also tried the elbow patch sweater and it was TTS and the patches hit at the right places at my elbow. Since it will be warm here till end of oktober,i will wait for a sale on this one.
Also tried the Drapey swing tee and both the xs and xxs worked on me.The mauve blush came home with me.
I saw the indigo plaid shirt, but it didnt feel soft,so i didnt try it on.

The other thing that i bought was a lace skirt, that is not yet online in navy.
Audrey from Life is short, buy the shoes reviewed it too.It might be in the next rollout.

  65. Question for you all. Do you think you could wear the Leather and Tweed Pencil skirt (#03949) in a business professional wear work environment? I was thinking I would pair it with a short suiting jacket. Is leather appropriate at work? If I can't wear this to work I don't think I can justify the price. Thoughts? Thanks.

    1. Sara I totally would. I work in a professional business office. It's not super conservative, but we definitely have a dress code. I think it would look sharp with a white button shirt and blazer, for example.

    2. I totally agree. I would wear that in a heartbeat to the office. I think it's gorgeous and the tweed really tones down the leather to a professional level. Just watch the styling.
