J.Crew's October Catalog Sneak Peek on Pinterest

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Susan (in this post) who let us know that there are several images from the upcoming October catalog on Pinterest. (Click here for J.Crew on Pinterest.)

From the looks of it... not only is it a destination catalog, but it features one of my favorite cities: Venice!

*Um, I need this jewel drenched top. NEED IT.
 *This coat is g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s. Seriously.
 *Yes, please!
Okay... I was a bit worried from the sneak peek in the "Sneak Peek: J.Crew's October 2013 Catalog {thanks ..." post. However, I am now super excited about the upcoming new arrivals. So much eye candy!!! Should have never doubted J.Crew's Fall Collection! ;)

What are your thoughts on the upcoming collection? Are there any pieces you are super excited about? Does your local store carry any of the new arrivals yet? If so, please share!

  1. Oh, dear. I also *need* the jewel drenched top, even though it will be a nightmare to launder and require at least a day or two to dry flat on my kitchen table which I clearly don't need for other things... oh well, worth it. It's so pretty! I also have the jewel encrusted wool/silk dress that Katie Holmes modeled, as well as the jewel encrusted silk tartan long sleeved top, which are equally impractical... I think I have a problem.

I love the short sleeved shift dress, which looks to be liberty print, but WTF? It's Fall. Why didn't they release that in the spring? Weird. Oh well, it'll probably be $198 anyway. Wishlisted for triple-markdown-plus-40%-off-sale time.

I think J.Crew can probably stop making $900 (that's probably lowballing) fur vests. They've been doing so since 2009 and I just don't get it.

    1. JCrewJD: I totally agree that the jewel top is a nightmare to wash, but it is so pretty!!!

Also, LOL @ "Wishlisted for triple-markdown-plus-40%-off-sale time". So true! So true!!! ;)

    2. Ooh I love that sweatshirt, but would dread washing it!

  2. For a destination catalog (got it today), I feel like they didn't let us see very much of the destination. Some of the backgrounds are blurred. That picture with the pigeons all over the models is so gross!!! lol

I'm not crazy for anything in this catalog. I like some things, but right now I'm not planning to buy anything. We'll see, though, that 25% promo might lure me in later this week!

    1. Oh, I know about that pigeon picture! I feel so bad for the girl. I'm not sure she's too happy either. Her smile seems strained, and her arms are twisted up at such an awkward angle.

      Delete
    2. You couldn't pay me enough to do that!

      Delete
    3. I'd take so many showers after that.

    4. The one is sitting in her HAIR, ewwwwww. Another looks to be pecking away at her studded Darby loafers. Get off of the cute shoes at least!

    5. Ewwwwww! Anybody remember the Tori Amos video from way back when where she has the rats crawling all over her? This reminds me of that. If you're going to be covered with pigeons, you should at least be wearing the Lucido coat!

      Delete
    6. I agree. Pigeons are rats with wings as they say. I once had a truly unfortunate incident with a pigeon while I was on a walking tour in Manhattan. I think it's scarred me for life.

    7. I can only imagine over at JC they were shaking each other's hands, slapping backs, and congratulating themselves on being so brilliant to conceptualize this shot. If you see that dress at a sample sale, don't buy it! Ha, ha. Hopefully no one gets it in one of their orders. Oh, the horror!

    8. Pic #5 with the pigeons....yes her arms look twisted and look closer I think her shoes are on backwards. Is this the photoshopping all gone wrong. I see her knees but those calves and shoes are backwards. Is J Crew not checking their copies before print ? I remember the necklace pic that was missing a stone...I think Mickey should be sending heads rolling over this one !

    9. Okay, sorry for beating this one dead, but I just can't get over this!

      (Planning meeting)
Head Stylist: Okay, moving on to the liberty floral print shirtdress. Any photo story ideas?
Assistant #1: This would look great with butterflies swirling around it in the middle of the plaza.
HS: Hmmm...beautiful idea, but not in the budget. We’re only ordering limited stock this year, remember, to create the illusion of scarcity.
Assistant #2: Why don’t we utilize the local talent in Venice and incorporate Venetian pigeons? Venetian pigeons are way more chic than New York pigeons. They even understand Italian!
HS: Good thinking, A#2! You are now promoted to Assistant to the Head Stylist. A#1, you are now Assistant to the Assistant.
A#1: Ugh! Why didn’t I think of that?! If I had just rearranged a few letters of the alphabet and said “pigeons” instead of “butterflies”!!!

(At photo shoot with the liberty floral print shirtdress and Italian-speaking Venetian pigeons)
HS: No, no, no! This is all wrong! (To the model) Can you stop looking so terrified?! They’re Venetian pigeons! They speak Italian! What’s more chic than that?!
A#1: Why don’t we put some of our outrageously expensive sunglasses to shield her eyes from the pigeon poop, I mean, from the glare of their dazzling feathers?
HS: (In disgust, crossing arms and looking away from model) Okay, go get her some sunglasses! (Model is fixed up with sunglasses) Now, s-m-i-l-e!....Great, that’s the shot! It’s a wrap. Let’s go home. I can’t wait to be among some real, wise-cracking New York pigeons! These Italian pigeons are so hard to work with, but don’t tell the Italians I said that. We might want to open stores here eventually. Oh, and A#1, you’re promoted back to Assistant to the Head Stylist.

  3. I really like the Marlie purse in pictures. I know it's crazy already looking forward to Spring when Fall has barely started, but I hope they continue updating the style in Spring colors. I have plenty of dark-colored Fall bags, but always have a hard time finding a light-colored purse that I like.

  4. I wonder if I'll get this catalog, as I had to go in-store to get the September one. It's really pretty, but I don't need anything.

  5. Ooh, this looks good. Finally--after so many long months of kind of blah offerings. :)

Also, yay for my most favorite male model of theirs. Yum!

  6. The images are very pretty. For the first time in a long time I feel like I don't need anything. I have to say, in the section of pictures after the Venice shoot, I was so distracted by Karmen Pedaru's eyebrows that I couldn't focus on the clothes. They are wild!

  7. Any idea when additional outerwear will be available? I need a new casual wool jacket/short coat for a trip in early November but would prefer Thinsulate. Nothing on the website works.

  8. My Style Guide arrived today....a lot of pretty stuff though only a few items I really want to see IRL. Looking forward to the web site update with close ups of some details, like the collar of that coat in the first photo.

    1. WMM: it's 138 before the 25% off!

    2. Thanks Rynetta - that is more affordable than I thought it would be!

    3. I think that's the Jeweled Chandelier Sweatshirt (#04967X) for $168. Are we talking about the gray one, pictured 4th down from the top?

      Delete
    4. WMM and Cate: oops, WMM, I thought that you were talking about the Jeweled Collar Sweater that I posted an image of on my blog. If you're talking about the sweatshirt, Cate is absolutely right, that's 168!

    5. J. Crew is selling so many different kinds of jeweled sweaters and sweatshirts that I am getting confused! :D

      Delete
    6. Mine was marked $118 before percent off!

    7. I bought the jeweled grey sweatshirt last year, so I will definitely be sitting out the jeweled offerings this year. How many jeweled tops does one need, I ask?! I was lusting after the jeweled chambray shirt that came out in August, and I convinced myself that this was a complete waste of $100-plus. Plus, it would be very uncomfy for my snuggly 2-year-old son.

But, I do feel like the jeweled tops are entering ruffle/stripe/polka dot territory. Overkill, much?

    8. Is the jewel drenched sweatshirt in stores? It's not online yet and I NEED THIS. I've avoided most of the jeweled stuff cause I know they'll just entice my toddler to try to pull them off me but I'm willing to fight with her for this one!
Does the sweatshirt run TTS? I usually size down for relaxed fit items so I'm wondering if I should do the same for this one.

    9. mamakoh, I did not see the jewel drenched sweatshirt in my store. But it is kind of a crummy one that doesn't get much merchandise. I bet the bigger stores have it. I NEED it as well :)

    10. Just called and it's not in my store either :( Hope it comes online tomorrow and doesn't get sold out in my size! I'll be super sad!

    11. mamakoh - I will check tomorrow. I have to go shopping for important things - like furniture - but I have every intention of getting my J. Crew fix in as well. I feel like I see jeweled tops everytime I'm in my J. Crew. Sorry for the delay in responding. I hope you see this!

  10. Love the look with the long plaid(?) coat and the pencil skirt. I never really took notice of those strappy pumps before - they look amazing. Too bad the price tag is over $300 here in Canada... Hopefully they come on sale at some point...

  11. I love all of the clean lines of the clothes. The year I don't need much corporate wear and have decided to dive into the deep end of sweatshirt gear. My stratetgy to keep my look together is the maritime blazer & various schoolboys with cargos & jeans, since I won't be wearing too many trousers. Thanks for all of the great images!

I reviewed a couple more dresses here. Seamed crepe dress & Gwen dress in colorblock.

    1. Oh Gigi, just when I thought I was over their sweatshirts I saw the new sweatshirt with the brocade like abstract floral panel in front. Also comes in a navy with burgundy swirl print. Already have enuf sweatshirts but this one lured me in again! Hopefully it'll reach super sale! They were next to the moto wool
Minis. Saw the silk floral liberty like print dress and really thought the colors were more ppropriate for spring do I didn't try it on.

    2. cuckoo - I thought I was safe against the brocade sweatshirt because I'm not big on green. That navy/burgundy one you mentioned sounds interesting. I'll be looking out for it!

  12. Fall and J.Crew go together like salt and pepper. Not too sure my wallet can take much more punishment. From rustic merino sweaters to Chester brown flannel to wool ties I'm looking better if poorer.

The wool sweater in a patterned navy the model is wearing in the boat may well be the next one to fall victim to my shopping clothes addiction. The catalog looks like a good one.

    4. After being bewitched by the bedazzler and purchasing the "gorgeous coat" aka the Captain coat in jeweled houndstooth (item 04456) and the Jeweled chandelier sweatshirt (item 04967),that certainly describes me. At least I won't have to worry about putting anything in my pockets :-)

  14. Lots to love in this style guide. Mickey promised changes to come in terms of styling etc. and this one delivers IMO.

  15. The gorgeous coat is $495 and apparently also jewel encrusted.

The jewel encrusted short sleeve shirt is also $495, and there are not many left due to pre-order.

I checked the tag on my brocade sweatshirt--grey with mint brocade--and it says $118. And of course right now that is 25% off. The item number is 04966. I took my usual size. Please note: the brocade does not stretch, which can make putting the shirt on and off a bit of a trial. It felt fine once on. And it's ridiculously beautiful.

  17. Darn, now J.Crew comes out with the Stadium Cloth Cocoon Coat in petite and camel color. Had I known, I would have waited to purchase it this year instead of last year. Sucks when that happens.

  18. Isn't that the Swiss Dot Tuxedo Shirt (01990) in the middle of the photos? As in, the Swiss Dot Tuxedo Shirt that's been online for months already? Funny that after all this time, they're featuring it in the catalog.

    1. Swiss dot tuxedo shirt got the side thumb from me. I would try it on again to see if being 3lb lighter makes it any better, but I'd be surprised. The collar was very literal 'tux' to me.

Btw, the goods are so pretty :D
