JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  3. New promo up. SHOPNOW for 30% off final sale. Shop w/the Irl Pic Guide. Good thru Mon, 9/30.

I wish they would've had the courage to make it 40% off with code WETOOARETIREDOFTHISSTOCK. It's late. That's all I got in the hopper. Anyone else have a better code they could've used to go w/my 40% wish?

    1. Well, I kinda got my wish. There's a new (to me) section called 50% End of Season Styles.

The SHOPNOW code gets 50% off items in that section. Very interesting. Of course I don't want anything in that area of the site.

    3. 60% clearance items? That'd get me to buy. With reduced or free shipping.

  4. Finally organized the chambray and denim shirts I've reviewed/shown IRL/styled. Three factory shirts are part of the factory 40% off fall essentials online sale and I'll be adding at least one more from the sale in a couple days.

  5. Something is wrong with the web site (at least from my iPhone)! When I click on most of the sale items (tons!) it kicks me back to the main page. Maybe b/c it's so early?

  6. I'll post some outfit inspirations tomorrow on my blog but I found an interesting link with a fall trend: skirts and sweaters. A way to use all those Jcrew skirts and merino sweaters!! checkout the trend at ParisFashionWeek website. I don't know how to past a link here sorry :(

  7. I need some styling help.

I have a red (JC "flame") pencil skirt and a "flame" Tippi. When I wear them together I get many compliments. But I wear them this time of year when I can still go bare-legged. I would love to winterize this look. I'm not finding that my other winterizing strategies - boots or opaque tights - are working for this one.

    Thoughts?

    1. Hmmm, a skirt in winter without opaque tights or boot? That may be a tough one unless you live in a fair weather state. How about a tight with a patten like a fishnet pattern either in black with black pumps or wedges (I like patent leather in the winter) or in a nude/ camel color with camel or animal print wedges/ heels? You could also do with a short bootie. That look seems to be very in this season.

    2. I would try incorporating a bit of a black, charcoal or brown with the tippi (even just a scarf) and that would balance out wearing dark tights and boots. Last winter I wore my jade pencil skirt and jade tippi with a charcoal sleeveless jacket (sounds strange I know, it was a France vacation purchase) and black tights and black boots.
I also did the royal blue pencil skirt with a royal blue turtleneck and chambray skirt and it still worked with dark tights and boots.

    3. My comment above should say "chambray SHIRT" not skirt. :)

    4. I'd try gray tights with heeled mary janes and a scarf.

    5. Also have you tried booties?

    6. Instead of black tights, what about grey (light or dark), brown, or navy tights? This can soften up the look as compared to wearing black tights. I would add a blazer or shirt that is similar in color (grey, brown or navy) to pull the look together - this way you have 2 main color schemes happening - the red, but also the grey/navy/brown to keep you warm!

  8. @cousy I think you could add tall boots (like a cognac color) and tights...I agree, I often have difficulty with my colored pencil skirts in the winter with the colorblocking issue and I can't go bare legged!! I'd be curious to hear what other people think as well :)

  9. Speaking of vibrant flame, I recently styled the vibrant flame tippi with a gingham button down and the dot cafe capris on my blog (sounds like a lot going on but it worked!): here

Another fall outfit, plaid cafe capris and the crystal floral statement necklace (and my Limsanity purchase) here

    2. Love the idea. Speaking of gingham, I totally missed out on some great gingham perfect shirts last year and am kicking myself. Any idea if they'll have them again later in the fall or similar shirts at other stores?

    3. thanks ladies!
Jennifer, they have a few of the gingham shirts at J.Crew Factory online here

Gingham seems to be a pretty consistent style so hopefully we'll see more! Factory usually has a constant rotation of them. hth!
