JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

    1. Thanks for the review! I already ordered this but based on your pics...I think it will be going back. Looks to be another top that will be too low on me. Le sigh.

    2. I tried it on during the Style Sessions and loved it. Wish it fit in with my WFH lifestyle. Trying hard to resist it.

  4. OT-those of you looking for the factory herringbone excursion vest...two of my friends that have been wait listed since it first appeared on the site this season received ship notices last night. Looks like they are starting to restock and are definitely filling previous orders.

    1. Thanks! My goodness those things are being bid up on eBay. I'm seeing ones that sold for over $200.

    2. Also, don't forget you can do a charge send by calling a Factory store direct. This weekend they are having a 40-50% off sale in store. The first store I called (in southern CA) had my size in stock, and the price was only $64 or so, plus $4.95 shipping and tax. I should have tried the OR store first, where there is no tax!

  5. What can I wear with the Herringbone Excursion Vest? Black & denim, but what else? Thanks!

    1. I treat mine as a neutral which may be a bad idea...but I wear just about every color top with it...and for bottoms...I love it with burgundy toothpick cords, camel pencil skirt, red denim and I also have a bright violet cord from the factory that I wear it with. If I wear bright bottoms..I usually stuck with black, gray, ivory or chambray top a d sometimes throw on a crazy scarf too. I'm a color person though so I may look nuts!

    2. cate - Treat it like a neutral. That gets said about a lot of things these days, but once you start thinking of something with less intensity then the mixing gets easier.

Visit this post on Lisa/Respect the Shoes. She styled the hell out of it. Pic 4.

  9. Any styling ideas for the new collection tattersall capris? I'm thinking the tippi sweaters in retro jade and the burgundy would both work but I'm not sure what else... TIA

    1. Did you see this photo? It's from the styling guide. Love that combo! So an oatmeal or light blue would work well also.

    2. I love these pants! I agree with rose- I love how they are styled in the guide. Also online they show them with the leopard print shoe and the crepe baseball top! Any large color blocking top would work great. I love a classic blue stripe button down too. Any blue stripe top would work. Chambray would look nice. A medium brown luggage leather jacket would look amazing! Don't be afraid of pattern on pattern too.

    3. Thanks Ladies! Yes, the way they did it in the styling guide is fab. I think am finally ready to move into doing more pattern on pattern - blue stripe is a good idea as is the leopard shoe.

    1. I love those shorts, looks great! I would buy them but I already got the blouse and skirt!

    2. For the shorts - I would pair with a flowy silk top like the scalloped cut out silk top or the silk henley in navy. A blazer would also dress up the look.
For the beaded chambray shirt - looks like a very versatile piece. I'd try everything from dress pants to dark denim to a pencil skirt.

  13. I need ideas for what to wear with the Elsa piped metallic sandal. The ideas that I found on polyvore were cute but not for me. I am a mom in my mid thirties. Am I too old to wear these?

    1. how do you feel about wearing them with simple ankle pants or jeans, and whatever top you want. They look very cute and versatile. I'd personally would wear them with shorts or a denim skirt.

    2. Agree with the commenter above. They look very versatile. And you are absolutely not too old to wear those shoes! Can you give us more info about the looks you don't like? Or the looks you are unsure about?

    1. vidhi tann - I haven't seen this necklace irl. My guess is the dark stones are closer to cobalt than navy, but you never know w/the photography. The Factory photography has been fairly accurate on the jewelry. If I go to Factory this week, I will keep my eye out for it.

  16. Hi everyone! I am having the HARDEST time trying to put an outfit together using the No. 2 pencil skirt in geometric print (item 28630). Looking for a pair of navy t-straps or a pair of brown boots that don't cut my legs off completely (I'm 5'2). Thinking about wearing it with a navy button down, but I am open to any other ideas/color combos! Please help! thank you!!

    1. Ms Adventure - Click here for some great sets on Polyvore.

I haven't seen many t-straps lately, but I saw these navy Bandolinos that look nice.

    2. Wish this skirt was still available - love the print!
Navy would look great, but also a subtle navy print would make a fun print-on-print look (a small polka-dot or something similar). Also try chambray. Alternatively, try a bright purple to play up the print.

  17. I'm not sure what you wear with my J.Crew Factory Lace Front maroon top: http://www.polyvore.com/factory_lace-front_tee/thing?context_id=3186997&context_type=user_fav&id=90649076 I was thinking of wearing it with the maroon pencil skirt: http://www.polyvore.com/factory_pencil_skirt_in_double-serge/thing?context_id=3186997&context_type=user_fav&id=90649203 but the colors aren't exact and i'm not sure if the color pallet is too far off. any ideas?
