Ends Today! Take 25% Off Sitewide at J.Crew (plus free shipping!)

J.Crew sent out an email this morning reminding customers that today is the last day they are offering an additional 25% OFF SITEWIDE (no min!) with promo code SHOPFALL. They are also throwing in free shipping on all orders (no min either!)

This is really a great promotion but... I think I am all shopped out. This doesn't mean I don't love the Fall offerings, because there really are so many lovely things. I just feel like I have everything I need in my closet right now. It's hard justifying another embellished sweatshirt or striped top when I already have the ones offered from past seasons.

On a bright note, I do enjoy reading about everyone's purchases. I am living vicariously through you all! ;)

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? Any items you are interested in? If so, please share!

  1. I agree, Alexis - it's been fun to try some of the new arrivals but I'm relieved to see this promo end, ha! I think that this fall and winter we'll see more of JC tightening up their inventory systems, meaning more stuff selling out at FP. The prices on this past rollout seemed so high, but the 25% brought them down to what they would've been in previous years. I am interested to see what get restocked after the returns from this promo are all processed, though.

What are everyone's "picks" from this promo? I'll start: stretch boucle jacket, grid-block tee, herringbone cargo pant.

    1. I wonder about the inventory situation. So many things sell out and then I notice backorder dates of November and December a few days later. My order for the Tall Cafe Cotton Trousers is backordered until December. I managed to snag a lonely Tall English Tweed blazer this morning even as I noticed several regular sizes backordered until September 30. Backorder dates are just an estimate, and they must make fewer tall and petite items, but I wonder if this is a tactic to get people to buy full price asap. I also wonder if the wishlist option is contributing to this.

    2. The wishlist definitely doesn't help it! I stick everything in there even things I'm on the fence about and would prefer to wait for sale. However, once you see there are "only a few left" or backordered, you get nervous you'll never be able to get it and feel more urgency to get it while you can! SNEAKY (and I'm such a sucker). Probably why I'm going at lunch to see what's still in store that's sold out online. Well played J Crew.

    3. silver_lining, I think you are right about tightening inventory levels. My VPS called me a few minutes ago about a petite jacket she has been trying to locate for me during the promo, and she seemed a bit exasperated by the backorders and out-of-stocks so early in the rollout on pieces customers are asking for. She apologized profusely and said she has been on the phone all day. I felt bad for her.

  2. I bought the Ludlow topcoat for my husband .. with the 25% plus a $75 rewards card (I used mine and then returned the item and got a giftcard) so the entire price was a palatable $260. Hope it is worth it.

Holy popbacks in the sale section this morning. Wanted a bathing suit and a top but just cannot do final sale at these prices. Too bad!!

Is J.Crew swimwear TTS? I have a few swimsuits from them that I love from years ago, when the smallest size was 2. Now the smallest size is 0 - would that work on a 32B chest? Called CS - they said to size up....but I don't want an ill-fitting swimsuit!

  3. I thought about ordering the houndstooth ball cap, but it's sold out. I still might get the drapey swing tee though, especially since it's free shipping. Damn you J.Crew!

  4. Since the double breasted blazer is not FS and the shipping is free, I decided to try it out. Do any of you lovely JCAs own the blazer and do you like it?

  5. I'm considering the Ponte peplum shirt but I'm concerned about how breathable and comfortable the fabric is. I run around all day long and don't want to get too hot.

I called the 800 number yesterday and after several minutes on hold, she told me that the material was 66% cotton, 29% nylon, and 6% spandex.

I'm also wondering about how this material launders. Even after hand washing (which is what J Crew recommends) does the fabric still look nice, or does it look wrinkled and puckered?

Anyone have any insight about the J Crew Ponte items? Thank you...

    1. Hey, I have the ponte peplum top (sleeveless, same fabric I believe) and I wash on delicate in a lingerie bag. It comes out a bit wrinked but I just iron with a cotton sheet over it and it's as good as new :)

    2. Did it shrink at all? The top is already slim fit...not sure whether to size up. Thanks, bindi!

      Delete
    3. BigShopper I know your question was more about fabric and care of the peplum top, but I thought the fit on it was off. My normal size was too large in the torso but the size down didn't quite work either. Sizing aside something about the cut was off. I generally thought it was an unflattering top on me but it may work on you.

      Delete
    4. I was also wondering about fit, so thanks for your input. I went ahead and ordered a large even though I am usually a medium in J Crew tops. The description said the cut is "slim fit" -- I didn't want the upper portion of the top to cling to my body. Now I worry about the bottom half...it might be too flared!

I also ordered the large because all of the J Crew thick cotton tops I order in medium (e.g. diagonal long-sleeve sailor top) fit great the first wear, and then shrink a little, even though I wash in cold water using the gentle cycle.

I'll post a review when I receive the top next week.

      Delete
    5. No, it didn't shrink at all. I actually handwash or delicate wash most of my j.crew stuff that says 'dry clean only' also. It's too expensive to dry clean all the time!

  6. I liked so many things at the first fall rollout and bought at least a handful of things, if not more. I like the look of many things from this rollout. However, I tried on a bunch of stuff recently and was enamored by nothing. I'm always reluctant to say that because the Rx on sale goggles is very powerful. So we'll see.

    5. Truly laughing out loud!

What makes this so funny is is that, yeah, when you're DROWNING in the crewlade trolling the Style Guide or the B&M, you really want these pieces! But out of the "crew context," they are borderline ridiculous-looking.

Also, it highlights the absurd price points, which are beyond just "high" IMO.

      Delete
    6. This is AMAZING. I agree so hard.

Some of the stuff from this season is really cute, though. It's just the prices that are absurd.

    8. #3 reminds me of the top of a nurse/surgeon's uniform.

I've been disenchanted with J. Crew offerings for several years now, and like many other others here my purchases have been steadily declining. There used to be a time when I wore exclusively J. Crew clothing, and I still wear many of those items today. Not so with the new stuff. Oh, I still buy an odd item here and there, but now I find myself looking elsewhere for the bulk of my clothing. I didn't want to comment earlier, as some egos bruise easily when an unfavorable comment is posted, but yeah, I find most of this year's merchandise either boring or plain ugly.

    10. I've kept a belt and the Nikes this fall. Otherwise, since late last year, my money has been going to other retailers.

With all due respect to Jenna, she is not my fashion icon. That is a rarefied world to be sure. JC needs to get real, and I think, in their hubris, they believe that means dumbing it down. There are two extremes going on that just don't meet. Instinctively their core consumer is smarter than that and wants more.

I thought this "25 reasons" post brillant! I laughed and shook my head, how different the world looks without JC goggles.

      Thanks so much for posting!

    11. I found this article laughable too! Mainly because the author clearly knows nothing about fashion. If you no longer like j crew- don't shop their. I find it funny that the author doesn't know what's in style or on trend currently. The calf hair baseball cap is stunning and was worn at fashion week. She clearly doesn't buy high end designers like lanvin, or know what's happening in fashion. The collection bonded merino sweater that she claims will look good on no one is sold out in both colors, besides that it's absolutely beautiful and what high end designers are also designing. I find it funny that someone who clearly knows absolutely nothing about fashion is judging fashion! She should maybe study fashion or go to fashion week to see what's actually going on, maybe she'd learn something! She comments a lot on price- if you can't afford j crew don't shop their. I think j crew is cheap! Go to target, old navy or wherever- those prices might be a better fit for her. She doesn't like the designs or patterns either- again there are stores like talbots, Ann Taylor or banana republic that are plain and might be a better fit. It's strange that anyone would post an anti- Jcrew article on a pro- j crew site, but that's just my opinion. J crew is designing many things that high end designers are doing right now and at a 1/3 of the cost. I'm glad j crew wants to be current and push the envelope. This author needs to stick to talbots or whatever she can afford. She also needs a lesson in fashion and where is headed. I don't think j crew is perfect, but what designer or brand is. I think the price point is an affordable way to look current for everyday wear. I think the author should write about something she knows something about.

    12. LOL! That article is hysterical and I agree with every selection except maybe the outerwear and the cashmere dress that she says will carry "the stench of body odor." I think it's cute. Not that I'm going to shell out the $$ for it. But if there are two things that J.Crew does consistently well, it's swimsuits and jackets/outerwear. And I notice no swimsuits were called out for scrutiny. So they have that going for them! =)

  8. So, all my orders arrived today. Since this is the last day of the promo I'll say:
Eaton Boy Trousers - Very nice. I bought many. As in I bought black in regular and tall, navy in tall, glen plaid in regular and tweed in regular. For me, the tall works as a regular length but for the glen plaid, I liked the crop length so it didn't look too masculine. These are really nice and I like the seamed crease. Nicest dress pants in a while, IMO.
Merino Zip Cardigan - I got it in navy to work as a more modern jacket with the Eaton's in navy. Works perfectly and wish they had made one in black to go with the tweed and glen plaid Eatons.
Boy Shirt Indigo Plaid - Better fabric than the plaid shirt last month, like it a lot.
So no returns here. I'm glad I hesitated on the Elbow Patch sweater, but I did order the velvet schoolboy in a larger oversize. I have this idea it would look cute that way, like a boyfriend's coat, but I'm still deliberating.

  10. Has anyone seen or does anyone have the double-serge wool pencil skirt in heather acorn? I'm wondering if it's similar to camel. I just bought the Factory flannel shirt in buffalo blue and want a skirt that will make it work for the office. It looked very nice with the Factory pencil skirt in heather acorn (which is similar to camel) but I found it to be thinner than my last year's store versions of the pencil skirt. I'm thinking since the colors have the same name that they should be similar in color, but you never know with J.Crew!

  11. After all of the ooohing and ahhhing I did when the new items started rolling out, I didn't end up buying (and keeping) many items. I ended up with: calf hair martinas, Pebbled black Tartine satchel, ruffle front rhinestone top in navy, crepe Henley blouse in cerise red, tippi in midnight blue, crystal wildflower necklace in the blue color, although I think some of those may not be new Fall rollout. I also ordered the black panel stretch dress but haven't received it yet. I did buy and keep many Fall items from Factory.

  12. For those who who aren't finding the J. Crew outerwear options to their liking this year, Land's End has friends & Family going now with 30% off and free shipping over $50 through 10/1. I love me a . Crew Lady Day, but the LE wool coat colors are really lovely for literally 1/3 the price.

  13. A little off topic, but.. it looks like J. Crew just increased pricing on their suiting? I bought the 1035 suit (super 120s) last week, at which point the full price was $230 for jacket and $130 for trousers, now they are $248 and $148, respectively. I'm glad I got the former price with 25% off, or maybe the increased price is some kind of glitch?

  14. I swung by the Crew to today doing some early xmas shopping and tried on a bunch of stuff. I came home with: tipped gamine dress in navy/cream, oh love love love! So comfy and versitile! Merino boyfriend sweater in jade- man, I should buy this in about 5 different colors! Perfect lazy day cozy fall sweater, paired with skinny jeans. I sized down a size. Fluted skirt in crepe, again, I will prob buy every color of this lol. It makes you want to twirl and dance! The blue is brighter, like as seen on the model rather than the garment shot. Acropolis blue plaid flannel shirt- super soft and comfy. I needed an alternative to my much beloved blackwatch flannel but unlike that one, this fits TTS.

  15. Alexis, sounds like you and I are on the same page.

My UPS boyfriend has stopped by my house far too often (three times this week!) Who knew being this cool and stylish would be so expensive?

In all seriousness I am thrilled with the items I picked up. The ties and slim Bowery pants are great and the added 25% with free shipping was a bonus. Time to let the dust settle and see what I can't live without in the October roll out.

  16. It's almost summer here, so I really can't justify any winter clothes at this point, but I did get a couple of pairs of Andie Chinos. I'll be stalking some of the Fall items later on in the year if they ever make it to sale!

  18. I'm shopped out, too, which is unusual. Even with today's promo, free shipping, and some unused gift card credit, I didn't see anything I wanted.

I stocked up on fall/winter items (tippis, wool jackets, pencil skirts) during the massive markdowns on winter items during the spring, so I've got a lot of my closet with the tags still on, waiting for cooler weather.

  19. I ordered the Long Field Jacket last night before it sold out. I live in the Pacific NW and I am hoping it will be a good fit for the cool drizzly weather we have all winter. I felt like $150 was still high with the promo, but I am glad I bought it now since it has sold out. I can always return if it disappoints.

    1. I don't think you'll be disappointed! I bought mine on Saturday and have worn it every day since. It's comfortable, not bulky, and surprisingly warm. I've received compliments on it each time I've worn it, and I know I'll get a ton of use from it now through April (I live in the NW too!)

    3. I'm also in the Pacific NW, got this jacket last weekend and have been happily wearing it ever since, it's great in this weather (and cute, obviously)! I expect to wear it for at least another month (then I switch to waterproof down jackets, but I get cold easily).

  20. I'm wondering if anyone knows whether an item is final sale or not? Yesterday I bought a couple items on the site and no where on the page, or the email that followed said the items were Final Sale. Today I stopped by a B&M and purchased a necklace also on sale, and no one mentioned it was Final Sale, nor was it labeled anywhere.

  22. Stores had 25% entire order, also. I returned the Bonded nylon bomber jacket (which I had gotten on sale) and got three items for the sale price I'd received it for at the Chicago Mich Ave store: 1) Miranda Quilted Jacket, 2) A new tie for my husband and 3) the Drapey Sailor Tee. Everything was already marked down and in the sale section (except the necktie), so the extra 25% off was great. I saved almost $60. I am noticing now that it's past midnight and the sale is still posted on the JC website, too.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Forgot to say that is what is weird is that the website's prices (before 25% off) are more expensive than store prices. Why? Also, the bomber jacket was a no (if anyone cares) because it totally rides up when zipped. Has anyone else noticed this or is it because I have a long body/torso?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Whoa, so I think there's a new feature on the sale section of the website (or maybe I'm just late to notice this?) called "50% off end-of-season styles" where if you use the code SHOPNOW, which normally gives you an additional 30% off, you get 50% here! Looks like it's spring and summer items in this section.
