Once again I was hoping for an additional percent off sale today instead of this sale. With so many items in the Sale Section, you would think J.Crew would want to move that merchandise quickly. Ah well!

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? Are there any items you are interested in getting? If so, please share! :)

  1. Hello! Does anyone know if it's possible to stack this with the bounce back card?

I asked a question here about stacking a while back and was told that J.Crew usually allows stacking for specific category promos like this, but not for global promos (i.e. 30% off all sale).

I don't see an option to enter more than one code in online checkout, but perhaps it's different in store or over the phone?

    Thanks for your time!

    1. Amanda Lee you cannot use more than one code online so it won't work online. I have heard mixed experiences from JCAs one whether they will stack bounceback on top of other promos in store. I think some have been able to while others have not. I think it's worth a try of you are near a B&M. You can alway try an online VPS.

    2. Amanda Lee - Hopefull you're near a store and they have what you're interested in. If so, visit and present your bounceback card when they ring you up. The promo prices should ring up automatically and then they can apply the coupon. Some stores will do it. Some stores won't.

When it's done online, they put in one code. If your VPS is willing to honor both promos, s/he would have to calculate the 25% off, then the 20% off and put in the net price. I would be realy, really surprised if they do it.

    3. Last week the bounce back worked in store with the shoe promo-good luck.

    4. They stacked for me. I just threw the card in at the end as an after thought. Stacked on the additional sale percentage too.

    5. Thanks everyone! I will try my luck at the B&M (and will of course share the online code if I don't use it-- I doubt I will).

    6. I just spent 1/2 an hour badgering/begging depending on your viewpoint an online VPS into stacking it for me, using Gigi's logic that if I could just get to a retail store, this would have been a snap. She gave me the stern "this is a one-time exception" spiel after I didn't close the chat window for a few minutes. She did not apply the bounceback directly to my cart- she's going to credit my account with a price adjustment that will post after the fact. Hope the info helps and you get your deal!

    8. Alyssa, I'm so sorry to hear you had a bad experience!

I'm headed to the B&M today and hope it's smooth sailing. I wish I had the time to go yesterday-- unless I just imagined it, the horsing around sweatshirt was part of the promo online and today it is not. I wonder if it was also taken off promo in stores... or if I really am seeing things ;)

  2. I'm not thrilled about this one either, as I think I'm about set with sweaters for now until another roll-out (or unless I pick up a few from Boden, who's having a 20% off everything + free shipping and returns right now).

  3. Yawn :0 I think this sale is a bit of a snoozer. I may have bitten if they included their fall skirt offerings.

  4. Somewhat on topic (since the sale includes pants!) - any opinions on how the Eaton cropped trousers look on a more "pear-shaped" body? Better/worse than the cafe capris? I would love your thoughts!

    1. I just ordered a bunch of different pant styles to try on and compare, including the eatons. I'm not pear-shaped but do have to size up to fit my legs, so have the same too-big waist problem. I found the eatons to fit similarly to the cafe capris---take your same size---the rise might be slightly higher if memory serves. The weight of wool is lovely and I didn't find them itchy. They actually might be cut slightly bigger than the cafe (check with vps), but didn't have as much stretch most cafes have. Would have to alter waist.

    2. I think the Eatons are very hard to look good in. I think they'll look best on a straight/thin figure (aka Jenna Lyons). They weren't good on me at all (I'm an apple shape, not pear), but cafe capris always work for me in one size or another. The Eatons didn't work on me in any size. They were tight in my thighs and hips, which are not normally my problem areas (usually it's my waist). When I sized up to get some room in the thighs and hips, the waist was all wrong. The rise is higher on the Eatons than on the cafe capris. AJC did a review on the Eatons recently, take a look if you haven't yet. I'm an apple shape, not a pear, so YMMV, but that was my experience trying them on in the store.

    3. The Eatons did not look good on my rear-end at all. They also seemed to make my thighs look wider.

    4. I tried the Eatons also and they looked horrible on me.
Had to size down in them and they still were loose all over.

    5. carmencatalina - AJC reviewed the Eatons in this post. She doesn't have a pear shape, but her reviews may still be helpful.

  5. Yep - the sale section is huge. I think it is worth noting that other than the perennially robust swim offerings (about 300 items this morning) the next biggest section is the Collection section (137).

On a positive note, I'm hoping that a few of the sale items I saw this morning last until the next % off sale since I will bite then!

    1. I want the swimwear to go away. I know it's still hot, but I swear that has been there since May.

      Delete
    2. Me too, FriendlyFemme. I'd like to be able to see everything in the sale section excluding swimwear. I don't like filtering it by category, either, because there are sometimes things that show up when you look at them all and not when you filter by category. I don't think it's supposed to be that way, but it happens.

    3. Agreed Cate - it would be great to exclude sections in the sale section (I'd add weddings to that list as well).

But here's my larger question - does J Crew need to be selling hundreds of swim items to begin with? Seems like a lot.

    4. The profit margin must be really high on swimwear.

  6. OT - Last day for the 40% off Gilt City coupon on the Factory side before it reverts back to 25% tomorrow. More in-store only items reviewed here.

    1. It actually has already reverted. When it first switched to 40% it said Sept. 9, then it changed shortly after to Sept. 8. All of the SAs I talked to kept referring to it as ending yesterday as well. The Gilt City iPhone app is back to 25%.

  7. Meh. I was really hoping for a % off promo today, especially because some things that I'm interested in went on sale the day after the last % off promo ended. Speaking of which, has anyone tried the merino striped colorblock sweater? Is it available in stores?

    1. I bought it in store! Love it! Oversize but still cute!

      Delete
    2. Thanks! Is it also $59.99 in store? (My nearest b&m is over an hour away, so I need to weigh travel time vs. shipping.)

    3. I agree, Lauren. I've been hanging onto my rewards but looks like I'll have to spend them before Sunday. I'm totally expecting a % off promo after the 15th, 'cause that's just how JC does things.

      Delete
    4. I'm in the exact same boat! I have to spend my rewards card, but I don't really want to use it on a final sale item that I haven't had the chance to try on.

    5. Lauren PhD - Review of the merino colorblock sweater here. Addtl 30% off still going in-store. I agree w/silver_lining that addtl 30 or something else will probaby show up on Mon.

    6. Thanks for the review Gigi! I made the trek to my b&m and tried it on. Like you, sizing down to the xs made all the difference. And the navy/pink/lavender combo is great. I finally used my rewards card on that and the heather dockside tippi.

  8. Nothing for me for this promo. I'm Crew'd out.

  9. OT, but has anyone seen that J.Crew is collaborating with British designer Sophia Webster for Spring '14? A preview is here.

From what I've seen from her personal website, her shoes start around $400. So obviously, if this is even your style, it'll cost a very pretty penny.

  10. I wish this was for all of the shirts, sweaters and pants! The Crew does this intentionally because they know some people still have rewards cards, bounceback cards, etc....UGH!

    1. I purchased a top in store that is not part of the promo online. If you are near a store, it's worth a shot! It was the silk boy shirt in tossed hearts. Absolute LOVE btw!

    2. Interesting! That's the one shirt I have on my wish list. Will have to try and see if I get the promo price as well. Thanks for passing along.

    3. Also love this shirt. Found it snug in the chest in my usual size. Was about to pull the trigger on the next size up, but alas, they are sold out in my size on-line.

  11. Of course the one top that I am remotely interested in is consider a knit. I'm sitting this promo out as there is nothing jumping out as a must-have, especially when the weather still hasn't turned yet.

  12. OT, but does anyone happen to have a 20% bounce back online coupon they won't be using? I don't have a store anywhere near me and never received one in my orders. I would greatly appreciate it! My email is tharpkj@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance!

  13. Can anyone comment on the fit of the Silk Blouse (item 02879) that's part of the promo? Specifically, I'm wondering about the fit through the chest, as I tend to have a problem with gaping (pulling/tightness) there on button ups. Thanks in advance!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm guessing these fit the same way the Blythe silk blouses do, in which case they run true to size. I'm planning to buy the silk blouse in cabernet and will buy the same size I have in Blythe.

      Delete
    2. Beware of jcrew silk- it gets pull marks and you won't be able to wear it without something over it!

      Delete
    3. Thanks stpatty...maybe I'll get my usual blouse size. I tried on the tossed hearts, and it really gaped (strained) in the chest in my usual size, so I wondered if J. Crew was going more streamlined for silk blouses this season.

Perfect fit...I've never seen pull marks in silk before! How do these happen? From a snag...or is this a quality issue?

      Delete
    4. I find J Crew's silk to be of mediocre quality. Hence the pull marks...I can't stand the cheap buttons on the Blythes. At least with the new silk blouse option it looks like they do not show. 3 out of ten for the crews silk.

      Delete
    5. Yikes! Thanks for the heads up :)

      Delete
    6. I'd also like a little more clarification on the pull marks. Do they occur from wearing it or washing it? I'd like to know since this is my first silk blouse from JC, and I still have a month to return if necessary.

      Delete
    7. Hi, R. As I mentioned above, this is my first JC silk blouse, and I love the drape and the rich coloring in the cabernet and blue. I am small chested, so I never have the gaping problem, but I would say the blouse seems to fit like a perfect shirt.

      Delete
    8. The pulling occurs from wearing the blouse. It is literally the silk fabric stretching in some areas cause the fabric to be compromised.

      Delete
    9. Creame, I really love the cabernet! I didn't see it at my local B&M, so I may have to order anyway. "Rich coloring" sounds good to me!

      Delete
  14. @R I use fashion tape to help with gaping. It works wonders and does not damage delicate fabric. HTH!

    1. Thanks for the suggestion starr... I never thought of that! I've always used precariously placed safety pins, which never really join the fabric nicely...not to mention you can't use them on silk! Do you have a favourite brand of fashion tape?

      Delete
    2. Hollywood Fashion Tape. You can get it on Amazon or at a craft store, like JoAnn Fabrics.

    2. Yeah, I like to think of JC (and Factory) promos as different ways of saying the same thing. They make it seem like it's something new each time, but all they are doing is changing the focus without really changing the final pricing. Sometimes, though, the stars do align with promo price plus additional percentage off.

  16. Not sure if anyone is still reading this thread, but I went to the b&m in Reno, Nevada today and they said that the promo applied to all sweaters, shirts, and pants (including jeans). I don't know if this is the policy in all b&m's. This may be a rogue store - they were also more than happy to apply my teacher discount to both sale items (with the additional 30% off) and promo items. In fact, a salesperson asked me while I was shopping if I was a teacher just to tell me about the discount. HTH.
