Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Those of you more familiar with Anthropologie may already know this, but I was wavering about ordering an online-only item from them the other day, but tax and shipping were going to add an extra $22, and knocked it over my threshold. I was in store later, and asked about the item--the nice SA offered to order it for me, and save the shipping. Somehow, they also didn't charge me tax when she ordered it, and I saved $22--woohoo! It was a 'backorderable' item at the time, and now shows OOS, but is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Long story, but mainly a shout-out to save shipping (and possibly tax?) by ordering through their stores--and great customer service.

    1. Well, the code is good but they raised prices on some items after I posted. Sigh.

  6. I submitted a review to Madewell recently on a pair of shoes I bought (they sent me an e-mail asking for feedback), and this was the message I got after submitting: "We'll notify you when your review has been approved. Please note: Reviews will debut on madewell.com later this spring. Thanks again for your feedback — the more we know, the better."

So, it seems as though they really are going to use the reviews and have a definite time frame for implementing them. Yay!

  7. Just received some very nice cotton-blend crewneck sweaters from the GAP. They are called the "Luxlight" crew pullover and the are cotton/nylon/silk (website says 70/20/20 but that can't be).

Anyway, it is a really nice sweater. Not as tight in the chest and arms as the Jackie pullover and the knit is much softer. Colors are great. I got a bunch of them (Mint, kelly green, lavendar, orange) for $27 eash. They are the thinner side so you need a cami under them but with all the heating, wool sweaters can get too warm anyway. Perfect three-season sweater.

    1. Thanks so much for the review - I just placed an order for a couple to try for myself. I was going to buy some Factory Charlie sweaters, but I like the available Gap colors better (navy, and the mint looks like it is a bit softer). Gap also has free returns if they don't work out.

There is a promo going on (I think it ends tonight) - GC30 will give you a 30% discount when you use your ON/GAP/Banana card.

Some washes of the Gap Sexy Boyfriends are on super sale as well, I think they were around $17 after the promo. And finally, I really like their Slim Cropped Pants as an alternative to the Cafe Capri. They have a pair right now that they refer to as striped, but they are more like a seersucker material - there is a texture there. Anyway, they are great, lightweight, machine-wash, perfect for spring and summer.

    2. Paula, I agree, I purchased a pair of the Slim Cropped Pants last weekend during the 40% off one full price item at Gap and absolutely love them.

    3. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll have to check them out. Are those J.Crew Olympia Suede Heels in the picture of the Slim cropped pants in optic white?

  9. I want to put a plug in for Fossil. They've got some really lovely silk blouses and dresses in great colors and prints. They're pretty old school in the sense that they don't really run promos (though there is free shipping over $100) and sales only happen at the end of the season. I just got a turquoise dress with black birds on it and a pink blouse with red birds on it (I like birds). Quality is good, and the silk feels great.

  10. From a blog called dearbooandlulu, I found the JC Penney MNG Mango Intarsia sweater , which looks very similar to J Crew's Hand Knit Fair Isle Sweater. I couldn't afford (by a long-shot) the JCrew version, but the MNG/Penney was $24 :) It actually looks better than in the JC Penney online catalog…
