Sneak Peak: J.Crew's March 2013 Catalog

A big "thanks!" to cuckoo4crew who scanned several pages from Women's Section of the March 2013 catalog for us to view. There are lots of cute items in the upcoming collection! Just view the slideshow above or for a full screen slideshow, click here.

I was able to get my hands on a copy of the catalog today and it really is gorgeous! There are so many pretty things that are slated for the new arrivals. The big category winners in my book are the jewerly (love the necklaces!) and the sweaters (crushing on the embellishments).
My top love is the Stripe Necklace Sweater (item 86132; $148). (It is the sweater on the model to the right.) The merino wool sweater in the green and navy stripe has a "1940s-era necklace" that is "meticulously recreated in hand-applied crystals". Seriously, ama-zing.

Second pick is the Glass Petals Necklace (item 76129; $125.00). It is the second to top necklace on the left page, and worn by the model on the right page. The lime sherbet eye-candy is both dazzling and simple in its design. Definitely swoon-worthy.

The one piece I am most confused by is the Let's Bring Back By Lulu Frost Impromptu Necklace (item 89075; $360.00). This necklace is worn by the above model, on the right. If you look carefully, it is suppose to be a mouth with crystals, and glass pearls for teeth. It is just weird. Not sure if this type of piece would be worn for more than one-season as a playful {expensive} accessory.

As many of you have mentioned already, some brick and mortar (B&M) stores have already put out new arrivals on the shelves. Many stores already have the catalog out as well. Hopefully, we should be seeing JCrew.com reflect the addition of these new arrivals soon!

What are your thoughts on the upcoming catalog? Do you like the outfits featured in the catalog?

  1. I like the linen Schoolboy blazer in the Bronzed Moss color, and the linen v-neck t-shirts.

I'm interested to see what kinds of pants they will offer this Spring. I do not like low-rise (City Fit) pants, and hope they'll offer a few Hutton or Original Fit-rise cotton or linen pants.

  2. Thanks! I don't have a store so who know when I will receive the catalog. Looks like there is a hummingbird skirt and capris now. Has anyone seen the print IRL. I wish they would have made a blouse or scarf (something more versatile) for the work office. I like the eyelet skirts and capris but will probably hold out since I have some from last year. I like style guide better than last months!

  3. My comment got eaten, don't want to type it all again, here's the gist: Skunk print skirt and blouse - NO. Only non mini non pencil skirt being skunk print - NO.

Mari heels = exact copy of Cole Haan. Not that that is a bad thing, but they probably won't be as comfortable.

And thank you for posting the catalog. Someone please take me back to Spring 2008.

    1. Maybe if we imagine it's Pepe LePeu and it's in the Paris 2007 catalogue? ;-)

    2. Hehe, I actually kind of love the skunks :) But I'm glad if other people don't! Hopefully that means they'll get to sale nice and quickly.

And yes, Spring 2008 and Fall 2007...land of Campo de Fiori, Library print, sugar and spice and all things nice.

      2007 and 2008!

    4. I recall August and September 2010 as being really cool- all the military-style stuff...But I also really liked 2008. I'm just not loving anything now.

  4. Cuckoo4crew, thank you so much for scanning the pages!
I cant wait to see new arrivals next week!

  5. That Bazaar print dress is calling my name. Come to momma, baby!

The humminbird print looks divine on everything it touches but the only one that I'd pay full price for is the currently sold-out dress. The shorts look kind of high waisted and the Ettas...just no. The skirt could be a maybe, if it's the right length. The white lace skirt also looks interesting but seeing as it's collection and unnecessary to me, looks like a pass at full price. I'm more and more intrigued by that Liberty Invitation clutch every time I see it. Looks like an super easy way to rock a floral print.

Everything else is pretty much reiterations of popular, standard JC fare. Lots of printed cafe capris that I haven't figured out how to wear non-ironically. I have yet to wear the Paradise Jacquard, the only print pair that I own, since I scored it on eBay at a fab price -two years ago. I'm surprising loving the Schoolboy is Liberty print but it'll probably end up as a museum piece in my closet. I would have definitely have gotten the dotted version if I didn't already own a Tommy Hilfiger look-alike from last year. Not a huge fan on linen on my top half so those are out.

The majority of the outfits look completely wearable which is welcomed. Yay!

  6. Thank you so much for scanning the pages cuckoo! I received an email from my in-store VPS letting me know that the new arrivals are in, so I'm looking forward to seeing them in person soon.

  7. What a beautiful catalog, and I am definitely ooh-ing over many of the pieces. (Even if we have already seen many of them, it is nice to get a fresh perspective on the pieces.)

I do take issue with some of the styling, but only here and there. I have to say the choice of the Bazaar dress on Mona (third page in?) wasn't the best for her, I think it is too sack-like on her, plus the shoes may not be the best choice for that particular look, but I could be alone in thinking this.

Thanks for scanning them. Let the budgeting begin (and even with the budgeting, I can maybe afford one pretty hummingbird print item, and then it still has to be on sale).

    1. I agree with you about the Bazaar dress on that model. And the price of that dress is insane!

  8. Actually, this is one of my favorite catalogues in a while! Hummingbird print is beautiful, I want half the jewelry, and I love the overall color palette. Not feeling the skunks, though.

  9. Thanks for scanning Cuckoo. Love the hummingbird print, not loving the price of the skirt!

  10. Huge sale section this morning. Some of the pop-backs might be worth it, even without a % off, especially for folks without a store nearby.

But I'm definitely ready for a new rollout.

  11. Thanks cuckoo!

I spy a few things I'd like to get my hands on!

  12. Thanks, cuckoo! I see some really lovely things there.

VPS said new spring arrivals are in store already, so will need to check them out.

  14. Thanks cuckoo for providing us with these sneak peeks. Love the images and items this catalog, it looks great. And the models appear to almost smiling which even adds to visual. Stopping by my B&M tonight, we are usually late to see new arrivals but maybe snag a catalog, hopefully.

    1. So I did stop by did my returns and took a look at some of the new arrivals. Did not see any skunks or hummingbird print items in my store, maybe they will come later. So some thoughts, Bold stone bracelet - much brighter IRL and stones were pretty large. Glass petals necklace, this looks muted in the catalog but is very bright, like the bold stone IRL. Liberty peasant tops in both the Loden Paisley and June's Meadow were beautiful prints but I would purchase in a shirt first. Dresses, the Camille was so so, very short, stripe shirttail, this is not a dress definately a tunic, scatter dot shift, again very short, not impressed by the material - cotton/modal/rayon. Some likes, Peony Tee, boxy and short but stunning, Lillian wedge, hope it comes in more colors, sweater stripe necklace, as Shopping Celle noted is beautiful but by the time the weather allows short sleeves not sure about the merino wool. I did get a catalog while I was there. Oh and 30% off sale items and quite a large selection.

    2. Oh rats, the Glass Petals necklace is bright? Why, J. Crew, why!?

    3. I know Cate that's what I thought. Pretty sure that was the necklace I saw in the case. Maybe someone else who saw it IRL can confirm.

    5. Yes, the necklace is very bright. I would say almost neon green. I believe it is the same green stone as on the bright stone necklace #01356.

      Delete
    6. I saw it too. Very green and the gold is really yellow and shiny. :-(

    7. I received the bold stone bracelet on pre-order and it is very bright green. It is very light weight, feels like plastic to me and hollowed out in back. I am sending it back. So not worth the price and not the color I had wanted.

      Delete
    8. Oh, and I also received the peony print sweatshirt. It is made out of very thick sweatshirt material with 3/4 sleeves. The print was very nice but it will be way too hot here to wear it in Spring. Also, I took my regular size and it seemed tts but very, very boxy and made me look heavy in the stomach. Back it goes.

    9. The more I look at the necklace, the more it reminds me something that one would want to wear on a St. Patrick's day. The petals remind me clover. Andrea you are right, the gold is super yellow. Sorry but I am not a leprechaun....haha...so that is a no. Shame because if the stone was more vintage looking it would have been an amazing necklace.

    10. Thanks so much for the reviews on the necklace. It sounds like I won't be buying it.

    11. That is so disappointing. The photo shot it straight to the top of my wish list, but it sounds as though IRL the color will be passe pretty quickly. Bummer.

  15. I kind of like the skunks, in an ironic making-fun-of-our-own-critters kind of way :) I like the Lillian Wedges, the Cargo Scout Chinos have potential, the Glass Petals necklace, Stripe Shirttail dress, Purple Poppy tee, Herringbone Stripe Tunic, Tabby T-strap Sandals... that's all (haha!).

  17. Alexis, I tried on your love the striped necklace sweater today. It is true to size or even roomy don't size up. The sweater is a fairly thick fabric and not sheer in the least. I really like it. The jeweled color is very pretty against the navy and Kelly green. I do however wish that it was made of cotton instead of wool. I fear it would be too hot after about May but I want it anyway!

  18. Does that say $325 for the Hummingbird skirt? Hard to read, but the pants are only $225, and that's a more complicated item to make...so it shouldn't be $100 more, right? ...Right?

  19. You are not going to believe what I like. The peony tee shirt! I have no idea why. It really appeals to me.

    2. Me three. I am imagining wearing it under a jacket.

I think the hummingbird print is just beautiful and something it that print -not sure what- will be on my list.

      Delete
    3. Not sure if you have seen the Peony IRL. It is stunning as I said in above post but it is short and boxy so not sure on sizing and there is a pocket which is hard to see in the photo and hidden under the model's jacket. HTH.

      Delete
    4. I got the hummingbird clutch. I feel that the print on clothes is a bit too much for me. I would end up wearing it once or twice. The clutch is amazing. I feel it is a nice touch without overdoing the print. You can dress it up or down. Perfect summer accessory.

I got the t-shirt yesterday. It is off white color...I would say more like canvas color. Fabric feels nice and light and is a bit distressed. I love the pocket and the fact that the t-shirt is not white...otherwise it could come across as cheap looking or little girl t-shirt. I normally wear xs and indeed it was too short. I sized up and definitely prefer that more lose look. It is a stunning piece but has too be styled right.

  20. I love the hummingbird floral pencil skirt. I emailed a VPS to get it as it is not online and they say it is sold out in all sizes. I almost don't believe them -- I'm sure it has never been online. In any case, if it ever appears anywhere I will be chasing it.

  21. I'm happy with it. I usually prefer their fall collection to their spring anyways but I feel like this spring collection is better than their past fall. These look like more thoughtful designs.

  25. I'm loving this rollout better, like a breath of fresh air from fall's heavy & jarring (ugly) prints. Many pretty things to look at but only wanting the hummingbird minaudiere to fill my need for a non-black formal bag. Passing on the Liberty prints this season, too yellowy & greenish for me. And with so many items being done in Liberty prints (including outside brands AG, L&T, Nordstrom), I think it's time to take a break.

  26. I went to the store yesterday and as mentioned above got the peony t-shirt. I also got a fitted sweatshirt ( not in the catalog) in navy blue with beautifully beaded sequin and stones in a shape of flowers. I absolutely adore this piece. It also comes in white but navy looks much more chic ( sized up from xs to s)

I also liked the medium biennial satchel in vivid jade. The shade is too die for and I think the purse would work year long in this color. I can see mixing it with tweed skirts and charcoal colors in the winter time.

Cafe capri in minty green are gorgeous. I haven't tried those because at my height all the jcrew pants are too short for me (hello we need more options in tall and size0!). But definitely would love a pair for the summer to style it with crispy white shirt and some silvery sandals.

Twisted stitch sweater is another piece that caught my attention.

Lastly "Darling" collection sweater is a huge disappointment. Color is whatever...does not fit well at all. Way too boxy and more importantly the stitching of the word is such a poor quality. So if any of you considered it...please do yourself a favor and talk yourself out of it.

Featherweight cardis are in lovely colors this season. Aren't they?

    1. Pumpkin, I was hoping you could tell me the style number for the beaded sweatshirt? TIA!

    2. The style is 13793 and it costs $118. I like their sweatshirts a lot...they always have a twist and fabric is a great quality. I am already eyeing one in the fall 2013 collection. There is an outfit with grey pants and a coat over the model. I am hoping that it is a sweatshirt and not merino sweater. Hard to tell in the picture.

    3. Pumpkin, what color is the beading on the sweatshirt?

    4. AD MD-a couple of months ago, I talked to CS via live chat about the jeweled sweatshirt, item 13793 that only came in grey and was told that around spring they were releasing this sweatshirt in navy and in ivory also. This may be it?? HTH!

  30. Bought the cashmere Raglan in Stripe sweater on page 17. It runs TTS to slightly large, no need to size up. I put a white shirt under it and it was really cute, I couldn't leave it behind. Also got the merino colorblock cardian in pink, which seemed really good quality.

I don't know how they will look IRL but the skunks skirt and blouse look really cute to me.

  31. Thanks so much for those scans, cuckoo4crew and Alexis.
I'm loving the look of the hummingbird skirt, although sure that practicality and budget will prevent me buying it.
I'm also quite taken with the striped Capri pants.
Looking forward to an online update!

  33. I got the catalog in the mail yesterday and looked it over last night. I think my love affair with J.Crew is coming to an end. I just don't LOVE anything lately. Plus, it's all just absurdly overpriced. And what is the deal with the Liberty print on everything? To me, it looks like a 1950s housecoat- certainly not worth hundreds of dollars. I like some of the shoes and bags but not at the prices. Frankly, I'm enjoying and appreciating Madewell more and more- it's edgy and cool and not nearly as expensive as JC has become. The March catalog is a fail. Unless there is a big sale, I won't be buying anything from it.
