J.Crew's Coat of the Season: The Fatigue Jacket {plus a sale update}

J.Crew sent an email this morning for the Charlie Fatigue Jacket (item 47864; $188.00). They describe this piece as the following:
Borrowed from his closet but better. Inspired by our classic men's fatigue jacket, this vintage-style military topper is crafted from durable Japanese twill. Tailored just for her (so you can stop stealing his), it's designed with little extras that his doesn't have—like a stripe jersey lining that's as soft as your favorite tee and a waist-cinching adjustable drawcord. Fits true to size. Cotton. Body length: 34 3/4". Sleeve length: 33 3/4". Hits below hip.   Hooded. Snap closure. Flap patch pockets. Lined. Machine wash.
I have to say, this coat looks pretty awesome. Yeah, it is a casual piece for the wardrobe. However, I love that it is lined with a striped jersey material. Plus, I am a big fan of hooded coats. I find not enough coats come with this feature (that can protect your hairstyle from a light sprinkle or your neck from a brief windchill). I can't wait to see and try this one on at my local B&M store.

What are your thoughts on the Charlie Fatuge Jacket? Have you seen or tried it on? If so, please share!

Quick Note: In the email, J.Crew is reminding us about their offer to take 30% off Final Sale items with promo code STYLE30. This offer expires February 18, 2013.

J.Crew also had another nice update to their Final Sale section online (click here) this morning. Lots of merchandise for everyone (920+ for Women and 310+ for Men). Yey!

As you would have guessed, the stock was pretty low for some pieces so things are selling out quickly. Some of you ladies are getting up really early to compete with me on the popbacks! ;)

Did you check out the Final Sale section today? Were you able to snag any amazing deals? If so, please share! :)

  1. It is a handsome coat, and it does seem to be the thing to wear this season.

I did see some similar coats at Zara, which also had hoods.

  2. Many weeks of waking up early finally paid off this morning - finally got a popback of the Wintress Puffer in black. I haven't been shopping J. Crew much lately, but my old black puffer coat is starting to leak down at the seams so I needed a replacement. Now I can go back to sleeping in until 6!

By the way, Andrea of Life's Divine posted a shot of the Charlie jacket on her blog:

  3. Though unlined, I really like the Factory Military Jacket that's currently online. It fits TTS, and you can cinch the waist. (It's the factory version of the retail Ryder jacket from a past season) It is unlined, but I think that is fine for a jacket that will be worn in spring and summer. I would recommend sizing up if you often have the problem with J Crew items being too tight in my arms.

H&M has a couple for $50, but as most things there, the jacket is too tight in the bust and hips for curvy figure.

  4. Sorry to be OT, but I received the hummingbird floral dress in 00 and sadly I have to return it. It does not fit me in the hips and I don't have a tailor I can trust with it.

It is a gorgeous dress. The silk-cotton is really a divine fabric with a gorgeous sheen. Color is a heavenly true sky blue. Print is silkscreened on and colors range from cream to purple to pink to blue. Such an amazing dress but I don't have anywhere amazing to wear it.

I am 5-2 with narrow hips and not much of a bust (classic ruler shape), and the 00 hit me at the knees, which was kind of surprising. I expected it to be longer. The hips are too big for me - which adds weight unfortunately. It has pockets! The back is beautiful - the print goes all the way around.

I am going to return it to one of my 2 local B&Ms. If anyone is dying for the dress I can ask if they will put it on hold for you. I took some pictures but don't have a blog so I sent them to another blogger in case people want to see it. You can also email me at florapower9@gmail.com.

One question - I redeemed my rewards ont his dress. I would like to use the reward on a different dress. If I return the dress tot he store, will they give me my reqard back in the form of a GC? Or will I have to wait for them to mail me a GC?

    1. when something similar happened to me, they automatically put the reward value on to my J Crew credit card as a refund. I don't know if they're supposed to do so but that's what happened

  5. I returned something in a BM store for which I had used my rewards card. I had to wait until they mailed me a new one. Fortunately it didn't take took long.

  6. The lining is unfortunate and makes the jacket a "no go" for me. It reminds me of my son's flannel lined jeans, which instantly turns the look into "cutesy" and toddler-esque.

  7. The jacket is cute, but does remind me of something you could pick up at Zara for a lower price. I actually bought and returned the black Fatigue Jacket from last year because the fit was off. Too tight in the shoulders, but huge through the bust and waist area. Hopefully this jacket will have a better fit for those interested in it.

  8. For those interested, there were a lot of new Promo-priced items again today (including many of the new arrivals), as well as some markdowns. You can see the updated list here.

  9. I don't like the cord at the bottom of the jacket, and it just looks a bit rumply overall.

  10. Just wondering if anyone has seen the no. 2 pencil skirt in fresh pear? It's the only colour on sale which always makes me wonder how nice it might be.....maybe it's neon?!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I haven't seen it but it smacks of being neon, like one of the neon kiwi, bright citron type colors. The circle eyelet skirt that languished on the sale racks for months last spring, is what I am imagining. I would bet money that fresh pear is neon!

    2. Thanks, J.CrewJD. You're probably absolutely right. It's too early for it to be on sale if it's a nice colour, right?! haha! I'm going to save my money and try to wait for a full price promo to get a couple of the colours that are a little bit more subtle.

    3. "It's too early for it to be on sale if it's a nice colour, right?!"

      My thoughts exactly.

I am waiting patiently with you on the other colors... would really like the melon.

  11. I love the hood, too, Alexis. Hats mess up my hair in seconds, so I'm a total hood devotee. I think I prefer the Boyfriend Fatigue Jacket to the Charlie Fatigue Jacket (even though they're basically the same jacket...). It's tempting to bite, but I still think I'd rather save up for a Barbour since those are weatherproof.

  12. I took advantage of some of the promo priced new arrivals since they are not final sale. I ordered the merino colorblock cardigan in the mint and navy and the tipped boyshirt in the navy alabaster. I tried on the white and black one in store last week, and while it was a really nice shirt, I felt that it was not worth $118. The navy one came to $68 after the promo + extra 30%, which is a much better price. The shirt was quite cute and I think I will get a lot of use out of the navy. I also ordered a bunch of tees, because even though they get holes under the arms, they are so comfortable and lightweight for summer and they come in so many fun colors. I can deal with holes at $17 a pop. I'll get one summer out of them and then they'll be sleeping shirts.

  13. Ugh. I did a charge-send from a store for the cocoon coat on Friday and haven't received it yet. Now the coat is almost $100 less than I paid for it. Should I fight for a price adjustment? I called to try to get one the other day and they wouldn't because the 30% off promo was only online. Now the actual price has gone way down and there is the 30% off in stores. Hmm.

    1. That is a drag krissie. I would try calling. I was lucky this am and got a price adj after pulling the trigger on my 4th cocoon (I love that coat!) in the hthr stone color 2 days ago. Good luck! Try calling the store first. They might honor the PA + discount since it's been less than 7 days. HTH!

  14. This morning Refinery 29 posted a link to a video featuring J.Crew's new instore interactive VPS tablet app. According to the video, the tablets are currently in use at the Columbus Circle and Santa Monica stores.

    The video is here: http://vimeo.com/58379873

Looks interesting, though I wonder if they are sacrificing personal customer interaction for the sake of technological advancement?

  17. I was so excited about that jacket cause it looks so pretty on the model, so I ordered it to try on. And I was dissapointed. It is so crumply and messy. I am 5-2 and ordered the XXS, but still too baggy on me. I really like the striped lining though.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I will have a picture of this jacket later this week.

I did try it, but I prefer the fatigue jacket from the fall. The current one has a lining, but the coat is not treated - it's just cotton, so those who are thinking of getting it, please be aware of that fact. You can cinch the waist on this one as well.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The jacket isn't my style but I caved to the sale again this morning...bought the double-cloth funnel neck coat in black (basic but I loved this coat when I tried it on in the store) and the funnelneck hoodie. The hoodie was definitely an impulse so I really hope I like it for the price.

  20. I prefer the crispness of the Downtown Field Jacket but I wish it came in an army green color (like this). I find Mossy brown so yucky.

  21. How does the Vintage short-sleeve pajama set run? I can't remember if I will need a small or medium. I'm a 6 in top/bottoms (29 in jeans). I prefer them to be looser than tight.

    1. I am the same size and I find the small to be very comfortable and not snug at all in the pajama set, which is my absolute fave and i sleep in all the time!

    2. Thank you! I guess it is time I get a set. :)

    3. I am a size 6 in J Crew bottoms and a small on top and I had to return the smalls, they were too tight for my liking, I ordered the medium and was happy that I did.

    4. I like them, but the top can be a problem if you are at all busty or have broad shoulders. There is no stretch in this fabric.

  22. Purchased some new arrivals on sale with promo, merino sweater in inky floral print, tipped boy shirt and some tees. Nothing final sale.

  23. They also added a few new release items as well. There's a midnight floral tee, a necklace and some shoes that I've noticed so far. I would try asking them to honor the $169.99 price again. You can either verify it yourself via online chat, and save a copy of the transcript, or I can email the saved copy of my chat session to you.

  26. SmAcKiTdOwN already. I got a similar, very substantial coat from F21 last year for $50. Here's a current one they're offering for $40: here. Of course quality is hit or miss and this one might be very thin. Plus it says handwash and the JC version is rare machine wash. I only wear the F21 coat every couple weeks so I'm happy w/the price I paid. Plus I have no worries about damage when wearing it to the park. I like the style of the J Crew version, but not the striped lining. Go figure.

  27. Just a quick comment on the sale - the pave heart bracelet is on sale for $98.00 and the 30% code works on it, bringing the (pre-tax, pre-shipping) price down to $68.60.

Even paying tax and shipping, it was under $85.00 for me, and I've been eyeing it at full price for months, so if you've been tempting, now might be a good time.

    I had a hard day yesterday - I'm giving myself a Valentine's day present 1 day early.

    1. I have been waiting for this one too! It "disappeared" from the web site unless you put the item number in a few days ago. I was going to order online, but was too cheap to pay for shipping. Luckily, my local store price matched for me. Of course, I could/should've waited until the weekend for free tax weekend, but I also wanted it for Valentine's day.

  29. My Excursion Vest in getaway green arrived, hooray! Nothing fabulous other than that. I am watching the Boyfriend Fatigue Jacket for a markdown. I think I prefer it over the Charlie Fatigue Jacket, but I like both.

  30. Fatigue jacket is definiitely not my style, neither is the Boyfriend version for that matter. And with the longer length, I couldn't pull it off if I tried. I'm holding out for the Downtown Field Jacket in Navy to make it to sale. That's as Urban Outdoorsy as I go.

My package from my Monday order arrived and a lot of it is heading straight back. I'm looking at you Sera. I'll leave my thoughts in the review section.

    1. I feel like that top is going to be polarizing or maybe it's just me. I wonder if the excess fabric could be taken in, like you showed in the second to last photo. A consideration if it makes it to super sale.

    2. I bought the traced medallion Sera and returned it b/c it was so huge. I don't plan to re-purchase in a smaller size, either, since I feel like that cut is going to look sloppy on me no matter what. I'm disappointed b/c I really like the collar and buttons on the Sera, too.

  32. Oh boy. My Style30 package arrived. Wow.

I ordered the Double cloth metro coat with Thinsulate (or whatever it is called) in Vintage Berry. My god--it's gorgeous. The color is beautiful. Yes, it's pink, but it's also got some depth to it--jewel-like overtones. I wasn't prepared for that. Since I have this coat in black, I knew that it would fit. The lighter color makes it look a little bigger than the black coat, but that's okay. It's so pretty. I can wear it in the spring. I can wear it with other colors. I'm just really in love with it--and the contrasting caramel colored buttons. I had no idea this would be so lovely since I never saw it in person.

The red fair isle also arrived--$69 with Style30. It surprisingly isn't FS. I knew this was the size I needed. The shoulders feel tense, but not uncomfortably tight. I think I might need to keep it for the price.

I'm new to JCrew unlike most of you. I'm just so impressed by their stuff. I actually wear what I buy from JCrew, instead of buying it thinking it is "unique" and "interesting" and then trying to figure out what to do with it. JCrew actually makes clothes that I can wear again and again and that go with everything else. I used Style30 to also buy my husband some sweaters--and he is impressed. He's picky about sweaters, being a Brit. But he says these are as good as Marks and Spencers. ;-)

Anyway . . . really going to try to stay away from any more shopping. Haha.

Unless anyone has anything to say about the Everly Wedges? They look comfortable and practical. And like they would go with everything . . .

    1. I've been wondering about the Everly Wedges as well! I hope someone writes a review on them, they do look promising!

Also, I enjoyed your comment on the wearability of JCrew garments. I never "save" them for something special and I think that's what makes this line of clothing so appealing for me. I buy, I wear. End of story. LOL

  33. Has anyone tried this year's bootcut cord? I need some more cords but I haven't tried on this year's version and am not sure what size to get and don't want to make a final sale mistake.

Also - anyone tried the Pleated Short in Structured Cotton? I'm sort of in love (and they are not final sale) but who knows how they actually look.

Will be posting pics of the Velvet Matchstick Jean later tonight!

    1. I have this years bootcut cords in the same size that I took in this years matchstick cords. If you've tried the matchsticks that might help. :) although I will say that I ordered two pairs of the same size of the frosted lilac matchsticks months ago and one pair fit great while the other had a noticeably bigger waist. Those sizing discrepancies may not matter as much in the bootcut cords since they are less fitted. HTH

  34. Ok, so I have tried both the retail and Factory versions of the Fatigue Jacket. I just got the Factory one in the mail today and it's already packed up to return. Of the 2, I much prefer the retail version, but I didn't end up keeping either. I think the look of this jacket is meant to be slouchy/a little baggy and the Factory version was way too fitted for the style, IMO, and also too short. It fits TTS, but it's just too fitted looking if I'm making sense. No hood on the Factory version and it's not lined, although I think I prefer it not lined. I think the retail version had a better look to it, but felt too heavy w/the lining. If it had been cheaper, I might have kept the retail version, but not at FP. Hope that helps those of you who are considering one!

    1. I love the shirts. I really cleaned up with the recent sale. I have long arms and that makes me hard to fit and these shirts have that bit of extra room I need :). The white tuxedo shirt is a bit sheer.

The shirts are darted for a nice feminine fit- not too tight or loose. I don't dry clean cotton because I don't want them to go in the dryer- they are easy to iron.
