J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  2. OT, but the 40% off sale has gone :-(
It's been replaced by 20% off all bridal gowns, accessories a nod bridesmaids stuff. Code is 'love'

Probably good for my budget. No more sale temptations.

  5. A couple reviews to share--Over the weekend I visited both the outlet and the regular store--
5" chino shorts: These fit true to size I think. I bought the same size as I've taken in seasons' past. I tried on the outlet version of these and didn't care for them. The outlet ones are thinner and the pockets and underwear lines really show. The store version is thicker, more of a traditional chino material. Although the fit of both the outlet and store version was substantially similar.
Tweed-front tee: I liked the look and idea of this, but it runs short so it felt disproportionate on me--I'm 5'8" and have a long torso. I would have to wear something fairly high-waisted with it. It's very pretty and different though; just not for me. I think it would work well on petites or taller people that can wear a medium or large.
Liberty Print Schoolboy: I love this blazer! I wasn't intending on splurging but after trying on a couple things that were only "so-so" on me I decided to get one item that I truly loved. The fit is consistent with regular schoolboy fit. It has a nice structure and good details; I really like the interior contrast piping and the plain navy under the collar.
I also tried on, but rejected, the Liberty collar stripe sweater. I'd be wearing it for work, so it felt like it would be too cutesy with a skirt or dresspants/capris. But I'm sure the right person could rock it in an ironic way. I think it would work well as styled online with casual denim.

    1. I agree with you about the 5" chino shorts. I ordered a few pairs from the Factory but returned them for the reasons you listed.

  6. Collection curator pant
I already own two pairs of these in the black jersey material, so was very excited to see them in another color and material! I wear 00 in these in the black jersey, and even then they're a bit large. So I ordered 00 and P00 in the new version (the former black jersey version was not available in petite). To my surprise, the 00 in both the fresh kiwi and hot pink were quite tight and consequently quite unflattering. The P00 weren't that much smaller anywhere else except the length, which was too short on me at 5'2". I returned them to the store and bought them instead in a regular size 0 and they fit much better. The fabric is thick and a bit heavy (but nice!) and the pants are lined. The colors are VERY bright. I think I am going to keep the kiwi and return the hot pink because it is just a bit much.
Liberty perfect shirt in Tresco floral
LOVE! Very bright, very pretty. Fits TTS. Will go nicely with kiwi curator pants and lots of other colors.
Girls' Liberty tote bag in Tresco floral
I love this print so couldn't resist another item. The tote is cute but small (definitely child-size). Definitely too small to function as a beach bag, but could be a day purse. For this reason, I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it.
    Farmers' market tote in natural
Cute, large, great for a day at the beach but could also work as a summer daytime tote.

  7. Okay gals, I think we have another "questionable item" on our hands.

You know how the ironic-retro look can sometimes work, as long as you bought the item at a thrift store for less than $5 or if you found it buried in grandma's trunk?

JC's "Hawaiian Tie", seen here: http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/accessories/funfinds/PRDOVR~11588/11588.jsp, definitely has the "thrift store look" (not in a good way), yet it costs $65.

Perhaps I don't understand the true meaning of "breezy", the term-of-art used by the copywriter-from-space for this item. Perhaps she, or the men from whom she borrows ties, now sidelines as a bartender in Key West?

Does Mickey have a tie like this that his wife or daughter is constantly borrowing?

    1. Cousy, I agree with your assessment. Not something I have been waiting for. ("and it's just what we've been waiting for" ) I don't even like the print in the teeshirt.

  8. I really, really love the Boy Shirt in Dots. I bought the white one with navy (thought they were black, but they're navy) dots and had it monogrammed with petal pink thread. Fits TTS and is made of that nice, soft brushed cotton.

J.Crew has really been hitting it out of the park for me with their casual Boy Shirts; I received the Poppy Plaid flannel and Gray Tartan as Christmas presents and have been reaching for them non-stop all winter long. My least favorite is actually the solid white Boy Shirt just because the fabric is so prone to wrinkles. If they would make it in a thicker dress-shirt fabric I'd buy one for work in every color!

    1. These sound like they are worth trying. Do you know if the sizing is the same for the Boy Shirts as it is for the Perfect Shirts?

      Delete
    2. @maryeb -- I can only speak for petites, but both fit TTS. Boy shirts have numbered sizes, and perfect are XS, S, etc.

However, the boy shirts have more room in the bust than the perfect shirts do. Other JCAs have noted the same thing.

    3. I ordered the blue dot yesterday - I am looking forward to getting it! Luckily not FS but it seems like the kind of piece that is both neutral and interesting at the same time. And hopefully nobody will notice if I start wearing it 2x a week....

      Delete
    4. I'll second Rosie on the fit of the Boy shirts as compared to the Perfect shirts. The Perfect shirts are more fitted through the bust, so if they fit you really well, you could probably size down in the Boy shirts. I consider both shirts to fit TTS, they're just made for different figures. HTH!

    5. Wearing my new Boy Shirt in Dots in purple today and loving it. The fabric is a nice Oxford weight that doesn't really wrinkle.

    6. I really love the Boy Shirt and agree about the roomier bust, which as a large chested woman is a godsend, I love button down shirts but so often the buttons gape and it's frustrating because I love them otherwise.

  10. I have been a shopping maniac lately...I think I've gotten a package a day for the last week. Some recent purchases:

Double-cloth funnel neck coat (black): I wanted a new black dress coat and I love this coat. Very simple but the high neck makes it a bit dressier and it has fit/flare shape which is accentuated by the tie belt too. I do think the double-cloth is a bit lighter weight than my previous years coats though.

Hothouse floral blouse: I grabbed this on a total impulse final sale and I think I'm going to have to try to find a new home for this blouse. I ordered my usual size 10 in blouses and this blouse is way too short on me and the sleeves hit my arms in a funny spot like they just feel like they're too short. I think they're supposed to be bracelet length but combined with it being too short in the torso it just looks small. Also hits my 36D chest in a weird spot. Love the print though...this is why I need to avoid final sale!

Funnelneck hoodie (item 30874): another impulse buy, but it's cute for loungewear. I ordered a medium and while I don't think I would have gone any larger, it's just cut much shorter than it looks on the model. It's extremely warm though and I like the cowlneck. Good for snuggling in at home.

    Factory jewelry:
gold-plated chain link necklace - LOVE. This doesn't exactly match the retail bracelet as the links are perfect circles, but I've already worn a few times and really like it.
brass plated crystal necklace (factory version of venus flytrap necklace) - another love, the crystals are nice and sparkly and I've been pairing with the chain link necklace and getting a ton of compliments. Looks great alone with a dark solid print top as well.
gold plated link bracelet - while I liked the bracelet, the gold on this was a funny shade, sort of like the anchor charm bracelet that people have commented on, so this went back.

Factory chambray polka dot perfect shirt - picked this up at the outlet yesterday after kicking myself for not purchasing last year. Size run is SML and I took a medium (usual shirt size is 10). I tried a L too since the shirts sometimes pull in the middle but with some garment tape this shirt has stayed put all day. Success! From what I recall of the retail version, this shirt is comparable to the retail version, I'm loving it! It's not showing up on the site but as other reviewers said, if you search 'dot' on the factory site it shows up.

    1. shopmurphy: thanks for the review on the factory chain link necklace. I actually posted asking about the item in another post. How is the quality? does it have a nice weight to it? I also own the retail version of the bracelet. I am trying to decide to give the factory version a try or just get the retail version. but it's $170!!! :(

      Delete
    2. @ladybug007 - the necklace is heavier but not uncomfortably heavy...it certainly isn't lightweight or anything. I picked it up for $40 with the last jewelry promo and a coupon so I think I will get my money's worth out of it. It definitely doesn't match the bracelet exactly but I wasn't as concerned about that. I also think the gold on the necklace isn't quite as yellow as the bracelet is if you hold them side by side. HTH!

    3. thanks shopmurphy- i ordered the necklace and whole bunch others to try! :)

  11. Fleece Nautical Colorblock Popover in "Cove Blue" (aka navy and cream). LOVE this. Bought it with the 40% + FS discount, totally worth every penny. Fits true to size; I'm a size 2 and bought the small, worried that because there's an XXS option that this will run big. It doesn't. The small was perfect for a fleece popover, fit but still roomy enough to not feel constricting. Construction is wonderful and colors are classic. A great alternative to other fleece striped wear floating around. Also, not too heavy so definitely transitional. If you've been thinking about it, I would highly recommend on sale :)

  12. Was at my local store over the weekend and picked up a merino tippi cardi in a mint green (color code MGR). I can't seem to find it anywhere on their site, polyvore, etc.
The color is really of the moment - like the one the catalog models are sporting as eyeliner.
Just wondering if anyone else has seen this or picked it up. I was looking for the heather aqua color but they didn't have it in the cardi.

  13. Can anyone comment on the fit of the curator pant? I decided to go ahead and try my Minnie size (0) instead of my usual size (2) because it's all that was left. I thought maybe since they are both side-zip pants they might be comparable. *fingers crossed!*

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You'll be fine with the size 0! I have the curator in 0 and I actually take a 2 in the Minnie.

    2. kiwigem see my review above - I found these differ in size depending which color/fabric you're getting.

      Delete
    3. Thank you for your replies! As it happens, JC cancelled my order of the 0. The next day the pant popped back in ONLY the 2, so I paid for it and THEN called to have them give me the price I paid for the 0. So, now I'm caught hoping they won't be too big. Better than too small, I guess! *fingers STILL crossed* ;-)

      Delete
    4. Good luck! Not sure which color you ordered, but if it's the kiwi or hot pink, I think you'll be glad you sized up. That being said, I am planning to return my hot pink pair in size 0. I'm happy to ask my store to hold them for you if you want them!

  14. I ordered the Kimono Maxi Dress to try out during one of the promos. I wanted to try it for size. I'm not in love. The length is great on me. (I'm 5'4"). I would say it runs TTS - I ordered a sz. S and it fit fine - the sleeves are very flappy. There were a couple things I didn't like: I'm not a fan of a V in the front AND back of a dress. You DEFINITELY need a cami underneath. I don't see any way you could wear this w/o one. Finally, it is empire waisted and can only be belted right under the bust. I just didn't think an empire waisted maxi dress was flattering. Too bad, b/c the angles of the stripes could be quite flattering.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Also, the thought just hit me that having the bumpy lines from a cami underneath the dress, which is empire waisted, would probably look terrible.

      Delete
    2. Too bad. I have the Kimono dress from last year and I love it. I agree the length is perfect for us shorter folks (I'm 5'3") but I found the neckline flattering on myself.

I do sometimes wear it with a bra that has a camisole panel on the front or use fashion tape.

      Delete
    3. You know, I went back to look at the photo of the dress after reading your comment, Rosie. I'm going to adjust my opinion on size - I think it runs large, b/c if I filled out the dress more, it may have laid more closed over the bust area. It just dipped so low on me. From the pic, I could see how you could do what you do. But there must've been too much fabric. I'd be curious to compare last year's and this year's side by side. Was last year's version also empire waist?

      Delete
    4. It was the same style. I usually think empires make me look pregnant, though in the maxi it created a nice illusion of me being long legged--which I am not!

I sized down and am also fairly will endowed, so the chest area was not a problem for me.

      Delete
    5. Yeah, maybe if I sized down, and maybe if I wore a padded bra, lol! I may try it a size down just to see if that wouldn't make a difference b/c it looked like it'd be great.

  15. I know this is an older item and now at final sale, but for anyone considering the Lady Jacket in indigo tweed, I would highly recommend it. It is very well-constructed, fits tts, the tweed is substantial and really pretty. It instantly jazzes up jeans and I'm sure will also look great with pencil skirts. Love it!

  16. I just got the two Tippi sweaters in the "mystery colors" that had no color swatches or stock photos on the website. (Did anyone else notice that?)

Wild petunia is a lovely dusky rose color. Bright papaya is, well, bright orange with a hint of pink.

    1. Glad to hear the wild petunia Tippi is a nice color. I took a chance on that one as well, and am still waiting for mine to arrive.

    2. I got my bright papaya one today, and I love the color! It was a little scary ordering from the mystery box.

    3. I'm like a cat and one of these days curiosity is going to bite me in the behind...but not today! I ordered all three mystery colors and ended up keeping two. The Petunia is beautiful while the Bright Papaya matched stuff I already own. I'm letting the Byzantine Blue go because it's a little too close to the Crushed Grape color on the purple scale. No worries though since it's not final sale.

      Delete
    4. Nice to know about the wild petunia. I will get that in a tippi the next time there is a free ship or percent off promo.

    5. Could someone explain this 'mystery box Tippi' thing? I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing it on the website.

    6. maryeb, during the last promo the merino tippi sweater had three colors listed but their were no images for them. So, if you ordered any of them (there were 3) you really had no idea exactly what they looked like. I just looked and there are images for those three now (the $49.99 ones). HTH!

      Delete
    7. I ordered 2 of them as well - the wild petunia and the byzantine blue, but I googled the color names so I had some idea before ordering, which is why I passed on the papaya ;)

  17. Bought the knit tunic dress in bright indigo from red phone after trying on white version in store. It fits well and is made from their more substantial sweatshirt weight but I was surprised to see it described as a dress online when it's clearly a tunic (with slits up the side that aren't noticeable from the online pics).

  19. JCAs, Do you wear your blazers--not suit jackets--buttoned?

    ReplyDelete
  20. i tried on the collection tossed carnation pencil skirt. i got my regular size 0 and it was kinda loose in the waist, but because of the silk material, it was unforviging in the hips. If i sized up i'd have to take the waist in a lot.
overall i was disappointed. it's a $400 skirt for goodness sake. the seams dont match up, so there is one flower that gets cut off on the seam that looked like a stain. and the color is more of a shiny silvery kind of bridesmaid color rather than the creamy ivory color i imagined it to be. so disappointed cause i rarely shell out for full price at jcrew, much less for collection stuff, so i had really high hopes! oh well.

  21. Can anyone comment on the sizing of Factory denim - specifically the skinny ankle jeans? I'm wearing an 8 in JC pants and also recently got sz. 8 Factory denim shorts which are great. So would I take a sz. 30? 29? I'm high-waisted, so the rise on jeans for me is so much better if it's a little higher than lower. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I hardly ever button up my blazers, partially because I'm a little on the busty side for my size and they do that weird gaping thing when I do, but mostly because it feels too "look, I'm just like my mom heading to work". Ocassionally I will do the one top button thing that JC likes to do in their catalogues, ahem style guide, because it kinda looks funky-cute with the right blouse underneath.

  24. Long Sleeve Sun Shirt in Regal Blue. I haven't worn it in the water yet, but it looks promising. The color is not wet-t-shirt-contest see-through in this color, it's a pretty, saturated blue. The Neon Persimmon color looks pretty too but I think it could be see-through. Not that it matters that much, you'd have on a swimsuit too, but I don't want the see-through look. The material is very nice and the fit is not like a tight rashguard, it is a loose fit which I really like. I bought a Medium and it's loose but not too big IMO, so I'd say it is TTS or maybe it would seem large to someone who likes their tops more fitted.

  25. I posted a review of the new mini in tresco floral, which doesn't seem to be online yet.

The post also contains IRL photos of the melon color of the double serge cotton pencil skirt. The color is definitely the color of a cantaloupe, as opposed to the brighter color shown in the photo. Disappointing.

  26. Stopped in to see all the Liberty stuff -- I think it's been two weeks since I've been to a B&M, probably a record for me!

    * Liberty perfect shirt in Tresco Floral: I just love this print and this is the very rare keeper at FP.

    * Liberty invitation clutch in Tresco Floral: This one was a big disappointment to me. I don't know what I was thinking, I don't like fabric handbags (except v. casual canvas carry-all type bags) and this is no exception. I would have paid double, had it been printed leather. This was a preorder -> return.

    * LIberty toothpick jeans in Tresco Floral and June's Meadow: I got to see these in-store and try them on. I felt these ran very TTS if not a smidge large compared to premium denim like AG and Current/Elliott, but this could be b/c the JC denim is not as soft and stretchy. I thought these were very cute (and the Tresco Floral is priced at $150 in store, vs. $168 online), but I am just so conditioned against FP at JC, especially for denim that I know will not be as comfortable as other brands. But will buy if either makes it to sale.

    * Liberty mini in tresco floral, as JCJD noted above, very cute, not super short, and I think, had pockets. But at $125, still overpriced, I think.

    * Liberty chino short in June's Meadow: these run large, and long, much longer than the standard 3" JC chino shorts.

    * Liberty collar merino sweater in stripe: I thought this was just okay. Thin merino, probably soon to hole. Would have preferred in tee material, like the peter pan cotton shirts.

    * The only new non-Liberty item I tried was a new, short sleeved peter pan thick cotton tee. Loved it, bought it (another rare FPer). Two color-ways, navy with cream silk collar, grey with white (I think) color. That sweatshirt-grey just looks bad on me so I didn't even try it. Fits TTS, like the long sleeve peter pan tees that were so popular last season.

    * Liberty toothpick in Emma and Georgina: on sale for $90, before 30% off. Did not like the pattern at all on this, so did not try on.

    * Sale stuff: My B&M is still running 30% off sale, and they had sperry shearwater boots! I am a pure size 8, and as it turns out, I can wear an 8 (with thin socks) or a 9 (with thick socks). I was able to get the navy/charcoal that AJC reviewed here:

    http://ajcshoppinnghabit.blogspot.com/2012/12/hairless-cats-or-sperry-top-sider-boots.html

for $90, less 30%, for about $65. The Tyson's VA store has a few others, one in each of size 5, 6, 7, and 10, I think.

I also purchased the only black / white two tone pair that my store had for $110 less 30%, for about $80. Love both, the two tone more, but I got both b/c they mostly don't overlap with what I would wear them with and the prices were good enough to justify.

My only other sale purchase was the Lulu Frost bug bracelet:

    http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/jewelry/lulufrost/PRDOVR~22223/22223.jsp?TCode=GGBS00006&sisearchengine=197&siproduct=22223&origin=pla&cagpspn=pla

FP online, on sale in-store for $60, less 30%, for about $45. Very cute. Had never seen one in person before.

  29. Bella and jnmullings - a belated THANK YOU for your reply to my question about the Ala Moana J. Crew store. I was unable to comment properly for some reason until I got to another PC. Blogger probs!

Anyway - thank you so much for your responses. The Ala Moana centre sounds like fun. We're actually staying on Maui, so if we go it would be in combination with a day trip to Oahu. I was pleasantly surprised how inexpensive a round trip Maui -> Oahu flight is!

Just so this isn't totally OT - JC Panama Hat! I ordered an extra large because I thought I had heard it ran really small, and I'm pretty sure I have a big melon. Super cute and stylish hat! Very light-weight and comfortable - I can see what everyone loves it. But it was too big for me after all so I sent back for a (wait-listed!) medium/large. I ordered the natural initially but I switched it for white. I don't know, white seems nice and fresh.

  30. Some reviews from the recent promo orders -

First the bad - Blythe blouse in Sea Glass and Shocking Pink

Neither of these looked like the colors on my computer, the Sea Glass especially. The color of the blouse on the model shot looks like a light, frothy green. The color IRL life is much darker and brighter, more like the product shot, but way !brighter! and not in a good way, at least for me. The shocking pink was like highlighter pink, again darker and crazy brighter than what shows up on the computer. And I like bright pinks - I love my NIcki top in neon fuchsia and the Excursion vest in shocking pink, but both of those lean purple-pink and the Blythe leans more orange-pink. Not for me. Sizing was TTS.

Tippi Sweaters in Light Nectar and Heather Turquoise - both TTS and true to the color on screen, just gorgeous! But unfortunately, they are both sheer, I'd have to wear a cami under, and you can clearly see the cami. Not what I was looking for.

    The good -

Tippi in Multicolor Stripe, Acorn Navy (Final Sale) - These have been languishing in sale for months, I finally bit, as I needed a camel sweater. And it's a winner! Fit is TTS, the camel color, which can be tricky with my complexion, was perfect, and I love the stripes. Not sure why these haven't sold well.

Velvet Dot Ponte Top (Final Sale) - can completely see why this wouldn't work for some people. The ponte fabric is heavy, so it is structured, not flowy. It's a bit wide in the body and a bit short. I would never wear it on its own, but I bought it for layering anyway. I live in a warm climate, so I love heavier knit tops like this to wear as a sweater - over a button up or collared cami, perfect for 3 seasons. So being a bit wide and a bit short, it works great to accommodate an under layer and have it peek out from the bottom. I love the velvet dots, they are just the right size and subtle enough to either wear during the day or more dressy at night. Also love the sleeves, they can be cuffed just so.

Frog Bracelet - so cute! I have small wrists (5.5in) and can have problems with bracelets falling too low on my hand, this one doesn't. Enamel is well done, love the pave accents, the gold is a good color and the texturing on the links well done. One note on the links - they are hollowed out on the underside. The bracelet is still a good weight, just thought I'd point it out.

And a couple of Factory Items -

Dot Popover - Just like the retail jacquard dot popover I missed. I ordered an XS, my usual size in knit tops from JC, and I think this is just too wide for me. The arm holes are also too low in this size for me, but I found the overall length too short. Just an odd fit and I'm not sure sizing down would help.

Chambray Boatneck Top - like last year's retail chambray top except this one is 100% cotton. I ordered a 2, and again found it very wide in the body and in the shoulders (which almost never happens!), I think it would work if I sized down though. The color and fabric were lovely.

Sorry this is so long, but I hope it helps someone :)

Merino sweater in inky floral. I got a Small and it is huge, so going to take it back and try on an XS. It is very pretty but until I try on one that fits not sure if it is a keeper. For reference, I am usually a 6 or 6P in Boy and Perfect shirts. I don't buy many sweaters but am a XS in Tippi Cardigans and M in Jackie Cardigans.
Tipped boy shirt, navy/white. The fit was good but it looked like a pajama top to me, so going back.

    1. Also, a positive review. The perfect fit boatneck button tee, got it in S in clear water and pacific blue. Great fit, colors and price. Was on promo with 40% off.

  32. Received a few items this week! And here are my thoughts - also nothing new or groundbreaking. All are from the sale section:

    J. Crew Polka-Dot Snood in dusk white
Really nice, but the angora content makes it shed so easily onto black clothing. DO NOT recommend wearing with a black turtleneck...which is what I had wanted to pair it with.

    J. Crew Sequin Stripe Tee, xs
Went with my normal size and it fits very well :) The only thing I thought was strange about this shirt is how it is fairly short. So taller (long torso) ladies, beware! Also the weight of the material is substanial, its not flimsy. And I really like the liner around the neck, makes wearing sequins much more comfortable :)

    J. Crew Tissue Turtleneck Tee in deep aubergine, xs
Fits true to size. Lovely color. Can always depend on these tissue turtlenecks :)

For anyone looking for a review or style help with the J. Crew toothpick ankle jean in garment-dyed twill, I posted a mini review/inspiration post for them in neon violet. It can be found here.

  33. PSA regarding the COLLECTION CASHMERE FUNNELNECK SWEATER! If you receive one with 3/4 sleeves, it is a DEFECT! I accepted mine at first because I know of at least one other JCA who received one like that. It kept eating at me, though, so I called CS who said it was in fact an error, found me a new one, checked that it was long sleeved, and then arranged for me to return the defective one even though I had worn it twice.
BTW- if you get tired of the style (purl stitch body, exposed shoulder seams), it's just a normal sweater turned inside-out. All one would need to do is reorient the side seams and you'd have a conventional a-line sweater.

  34. OMG, thanks kiwigem, I am the one who also had a defective (beige color) cashmere funnelneck and returned it. Thanks for the info.

  35. Has anybody here tried the J Crew tights and can comment on quality and sizing? I am 5'8" with long legs, weight about 120. I am confused as to whether I should get a S/M or a M/L. Any imput appreciated!

  36. Got my second 40% box. Toothpick jean in yarn-dyed denim in Timeless Turquoise, fits like other toothpicks, color is not bright quite muted and has a faded look. My popback No. 2 pencil skirt was a pair of flip-flops, scarily enough they were actually my size, of course, that item is no longer in stock. Biennial medium satchel in black, amazing leather, love the bag, this is a keeper.

  37. Received the order from the Valentine's Day promo: I was curious how the new Margaret Annie perfect shirt (40146) compared to last year's version. The print is the exact same, but the colors in this year's are much more vibrant--more so than is shown on the computer screen as well. The predominant yellow and peach flowers on last year's version are now dark blue, light blue, and red. The leaves are kind of a moss green as well as a darker, almost pine, green instead of the previous light olive-ish/pukey green. If you like brighter colors, you'll like this year's version better. I'm sorry I spent so much time stalking it last fall and wish I would have waited for this version due to the better colors.

  38. I tried on the No. 2 pencil skirt in clover tweed. I normally wear a size 6 in No. 2 pencil skirts. I started out with a size 6 in this skirt and couldn't even get it on. Then I tried an 8, which I could not zip up. I asked the sales associate for help, thinking it might be a zipper issue (like a lot of J.Crew items I've tried lately), but the sales associate said it was just too small. Finally, I tried a 10, and the sales associate said it was still too small to zip. I suspect the problem was partly the sizing of the dress and partly the zipper. I didn't even bother trying the size 12. It's a shame, because the skirt is pretty and would have made a nice addition to my mostly black, white and grey closet.
