JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  2. I have a question regarding the tippis. I have the neon fuschia tippi, and I am considering buying either neon azalea or shocking pink. Is the shocking pink too close to neon fuschia? Thanks.

    1. Shocking pink is closer to the neon azalea than to neon fuchsia, in my opinion. Neon fuchsia has a bit more blue in it.

    2. I have a blouse in neon azalea and a tippi in shocking pink. Shocking pink is darker and not quite as loud as the neon azalea. If you like to wear XS in tippis, I'm selling my shocking pink one. I wore it once but I don't think it's quite right for my skin tone.

  3. Has anyone seen the new spearmint tweed jacket? I'm hoping the fabric isn't cheap, which would be the death of a jacket in that color. If it's as cute as I'd like it to be, what would you put with it, other than jeans and a T-shirt to keep it from looking like something a helmut-headed elder lady would wear? Would love some ideas for skirts, work pants or even dresses.

    1. When I put together a combo that has the helmut-headed elder lady look [love your word choice], I try to balance it out with really funky shoes. Fluvogs are my favorite. I find adding one element can do the trick. I want that jacket too (waiting for a sale), and plan on wearing it with the spearmint pencil skirt, Tippi, spearmint bubble necklace, ad my funky cream-coloured Fluvogs. For me, it's all about the shoes. They're an easy way to make anything look interesting.

  6. In response to Mary G about the spearminty jacket- I just ordered it and have high hopes. I am thinking black and navy minnies, I have the Liberty shirt in June;s meadow and an online VPS said the combo in quite striking. Also, white jeans, ecru jeans, cream cafe capri, black or navy wool cafe capris. white linen trousers, any of the Liberty shirts w/ pink, maybe even a navy perfect shirt.I think some of the new tees also have some potential but I will have to see it in real life. Good luck!

  7. I'm seeking outfit approval and maybe another idea. Some background: I have a 5th, yes 5th, interview for a position tomorrow. I've done three phone and one in person; this one is over lunch with the person that got the job I originally interviewed for (goodness, grammar trouble with that sentence!). So the deal is they want me but are determining how to use me, they've indicated I have some position, but not sure exactly what. If you have several hours I can run you through the crazy this experience has been.

In any case, these seems to be less formal (lunch) and more about determining my role than about determining my qualifications. So rather than a suit, which is not standard in the industry and certainly not standard in this office, I'm planning to wear a festival blue wool pencil skirt, black cashmere t with the herringbone nicky underneath (only collar showing), and thick black tights (its cold). Everything tucked, thin black belt.

Thoughts? Too casual? Shoes will depend on weather. If its raining leather/patent wedges with some hardware on the toe. If not raining I prefer my suede pumps, similar to the Etta.

    Thanks!!

  8. Thanks, MJ. Good suggestions. Let's hope the jacket will work for both of us!
