"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Not a vent.. but kind of is. I'm considering the Slim-fit Baird McNutt Irish linen shirt (AW695). Only petite and talls are left, but I don't mind because of the two I'd get the tall since even as a petite person, I find JC's petite sizing to be too short. But I can't figure out for my life how to buy these Baird McNutt shirts. I bought the s/s version this summer and went with the smaller of my two JC tops sizes, it was huge and I had to return. An SA advised that I go a size smaller, which I thought I did by going with the smaller of my two sizes. I then repurchased again and went with the advice of the SA and actually sized down two for both the shirt and the s/s shirtdress, but since only talls were left in the colors I wanted, they are of course long. I do love the quality of the linen of the shirts and I'd love to get a long sleeve version for spring, but this is slim fit while the others I bought this year were... oversize fit? regular fit?? So once again, can't tell if I should go with the size I bought earlier this year or the fit of the slim fit is actually slim, or whether this is a JC size issue or a Baird McNutt fit issue??

  2. Enough already with making sale-item purchases only to get the dreaded "We wish we had enough inventory...transaction canceled" email one week later. I called into CS this morning, chatted online with a rep, and called into my semi-local store to inquire about store inventory on this particular item for send sale from any J Crew location in the US: "No availability anywhere; zero," I was told by each. Called one of the NYC stores, and the friendly rep gave me the number of a store in NJ with an available stock of 3 pieces showing in my size; I called that store and bought two of the three for about the same price as my canceled website order for one was.

Why is this so difficult for them to coordinate?
