Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Now that Banana Republic's Rewards program has transitioned to their retail website, I used my rewards to purchase the Sloan Dress and even though I applied my rewards at the time of placing the order, $0 in rewards were applied ultimately (the total was charged to my BR Visa card ... ughhh).

I do appreciate their customer service though. Available beyond 8pm (even beyond 10pm) EST. And very very helpful, accommodative & courteous representatives. The young lady who helped me last night not only did a price adjustment for the final sale item, but also gave me a 10% off code to apply to future orders to compensate for rewards glitch AND she credited my rewards 250 points for my birthday which was in Nov (the rewards never posted).

I also appreciate that the JCrew card folks wrote off a $3-&-change balance as a "small balance adjustment". No other card does that. Plus the $25-off-$75 coupon they sent last week. It's nice to be appreciated even though there's not much I want at JC anymore. Perhaps I'll get the Liberty puff-sleeve dress. The print is quite pretty.

    1. Re: the small balance write off, we do it in healthcare because it costs a surprising amount to generate and mail a statement. It’s easy to lose money just trying to get paid.

    2. Most statements are e-statements these days. At least mine are. Good to know in any case.

  2. Finally received my BlackFriday/CyberMonday haul of intimates from GirlFriend Collective and Sheertex. Terrific bargains at GfC with discounts layered on discounts. Their recycled fabric is really comfy and I love everything I bought (5 bras, 1 panty, 2 long-sleeved crop tops).

Sheertex offered some amazing discounts too and I got the Durable Duo for ~50% off the $140 price. Couldn't resist their reputation for DURABLE (but pricey) tights. Unfortunately, both pairs (tights and thigh-highs) in size S are somewhat short for my 5'5"/112lb frame. And they don't do returns apparently ("intimates"). Instead, their customer service is offering to send a replacement (size M for the Duo).

  3. Not clothing, but I did receive my Cyber Week/Black Friday order from Jones Road Beauty, Bobbi Brown’s one year old clean beauty brand.

Previously I got four colors of the miracle balm and two colors of the face pencil. I love both but have been experimenting with different moisturizer under the face pencil…well this order came with the lighter moisturizer and it’s incredible as a primer for the makeup, but not in a drying silicon way. It’s more expensive than the derm recommended drugstore moisturizer which I will continue to use, but this will be perfect for under the makeup.
For Black Friday they had a kit that included your choice of lip/cheek stick and lip gloss with the moisturizer and everything brush. I had emailed a week earlier asking for shade recommendations and although I wasn’t sure the lip/cheek color they suggested is perfect. Not quite sure how they do it. They recommended two colors and I’ll get the second one at some point.
The second kit is the Gilded kit which is currently still available and I love it. It’s so much fun but not too loud. I wanted to try the mascara and it’s honestly incredible. I’m the type of person that washes my face because I have to take my mascara off and this feels weightless but gives nice definition. I’ve never tried anything like it. It didn’t flake or smear under my eyes either.
My original balms still have a ton left and it’s close to a year of use, so although they’re expensive it’s a huge tub.
I love playing with makeup and did a monthly subscription for a few years. I have tons of random stuff but canceled over a year ago and will have to do another purge. I’d sooner spend $ on this whenever I need something.

    1. I stopped buying since covid. I mostly focus on the eyes (masks lol) these days. How are the eye liners at Jones/Bobbi Brown?

I tried NARS and it is a hard pass. But have since settled on Laura Mercier pencil liners.

    2. I tried the black pencil liner with the sparkle wash so it’s not the same as just using the liner. I can say off the bat none of it irritates my eyes. Reviews of the eyeshadow are really good but I am trying to use up some of what I have. I have a few of the urban decay 24 liners and I feel like they’re always smudging into the corner of my eyes.

    3. I can’t remember where I learned this, but applying a coat of clear brow gel over my mascara ensures I don’t end up with a bunch under my eyes as the day goes on. I buy a little tube of the Anastasia clear brow gel and pair it with whatever little tube of mascara I happen to be using.

    4. Thanks Suz. That eyeliner run happens with Laura Mercier too. But at least it doesn't give me raccoon eyes. And no primer either. I"ll try UD next. I have a By Terry shadow palette that I haven't even opened yet.

@ Monica, great mascara tip =).

  4. I understand that stress can be an incentive for breakouts. My mouth and gums were all lesions and bumps and I was afraid to go out in public. All that helped was an anti-viral medicine taken orally. I thought it was a one-time deal; however, it has resurfaced unexpectedly and I am so let down. I am looking into Ayurvedic oils like melaleuca and lavender oil for handling the outbreaks of this virus. I am over 30, and not happy. This led me to the search for a permanent cure for the Herpes Virus which has taken a toll on my health, When i came across Herbalist Razor Traditional Herbal Medicine, After seeing some reviews and visiting his website , i placed an order for his Traditional Herbal Medicine , which i applied for 18 days , I am so Glad and delighted to be finally cured of herpes Virus 1. You too can get cured and have a better life, Contact Herbalist razor on His mail : , Call/Whatsapp Him via +2349065420442. God bless You
