J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. My favorite new arrivals are the mockneck silk top in black, the demylee cardigan with celestial buttons (but $$$$) and the reversible zip sequin turtleneck.

Will try to get to the store today to see what is available there and for try ons. Posted some screenshots and will post pics on the fb group if anyone would like to join.

    2. Ordered the Navy cardigan against my principles against buying Chinese manufactured for one of my employees. I like the buttons. All sizes are selling fast.

    3. My store sadly didn’t have any of the new arrivals I wanted to try. There is also a silk blouse I didn’t notice my first time around with lots of stars.

Lynn I’m sure she will love it but I would love feedback on that. It’s quite $$$$.

    4. @Suz, I will let you know for sure. It sure is$$$). If it doesn’t TB, G, VB she won’t even look at anything. She’s lucky to have me as her employer otherwise she wouldn’t be able to afford most of these labels. It’s sad she’s a clothes snob🤣 Must add she is an excellent employee 🥰

  2. I saw on IG that Trinny Woodall and Jenna Lyons had a dinner party. Jenna was wearing a cropped tuxedo blazer, open, over s sequin top and olivey green satin cropped balloon pants that almost looked like a ball gown skirt. I thought it was cool but still chic.

  3. Is it just me or does the new rollout seem awfully small for what's often the main one for the holidays? I wish J. Crew would explore the world of tartan beyond Stewart. This is at least the third year for the Stewart tartans. There are other festive plaids out there.

    1. Mary G: It seemed very small to me too unless I missed something. There still isn't anything that I really want--not one thing.

    2. There is another roll-out on 11/29.

    3. I thought the last one was a big rollout and expected this one to be a mini rollout. I wonder how big the 11/29 one will be.

    4. Cate the sad thing is 11/29 is too late. Maybe not for gift giving but for events. I actually realized I ordered pants from Everlane that aren’t supposed to ship until Dec 2. I have at least two family get togethers before that. They’re classic and not a purchase I made just for the holiday season so if I love them I will keep them, but for holiday merch 11/29 won’t work because it won’t be received until after the first week in Dec the way the mail is going.

  4. Nothing of interest for me. Absolutely nothing. Getting worse which is a shame

    1. Same - not one thing appeals to me. Thank goodness I have lots of good old J Crew because I sure won’t be buying any of this. Even the pjs are disappointing!

    2. @Lynn: Yes, I do believe it is getting worse. There is not even a necklace or earrings that I would want. Nothing. I'm glad to have what I already have in my closet, which is more than plenty.

    3. @MmeJacqueline, I’ve tried so hard at times to give the company some slack even up until now. The problem I still believe is with their design teams and CEO following the Madewell philosophy. It won’t work. I’ve sent numerous emails to the big- wigs and never a reply. Not one. This to me is both shameful and arrogant.

    4. There are a few things I actually like but I’m not rushing to buy. I can more than make do with what I have.
I walked through my local mall today into a few other stores and quality is just horrible. In comparison JCrew is much nicer. I had seen something online at macys which my mom ordered for herself and it’s garbage. The whole department was garbage. Stores full of fast fashion junk.

    5. @Lynn: Same here on "cutting them some slack," but I'm rapidly losing interest. This new designer (under the direction of the CEO) has given us so many shapeless, unattractive garments in dreary colors. Then there are the models, the looks on their faces, and some of those poses that do nothing but distort the clothes. In some cases, that might be a good thing!

Some of those poses look juvenile. I used to think that J.Crew had an accessible sophistication, but that is truly lacking these days. Madewell has its own customer, and it certainly does appear that J.Crew is getting blended into that mix.

I haven't purchased any shoes from them in ages other than Stubbs & Wootton, and I don't have to get those from J.Crew. The handbags aren't too interesting either these days. I miss the Drakes scarves with the hand-rolled edges, the Italian shoes that were all leather and made beautifully, and real pants that aren't pull-ups!

Too bad that you've taken the time to write to them with no response. I just wonder what the bottom line will look like in the fourth quarter.

    6. @MmeJacqueline, you are so on point about everything. The juvenile look has never been appealing but must admit I’ve purchased a few girls crew it’s items in the past that were eye catching:) I’m going write a letter to Drakes and see if I receive a response. Have a feeling I will. The British are always polite when I correspond with them.

  5. @shopalot, same here. I believe that those of us that care of our now “vintage pieces” are appreciating them a lot more. I just confirmed you on IG @monaco……. sorry it wasn’t sooner.

  6. And Poshmark is getting very picked over… a real sign of trouble.

    1. That there’s a limited amount of JC desirables on the secondary market, and many resellers who “update” their wardrobes regularly seem to be hanging on to beloved pieces.

  7. @Lynn, I haven’t spent much time in stores lately but I feel like the quality has declined everywhere. Natural fibers are nonexistent at most retailers. Jcrew is probably the best of the bunch at their price point. I haven’t purchased Jcrew shoes in ages and the few pieces of jewelry I’ve ordered have been a far cry from the pieces I already have. I am hanging on to much of my old school Jcrew! I just wish all of my beautiful vintage pieces fit like they used to! Sigh.

    1. I agree J. Crew is probably the best of the bunch at their price point. I haven't been in Banana Republic lately, maybe they're in the mix too. As much as J. Crew quality has declined, I think it's indicative of an industry-wide trend.

    2. @ShoppingCelle, you reminded me of the old pieces of jewelry that were so pretty and eye catching where people would always give a nice compliment and ask “Where did you purchase it?” This too, is disappointing because I love pretty costume jewelry.

    3. I agree with you all. I walked through the mall yesterday and was really kind of disgusted at the quality at most places. Granted I didn’t go into the more high end shops but at the crew price point and below it all seems like low quality junk.

  8. I always find something that I like. I picked up Cooper Stripe Sequin Sweater in store this weekend; stores had stock early. It was 40% off. It's a relaxed fit, but no drop shoulders. I ordered my usual size medium. Planning to pair with Collection navy leather skirt and cashmere joggers. I also like the Stewart tartan dress with the ruffle back. Happy to see the silk fabric and I like the cross back style. Hoping to try in store next week with Black Friday promo. Have holiday parties coming up, so this could be a good option.

    1. Me too. I've tried a lot from J. Crew this fall, returned a lot but kept some. If I had fancy parties to go to, there would be more that I'd try. I think the dressy clothes look fun but I have no use for them. I've been buying mostly sweaters and denim, one coat (the Daphne topcoat in heather camel) and two pairs of shoes (Marie Tab Loafers in velvet and the convertible leather clogs). I'm interested in the Long cotton cable-knit mockneck sweater
Item BD709 and ordered it to try. It says it's cotton, we'll see!

    2. @cate, I hope the item works out for you. It would be nice to hear some good news. Unfortunately, I have to attend a lot of functions where everyone dresses to kill. Business or pleasure. The problem I have and had is that someone else wore the same dress recently and I keep seeing this over and over at times. I get a little stressed out over this superficial stuff however I found a simple solution. I wear a few vintage pieces of Jcrew or purchase some nice fabrics, take it to a lady I know and she will create something pretty for $$. I’m both happy and grateful and make sure she’s treated like a member of my family. I’ve always posted here that I would give anything to be able to sew. I have such great respect for all of you here that know how to do so. A lost art.

    3. That's very cool, Lynn. I'm glad you have someone who can do that.

J.Crew has a lot of mix-and-match type party clothes this season too, like the sequin skirts. You could put something vintage with things like that and make them your own, no one would be wearing the same, or chances are you could pair it with another new arrival and probably wouldn't run into anyone wearing the same. I've noticed a lot of ideas on their Instagram for ways to wear things.

  9. Lynn, your comment reminds me of my brother’s engagement party where my mother in law who in her sixties, and a young friend of the couple showed up in the same outfit, seen and purchased from a display at the local mall.
This is one reason why I never wear an off the mannequin outfit. Now that I think of it, an aunt and my other brothers mother in law almost wore the same Liz Claiborne outfit to his wedding—thank goodness we figured that one out in advance.
I also wish I could sew.
I was lamenting about not having many events this year but my husband reminded me we have a Celebration of Life this weekend (for a local friend who passed) and I should treat it as a joyous occasion, not a sad event. I guess I’ll break out something festive?!?

    1. @Suz, I would wear something cheerful. I see no problem with this. Fact is you loved your friend and what better way with something cheerful and not depressing. Go for it No Black please. On another note 19th Nov. is the anniversary of when my 6 yr old and husband passed away years ago. I’m having the same type of service and I will be wearing something most likely the Neon Fuschia Jcrew cashmere sweater dress. Today most children love these bright colors and I’m wearing it for him. A few heads made turn with my choice of color but it’s what I believe would make him smile from Heaven. That’s what’s counts

    2. Oh Lynn…that just broke my heart. I reached out to a friend who was much closer to the friend who passed and she said the wife did ask that we dress in color because she doesn’t want it to be somber. My friend said, “I know you usually wear black but…” so of course I will wear something more colorful. The last time I was in this predicament I wore my pink regent coat and pink cap toe pumps so I’ll do something similar.
Sending love to you for tomorrow, Lynn. ❤️

  10. How I wish we all lived within close proximity of each other. It would be so much fun to get together and parade into the company’s headquarters wearing our beautiful now vintage outfits. Perhaps then it would sink in to upper management how really out of touch they are with their current attire.🤣

    1. And think of the closet swaps we could have!

    2. Oh by all means yes!!! I mentioned before to @pbanos@SuzHas, last year we should all meet in NY or some place convenient. I was hoping to fly into Teterboro Airport but then with COVID and everything else that went down the drain. Perhaps we could all get together in the Spring.

    3. Let’s try to arrange something. You’re good at this! I will be more than happy to help in any way I can

    4. I know there are a handful of us in NJ. We can def try to do it in the spring. Let’s get past the holidays and then we will all touch base. If it makes more sense to meet in NY we can try that too.

    5. @Suz, Wonderful! Whatever works is fine with me. This will really be a lot of fun and what a way to celebrate Spring! I mentioned this to hubby and he thinks its’s a great idea for us “girls.” He gave us a nickname already. The “Real Jcrew Brigade”🤣

  11. Do any of you have the Chateau puffer jacket with PrimaLoft®
Item AF012? What do you think of it? I ordered it in the seacoast blue color. I think I like it, but the lining is a very bright red. That, I don't like so much. I can't decide whether to keep this. Is it waterproof at all?

    1. I got a red one maybe early 2020 or late 2019. Ordered it in black in 2020 but returned it because I have the Wintress.
I can’t tell from the pics if the new red one has gold or silver snaps. Almost positive the old one has gold. The blue def looks like it has silver. Aside from wishing it was longer and wishing the red was less orangey, I wear it a lot. Unless it’s freezing and I need the length of the Wintress I tend to wear it to the gym everyday in winter.
I’ve definitely worn it in some precipitation but I can’t guarantee it’s waterproof. Probably more so than down though.

    2. The new red one looks like it has gold zippers and snaps, but I haven't seen it in person. I want to wear this for local walks in winter but I don't know if it's the right thing. I think I'm going to check what LL Bean has before I decide whether to keep the Chateau Puffer. Thanks for weighing in!
