J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Oh interesting! Of course I like three pairs of pants, the eyelet, crepe with pleat (which I don’t see a pleat at all) and the pull on crepe pant. I don’t love the poly crepe though, aside from the fact that it washes well, it’s horrible for the environment to even wash it.
I’ll keep my eye on these for sales but I do feel the prices are high for poly.

    1. @SuzHas with you on the pull on pants. Possible for future, but I wish the inseam was one inch longer.

    2. For me it depends how they sit on the hips but you might be right.

  2. and yet the items I’ve been watching for months are still there and still “excluded from promo.”

  3. Having gotten comfortable with the logistics of ordering via the US website and having had a good experience so far with a cross-border service (Shippsy), I am having a hard time restraining myself... Got the band-collar ruffle-front shirt in Liberty® Libby floral AU236 for $33 US and threw in the white version for $20 US AU296 yesterday (last day of the 60% extra off certain sale items promo). Right how they are "discounted" to $122 Cdn and $77 Cdn, respectively, on the Canadian website - crazy!

I have found the Liberty shirts tight around the shoulders and under the arms in the past, so I went up a size.

Once I see them in person, it's possible that they may be a bit too much with the ruffles on the front. A funny reviewer said that she felt like a millennial pilgrim. I did restrain myself from buying the striped version which was the same price as the white.

I remember the tuxedo shirts we wore in elementary school in the 70's and 80's, and this almost stopped me :-)

I guess I should be glad I have some hoops to jump through or things would really get out of control.

I can't see myself going back to the Canadian website. The US free shipping helps offset the transaction costs I incur by using Shippsy. I am (so far) staying with lower priced items so I stay under the duty limit of $150 Cdn for each package - so staying with lower priced items, which is probably for the best since the items are all effectively final sale for me.

For Canadian JCAs who missed the "how to" details, I posted the details Mon March 15 on this website.

    1. @ Toronto Modern, Glad you are able to *more-or-less* take advantage of the US sales.

I think a lot of this years ruffled florals are too dressy pioneer, so I get the millennial pilgrim.

    2. Update added April 2022. I wrote above re Shippsy's mailing service. It has gone up a lot in price when multiple packages are put together. So probably best to use them only if you are able to drive to one of their locations and pick up your packages.

    1. I have some new things I bought on clearance last fall/winter so I'm all set for spring too!

  5. I really like the Liberty Capel floral shirt, but I don’t see any darts. Has J.Crew eliminated darts on all of their women’s shirts? The main thing I’ve liked about J.Crew shirts over the years has been the flattering curvy fit. I hate to see them messing with that.

    1. Can confirm- very few if any shirts have darts any more. FWIW they have changed the fit to be slightly more generous throughout the body so the chronic difficulty I have with button gapping over the bust hasn't actually gotten much worse for me. I do miss those quality touches, though!

    1. Must be a computer glitch Miss JR. Try the Petite listing, then once loaded, toggle over to the Regular length. It’ll show lots of colors/sizes.

  7. I did see a few new pieces that I like but I am holding out for a bathing suit that has been excluded from almost every promo since it came out (and the current promo does not interest me much). I will say, however, that I am still buying winter boots that have been significantly reduced given the warmer temps and longer days...there has to be at least 1 JCA out there that can relate!
