"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. The promo today says 30% off including new items....nothing in my cart is included in the promo. WHAT?

    1. Agreed. I tried to order two of the new blouses and no go. I was done after that. Didn't even look at the rest of my list of possibilities.

  2. My vent is that Canada hasn’t had any promo in over a week. Stores here don’t have any promo either right now. They also increased prices to 45% more than US prices on many many items.

  3. here's an article about Mickey, Somsack, Alex Mill

The vent: the article mentions 48 more J. Crew stores are closing

    1. Interesting. I like the concept and especially the cotton, but I haven’t seen any must haves and I can’t even tell if the pants would fit because IMO they don’t look great on the models. (This is an issue I’m having all over.)

    2. I just love this line:
“that optimistic preppiness I remember from the J. Crew catalogues of my late-’80s middle-school-dom, when I would study those catalogues and imagine that adulthood meant summer clambakes, autumn tailgates, and weekends in Vermont populated by smiling, laughing, happy, preppy friends who were all in on the joke of wearing a red union suit every now and then.”

    3. Saw some Alex Mill items at Nordstrom. Not a fan.

  4. So annoyed. With today’s promo I have to reorder stuff from 2 orders made in the past 14 days since they won’t do PAs anymore.

    1. Me too. I didn't even bother emailing for PAs, just reordered swimsuit that I bought 3 days ago when it was 30% off. Even if I pay for the return label I'm still coming out almost $10 ahead. Would have been so much easier, and probably cheaper for them, if they would just give the PA.

    2. Exactly! I bought those swimsuits thinking I really would't go through the hassle of reordering with another promo but the price difference is significant with today's promo. I thought I had made peace with paying what I did. If they're making me work this hard to shop, I'm going to make them work harder to get my hard-earned money.

    3. All of this. I am done with JC. They keep playing games with prices and I am not a gambler. They are idiots and don't deserve my business.

  5. I read that yesterday as well and chuckled because I had unsubscribed from Alex Mill emails earlier in the day. I too like the concept of doing a few products very well, making them sustainably, and the cotton, but saw nothing that sparked interest.

AS someone that shops exclusively online, I can't complain about store closings. I'm glad I have a store for returns, and that it is not on the chopping block.

  6. I guess I should've read today's promo details more carefully. I thought it was 50% off sale. It's 50% off SELECT sale. Wasted my time going through the sale section and putting things in my cart and none of it is eligible for the additional percentage off.

    1. Same, shopalot. The banner on the top of the site makes it seem like 50% off all sale... and usually when it's 50% off "select" items, the rest of it is at least an additional 30% off, which doesn't seem to be the case. Weird... guess they want to be hanging on to summer stuff into fall/winter (they can keep the velvet easy pants from last year company!).

    2. Same. I realized right away because there was a disappearing category that said 50 off select sale and there was about 500 items in it. Nothing I had in my cart or on my wishlist was eligible.

    3. Nothing great except the black icon trench, which they are selling for $62.50.

    4. And the skirt I wanted was of course restocked. They are really holding onto stuff.

    5. It's ridiculous....next week is Labor Day. This stuff should be marked down more than it is with an extra 50 off. Sandals are still over $100! There's no reason summer items shouldn't ALL be on sale.

    6. Trench is not eligible for promo.,, I tried.,,

    7. Guess the trench got fixed, then. It was a great price, most of them sold in a snap.

  7. Got ripped off by $50 because of their ever-changing prices. This is the last time.
