J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

    1. It is great to finally see some new arrivals. I've added a few things to my wishlist, but nothing I must have. I'm trying to be fairly strategic about what I buy this fall (and spend much less) so I'm passing for now. Some nice fall colors in some things, but many spring inspired florals too? These are pretty, but not what I'm looking for now.

    2. bythelake - Same with me, and what is it with J.Crew continuing to do the spring inspired items for fall? That started several years ago, and I had hoped it was only a momentary lapse of reasoning, but apparently that's not the case. There are SO many wonderful reasons to celebrate fall, and so many gorgeous plaids, prints, and warm colors to go with it. Why insist on offering the spring inspired colors/patterns/prints for the pre-fall & fall collections each year?

    3. Actually, I love the spring inspired colors/patterns for ther Fall collections and that is why J.Crew is my favorite store. No other store was as fearless in their use of colors for Fall/Winter. I am actually super disappointed with this rollout because it does actually look dark and uncheerful, a departure from previous years...no neon coats or patterns...just typical Fall colors you can get at any other stores.

  2. There are a few things I like, including some of the mockneck sweaters, and many of colors are pretty. Wishlisted a few things but since it's still 100 degrees here I'll wait until those Fall temps are in sight. For some of it though, I found myself thinking that my students would be more likely to wear it than me.

  3. Hi JCA's - any August birthdays have luck getting CS to apply the birthday discount and the ongoing promo? I put the polka dot hoodie in my cart and would like to be able to use both.

  4. I think that I might be back on the high heel boot train! A little shorter but the mid calf high heel black boot is a potential substitute for my prior loss. I agree, it is nice to see the new arrivals although there is nothing that I have to have at this very moment. Tried for the leather leggings until the not-promo-eligible sign popped up.

  5. No promo for Canada. not shopping again.

    1. I know, this is unbelievable! It’s the third promo in a row we’ve been excluded from. I don’t think this has ever happened.

  6. There are quite a few things I like and I'm pleasantly surprised. This may be because I am looking to expand on my tried and true work staples and embrace some of the skirts to wear with boots. Winter is so long and cold here in NJ and I'm always dressed for the weather, but it would be nice to have some new options when the weather permits (i.e., I don't need a tank, thermal, sweater and leggings under my pants).

    1. In my cart I have the pleated midi skirt in navy, the mockneck cable knit sweater in green (which is described as cashmere?), and the long sleeve midi knit dress in burgundy. Really like the colors (FALL COLORS!) of the new silk cheetah blouse but not eligible for promo. Oh well, haven't worn the last one yet and paid much more than what it eventually went down to...

    2. I totally disbelieve the 'cashmere' as it also lists Acrylic/nylon/alpaca.

I was considering the wide leg pants only they are both 'Cotton/poly' and 'Dry clean'. Seriously? Dry clean?

Maybe just really sloppy work making product descriptions?

      Delete
    3. For Pete's sake. One would think machine washable!

Thank you for pointing that out, I got to cashmere and stopped reading. :) I avoid unnatural fabrics in sweaters.

    4. I'm liking the long sweater dress in burgundy too. But I'd need to confirm it is washable viscose, as I am not trusting the descriptions. I'll buy a dry clean skirt or jacket, as they rarely need cleaning. But not a sweater dress! Viscose can be questionable for washing.

    5. Of course I like those cotton poly twill pants too but now that I have two pairs of well fitting Everlane ones I’m not rushing to try them. Length Is a little off. 30 might be short for full length and 33 is Long.
I’d consider the pleated skirt in black for dressing up. Not interested in any of their color and I can’t believe they made all those colors and not black.

    6. I have the officer pants in Tall and need to wear heels. 30" was too short even with flat shoes. But it's usually easier to shorten than lengthen pants.

Telling myself I have more than enough cool-weather pants (true) even if I do not have black wide-leg pants.

    7. I took the sweater out of my cart and bought the dress in both colors in case I loved it, or they ran differently. I don't clean/wash my dresses often, except my washable cotton sun dresses, and don't have a problem with dry clean only on that piece.

Suz, you look like you should be modeling the Everlane pants you have; these could not be any better. Good call.

  7. There was a pair of jeans I liked but then I saw they had a 12" rise. I need a 9" rise.

    1. 12"?!?!?
Whoa! That's up to my boobs at that point!

    2. I know! Who are they designing for? Is there a prize for selling the jeans with the highest rise? I thought nothing would curb my denim buying, but the high rise trend has. I found some mid-rise from Sundance that I love, but that's all. I've stopped buying denim at J. Crew and Madewell because it's all high rise. Even the 11" slide down on me and bag. This goes for denim shorts too. I didn't buy any of those this year either because I have some and hate the fit. The high rise is one problem, but the high rise shorts alway seem to show too much booty on me. They just keep churning out high rise everything, though. Someone must be buying them, but I cannot!

    3. Noticed yesterday the Banana Republic has a section of denim just for mid rise! Ordered two in petites.

  8. Nicest rollout in a long time. More color choices. Pleased.

  9. I bit. I really like the new botanical cheetah print. The shirt is excluded but the easy pants are not, so I ordered that and the SZ rashguard in a larger size than I already have. Both are mostly to try on. I also like the baroque floral pattern in navy bloom - the collection blouse has too many ruffles for me, but the silk dress is nice though $$ for what it is.

    1. I was upset the blouse was excluded, I would have definitely gotten it. I also like the collection blouse style and print, but wish the collar was different.

    2. @eeps SZ prints are so nice. Hope the rash guard works for you! The brand was a staple in my vacation clothing. Loved everything.

    3. @mygoddy I agree! I have the kitty dress in pink and the blue top/skirt set from the first season, and love the colors. I never really know how to size in rash guards - I get my usual size and it’s up my armpits but if it’s too big it drags in water. Hoping it arrives before my return window on the other size closes!

  10. I too like a lot of the new colors, particularly for the cashmere. Also want to try on the snake skin cropped flair pants. I live in Atlanta so it will be hot for quite some time, also, I need to look at what I have packed away, I always end up buying the same things over and over!
Seems like a lot of companies continue to show spring like florals all year now. Seems out of season to my eyes

  11. Excursion vest is back. Also a few other items... hope we get a new style of coats this coming fall.

  12. Emirates has free Wi-Fi on international flights, so had a chance to scroll. Some things to like as always. Collection silk floral blouse is really nice. Love the colors and don’t mind the styling. Will wait for sale. It’s too hot to even think about long sleeves in Texas. I ordered Gwen slingback flats in black and white. Love the color combo & this could be a really versatile work and casual shoe. With promo and a coupon they were 50% off. Hope they work out.

  14. Out of the new arrivals I like the Embroidered gingham popover, Garment-dyed corduroy jacket (really like both colors, but would go with the stone since the brandy would not go well with my coloring), Silk button-up shirt in botanical cheetah foulard (I almost died when I saw that it was actually 28" long...I wouldn't have to order a tall to gain extra length). Love the new icy mountain blue color of the Daphne Coat...immediately made me think of Sandra Bullock's Bird Box coat. I even looked to see if J.Crew might be offering a blue faux fur collar to add to it. Haha.

    1. You love the icy mountain blue color and I love the deep peri color of the lady day coat. Years ago the cocoon coat came in the deep peri color and I searched day after day for my size and it never appeared. I think the color was described as cornflower blue. I'm tempted by this even though I have several coats. I have one lady day in pinot noir which I really love.

  15. I couldn’t resist the Full-length easy pant in botanical cheetah foulard. I’m always on the lookout for pants that are different.

  16. Pretty pleased with this roll out. I do feel drawn to fall colors but I also don’t want summer to end. So I wasn’t going to order anything but caved and ordered the pink houndstooth pants and I surprised myself by wishlisting the corduroy blazer and pants. Used to wear corduroy pants in my teens ;-)

    1. fleur de lys - The houndstooth pants are really cute! You can definitely get more use out of them this year, too. You sharing them on IG is what extra caught my eye when seeing the archive pic of Princess Diana in her pink gingham pants that I posted last week. :)

    2. @Melissa that was such a sweet picture of her!!
I’m so looking forward to the houndstooth pants, like you said I expect to get a lot of wear out of them: fall, winter and spring

  17. Like others, I was pleasantly surprised at this rollout. I am also trying to be more strategic about purchases so I put several items on my wishlist. I did buy a few sale items this morning, black easy pants and long sleeve black crepe dress along with the new square neck t-shirt in white.

    1. I can't speak highly enough for the easy pants. They go with any shoe and are easily machine washable. Hope you like them as much as I have!

    2. I’ll be wearing mine on Saturday with a matching top to create a jumpsuit look for that wedding we are attending.

    3. Or not...husband doesn’t usually comment negatively but he wasn’t crazy about the pants. Searching through closet...I’ve gotten rid of so much...lol

  18. I found a few things to like, and with the 30+15% and an additional 10% the prices were good. I ordered the icon trench in black, the burgundy mock neck sweater dress, and the Short-sleeve polo cardigan L5123, and Frankie pants. I know the trench and the polo cardigan are keepers, as I ordered a second time since JCrew does not give price adjustments. I found the trench is small in the shoulders, so I had to size up to a 6. It leaves the body a bit large, but the belt takes care of that. For $65 this is a nice raincoat. I had a return anyway, since I had previously ordered the cap toe red patent boots in my size and 1/2 up based on reviews. I find them TTS if not a little long so the larger pair is going back. My husband is not sure about the boots, but I am. I love red shoes, and shiny red boots with a low heel are perfect - with high heels they wouldn't work for me.

    1. I am curious about the Frankie pants! And would you believe I just sold my red cap toe boots. As much as I wanted them I just never wore them. I have red patent Sophia pumps I love in all seasons so I thought they’d work well for me but I didn’t wear them. I still have and love the blAck and snakeskin.

    2. Will let you know. They appear to be the same cut as the officer pants.

Hopefully I will wear my red boots - I wear my red patent evie pumps and my red penny loafers a lot, so we shall see. The cap toe style is pretty timeless - I can see them staying in rotation for years. I tend to care for and keep my shoes - earlier this year I polished up my square toe boots and wore them with the officer pants. They are from the 1990's when square toes were a thing before. And I still have my trusty Kentucky cowboy boots that I've resoled twice.

I've been wearing the snake mules this summer, and have the snake low booties for when it gets cooler.
