"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Vent: having to make returns since they no longer give PA on sale merchandise. If the item hasn't even arrived yet I think they should give you a PA, sale or not. I don't see who it benefits to have multiple items shipped and then the more expensive item returned. It is a waste of gas and shipping on both sides.
    - Maybe it is a hidden ploy to get us in the store, since I wouldn't visit otherwise

    1. I agree. the discontinuation of pa"s has been a deal breaker for me.

    2. I think it's a ploy to make it so cumbersome to get the lower price that they think most people will not return/reorder for the sake of a few dollars. A few dollars per item, per person, adds up to a lot of money for them not to have to refund.

    3. I've rarely asked for price adjustments so this policy doesn't bother me, but how many people watch the website like we do? I think that's what they're banking on.

    4. @ST: Probably a lot more than we think. It's not just JCAs but the folks on the FMF reddit/people who track instantdeals/ etc. I actually had no idea that community existed until I started lurking in the FMF reddit and previously when JC had a big sale, it would blow up in those online communities. JCAs must be a very very small part of that group of dedicated JC sale watchers.

    5. My spending has gone down even more than it already was with the no PA on sale items policy. I no longer place orders unless I feel it is a rock bottom price for an item. I have missed out of some items as they have sold out in my size once they got to a price I felt was acceptable. Honestly if it is not 50% off the sale price I will not purchase as I just don't feel most of the items are worth it. Adding insult to injury is that my local store closed and I have to drive an hour to return. I am not going to drive two hours to return an item as my time is more valuable than that. My only option is to return via mail and get charged the $7 processing. Plus since there is no local store for me to try before I buy, I buy less as I would have to order two sizes of things due to fit inconsistency which would lead to returns. There are a lot of things that have made me shop there much less.

  2. While we are on the topic of PA's. I did purchase a few items off the factory website that were buy 1 or 2 clearance items get 50%, 3 or more 60% off. The code provided did not reflect the discount in my cart. I wanted to place the order as two items showed only a few left so I figured I would email after the order was place and get the code applied. The first person who responded would not make the adjustment as I assume they were following the no PA policy but I had placed the order and emailed directly afterwards on the same day! It wasn't a PA their stupid code just wasn't working on the newly marked down items. Thankfully the 2nd person I contacted was able to adjust them items that should have rightfully had the code applied to them. It just left a bad taste in my mouth as it was their mistake I wasn't looking for a PA just the price I was supposed to be charged.

  3. I did not realize they changed the return policy from 60 to 30 days for online sales. I didn't know about price adjustments, so I ordered a pair of sneakers at $45 and then re-ordered when they went down to $23 a week later. When I returned the $45 pair, they refunded me for the $23 pair, on a gift card since it was > 30 days. I wrote and asked for the correct order to be refunded instead - we shall see, but I imagine they might say because its > 30 days they dont guarantee anything.

  4. I guess it just depends on how the CSR is feeling at the moment whether you get an adjustment or your request addressed...that sucks!!

  5. Wow, I had no idea about this new policy. When did it start? So, if you buy something today and tomorrow it goes on sale, they won't give you a price adjustment??
