"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Not a vent ... is it true that the Style Guide is coming back in some form? Can anyone confirm details? I saw the “Request a Style Guide” option on the website, but is that new or was it always there?

    I miss it so much.

    1. Hi Ruffles, the request catalog form online was always there even while the style guide was discontinued. Yesterday I tried to fill it in for Canada but now it won’t accept the Canada selection. Quite a few people have said there will be a September style guide.
Like you, I’m wondering about the details - I can’t imagine it being monthly after they had completely cancelled it. Bringing it back is the best idea they’ve had in a while. :)

  2. My vent is that the stripe shirtdress is now back ordered until mid Sept. originally it was August 6 but now pushed back over a month, I have never received an email about this I just keep checking my order.

  3. Vent....Flawed new rewards program! I bought an item in store this weekend and they didn't ask my email for rewards and I forgot to give it so no points. I don;t live near the store so I called CS and the first time they said they can add points and get back to me and no one ever did and then called again and they said they can't add points I can call the store. Totally flawed system! I have my receipt and CS should be able to add points based on that info and if they can't maybe they should train their in store employees to always ask for an email. This is a small amount of money I spent but still it should not be this way regarding the points.

    1. Yeah... I also just don't want to keep giving my email address every time I buy something in store. Even for the simple fact they might type it in wrong. :/

    2. @RN so sorry that happened. I had a problem with two of my recent Factory purchases. After a few days one of them showed up under the Rewards Activity but the other one never did. As I had given my email address I asked customer service to look into it, giving them the receipt# etc. They told me they couldn’t add rewards (really feel they should be able to do that) but sent me a $5 gift card. Really appreciated that as I had spent around $76, so that would translate to about $2 in rewards.

    3. Wow they did not offer me any gift card for my troubles. Maybe I will reach out again via email or facebook and let them know how I was treated.

    4. @RN call again and complain. You may have reached someone new. They should accommodate you. If not call again. I’m sure you reach someone that will help. Amount spent doesn’t matter. Customers should receive the same courtesy as anyone else. Good luck.

    5. Just a thought you can also assign your phone number with your email. So every time they ask for it you can just give them that and it should pull up your profile without having to spell every single letter of your email.

    6. This happened to me too and I've called repeatedly and they keep just telling me that there's a note on my file, but they don't know when it will actually be taken care of. They've suggested I could go to the store and return and re-buy the item. What really annoys me is every time I call they tell me it's my fault for not giving the e-mail but I actually prompted the SA when I was checking out and she declined to enter my e-mail!!!! So annoying.

  8. Vent with a question... I’ve been a longtime J.Crew shopper, 20+ years!! I’m so dissapointed in their decline in quality, lack of direction and sizing issues. I’m finding myself reaching far back into my closet for older pieces. I relied on Polyvore to help with new styling ideas on older Crew items. What is everyone using now that Polyvore is gone?? Thanks!!

    1. There is a new site designed to take over for Polyvore, but it has been slow to get going - Fashmates. They allowed former PV customers to upload their sets, but in my case, the sets uploaded without the pics - just the titles and empty boxes. But new items can be clipped and saved and new sets made. But their 'library' to search for sets using, for example, J Crew items is just getting going.

    2. ha, all I can think of is the movie Anchorman when I see the promo code. If you've seen it, you'll know what I mean

  10. Disappointed that the black Tippi with the animal print collar apparently sold out quickly; maybe they’ll make more?

    1. Possibly a first run teaser. I have a feeling you will see it again.

    2. I bet when they do the bigger fall rollout it will come back, or it appears soldout because of a running promo and it will reappear at full price later on. I have seen that happen before with popular items.

    3. Also, factory has 2 in cotton versions. I picked up the grey with stripe collar, and it seems very nice cotton, tts. I have the navy wool from jcrew last year, and the current pink with liberty collar.... do like the black....
