J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Getting tired of Cyber Monday, now extended till tonight. If only they would have updated the sale section.....

    1. Agree! I've never seen the sale section so low. There will probably be a huge update once the sale ends.

    2. I also agree. It greatly annoys me that the sale section is as stale as I've ever seen, knowing they will update it the morning after the code ends.

  2. I received my final sale popbacks yesterday - the chambray ruffle top and button front chino skirt. The skirt is my second because I plan to add black dots like the pants. That’s a project for my maternity leave. The chambray top is absolutely perfect. Glad I got the tall and I’ve been ordering talls in my recent purchases too. This top will be great all year long and I didn’t find the ruffled too overwhelming. But I’m 5’10 and have narrow shoulders so that might help.

  3. I received a % off coupon from J Crew with a recent online order. It seems that JC is allowing double stacking of % off discounts. I tried the code with the "Shopfast" code and both promos were applied. Sorry if this has already been discussed on here!

    1. It has been discussed and it is a nice perk. However it seems there is no rhyme or reason as to how the coupons are distributed. Some people seem to get them with every order while others never get them. I consider myself lucky to have received two since they started giving them out.

    2. any Canadians getting any of these cards?

    3. @unknown, I never get any, I don't think they send them to Canada.

    4. I never get them in packages for me no matter what I order. I think I’m blacklisted. But got one in a package for my niece in another state. Really irks my nerves.

  4. J. Crew sent me a $25 gift card for being a good customer! Wow never got that before. Got it yesterday so of course I had to find something during the cyber Mon sale to get the most for $25, but boy it was a struggle. Could barely find anything I wanted. I ended up with the Deer popover which I only had to add about $12.50. Then I ended up getting a Liberty headband. I have one and love the style and Liberty. The gift card was supposed to be able to be stacked and when i tried online it wouldn't let me so I had to sit on hold on the phone for 15 min then finally they were able to apply the card when I did the order over the phone.

    1. My husband and I each got one too (but this year we've been terrible customers!)--again, no rhyme or reason how they are distributed. I'm going to try to use mine with my $50 off on Italian cashmere that never goes on promo. Seems like my best option is to call CS.

    3. I received one as well. I had assumed it was a WE MISS YOU AND COME BACK card. I haven't been a good customer either. The only item I have purchased in the past 365 days, was the blue stadium coat. Which I love dearly.

    4. Very disappointed that I never get any of these things and I spend a TON of money @ J Crew! Didn't get a coupon in the catalog either.

    5. I got one yesterday and was SHOCKED as I have never gotten one, and do not even get emails. How the heck am I not getting emails when I am a customer of 20+ years and have placed a dozen orders in the past three months? Will CS use it towards my order placed 11/24, which has yet to ship?

      Delete
    6. Cheritheberry, I'll check the mail today. You never know, right? I have been a customer for 20+ years also and have never received promotional emails. I get the "thanks for your order" and "order has shipped" emails but nothing else. Doesn't matter how many times I sign up. Oh, and I give them my email address at the register every.single.time. Nothing. Can't figure it out!

    7. @shopalot - you did make me feel better and less alone lol! It makes me feel bad to hear about missed emails, truly!

    8. @Cheritheberry and @shopalot I have never received a stackable coupon, a $50 coupon or appreciation $25 gift card, or the holiday gift and have been shopping with the Crew for about 8 years. I also never got my madewell insider birthday "gift" even though I get all their other emails, so you are definitely not alone!
A wonderful JCA we all know and love shared a stackable 20% off with me a few months ago, so I feel much more appreciated here in the JCA community than I do as a J Crew customer.

    9. I did receive ONE stackable 20% off coupon in an online order delivery last month. I was giddy like a schoolgirl. First time ever getting a coupon in a package even though other JCAs reported receiving them many times. It's almost comical the way I shake out the boxes/mailers now just to make sure I'm not missing a coupon! :)

    10. No coupon as usual. Maybe tomorrow...

    11. I never get any of these coupons either. It makes me wonder if I am paying more for my purchases since they are giving away so much for free. Time to stop shopping at J Crew since they seem to reward those that hardly buy anything there. A friend of mine who never shops at J Crew and doesn't even have stores in her area anymore got a $50 card.

  5. I would love to share reviews as I placed a rather large order on 11/21; however, I haven’t received anything yet and several of the items have still not yet shipped (nothing is back ordered).
On the up side, CS processed a price adjustment to credit me the extra 10% I would have saved with Monday’s promo.
And I purchased a Blackwatch Plaid Schoolboy on eBay (Holiday 2013) which I received yesterday and am wearing to work this morning. :)

  6. I received the men's alpaca fair isle sweater in XS, which I griped about in another post for its deceptive product description; the ruffle mini skirt; and the boy's Max the monster hoodie in size 16. I'll be returning the alpaca sweater due to itchiness and allergies, and the boy's hoodie - it's well made but too long for me. I wear women's PS and the boys 16 was oversized in the shoulders but the neck hole was on the smallish side (I do not have a large head!) and the overall length could have been a tunic on me. The boys 14 would have been a better fit but I fear the neck hole would be even smaller so I'll be returning. I'm on the fence about the ruffle mini - I got the regular length and it is not mini on me, so it would be work appropriate, but the ruffle is awkward. It was flattened in transit, and I can't figure out what it's mean to highlight because of its placement sort of mid-center thigh down one side. I got the dark poppy, which is a cherry red and I love the color so it's the main reason why I would keep it.

  7. Is the Emoji tippi new today? Haven't noticed it before.

    1. i never noticed it either. hmmm... if it is new, does this mean they'll be adding little bits and pieces here and there just whenever?

    2. I think you’re right, MIss Jr. they want to stop the whole buzz over a new release thing... makes sense if they’ve let the major design element of the business take a backseat and are focusing on mass market appeal

    3. That's what Anthropologie does. Every day a few new items appearing throughout the day. I used to check them every day multiple times when they had good merch but now it's not working with boxy, swingy, overpriced, off the shoulder, and acrylic.

  8. I’m pretty sure that is new as well as a leopard t shirt.

    2. Me too! Thanks for mentioning it.

  9. Has anyone seen the tartan ruffle sweatshirt from J Crew Factory in person? I had it in my cart last week but it sold out before I could order it.

    1. I ordered it before it sold out but it is backordered until 12/4. I will report back once I receive. Hopefully someone else can chime in before then as who knows when it will arrive.

    2. I'm still waiting for my bow t-shirt from J Crew to arrive. It's been available at the store for a while now. No progress at all on the shipping. I noticed a lot of holiday-ish things are backordered. A sequin tee I wanted for the holidays has a ship date of December 28th!!

      Delete
    3. The plaid Cameron pants I ordered are backordered as well. Really wanted to wear those to a holiday dinner but looks like that won't be happening. It is going to make it easier to return things if they are not loves and arrive past the date I wanted to wear them. Between that and all the fabric descriptions being incorrect who knows what I will keep. They keep hurting themselves further with all these little things instead of turning the ship around,

  10. I have a code for $50 off a purchase of $50 or more that I will not be using.

  11. Does anyone have intel on the fair isle sweater pictured with the Fair Isle Beanie ?

Did I miss it...or is it still to come? Any info would be great! Tx!

  12. Has anyone tried on the black "lace top with pleats?" I'm just curious how the sizing is and there aren't any reviews. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I purchased this last week, and love it! Sizing is a bit boxy and wide, although it looks as though it is meant to have a more relaxed fit (I didn't know at the time, and thought it just ran large!). I have the lace top with inset cami as well, and the top with pleats runs wider by about a size (i.e. I have a 10 in the pleated top, and it is slightly wider than the cami top in a size 12). It is also shorter by about an inch, and while the sleeves of the cami top look shorter than the pleated top from the stock photos, I would say it is the other way around. The lace on both tops is the same, I believe. I ordered the 12 to compare, but I personally liked the closer fit -- since I am a short, boxy person to begin with, I generally try to mitigate the boxy look of tops like this by sizing down, so YMMV.

  13. Just wanted to give a quick review of the marked turtleneck sweater that I received today. It is absolute love for me! Not itchy, beautiful colors with a lovely dusty rose tone, and so cozy. It’s slightly cropped but my new KS striped poplin ruffle Oxford will be perfect under it. A great style idea I got from Pinterest that I was hoping to recreate. It’s mostly sold out but I’m sure popbacks will happen.

  15. I packed minimally for an international trip abroad.
My Sperry for j.crew saltwater boots from last winter got heavy use. I know from another recent trip that they're warm and OK (not fabulous) for long walks. I did order a pair of bean boots but they didn't arrive in time. (The bean boots came while I was away and I have to say considering the slight difference in price the bean boots look like much higher quality. (I ordered the small batch bean boots during the 25% off promo and the boots are fabulous.)
I also got the Everlane street boot for walking around town/dinners as I knew it would be chilly and I needed to be able to walk a few city blocks for dinner. Well, I'm hoping these get better with more break in time but one foot rubs and they gave me a terrible blister on my heel. I would have been better off with my Seavees laguna Chelsea boots but wanted a little more polished look.
My classic rinse skinny jeans from this fall, leather Ryders (popback) and Madewell black denim (popback from 2016) were all comfortable and versatile.
As usual My excursion vest was worn constantly but I'm finding many little feathers escaping and I'm mad I didn't order the new black vest on Monday with the great promo.

    1. I'd love to hear more about the Bean Boots once you try them out. I gave that sale serious consideration, but ultimately held off as I have so many boots right now. I'd love to hear how they stack up against the Sperrys as they're both such big names in that style of boot.

  16. I could have a review but I placed an order on 11/21 and am still waiting. I have been shipping to store but it was free shipping so I thought I would avoid a Black Friday week trip to the b&m. Tracking says departed shipping partner facility. USPS awaiting item. Uggh!

  17. I received the tall versions of my black watch plaid Marties and the silk paisley pants earlier this week. Lighting isn't so great by the time I get home to take photos but I am wearing the black watch plaid Marties today - I took an 8 tall in these - I'm usually a 6 in dresses but an 8 in pants due to my rear/thighs. The regular 8 in these was too small and too short (5'8") and the tall length is perfect - they hit right above my ankle and they're LINED. woo hoo.

As for the silk paisley - the tall length was definitely better in terms of length and I gained a little extra room in the hips but they are so thin. I'm not sure I will get that much wear out of them given where I live in the Northeast. I am thinking these may be a return, which is ok because I was very happy with the lady glen plaid pants and the Marties.

You can check my Instagram @fablifeforever today for a photo of the Marties.

  18. Cross posted, and waiting for a few more items hopefully tonight or tomorrow.

Reviews: I got three sale items. Black perfect fit turtleneck, black silk ruffle top (the one that also came in the bright fuchsia color and ivory) and the crackled gold loafer mules.
Last year I started wearing the tissue turtlecks under bulkier sweaters as a great base layer, I usually size up to a small. I forgot and ordered this in an XS so it's more fitted but great length.
I had tried the silk ruffle top in a 2 tall and thought a regular might be better but it sold out. The tall is fine. I like that this top is not so billowy through the body so it can be tucked, partially tucked, or worn out. I can see wearing this with my leather Ryder pants for holiday and winter events.
Good loafer mules. I got the smaller of my two sizes (my usual size) and they just fit but the toe area may stretch a bit and they will still work fine at this size. I'm not 💯 sure how I will wear them but they seem to work well with ankle length pants and probably slouchy rolled jeans. I love the crackly gold and although I have lots of glittery shoes somehow I don't have any gold. I like to wear heels to parties but if I didn't these are festive enough.
